Sepsis is a global health emergency, with nearly half of all septic patients being children. In this episode of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Podcast, Samantha Gambles Farr, MSN, NP-C, CCRN, RNFA, speaks with Niranjan Kissoon, MD, MBBS, FRCP(C), FACPE, MCCM, about his Thought Leader presentation at the 2026 Critical Care Congress, Making Sepsis the Next Success Story in Global Health. The panel also discusses how access and equity play a part in how sepsis is treated. From a global perspective, Dr. Kissoon emphasizes that the most important thing is advocacy and prevention from a governmental level by creating national action plans, making sure the healthcare system is resilient, and utilizing technology and innovation to create better ways of providing care; and from a societal level by educating patients and families about nutrition, hygiene, vaccinations, and seeking care early. Niranjan Kissoon, MD, MBBS, FRCP(C), FACPE, MCCM, is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics (Pediatrics and Surgery, Emergency Medicine) at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is the past president of the World Federation of Pediatric Critical and Intensive Care Societies and currently serves as president of the Global Sepsis Alliance. He is cochair of the pediatric Surviving Sepsis Campaign, vice president of the Canadian Sepsis Foundation, and chair of World Sepsis Day and the International Pediatric Sepsis Initiative. He also serves on the Sepsis Alliance USA and the African Sepsis Alliance advisory boards and is also a founding member of the Caribbean Sepsis Alliance.
Meghann Butcher built RepSpark, a B2B wholesale e-commerce platform now moving over a billion dollars a year, without a single line of tech on her resume. She grew up in her dad's apparel and footwear business, hanging around the warehouse at five years old. At 27, when her father's order-entry tool started catching on with independent sales reps, he asked if she wanted to run with it. She said yes, and bootstrapped it from there. In this conversation, Meghann and I get into how a psychology and communications major became the product visionary for a software company, why she still leans on empathy over technical skill to lead, and how staying close to customer pain points built a platform now used by nearly 100,000 retailers. We also talk about being a mom of three while running a growing company, building a drama-free culture, and what it actually takes to scale a bootstrapped business on your own terms.Tune in for a real look at building something durable without the usual playbook.
What is precision medicine, and how should precision medicine be handled in the face of guidelines and protocols? In this episode of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Podcast, Diane C. McLaughlin, DNP, AGACNP-BC, CCRN, FCCM, speaks with Michael R. Pinsky, MD, FAPS, MCCM, about his Thought Leader presentation at the 2026 Critical Care Congress, The Effective Management of Shock: Moving From Physiology to Guidelines to Precision Medicine and Ultimately Personalized Medicine. The panel also discusses how to titrate care for individual patients. Protocols and guidelines are the foundation for patient care and are instrumental for having all healthcare professionals on the same baseline when treating patients. Precision medicine involves individualizing care for a specific patient, and Dr. Pinsky emphasizes that guidelines should never supersede an understanding of pathophysiology at the bedside, including observing your patient and paying attention to how individual patients respond to specific treatments. Monitoring the individualized response is required for the best care. Michael R. Pinsky, MD, FAPS, MCCM, is a professor of critical care medicine, bioengineering, and anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He is also Docteur Honoris Casusa at the Université René Descartes Paris V School of Medicine in Paris, France. In 2012, he became one of the first 20 critical care physicians to receive a Master of Critical Care Medicine (MCCM) from SCCM. He is currently an emeritus (honorary) at UPMC. At the University of Pittsburgh, he is vice-chair emeritus for the Department of Critical Care Medicine and a faculty member at the Center for Critical Care Nephrology and the Center for Military Medicine Research. My first book came from 15-minute morning writing sprints in a notepad before I even brushed my teeth. This second one makes me cry almost every time I open it. That's probably the best way I can explain why writing it has been so completely different, and why I wanted to bring you into that process right now, while I'm still in it. I'm currently writing my second book. I have an agent, I have a deadline I gave myself, and I have a story I feel so much weight around that I can barely open the document without crying. That's where I am right now, and I figured if 82% of Americans want to write a book, I might as well pull back the curtain on what this process actually looks like. This episode is about how I'm actually making it work, what I've had to learn about deep work versus shallow work, why external accountability is the only reason any of my biggest goals have ever happened, and why this book, about my ancestors and what they survived so I could be here, feels like the most important thing I've ever tried to do. IN THIS EPISODE: Why 82% of Americans want to write a book and almost none of them do The difference between the writing that runs your business and the deep work a book actually requires Tony Robbins' urgent versus important framework and how it explains exactly why your book keeps losing to your inbox Why I write my second book at 9:30pm after dinner instead of during work hours The Katyn massacre, my great uncle, and