Ask any scholar or student of knowledge—and they'll tell you: some of the most common, urgent questions they get are from women. About menstruation. Purity. Prayer. Hijab. Going out. Marriage. Divorce. But not enough people are teaching it. To address this gap, here begins the explanation of الأربعون النسائية (Al-Arba'een An-Nisaa'iyyah)—a collection of 43 hadith compiled by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Shakir ash-Shareef, each one dealing with rulings specific to women, drawn from the Sunnah and explained upon the understanding of the Salaf. In Episode 1, Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan breaks down the first hadith of the book—where the Prophet ﷺ says: “Do not prevent your women from the masājid, but their homes are better for them.” - What exactly does this mean today? - Is it really better for women to pray at home—even in Makkah and Madinah? - Can a husband stop his wife from going to the masjid? And when is that allowed? - What conditions did the scholars set for women going out—and are they still being met today? - And what did Aisha رضي الله عنها say that still speaks volumes about modesty and change in society? This isn't just theory. It's the lived fiqh of women—starting here.
In today's episode, I'm sharing how to unlock REAL confidence as a Muslim woman — not the fake, loud kind — but the kind that's quietly rooted in tawakkul, self-respect, purpose, and Qur'anic truths. You'll learn:

John speaks with Islam scholars Dr. Mark Durie and Dr. Richard Shumack to explore the complex relationship between Islam and Western culture, drawing a contrast between Muhammad's leadership, shaped by military endeavors, and Jesus's Gospel of peace. They discuss how Islam's foundational texts—the Quran and Hadiths—emphasise submission and sacred struggle, which stands in tension with Western values like freedom and the rule of law. A lack of theological literacy in the West obscures the roots of current challenges, including Hamas' extremism and rising anti-Semitism. The dialogue examines broader differences, contrasting Islam's historical pursuit of authority with the West's vitality, rooted in principles of love and rational inquiry. Dr. Durie and Dr. Shumack observe that Islam's narratives of victimhood and a rejection of modernity hinders progress, while Christianity's call to "love your enemies" fosters resilience and growth. Dr Mark Durie is a pastor and academic. He writes and speaks on a wide range of topics which include the connection between faith and culture, freedom of religion, the persecution of religious minorities, and the origin and history of Islam. He is the author of Double Minded and The Third Choice. Dr Richard Shumack is a philosopher of religion specialising in Muslim and Christian belief. He is the author of Jesus Through Muslim Eyes and Witnessing to Western Muslims.
In this episode we share and reflect on two beautiful Hadiths.
Just how radically different is the portrait of Isa in the Qur'an with Jesus of the Bible? This week we'll hear once more from president of Watchman Fellowship James Walker's interview with Sara, a former Muslim, who was moved and convicted by Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew. If Allah is truly merciful and loving, why did the Sermon on the Mount seem so radically different than the Allah of the Qur'an? This interview took place live at the Defend Apologetics Conference at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary this past January.Sara is is a former Muslim who became a Christian after questioning the teachings of the Qur'an and the Hadiths. This week we conclude our series on Islam with the testimony of a former Muslim who became a Christian after questioning some of the basic teachings of the Qur'an and the Hadiths. On this episode president of Watchman Fellowship James Walker had a chance to talk with Sara at the Defend Apologetics Conference in January about her transition from Islam to Christianity. This week we'll hear about Sara's background with Islam and how she started to question what the Qur'an and the Hadiths really say about Jesus.Sara is is a former Muslim who became a Christian after questioning the teachings of the Qur'an and the Hadiths.
