Truth Matters with Teri McCarthy is a podcast looking at today's difficult topics and helping Christians process the world around them using the clear grid of Scriptures to help us know what we believe and why we believe it, because Truth really does Matter..
Most whites rushing to endorse #blacklivesmatter mean well. It's probably their way of saying, "I'm white, but I'm NOT racist." Perhaps they should reconsider what they're actually endorsing. #BLM is a new and insidious form of racism. Listen to today's guest speaker to find out what that really means.
Is it true that racism is linked to slavery? Is there something else at play here? Or do we just have a false narrative here in America based on neo-Marxist ideology that is trying to take over our nation like a creeping vine – looks pretty at first, and the next thing you know it’s taken over the entire building and corroding the mortar. And if we don’t tear it down, it’s going to destroy the very fabric of our nation. #TRUTHMATTERS
All human beings have a hardwired moral aptitude or capacity. It’s the way God designed us. This moral dimension is made up of choices we make with some sort of reference to what we believe is good and what we believe is evil; what is right and what is wrong. When there is an absence of biblical Truth and biblical knowledge, the human race has a tendency to make up its own moral code. Something has to fill that void. And in today's culture, it's usually a hashtag morality.
Why? Why would one political party want to exploit the coronavirus? Oddly, for many Democrat Party leaders, it must seem like a God-send! What were the six most powerful positives President Trump had going for him as we neared November’s election? The EconomyLowest unemployment rate in our nation's historyTough tariffs on China (canceled in April)Massive Trump ralliesThe powerful Religious Freedom ActFour million Americans lifted off food stamps since his election—because of household economic upturns All that was destroyed by the response to the Wuhan virus. Two of the world’s major health organisations disagree on mask wearing. The World Health Organisation (WHO) currently discourages mask use while the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends them. Who is right and what evidence is there that masks prevent contamination? Well, I hope you'll bear with me in today's podcast as I muddle through a boatload of research to find the answer. Let's think about responses to COVID-19 in light of the actual numbers—responses should be made based on facts, truth, and actual data. I want us to make informed decisions and not to be led about by people with bad motives and bureaucrats who have become more than a little power hungry. Can we do that?If you like this podcast and think it’s been helpful, please take a moment to subscribe, give me a thumbs up, leave a comment and even SHARE – it’s helps to know folks are listening. THANK YOU to all clear-thinking, engaged, caring, and brave pastors and Christian leaders who got involved and said "NO" to the Mayor Lucas's original order to require sign-in sheets and to turn registration over to city government. These orders were unconstitutional. But due to godly men and women signing petitions, protesting, and getting involved, LETTING THEIR VOICES BE HEARD the orders were changed yesterday, May 4th.
Our world-wide pandemic and quarantine crisis provided an opportunity for the Church to come alive, to stretch out her hand and remind our nation, and our world, that God is faithful and that Jesus alone holds the cure for what ails the human soul. This was our BIG chance to say to the world, “Look to Jesus! He’s still HERE!” And in the midst of the fear, and death, and conflict, and shortages, and confusion, poor and broken Russell Moore, the third most influential Southern Baptist leader on the planet, made a video on “Reading in Exile” and his author choice is none other than horror fiction writer, Stephen King! You can read a transcript of today's podcast on my blog:http://terimccarthyblahblahblog.com/stephen-king-or-the-king-of-kings-how-russell-moore-has-failed-the-church-once-again/
This is the final podcast in the series on the Great Hebrides Revival of 1949-1952. What are some takeaways we can apply to our lives - lessons we can learn from one of the most powerful moves of God in the past two hundred years?
This week we’ve been looking at a small area of Scotland called the Hebrides and how God moved by His Spirit on this place starting in 1949 until 1952. Duncan Campbell, the primary preacher during the revival, never allowed people to say HE brought the revival to the Hebrides. He always pointed to the men and women of God who prayed for the move of the Spirit and he always pointed to God’s mercy and grace saying that it was God Who brought the revival to His people.
In today's podcast we finish the story of Duncan Campbell's eyewitness account of what happened in the Great Revival of the Hebrides in 1949-1952. God moved in such miraculous and powerful ways forever changing the hearts and lives of men and women and children through the outpouring of His Holy Spirit and Power.
In 1968, Duncan Campbell tells the first-hand account of what exactly happened during the Great Hebrides Revival of 1949-1952. This is Part I of his eyewitness report.
From 1949 to 1952, the Holy Spirit fell on the Isle of Lewis' small village of Barvas and transformed men, women, and children who lived there. It was one of the greatest moves of the Holy Spirit since the Day of Pentecost. This week I'll be looking at what brought the revival, how it changed lives, and its odd American connection. Revive us again, O' Lord! Revive us again!
Is it possible, as followers of Christ, for us to find meaning in the small details of a faithful life, raising a family, caring for others, quietly serving without applause or recognition? Am I okay to never be famous, or celebrated?
There's a lot to be thankful for in this strange time we're living in...we just have to look for it and follow the old hymn, and count our blessings!
Little did I know that when we brought a three-pound puppy into our lives, God had big plans for the both of us! I hope you'll listen to today's podcast as I share how my dog Mindy taught me about God.
