Send us a textWhat happens when the comfort zone becomes a cage? In this captivating conversation, boxing coach Luke Freshour reveals how stepping into the ring transforms not just fighters, but people. Having started boxing at 22—considered late by most standards—Luke's journey from losing his first three fights to becoming a two-time Golden Gloves champion offers powerful lessons in resilience that transcend the sport itself."Fear is excitement, it's stepping out of your comfort zone," Luke explains, sharing the psychology he now imparts to his fighters at Upgraded Industries in Cleveland. His approach to coaching goes far beyond technique, focusing on mental preparation and visualization that builds character capable of withstanding life's inevitable challenges. When he tells his fighters that "the experience of fighting is life in a 5-10 year period condensed," he's speaking from hard-earned wisdom.Host Mike Bono brings his own perspective as both a comedian and former martial artist, creating a fascinating parallel between different forms of performance anxiety. Their discussion reveals surprising commonalities between facing an opponent in the ring and an audience on stage – both requiring the courage to fail publicly and the resilience to keep showing up. Mike's story about getting knocked out in his 29th Taekwondo match by a female opponent creates one of the episode's most authentic moments of vulnerability. The conversation delves into practical aspects of boxing training for MMA fighters, the psychology of competition, and how combat sports build transferable confidence. From visualization techniques to reframing nervousness as energy, listeners will discover actionable insights for any challenging situation in life.Whether you're a fighSubscribe for exclusive content: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1530455/support Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEReaper Apparel Reaper Apparel Co was built for those who refuse to die slowly! What if the life you want is hiding behind the excuses you keep making? In this episode, I sit down with Ngo Okafor - who is a two-time Golden Gloves champion and founder of Iconoclast Fitness in NYC. He shares the truth about what it actually takes to transform your body, your mindset, and your life. Ngo didn't start boxing until age 31. He built his dream gym from scratch while training clients 14 hours a day and raising a family. But what sets him apart isn't talent—it's discipline. Relentless, unshakeable discipline. We talk about why most people say they want to change, but never do, how to break out of toxic habits and mental loops and why starting small, staying consistent, and getting honest with yourself is the only real way forward. If you've ever said “I don't have time” or “I'll start tomorrow”—this episode will challenge you to take a hard look in the mirror…and finally start showing up for the life you say you want.TOPICS:Discipline vs. excusesThe Mental and physical health connectionBuilding from zero to transformationMORE FROM NICK:Book a FREE call here to learn about the Move Your Mind Program: https://tinyurl.com/yc3zmu35Find all links here: https://nickbracks.start.page/Sign up to the website: nickbracks.comConnect with Nick on Instagram, Twitter & LinkedInMORE FROM NGO:https://www.ngookafor.com/ Hosted on Acast. Adam Jones is a former Major League baseball player, a five-time all star and four-time Golden Glove who retired a fan favourite and local legend for the Baltimore Orioles having spent 11 happy and successful years there. He was even given a ceremonial send-off in front of fans and dignitaries when he retired to mark his time in the city.Rewind to 2008 though and few would have predicted such an outcome. Adam was just a prospect in his early 20s when he was told he was being sold and had to leave the safety net of his native west coast for the other side of the country.Initially shocked, he could have seen it as rejection and played the victim. But he's not cut like that. Within minutes his brother told him it was a chance to ‘show out'. To prove how good he can be to a whole new set of people. And Adam spent the next decade turning an unforeseen hurdle into a new adventure and a remarkable career on and off the field. Adam's story is a lesson for all of us in the power of attitude when things don't appear to go your way. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Much of Kris Kristofferson's musical narratives put you on the opposing seat in the confessional while all the while there are fleeting glimpses of your own story reflecting back. Kris was more than a renaissance man. He was an individual whose values and beliefs were held close but easily parsed in the music that made him who he was. There was all that we want in our own selves: honesty, forthrightness, certainty, humor, and a social conscience like the one he shared with the late Sinead O'Conner. A poignant and aspirational tribute from a man who was army ranger, a helicopter pilot, firefighter, a Golden Gloves boxer and Rhodes Scholar in literature who credited a philosophy professor as his greatest influence. We'll spend time with his words and music this October morning. Here's hoping you can join us.

There's very few in the sport of boxing who can say they went toe to toe with the best of them and have the facts to prove it. Cleveland's own Showtime Shawn Porter is one of those few. A former Golden Gloves champion and two-time welterweight world champion, Shawn left it all in the ring. Many believe Shawn had much left in the tank before he hung up his gloves for good, but he bet on himself and found life after boxing to be just as successful as his professional career.