what I found in the historical research that confirmed stories I had heard my whole life Why I cry almost every single time I open this manuscript How to use force functions to finally make the thing happen that you keep saying you'll do someday What a book proposal actually is, and what the traditional publishing timeline really looks like If you have a book on your heart that you keep putting off, this one is going to feel very familiar. What if the words you use (and the stories you tell) are the currency of your career and business? Aurora Winter has built multiple 7-figure companies, won awards for her books, and been featured everywhere from ABC-TV to Oprah Radio. And her thesis is: communication isn't a soft skill. It's the foundation of everything! In this episode, Colleen and Ashleigh sit down with Aurora to dig into the neuroscience of communication, why your words are quite literally triggering (or killing) buying decisions, and what Steve Jobs knew about storytelling that most people don't. Whether you're trying to grow a business, launch a book, or just get people to actually listen to you, this one's packed! We talk about why thought leaders need to be authors (even in an AI world), how to turn one idea into multiple streams of income and impact, and why Aurora finally sat down to write the YA fantasy series she's been thinking about since she was nine.Aurora Winter

This and all episodes at: https://aiandyou.net/ . I'm talking with Professor Michael Gerlich . His new book, The Convenience Trap: What Happens When AI Becomes the Mind Behind Our Lives is about the threats to what I call our "cognitive autonomy" when we use AI the wrong way. And it turns out that the ways we tend to use it are mostly the wrong way, which was what Michael was talking about on the show last October, because he is the author of a widely-cited study showing that students' use of AI for cognitive offloading impaired their critical thinking. But his new research shows that following what he calls the structured prompting protocol, of using your brain first, AI second, results in improved learning. Michael is the Head of Center for Strategic Corporate Foresight and Sustainability at SBS Swiss Business School. His research and publications largely focus on the societal impact of Artificial Intelligence. He's also taught at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Cambridge, and other institutions. He's also been an adviser to the President and the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, the Uzbekistan Cabinet, and ministers of economic affairs in Azerbaijan. We conclude the interview by talking about conducting as a metaphor for directing our thinking, AI's effects on group collaboration, the effects on humans who are reduced to being monitors of AI, the mental models schools have of AI, possible controls on children using AI, and how AI companies might improve their products to help with these problems. All this plus our usual look at today's AI headlines! Transcript and URLs referenced at HumanCusp Blog.
Most networking advice was built for men and tested on men. It tells you to work the room, collect contacts, and follow up fast. But research across four continents and fifteen years of longitudinal studies shows that women who network like men consistently underperform the women who don't. Networking strategist and two-time author J. Kelly Hoey shares the goods from the landmark study that launched her latest book, The Social Billionaire. Women who reach the top don't just stay plugged into information flows. They build a second, inner circle of like-minded women with diverse networks, and they use three high-impact strategies most women have never been taught: brokering, churn, and visibility. If you've been told to "just get out there and network" and it's never moved the needle for your business, this episode explains why, and gives you the research-backed formula that actually works. In this episode of the She Leads Podcast, Adrienne and Kelly unpack the central finding of her new book, The Social Billionaire: the women who get internships, land roles, and grow businesses past the million-dollar mark run two networks at once. One is the broader information flow everyone else is in. The other is a smaller, intentional inner circle of like-minded women with diverse networks who give real feedback, real introductions, and back-channel advice that moves careers and businesses forward.Adrienne and Kelly get into the three high-impact networking activities women consistently skip: brokering, churn, and visibility. They talk about why "I don't have time to network" usually means defaulting to transactional outreach, and why the kindest thing you can do for someone is to be specific about what you need.To build a strong, healthy business with longevity, you must build your network strategically. Kelly tells us why.Chapters:

Rachel McElreath is 28 years old, graduated from the 5x Certification, and has already lived more lives than most people do in a lifetime. She started drinking at 15, Halloween night in Atlanta, a bottle of Hennessy handed to her by a friend, parents in crisis at home, and spent the next decade building a life that looked fine from the outside and was quietly falling apart underneath. She held jobs, went to college, went to beauty school. She also worked bottle service in Dallas, dated men who weren't available, and kept ignoring an inner voice that was getting louder by the year. The thing that finally made her stop wasn't a gradual awakening. It was a phone call from her doctor in late 2023 telling her she was one stage away from cervical cancer. That week, she left the relationship she was in. A few weeks later, she quit drinking and made the decision to be celibate, both at the same time. She spent 2024 