fWotD Episode 2931: Marie Sophie Hingst Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 14 May 2025, is Marie Sophie Hingst.Marie Sophie Hingst (20 October 1987 – 17 July 2019) was a German historian and blogger who falsely claimed to be descended from Holocaust survivors. Born in Wittenberg to a Protestant family, she fabricated a Jewish background and sent documentation for 22 misrepresented or non-existent relatives, who she claimed were Holocaust victims, to the official Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem. Hingst maintained the blog Read On, My Dear, Read On, writing about her supposed Jewish background and identity, along with her experiences as a German expatriate in Ireland, where she moved in 2013. The blog received hundreds of thousands of views, and she was awarded "Blogger of the Year" in 2017 by Die Goldenen Blogger (The Golden Bloggers).Throughout her life, Hingst falsified much of her background, connections, and achievements. She claimed a background in sex education, having purportedly founded a hospital in New Delhi and worked in sex education outreach to refugees in Germany. Hingst used her fraudulent credentials to gain awards and recognition; alongside her "Blogger of the Year" recognition, she wrote for the German newspaper Die Zeit, was one of the winners of the 2017 Financial Times Future of Europe project, and held positions of prestige in Jewish communities across Europe. In June 2019, the Der Spiegel journalist Martin Doerry exposed Hingst's claims as false with the assistance of a team of historians and archivists. She was castigated in the German media, leading to the destruction of her reputation.Hingst committed suicide on 17 July 2019 at the age of 31. Her fraud and death attracted attention across Europe. German and Irish coverage of Hingst differed: German coverage focused on the extreme sensitivity of the subject she had lied about and how she should have been stopped earlier; Irish coverage focused on her mental health and accused Doerry of ignoring her vulnerability. She was compared to other women who had been uncovered as misrepresenting their backgrounds, such as Anna Sorokin and Rachel Dolezal. The particular similarity between Hingst and Dolezal, as people who claimed to have faced ethnic discrimination, sparked discussion of the role of identity politics in such claims. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:14 UTC on Wednesday, 14 May 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Marie Sophie Hingst on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Jasmine.

CTF 2025 - Session 4 – The Depth of God's Eternal and Incomprehensible Nature

Free Grace Baptist Church

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 25, 2025 64:35

In this session, Dr. James Dolezal explores two glorious attributes of God: His eternity and incomprehensibility. God is not bound by time, nor can He be fully grasped by finite minds. Yet He has truly revealed Himself to us in Scripture, not in totality, but truly and sufficiently. Dr. Dolezal shows how these truths, rather than discouraging pursuit of God, drive us to reverent worship and theological humility. They remind us that God is not like us—and that's precisely what makes Him worthy of our trust. If God could be fully comprehended, He would not be infinite. This message calls us to embrace the mystery of God, not as a gap in knowledge, but as a reason for awe. It also helps protect the church from shallow or overly rationalistic approaches to theology. Key Scriptures: Psalm 90:2 – "From everlasting to everlasting, You are God." Isaiah 40:28 – "The Creator... neither faints nor is weary." Romans 11:33 – "Oh, the depth of the riches... of God!" Speaker Bio: Dr. James Dolezal is professor of theology at Cairn University and visiting professor at International Reformed Baptist Seminary. He is the author of God Without Parts and All That Is in God. About the Conference: Confessing the Faith promotes reverent teaching on the doctrine of God as expressed in the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession. Each year focuses on one chapter of the confession. Upcoming: Join us in April 2026 for Chapter 3 – Of God's Decree Details and registration: www.confessingthefaith.ca