Ever feel like God doesn't like you? Ever feel He's displeased with you? Lots of saints have. Even Mother Theresa! CS Lewis called it a Weight of Glory. Hope this encourages you as we wait together for the end of quarantine. If you need prayer or want to share something, please feel free to email me - teresajane.mccarthy@gmail.com ! Blessings!
I’m not moved by what I see; I’m not moved by what I feel; I’m not moved by what I hear going on around me; I’m not moved by empty store shelves; I’m not MOVED! I stand on the promises of God and I know His Word is trustworthy and every promise is yea and amen! There is no shadow of turning with God and He is faithful. The Church has survived for over 2,000 years and she’s just getting started. God is using this in our lives to purify us and to help us see what is really true and what is really important and what is really His priority for our lives and for our world. Let God arise! teresajane.mccarthy@gmail.com - please let me know how I can be praying for you and what God is doing in your life during these exceptional times.
Thank God we can bring our 2nd place lives, our mistakes, our birth defects, all of our foolishness, our sins, and we can lay them at the feet of Jesus and say, “I'm so flawed and broken but here I am Beautiful Jesus, here I am and if you can do anything with this 2nd place life of mine-- I am willing. I give myself to you.” And Jesus, full of mercy and grace and power and love takes these 2nd place lives of ours and He uses them for His glory! God is so good!teresajane.mccarthy@gmail.com - feel free to email me with any prayer requests or praise reports. BLESSINGS!!
Your birth was not an accident. You were brought forth for this very day! God knew you were needed for March 19, 2020. No matter where you are or what is happening around you – God is mindful of you. So, let’s SEEK HIS FACE and CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD and ask HIM, “Lord, I was born for this moment in time; I was born for this place! WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE ME DO?!? For some it is to pray, some to minister to neighbors, others to work in a difficult places like a hospital or even a grocery store--A nursing home or even a pharmacy. Thank you to all of you serving our communities! For some of us it is to praise His name, or run a small lending library on the corner in our neighborhood; perhaps to chat with friends and encourage one another. Each one of us was given a gift that God wants use today for His Kingdom and His glory!
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to STAND your ground, and having done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, and with your feet fitted with the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints. The Church has persevered for over 2,000 years. God's got this! Here's a vlog that might encourage you! We are living in some amazing times! Thank God He is near. During these times it is important for us to bring every thought into captivity and declare with our mouths, with our hearts and with our minds, “OUR God reigns and He is trustworthy and dependable. We are not moved by what we see or what we feel, but we stand on this truth: God is love and He loves us and He will perfect the things concerning us!" Amen! So be it! It’s decided! I choose His Peace.
In my lifetime, I’ve never heard a presidential address brought on by a disease or a sickness. Have you? So, I started thinking about a book I read a few years ago on the rise of Christianity. The early church always did the hard things well, so I thought that would be a good place to start when processing the coronavirus' impact on the human race. I did some research and found the story of Cyprian’s Plague in Rome - Christianity exploded during the plague and many sociologists say it was Christian service during the suffering that made all the difference. Maybe there's a lesson in there for us.Rodney Stark, "The Rise of Christianity: How the Obscure, Marginal Jesus Movement Became the Dominant Religious Force in the Western World in a Few Centuries" (Harper Collins, 1997).
CS Lewis believed that dogs with names go to heaven. That when a dog is loved by a human being, then that dog is in heaven waiting for its owner to come home. I like to believe that. I believe all the dogs I’ve loved are in heaven waiting for me with tails wagging and tongues licking and happy faces--waiting there for me on the front porch of my heavenly home. Here's a transcript of today's podcast. http://terimccarthyblahblahblog.com/dog-named-peanuts-owned-girl/Also, I hope you'll follow me on Twitter! https://twitter.com/teriblahblah

Sloths are cute! Acedia? Not so much. Acedia is my biggest sin. And the only antiserum for this sin is spiritual discipline. It is me opening up my heart, mind, and soul to the living God and inviting Him into the most mundane tasks of my life and celebrating His love and beauty in the most monotonous of tasks. If you'd like to read the transcript of today's podcast, you can find it @ http://terimccarthyblahblahblog.com/finding-holiness-mundane/
Karl Marx wrote in The Communist Manifesto, “I wish to avenge myself against the God who rules above. The idea of God is the keynote of a perverted civilization; it must be destroyed. My object in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism,” (1848). Well guess what? Marx is dead and capitalism isn't. Marx is dead and Jesus isn't. Marx is dead. I wish his ideology would die too. Sadly, Tim Keller quoting him so often and legitimizing Marx's evil ideas keep Marxism alive and viable to a new generation of unaware Believers!
