Welcome to the Think Like a Thought Leader podcast. I’m your host, Courtney Bowden, and I’m a Marketing & Communications Strategist for High Performing Black experts who want to position their brands as global industry contenders. And I believe the best way to do that is by ascending into Thought Leadership. Because, truth is: the most successful and impactful brands have messages and missions that move people. After the last 5 years of partnering directly with my fair share of brilliant entrepreneurs, I’m talking to some pretty remarkable thought leaders who share the most meaningful personal and professional stories behind their successes, as well as the actionable strategies entrepreneurs want to know to create and sustain more revenue, opportunities and influence related to the work you do in the world. They say that you can tell what person truly values by observing how they spend two things: their time and their money. We’re talking about time, and why you can’t afford to spend another minute alienated from your purpose, passion and fulfillment. That’s why I thought there was no one better to have this conversation with than Marcel Benson, the founder of Benson Watch Company. In fact, he founded his company on the principle that "Time Should Be Spent Doing What You Love" Benson Watch Company has been named a top watch brand by the New York Times, boasts a number of celebrity customers, thousands of 5 star reviews, and is the only Black-owned company to have timepieces available in major retailers like Macy’s. In this conversation, Marcel shares why he decided to finally own his time and leave his lucrative, 6-figure career to start a watch company that is poised to generate an estimated $15 million in 2022 and disrupt the industry in a major way. This is the Think Like a Thought Leader show, where Black entrepreneurs, change makers and leaders like you learn to build wealth related to the work you’re called to do in the world. Given the rapid advancements brought about by tech, there has never been a better time to innovate by developing a startup. While opportunities to disrupt abound, studies show that one of the major barriers to entry in the startup world is access to capital. This is especially true for Black founders. In fact, just 1% of venture-funded startup founders are Black. Even worse, 81% of venture capital funds have no Black investors. I’m talking to Alfred Duncan, a two-time Grammy and Emmy nominated artist, author, speaker, serial entrepreneur, and visionary who has dedicated his life to motivating the masses by traveling the world performing uplifting messages in front of over 100,000 people. ln addition to the work he does to help catalyze at-risk youth in his hometown community in Washington DC, Alfred is the founder of Black Men Ventures. It’s an organization that offers Black men founders the opportunity to access the capital they need to grow, scale and sustain their businesses. And we’re going to be talking about how Black founders - with the right support and ecosystems - can begin to narrow the wealth gap through entrepreneurship. This is the Think Like a Thought Leader show, where Black entrepreneurs, change makers and leaders like you learn to build wealth related to the work you’re called to do in the world. What’s your zodiac sign? That question used to be considered just a corny pickup line, but that’s not the case for my next guest who believes that your natal chart (which is essentially a map of the planets at the time of your birth) can help you tap into your soul’s purpose. I have the pleasure of being in conversation with Jheannell Bloom, a psychic astrologer and frequency healer who empowers women all over the world through her Astrohive community. If you remember, we kicked off 2021 on the show with a conversation about healing and restoration, now I’m talking to the secret weapon of many successful women about how you can clarify your calling, confirm your gifts and get the kind of counsel you need to better understand who you are and how you show up. How to Thrive in Love with Dr. Aesha Adams-Roberts Black women are one of the most religious groups of people in America, and much of what informs our romantic relationships are our shared faith traditions. Lately, though, it seems many of us are re-evaluating the relationship we have to ourselves, which is leading us to move a lot differently in our romantic relationships. The main question at hand for many Black women is: How do I truly thrive in love? ...without the self-sacrifice and the self-sabotage? Our friend, resident Love Doctor and Celebrity dating/ relationship expert, Dr. Aesha Adams-Roberts, returns to the show to help us answer those questions during this JUICY (and empowering) conversation that’s ALL ABOUT LOVE.
