Welcome to Talk'n Docs, the monthly podcast where we dive into the world of documentaries and review them for your listening pleasure. Hosted by Jennifer Smith, Logan Crosland and Cowboy Roger, the crew continues Season Three with a review of 2021's Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer. They also discuss the film adaption of Aileen's life, Monster. Topics include: Aileen's murders, her motives and background, and ultimate death.
Aileen Wuornos was an American serial killer who gained notoriety in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was convicted of murdering seven men, Richard Mallory, David Spears, Charles ‘Chuck' Carskaddon, Peter Siems, Eugene ‘Troy' Burress, Charles ‘Dick' Humphreys, and Walter Gino Antonio, in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Wuornos became one of the most infamous female serial killers in American history. Her modus operandi typically involved luring men to secluded areas under the pretense of sexual encounters and then shooting them. Wuornos later claimed that she killed these men in self-defense, alleging that they had either raped or attempted to rape her during these encounters. Wuornos was arrested in 1991 at the “Last Resort” Bar and her trial became highly publicized. She was convicted of the murders and sentenced to death, with her last meal being a cup of black coffee. Her case raised significant debates and controversies regarding her mental health, her background of abuse and trauma, and the ethics of the death penalty. Aileen Wuornos was executed by lethal injection in Florida on October 9, 2002. Her life and crimes have been the subject of various books, documentaries, and films, including the 2003 movie "Monster," in which Charlize Theron portrayed her and won an Academy Award for her performance, and the documentary, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003). Watch until the end, where I will be posting some clips of her last interview, her last words, and how she feels that she would have turned out if she wasn't so tortured since childhood. Comment

We are back! We had technical difficulties and a family emergency but we are back this week with Aileen: Life & Death of a Serial Killer.
* ARTE DA VITRINE: Estúdio Grim SEJA UM(A) APOIADOR(A) * Apoie o RdM a produzir mais conteúdo e ganhe recompensas exclusivas! * Acesse: https://apoia.se/rdm * Conheça a Sala dos Apoiadores: http://republicadomedo.com.br/sala-dos-apoiadores/] ESTÚDIO GRIM – Design para conteúdo digital * Portfólio: https://www.behance.net/estudiogrim * Instagram @estudiogrim * designgrim@gmail.com PODCAST EDITADO POR * Ilha Flutuante: https://www.ilhaflutuante.com.br/ CITADOS NO PROGRAMA * “Lady Killers: Assassinas em Série” (https://www.darksidebooks.com.br/lady-killers–assassinas-em-serie—drk-x/p) * “Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer” (1992) * “Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer” (2003) * “Monster: Desejo Assassino” (2003) OUÇA O RDMCAST NO SPOTIFY! * Acesse: https://spoti.fi/2DWoFCX GRUPO ABERTO NO TELEGRAM * Link direto: http://bit.ly/2Ao6dOd Tem algo para nos contar? A True Crime documentaries spotlight with a focus on three films; Nicholas Broomfield's Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2004), Bart Layton's The Imposter (2012) and David Gregory's Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life and Ghastly Death of Al Adamson (2019). With presenters Paul Anthony Nelson, Sally Christie and Flick Ford.
In 1992, Aileen Carol Wuornos, an itinerant sex worker, was arrested for the murders of seven men in or near Volusia County, Florida in 1989 and 1990: all of them shot while Wuornos was on the job, all of them shot at point-blank range. She became, in the view of the public, according to the filmmaker Nick Broomfield, who made two documentaries about her and about the media storm that surrounded her, a "man-hating lesbian prostitute who tarnished the reputations of her victims,” a useful foil for family-values string-em-up-dead politicians who wanted to show that they were tough on crime–and an unlikely lesbian hero. This week we're revisiting one of our most popular episodes! A decade after making the documentary film “Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer” about serial killer Aileen Wuornos, director Nick Broomfield was subpoenaed as a witness for Aileen’s final appeal in overturning her death sentence. When he became a participant in Aileen’s legal fight, Broomfield decided made this new documentary which looks at Aileen's violent, tortured childhood in Troy, Michigan and her subsequent years on the road as a hitch-hiking prostitute which culminated in her committing seven murders in the span of one year. For the documentary, Aileen granted Broomfield exclusive interviews in order to share her side of the story—conspiracy theories and all—as she prepared to be executed. **LOOKING FOR MORE TCO?** [Check out our bonus episodes on Patreon!](https://www.patreon.com/TrueCrimeObsessed) We covered **"Serial"** episode-by-episode and capped the series off with an interview with **Rabia Chaudry**--Adnan's friend who brought his story to Sarah Koenig AND with **Asia Mcclain**--Adnan's alibi witness! Det är en konst att kunna bygga en hel film på att man inte får intervjua huvudpersonen i den. Den brittiske regissören Nick Broomfield (Kurt & Courtney, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer) behärskar dock den konstarten fullt i sin nya film Sarah Palin - you betcha!
Shortly after moving to Florida, longtime prostitute Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron) meets young and reserved Selby Wall (Christina Ricci) and a romance blossoms. When a john (Lee Tergesen) attempts to brutalize Aileen, she kills him and resolves to give up prostitution. But supporting herself and her new girlfriend through legitimate means proves extremely difficult, and she soon falls back on old ways. More johns die, and Selby can't help but think her new friend is responsible. Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer - In this documentary, filmmaker Nick Broomfield follows the saga of Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who has been accused of committing a brutal series of murders. Broomfield conducts interviews with Wuornos herself, and his crew films her trial as well as her interactions with religious fanatic Arlene Pralle, who gives Wuornos dubious advice and legally adopts her. The cameras also roll as the accused's attorney ignores the case at hand to negotiate a deal to sell his client's story. Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer - British documentarian Nick Broomfield creates a follow-up piece to his 1992 documentary of the serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a highway prostitute who was convicted of killing six men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Interviewing an increasingly mentally unstable Wuornos, Broomfield captures the distorted mind of a murderer whom the state of Florida deems of sound mind -- and therefore fit to execute. Throughout the film, Broomfield includes footage of his testimony at Wuornos' trial.
