On the morning of August 21, 1996, Trudy Appleby, an 11-year-old girl from Moline, Illinois, missed her scheduled 9:00 AM phone call with her best friend. Thirty minutes later, Trudy was seen getting into a car, believed to be a Chevy Celebrity, with a white man in his twenties. She was never seen again.  Trudy's father came home during his lunch break and made lunch for Trudy, assuming she was out playing with friends. But when he returned at the end of the workday, the lunch was still on the table, untouched—and Trudy was nowhere to be found. A massive investigation was launched, and persons of interest were eventually identified, however, Trudy has never been located. It's been more than 28 years since Trudy vanished, and investigators are still searching for her... Trudy Appleby was last seen at around 9:30 AM on the morning of August 21, 1996, near her home located near 41st Street and 23rd Avenue in East Moline, Illinois. A witness reported seeing her getting into a gray or silver four-door Chevrolet Celebrity with a white man, now believed to be William “Ed” Smith.  At the time, Trudy was wearing a black one-piece swimsuit, spandex shorts, blue tennis shoes, socks, and a t-shirt. She was also carrying a beach towel. Law enforcement has named three persons of interest in the case: William “Ed” Smith, David Whipple, and Jamison “Jamie” Fisher. To date, no one has been charged in connection with Trudy's disappearance. Police believe they are just missing a few key details to solve the case. Anyone with information about Trudy Appleby's case is encouraged to contact the Moline Police Department at 309-534-2140 or Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500. There is currently a $10,000 reward for information. The company made the announcement on Friday and said those affected will be 280 employees at a plant in East Moline, Illinois, and 230 employees at a factory in Davenport, Iowa, Fox Business reported Saturday. In March, Breitbart News reported that about 150 workers at the John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny, Iowa, were moving closer to being laid off in the months of April and May. “Earlier this month, Deere announced it is moving the manufacturing of skid steer loaders and compact track loaders from its Dubuque facility to Mexico by the end of 2026,” the report said. Both have deep-seated ties to Democratic politicians and businesses, NBC Bay Area reported.   Their business dealings and political connections are under intense scrutiny following evidence that suggests they orchestrated a complex scheme to circumvent campaign finance laws and funnel illegal donations to various Democratic candidates. The Mercury News reported:   Charlie Ngo, an alleged “straw donor” on behalf of the Duong family, made large deposits just before or after writing his checks for campaign contributions. Despite his bank account showing insufficient funds, he made significant donations to multiple candidates. According to the FPPC's filing, Ngo did not have enough money in his bank account to make the contributions he made. For example, he gave $700 to Friends of Desley Brooks even though he only had $49.58 in his bank account; $700 to re-elect Oakland Councilman Larry Reid in 2016 despite having only $2.14 to his name and donated $800 again to Brooks, the former Oakland councilwoman in 2018 despite having $5.32. Each time, “he made a large deposit just before or after writing his check,” city investigators said in court records. He is also listed in campaign documents as giving $700 to Oakland Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan in 2016, $700 to Oakland council candidate Viola Gonzales in 2016, $600 to San Jose Councilmember Tam Nguyen in 2017, and $250 to the campaign of Milpitas Councilmember Anthony Phan in 2016. In all, Mayor Thao, then a councilmember, received $2,400 from people associated with the cafe,

High school is brutal. To quote my dear friend Dexter from season 6, “High school, a small world unto itself, combining all the elements of a federal work camp with those of a third-world poultry farm.” Adrianne Reynolds, a 16-year-old, had recently arrived in town in November. Originally, Adrianne had been residing in Kilgore, Texas, with her mother. However, due to difficulties in school, her parents decided to send her to live with her stepfather, hoping that a change of environment would provide her with a fresh beginning. Consequently, Adrianne relocated to East Moline, Illinois, where her father and stepmother eagerly welcomed her. It was in East Moline that Adrianne crossed paths with Sarah and Corey. Like most teenagers, all Adrianne wanted was to fit in, and she was an outgoing and talkative girl who loved to sing. Her biggest dream was to be a contestant on American Idol. Adrianne would never get the chance to audition for the popular television show. Season 1 Finale:  Chad Pregracke grew up near the Mississipi River in East Moline, Illinois. From his childhood experience and first job as a clam digger, he decided he wanted to do something about all of the trash collected in the river. At the age of 17, Chad started making calls to government agencies to notify them of the problem, assuming someone would take care of it. But overtime, the problem only got worse. In 1997, Chad decided that if no one else was going to clean up the river, he would. In 1998 at the age of 23, Chad founded Living Lands & Waters. The crew averages nine states a year along the Mississippi, Illinois and Ohio Rivers, as well as many of their tributaries. Most recently, Chad expanded the mission of the organization to include Student Educational Workshops, The MillionTrees Project, Adopt-a-River Mile, Invasive Species Removal and The Great Mississippi River Cleanup. He's received an abundance of awards and honors over the years including the Jefferson Award or Public Service and he was named CNN's hero of the year. Chad is also the author of From the Bottom Up: One Man's Crusade to Clean America's Rivers. For more information, or to make a donation, please visit:LivingLandsandWaters.orgTo stay connected with Better Place Project and for updates and behind the scenes info, please follow us on social mediaInstagram: @BetterPlaceProj  To follow Steve & Erin on Instagram:@SteveNorrisOfficial @ErinorrisFacebook: Facebook.com/BetterPlaceProjectPodcastTwitter: @BetterPlaceProjEmail: BetterPlaceProjectPodcast@gmail.com

As of Monday morning, with nearly 3.5 million positive cases and nearly 250,000 deaths. In the United States, there are about 1.1 million cases and over 65,000 deaths. Those cases are seen more widespread in communities of color. In Chicago, 31% of patients who identified their race and ethnicity are white, 30% are Latino, and 29% are African-American. 70% of those who died in Chicago due to COVID-19 are black, while they only make up 30% of the city's population. In Wisconsin's Milwaukee County, 81% of deaths from COVID-19 are black, even though that population only represents 27% of the county. In the Quad Cities, which is a region of five cities clustered on the banks of the Mississippi River along the Iowa/Illinois border, including Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline, Illinois… we're seeing similar trends as well.
