--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/parentprenor/message

When it comes to nailing the business side of your business, it can feel like you’re constantly juggling a bunch of balls and you’re not sure which one you need to tend to first. Most of us hate tending to the business side of our business - getting the legal docs right, putting in the systems to help you grow, understanding your pricing and more. But today’s guest, direct response copywriter Abbey Woodcock, shifted her business to teach the business side of creative freelancing including setting up systems to grow a freelancing business and building out an in-house content team. Abbey shares some of her expertise on today’s Mindset First podcast and talks about some of the key business systems you need to put in place in order to have your business grow and make more money.

It's really difficult to translate the things you do for other people with your own business. That's why excellent copywriting can take away the ambiguity in what you do or offer.  My guest today, Abbey Woodcock, explains that copywriting is important from day one and that copy that's done well doesn't feel like copy, it's a conversation. In this episode you will learn about: Where you look is what you find Look to where you want to go “Not everything is a revenue event, but everything is a relationship event.” - Brian Kurtz Don't think about the revenue that potentially comes from your network, think about the relationships Biggest mistake in launching a live event We have so much to offer the world than just raising children Equal opportunities for women means that we have to contribute in our own way Women can do anything! Hey Magic Makers!Welcome back to another awesome episode of the Magic Maker Podcast.Today I am bringing you another interview. This is only the third one we've ever had on this podcast and this is a woman you might not know, but you are going to be really thrilled to meet. Today, I am speaking with Abbey Woodcock who is the founder of Freelance Co-op and we are talking about something so critical if you are a person who trades money for time, which is basically all of us. But if you're someone who works one on one with clients, you will probably have found in your business that it is often very, very difficult to get that process of finding the person, bringing them on board, getting the work done, going back and forth with revisions, finalizing the work, delivering the files, getting paid to be quite a difficult process, especially when you know you can't control your client and sometimes your energy on your yourself is quite low. And then sometimes the deadlines get extended and then you feel guilty. So you feel like you have to give a discount. It becomes this whole crazy mess of expectations and work being done, work not being done. So what Abbey is bringing us today is this amazing ‘workflow' that we're going to talk about in terms of how to get that done in a way that's productive. And then she's going to dive deeper into this workflow. She calls the maker workflow at Magic Maker Live in October. Our conference in London and Abbey is a sponsor of this conference and we are so thrilled to have her there. She is going to be such a wonderful support for everyone in the room who is struggling with this. And I know over my career being a photographer, a designer, and a consultant, this is something that is so important and so many of us just don't know what to do. And she has developed this amazing system to help us with that. Read more Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Well, before we start recording, I think Rob mentioned that he’s been stalking you and aware of you for the past year. I really started paying attention to you when I met you in March at Bryan Kurtz’s Titans Master Class. You gave a presentation to the group about helping creatives build systems. Abbey: Right. Kira: Which was spoke to me as a creative who just sucks at systems. With your business partner, you’ve figured out how to make it work. I know we’re going to dive into that and a lot of other things, our topics today. To start, Abbey, let’s start with your story. I know you mentioned that it’s not a rags to riches story. But let’s dive into how you got into copywriting. Abbey: Yeah. Sure. I always say that my copywriting journey started in seventh grade because I wrote a 30-page letter to a boy in seventh grade to ask him to the school dance. That was my first long-form fields letter. Rob: Did it convert? Abbey: No. No, zero convert on that one. Kira: 30 pages? Abbey: Yeah, 30 pages. Kira: 30 pages were necessary, okay. Got it. Rob: That gives a little bit of context for what we’re going to ask about Ramit and what you’ve done for him, because 30 pages is short for some of the stuff he does. Abbey: Yeah. Absolutely, I was prepping many years ago for that job. Then I graduated high school, which was exciting.