meeting herself for the first time, rebuilding from almost nothing, and figuring out who she actually was without alcohol, without men, and without the nightlife identity she had built her entire social world around. Now she coaches women through that same process, not just getting sober, but building a life they're actually excited to wake up to. This conversation goes places a lot of podcast episodes don't. We talk about HPV and cervical cancer, three abortions in one year, sexual assault, trauma bonding, and what it actually feels like to realize that the shame you've been carrying isn't yours to keep. Rachel shares all of it without flinching, and that's exactly what makes her work so powerful. IN THIS EPISODE: Starting to drink at 15 when home didn't feel safe, and how that one decision shaped the next decade Working bottle service while her body was sending her signals she kept overriding The phone call from her doctor and what she decided in the weeks that followed Why she quit alcohol and went celibate at the same time, and what two and a half years of that has actually been like The loneliness of dissolving an entire identity and why 2024 was somehow still the best year of her life What she sees shifting in the younger generation around alcohol, and why she's genuinely excited about it LINKS/RESOURCES MENTIONED Follow Rachel on Instagram. The hardest shift in business is learning to lead your team without doing their jobs for them. Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, runs a 6,000-person, 24/7/365 operation where a communication breakdown is both costly and dangerous. She took a struggling, de-hubbed Pittsburgh International and turned it into one of the most celebrated airports in the world, and she did it by mastering how to communicate the WHY behind every decision. If you're a founder who has built your business on doing everything yourself and you're hitting the ceiling, this episode articulates why your ability to communicate a vision your team can execute without you in the room is the number one way to scale with excellence. In this episode of The She Leads Podcast, Adrienne Garland speaks with Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, which operates Pittsburgh International and Allegheny County Airport. Under Christina's leadership, Pittsburgh International became the first major airport in the world powered entirely by a microgrid, an Air Transport World Airport of the Year, and one of Fast Company's most innovative companies.Christina makes the case that communication is not a soft skill. Rather, it is a core leadership skill. Her assertion is backed by her actions during COVID: all-hands calls every Wednesday across three shifts for fourteen months. She also explains what she calls her legacy-first leadership approach and why she has no plans to put AI bots in front of passengers. If you have ever wondered whether your team actually understands what you are trying to build and why you're building it, Christina has spent eleven years answering that question one Wednesday at a time.Chapters:

This week I'm doing something a little different. Just me sharing what's been on my heart after celebrating my mom's 80th birthday. My husband spent four nights making 200 handmade pierogi from scratch to surprise her. I put together a slideshow of almost every photo that exists of her life, black and white photos of a little girl in postwar Warsaw, all the way through to the woman she is today, who still swims in the ocean every chance she gets and has more trips planned than I do. And going through all of those photos, I just kept thinking about what it actually took for her to build this life. My parents were born into a Poland that was still being rebuilt after World War II, where the Soviets came in as soon as the Nazis left, where my grandparents had a business the Communist party seized, took the profits, left them the debts. Where waiting ten years for your own apartment was just normal. Where people stood in ration lines for bread that wasn't there. And somehow, in the middle of all of that, my mom had this quiet knowing that she would one day live in the United States. Even while communist propaganda was telling her how horrible it was. She just knew. This episode is about her. But honestly, it ended up being about legacy: what our parents and ancestors carried so we could have the lives we have today. IN THIS EPISODE: The moment Karolina's mom decided they weren't going back to Poland and how that decision changed our entire lives How my parents defected from Poland during Poland's martial law: where the government was at war with its own citizens. What the first years in the United States actually looked like: trying to find work, not speaking the language and the recessions that almost took them out The slide show that went through 80 years of my mom's life set to Polish classical music and what it felt like to watch it with her Why I think my mom is the visionary of our family, and what I've inherited from that If you've ever thought about the shoulders you're standing on — this one is for you. X: @JanJekielek @americasrt1776 @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk @JTitMVirginia Join America's Roundtable radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Jan Jekielek, author of "Killed to Order: China's Organ Harvesting Industry and the True Nature of America's Biggest Adversary." Jan is Epoch Times senior editor, and host of American Thought Leaders. Jan's career has spanned academia, international human rights work, and now for almost two decades, media. He has interviewed nearly a thousand thought leaders on camera, and specializes in long-form discussions challenging the grand narratives of our time. He's also an award-winning documentary filmmaker, producing The Unseen