In today’s Celebrity Christianity it seems that only the strong, the flashy, the brilliant are admired and recognized. Best-selling authors and world-renown speakers are the ones that get the following. We like our TV evangelists, our hipster praise and worship leaders, the attractive, the fit, the well put together, the articulate, the clever and funny. We like Christianity to look good, to smell good, to fit in to today’s standards of beauty and chic. And yet…
In Spectacular Sins, John Piper works hard to make a case that God is in control and therefore he actually ordains sin for his own purposes and brings about natural disasters as judgement. I strongly disagree. Here's what we do know: Even the most horrible things in our lives can be turned for our good and used for God’s glory. Not that He willed it, but surrendering it all to Him, He takes a pile of garbage and filth and turns it for His glory and for our GOOD!
What's the difference between being free and just loose? Is it important? Maybe freedom isn’t as much about where I am as who I am. Freedom isn’t about governments or human rights or the ability to come and go as I please. Freedom is about doing the right thing even when it’s hard; freedom is about making choices that are difficult and complex and often costly. In Christ Jesus, it is the freedom to obey.
It’s really important as followers of Jesus that we know who are the movers and shakers in our Christian world. Who are those gatekeepers? Because what they believe, and what they teach has a tremendous impact on the Church and our nation. You might think, “I don’t care about that…” Fill in the blank. But the harsh reality is, that "thing" cares about you and your complacency gives it room to grow. Edmund Burke said the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Sometimes I really, really wish that I could put God's name in my Google search engine and come up with some answers. You know, like when you can't remember the name of a movie or you can't remember which State some national monument is in? All you have to do is put in a word, or a close facsimile of the name, in Google, hit search and tah dah...there's your answer. Ever wish God worked like that?
Sadly we’ve become a people that believes it's more righteous to criticize and protest against refugee vetting, immigration reform, and to stand up and speak out for a woman’s choice, because ANYTHING is better or more virtuous than conservative or traditional values; anything is better than living out a faith which requires clean hands, a clean heart, and a pure mind. You see, we’ve become a Church that would rather cry out against the mistreatment of the marginalized than to look biblically and honestly at the sin that holds those individuals in bondage. This is why we can have an entire church service called "Reconciliation Sunday" and throw out a verse about what Jesus would do in today’s world, but not truly understand the basic principles of protecting life and pursuing holiness.
Tim Keller wants us to change the culture; he's dissatisfied with the status quo. He wants a revolution of vanguards. It’s always a mistake when Christians are called upon to cry “Revolution.” The cry of Believers should be "Reformation", not revolution. In Scripture, we aren't called to change our culture--we are called to bring Jesus to all of humankind, and the by-product of that is then, a changed culture. Keller tries to sanctify Socialist philosophers such as Gustavo Gutierrez and Karl Marx and call their ideology Scriptural in order to ignite a cultural revolution that is nothing more than godless human endeavors to save a dying world.
Tim Keller, in his three books, Reason for God, Generous Justice and Every Good Endeavor, markets Marxism as Democratic Socialism. Democratic Socialism rests on certain values. Values that we as Christians understand and often embrace: caring for the poor, feeding the hungry, helping the homeless, medical care for the sick. Democratic Socialists takes care of people and as Christians we want to take care of people, right? But Keller’s love for Karl Marx is rather disguised, dodgy, and suspect. Trying to cut and paste Marxism so that it fits into a biblical worldview is not only wrong and dangerous, it’s terrifyingly deceptive.http://terimccarthyblahblahblog.com/tim-kellers-ungenerous-justice-cultural-marxism-and-the-new-branding-of-liberation-theology/
There’s a lot of chatter these days about transgenderism. In Frankenstein, the mutilating Dr. Frankenstein muses, “Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.” Society and our culture have only one narrative: gender is a choice and it is malleable. But truth, science, and Scripture teaches us differently.
Let’s face it, sincerity will never transform us or the world; sincerity will not save the world, but Truth and Truth alone will. Moving from just sincerity to sincerity based in Truth means seeking God with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and strength to know what is True and right and good; soaking ourselves in God’s Word so that His Truth may wash over us, cleansing us and helping us bring every thought into captivity—the captivity of His Truth.“It is not sincerity, it is Truth which frees us, because it transforms us. It tears us away from our inmost slavery. To seek sincerity above all things is perhaps, at its root, not to want to be transformed.”--Kathleen Norrishttp://terimccarthyblahblahblog.com/ #TRUTHMATTERSThe YouTube Channel is: Truth Matters - Teri McCarthyhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfcXQ1QMdJW6BrXZv9FYzzQ?view_as=subscriber
There’s a lot of talk these days about immigration, amnesty, DACA dreamers, and the Christian’s obligation to protect all life--not just the unborn. What should our response be to illegals in our country and the criminal element crossing into our nation unchecked? In this podcast, I hope to provide some useful information and common sense answers to why we should protect our borders. https://fairus.org/issue/illegal-immigration/examples-serious-crimes-illegal-aliens
When did the role of the Church become making kids happy? Instead of that, we should have been teaching kids how to be holy. We've got an angry and misled generation on our hands filled with frustration caused by emptiness and longing...they have watched an empty and shallow Christianity that put more stock in being hip than being Christlike.
How long will it take before dominance of transgender females outperform all female athletes and in the process wipe female competitors out of the race thus annihilating women’s sports? How athletically outstanding does the performance have to be before we stand up and say, “Hey! That’s not a girl.”