In this session, Dr. James Dolezal teaches on the often misunderstood doctrine of divine impassibility—the truth that God does not undergo emotional change or suffering. While God is deeply relational and perfectly loving, He is not subject to mood swings, surprise, or reaction in the way creatures are. Dolezal walks through Scripture and the 1689 Confession to explain how impassibility safeguards God's immutability, sovereignty, and faithfulness. He demonstrates that this doctrine is not a cold abstraction, but a profound comfort: the God who saves does not change. This session challenges modern distortions of God's nature and helps restore a view of the Lord that is both high and holy. This message is especially helpful for pastors, teachers, and Christians seeking to recover the historic, biblical understanding of who God is and how He interacts with His creation. Key Scriptures: Malachi 3:6 – "For I am the Lord, I do not change." Numbers 23:19 – "God is not a man, that He should lie…" Job 35:6–7 – "If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against Him?" Speaker Bio: Dr. James Dolezal is professor of theology at Cairn University and visiting professor at International Reformed Baptist Seminary. He is the author of God Without Parts and All That Is in God, and contributor to Divine Impassibility and Classical Theism. In this foundational session, Dr. James Dolezal teaches on the doctrine of divine simplicity—the truth that God is not made of parts or composed of differing attributes. He explains how simplicity safeguards God's unity, independence, immutability, and perfection. Far from being an abstract philosophical idea, divine simplicity is vital to understanding the God of Scripture and worshiping Him rightly. Through careful biblical reasoning and historical confessional support, Dr. Dolezal shows how this doctrine undergirds all others. Without simplicity, the God we profess becomes subject to change, complexity, or contradiction. This message calls the church to recover this essential aspect of theology proper and to rest in the unchanging wholeness of our God. Key Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:4 – "The Lord our God, the Lord is one." Exodus 3:14 – "I AM WHO I AM." James 1:17 – "The Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning." Speaker Bio: Dr. James Dolezal is professor of theology at Cairn University and visiting professor at International Reformed Baptist Seminary. He is the author of God Without Parts and All That Is in God, and contributor to volumes like Divine Impassibility and Classical Theism. Actually, it was already happening, but I knew it would explode.I wrote the book as a joke. A call to action for my white friends to not miss the racism gravy train, particularly after learning about Rachel Dolezal. That was a George Floyd moment for white folks. But they hadn't been trained in how to take advantage of that crisis.Think about it. A white woman wanted to be Black and she was criticized. Isn't that what MLK Jr. fought for. The idea that the world would love Black people to the point that white people would FAKE being black! When Dolezal got called out, white folks should have rioted. How DARE they not allow you to pretend to be Black!! That's the biggest compliment in Black history. Welcome to Hunters and Unicorns; The Founders Edition. Today we welcome Pavel Dolezal, CEO and co-founder of Keboola. Our anticipation is high to learn more about the remarkable initiatives they are pursuing. Pavel's story is quite unique; although many companies typically originate from the West Coast or places like Tel Aviv, Kaboola's roots trace back to Eastern Europe. Join us as we delve into the beginnings and shed light on the evolving market dynamics, highlighting the emergence of companies like Keboola from that particular region.   Key Takeaways: 1. Pavel recounts his entrepreneurial journey, highlighting three ventures, including internet portals in the late nineties. He emphasizes the need for venturing beyond local borders and seeking co-founders with aligned moral and ethical values for a long-term commitment, emphasizing the importance of building a client-focused company. 2. The co-founder selection process involved identifying co-founders with a shared vision and technical capabilities. The motivation for founding Keboola stemmed from a desire to simplify data usage for businesses by integrating and orchestrating tools in a modern data stack. 3. Pavel emphasizes the need for hands-on understanding through customer interactions and initial implementations, debunking the idea of a sophisticated framework for startups. The two approaches to startup initiation are outlined, either addressing a specific problem within a familiar vertical or identifying a broader market need. 4. Initial efforts focused on reaching out, organizing events, and engaging with potential customers. Key customer, Tomas Chopra, provided crucial insights and challenged them to simplify complex processes for end-users. 5. They recognized a niche in retail, combining physical and virtual elements, and further explored industries like fast-food operations and banking. The validation process involved focusing on customers with large CRM and logistics systems. 6. They tested and refined their hypotheses, targeting different market segments and industries to understand market positioning. Bootstrapping helped in building a strong culture and a committed team, allowing them to adapt and scale when the time was right. 7. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the digital transformation, aligning with their market positioning. They emphasized the importance of understanding when to sell a finished product versus involving customers in the product development journey. 8. Hands-on involvement from the leadership is seen as crucial for rapid adaptation in a rapidly changing environment. 9. Different methodologies like Agile, Six Sigma, and Lean are selectively applied based on the development stage and requirements. 10. Olli Krebs, Keboola's advisor, helped them refine their deal lifecycle and introduced a structured approach to evaluating deals, improving efficiency. They realized the importance of understanding who excels in what aspect and how to effectively utilize individual strengths within the team.