Crisis, DeSantis: Florida vs. Lockdowns, and Finding Manny. About the Book: "Killed to Order: China's Organ Harvesting Industry and the True Nature of America's Biggest Adversary" A crime the Chinese regime can no longer deny—Forced Organ Harvesting. What if everything you need to understand about the Chinese Communist Party—and how the free world should respond to it—could be explained through this one issue? In this urgent and eye-opening book, journalist Jan Jekielek distills decades of investigations from reputable sources, combined with his own research and in-depth firsthand insight, into a compelling case for rethinking our approach to the CCP. Through the lens of grave human rights abuses—most disturbingly, the state-sanctioned harvesting of organs from prisoners of conscience—Jekielek exposes the inner workings of a regime built on deception, coercion, and control. Killed to Order: The Organ Harvesting Industry of China and the True Nature of America's Biggest Adversary reveals why continuing to misunderstand the CCP poses a growing threat to global freedom. americasrt.com https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 X: @JanJekielek @ileaderssummit @americasrt1776 @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk @JTitMVirginia America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. If your service business has hit a revenue ceiling, the problem probably isn't your offer, it's your pricing. In this episode, pricing strategist and author Linda Hunt introduces the concept of the "minimum aligned price," the pricing floor below which you're actually paying your clients to work for them. Linda covers the three points at which service businesses start to show weakness: the pricing conversation, scope creep inside the work, and a lack of repeatable processes. If you've been bootstrapping your way through growth, this is the formula for building the business that scales with you.In this episode of The She Leads Podcast, Adrienne Garland's guest is Linda Hunt, founder of Sum Solutions, author of The Money Conversation, and the financial architect known to the women she works with as the money clarity catalyst.Linda makes the case that "I cannot afford it" is almost never the real objection. Clients always find the money for what they value, but a discount in that moment teaches them they were right to hesitate. She also walks through the cost of scope creep on a high-touch client and why a defined service process is what lets the work actually scale.Linda introduces her free Perfect Pricing Formula and the principle that changes how women build service businesses: price your services from day one as if someone else were going to be doing the work, not you.Chapters:

You're ambitious and driven. You show up. And yet something feels off. Fatigue, the brain fog that won't lift, the periods that wreck you, and constant overwhelm. Your doctor told you everything looks fine. But you know it's not. In this episode, Karolina sits down with Leslie Jackson, functional nutritionist and founder of the Becoming Her movement, to talk about what's actually happening in the bodies of high-performing women, why conventional medicine keeps missing it, and what it really takes to operate at your peak without burning your body to the ground. Leslie went from panic attacks in Ubers, misdiagnosed ADHD, and propping herself up with IV drips just to function in enterprise sales…to becoming the wellness-obsessed sales rep who outperformed everyone in the room, then pivoting to build a functional nutrition practice dedicated to ambitious women who refuse to settle for feeling mediocre in their own bodies. IN THIS EPISODE: The hormone nobody is testing for, and why it explains the gap Why you might be experiencing early menopause symptoms decades too soon The express lane past everyone who is still drinking (Leslie says it boldly) The three unsexy lifestyle non-negotiables that move the needle more than any supplement Why your gut health is secretly tanking your business performance How healing internal inflammation creates more capacity to hold your big external goals If you've ever felt like your body is working against you instead of for you, this episode is for you. Women founders get 2.3% of VC funding. Not because they lack vision, grit, or ideas, but because the playbook they've been handed was built for men. In this episode, I sit down with Anna Mazarsky, founder of PinkX PowerCore, the first tactical platform built to close the funding gap from the inside out. Anna spent nearly two decades inside the fundraising world. When she pulled the data, she didn't find a confidence problem. She found a systems problem, a bias problem, and a pattern-matching problem no amount of mindset coaching was ever going to fix. So she stopped coaching and started building. We get into why female-led VC funds aren't moving the needle, why women consistently ask for less than they've earned the right to raise, and why 80% of something will always beat 100% of nothing. The system wasn't built for us. Anna is building the one that is. Chapters:

Brain lady Julie Anderson spent thirty years studying how neuroscience shapes women's success, and what keeps them from the million dollar mark is not capability. It is mindset, and specifically what their brains have been trained to listen to.In this episode, Adrienne sits down with Julie Anderson, certified brain health professional and international speaker, to talk about the mindset and neuroscience behind how women build and scale. Julie breaks down why women take on too much, why the word "challenge" activates fight response while "opportunity" opens the prefrontal cortex, and why that small shift changes what the brain looks for. They talk through the evening gratitude practice that has to include something about you, the visualization work elite athletes actually do, and something Adrienne noticed in an AI class that morning: a male instructor typing messy prompts and getting ten times the output of a brilliant woman correcting every comma. If you are building toward a million and wondering why the same patterns keep repeating, this one is worth your time.Chapters:01:38