Cobb police shoot motorist after he reaches for weapon

Marietta Daily Journal Podcast

A Cobb County Police Department officer shot a motorist during a traffic stop Wednesday night after the driver reached for a gun, the department said. According to a news release, at around 10:22 p.m. police pulled the driver over on Interstate 75 near Delk Road. While approaching the vehicle, the officer observed that the driver had a gun. The department said that the driver made a movement toward a firearm and ignored verbal commands. The officer then shot the driver, police said. Arriving officers rendered first aid until the driver could be transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital via ambulance. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident. An inmate of the Cobb County jail died in custody Wednesday morning, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office said. James Martin of Mableton, was booked last Friday on methamphetamine possession and failure to maintain lane. Martin told deputies he was a heroin addict, “and had just binged the substance,” according to a news release. Wednesday morning, Martin told the jail's medical staff he was feeling unwell before having a seizure. Martin was given Narcan, a drug used to counteract an opioid overdose, but he died while en route to the hospital in an ambulance, the sheriff's office said. His time of death was reported as 9:21 a.m. The sheriff's office said later Wednesday they had since learned Martin suffered from stage IV hepatitis C. The office has asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the death. Martin is the seventh inmate to die in custody since Sheriff Craig Owens took office in 2021, and the first this year. Sheriff Owens has implemented new technologies such as medical monitoring wristbands to try and curb jail deaths after a string of inmate deaths under the previous administration. Though her own bill to rein in the powers of Georgia's accreditation agencies fell short this week, state Representative Ginny Ehrhart, the Republican representative from west Cobb, says the push isn't dead yet, with a similar measure having been passed by the Georgia Senate earlier this week. Ehrhart's bill — House Bill 506 — came out of the firestorm of controversy sparked during the Cobb County School District's “special review” by its accrediting company, Cognia, in 2021. Initiated after complaints by the school board's three Democrats over the partisan bickering on the board, the review dinged the district over shortcomings in “board governance.” Cognia's report would later be voided and replaced with a new one, as the firm's CEO Mark Elgart walked back other recommendations on improving the student achievement gap and fiscal responsibility. Ehrhart's bill would have barred Cognia and other firms from evaluating Georgia public school districts on political concerns like board governance, and set up an appeals process for negative reviews. Her legislation, however, never received a vote before the full House of Representatives before Crossover Day Monday. The west Cobb Republican told the MDJ a similar proposal from state Senator Greg Dolezal,  a Republican from Alpharetta, is headed to the House after passing out of the Senate 52-0. Dolezal's bill, Senate Bill 204, is broadly similar to Ehrhart's in that it limits the standards by which accrediting firms can evaluate districts and schools.  Pollen, already blanketing cars, causing sniffles and irritating eyes across Cobb and the rest of metro Atlanta, couldn't wait for spring to start breaking records. Atlanta Allergy and Asthma, an allergy practice with offices throughout the metro area, reported 14 days of pollen counts in the high range for February, a record for the month that beat the previous one of 10 days in February 2017. While Atlanta Allergy did not report any days of “extremely high” tree pollen counts — 1,600 or more — for February, the allergy group has already recorded “extremely high” counts three straight days this week, Monday through Wednesday. The 3,937 count on Tuesday was the ninth-highest in March during the past decade. Pollen counts, measured in grains per cubic meter of air over 24 hours, have been consistently high in the metro area before spring has officially started. Dr. Stanley Fineman, who sees patients at two Atlanta Allergy and Asthma locations in Marietta, said earlier pollen seasons have become the norm in the last three decades. Per Atlanta Allergy and Asthma, recent studies show the trend tracks with climate warming trends and said Southern states will be more greatly impacted than other areas of the U.S. For people worried about how the pollen is affecting them, Fineman said the first step they should take is to get an allergy test that will pinpoint what exactly their allergy is and what's triggering their allergic reactions. From there, Fineman and his colleagues can give patients allergy treatment plans. For years, he advised patients to begin their plans, often starting with over-the-counter medications like nasal sprays, around St. Patrick's Day, so that the treatments would have time to work by high pollen count days in late March and early April.