Welcome to Building Brand You™, the podcast that helps you accelerate your success by unlocking your greatest asset – you. KEY TAKEAWAYS The key to creating impact beyond you is to make your story referrable - letting it go and putting it into the hands of others. Making space for others to be part of creating, shaping and sharing the story that you feel so connected to is essential, but often the most challenging. If you're not articulating your story simply and clearly, others are never going to be able to share it with others. Repetition - consistently, frequently and over time - is what it takes to build both your storytelling muscle as well as a set of impactful 'back-pocket' stories that are resonant, relevant and referrable time and time again. ABOUT KYM HAMER: Kym is an international leadership and personal branding thought leader, an executive coach, and a programme design and facilitation practitioner. This episode is for the coach who has been doing the work for months or years and quietly wonders whether she is doing it wrong. You are not behind. You have not missed the boat. But you might be measuring the wrong thing entirely. This episode is going to change how you see what your experience is worth and what kind of presence actually creates clients.WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER:* Why likes, views, and follower counts are not measures of your impact, your quality, or your client results, and what they actually measure on a platform designed to capture attention rather than create meaning* Why you are already a thought leader, including the insight that your lifetime of listening, guiding, and supporting people counts long before any formal coach training* What the experienced coaches and professionals you most want to reach are actually hungry for, and why a sixty-second video or a three-step framework cannot give it to them* What content with staying power looks like, how it travels, and why it produces better business results than content optimised for the algorithm* The shift from engagement-first to relationship-first thinking, and why being genuinely known to the right few matters more than being followed by the wrong many* The closing reframe that I want every experienced coach to carry with themGrab the free course, Stop Guessing and Start Signing Clients: https://candymotzek.lpages.co/vfo/Want to see what's actually working for coaches right now? In this episode, we break down the three nominees for the Excellence in Exit Planning Awards and evaluate them the way most people won't: by looking at the actual criteria, the quality of their ideas, their public influence, and whether they've truly moved the profession forward. We examine the cases for Todd Yeiter, Kristen Carlson, and Jerome Myers, and compare them across seven dimensions, including originality, credibility, practical applicability, public-facing footprint, and ecosystem impact. But this conversation goes beyond an award prediction. It becomes a deeper discussion about what thought leadership really is in the world of exit planning. Is it mastering the structural mechanics of a deal? Is it helping owners build companies that can run without them? Or is it naming the invisible human problem no one else wants to touch: what happens to the founder after the deal is done? If you care about business exits, founder psychology, transition planning, or the future of the exit planning profession, this episode will give you a lot to think about. In this episode: The official criteria for Thought Leader of the Year Why thought leadership is harder to judge than business performance The case for each nominee The seven-part scoring framework used in the analysis The final prediction for who wins in 2026, and why The bigger question: If the money were no longer the issue, and the transaction was complete, would you actually know who you are on day two? Hospital gowns strip your dignity. That's what Dr. Cindy Trice learned firsthand during treatment for advanced cervical cancer. When a friend brought her a pair of pajamas, it changed everything: she felt like a person again, not just a patient. That moment became the origin story for Kickit Recovery Wear, a company designing stylish, functional post-surgery clothing and chemo-friendly apparel for women at every stage of recovery. In this episode, Cindy shares the 16-year journey from idea to launch — including a paralyzing car accident at 18, a career as a veterinarian, a sold software company, and the fourth-grade friend who helped her finally bring it all to life.During chemo, a friend brought her a pair of cute pajamas. She put them on and everything changed. She walked laps around the nurses' station. She let visitors in. But the nurses could not work around them, and she realized the hospital gown exists for a reason. The question was: why has nobody made something that works for patients and medical staff? That idea sat for sixteen years. In the meantime, Cindy became a veterinarian, built and sold a software company called Relief Rover, and eventually launched KickIt with three co-founders, including her best friend since the fourth grade. They split ownership equally and built the whole thing together. She is also a patient advocate for Cervivor and wants you to know: cervical cancer is preventable. Get screened. If you are building something from a problem you lived through, this conversation will feel familiar.Chapters:
