Today I am joined by Eileen Lamb, founder of the Autism Cafe. I recently shared a video of Eileen's son, Charlie, that really struck a chord with my audience. It showed how his use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) had progressed over time, offering a message of hope for others in similar situations.Eileen talks openly about how tough it can be to share your family's journey online. Her story started when Charlie began showing signs of autism at 18 months. What began as updates on her personal Facebook for friends and family soon grew into the platform she has today, with a large following across social media.Among her involvement in the field, Eileen is also an author. Her first book, All Across the Spectrum, is an autobiography that explores her experience being diagnosed with autism after her son. It highlights the differences in severity and what it's like to parent a child on the spectrum while being on the spectrum herself. Her second book, Be the One, is a collection of prose poetry about overcoming life's challenges. Eileen's third book, And Yet Here You Are, is coming out soon. For parents raising children with autism, Eileen has some advice: Be mindful of social media. While it can be a great place for finding support, community, and information, it can also lead you into a lot of unnecessary controversy.#autism #speectherapyWhat's Inside:Raising an autistic child with high support needs.A warning for parents on social media.Elieen's personal journey with autism and sharing with the online community. All Across the Spectrum, Be the One, and Eileen's forthcoming book And Yet Here You Are.Mentioned In This Episode:The Autism CafeEileen Lamb (The Autism Cafe) on FacebookEileen Lamb (@theautismcafe) on InstagramEileen Lamb on TikTokJoin us in the ABA SPEECH Connection MembershipRose Griffin (@abaspeechbyrose) on Instagram

Welcome back to Behavior Hour! We have missed you all dearly and have been so excited to release our first interview of Season 2. The Behavior Hour ladies had an opportunity to sit down and talk with Eileen Lamb. Eileen Lamb is an author, podcast host, and a badass mother to 3 beautiful children. Throughout our conversation we discussed moving from France to Texas, parenting two children on the autism spectrum, beginning her blog The Autism Cafe, and then writing her first book! The vulnerability and openness that Eileen shared with us was eye-opening and allowed us to talk about issues when communicating with others about Autism. The Build Back Better shenanigans purportedly by serious Democratic politicians proves they are owned by billionaires and millionaires. Today I discuss two chapters in my book, "How To Make America Utopia: Take Away The Economy From Those Who Rigged It" because these two chapters play an important part in the inability to get Build Back Better passed now. Politicians owned by millionaires and billionaires try every gimmick to help the rich as they screw the working class. Threadbare US Social Safety Net: The War on Science, Medicine, and Equality for All: Across the nation, elected Republicans at every level of government display a callous disregard for the health and lives of the American people, sowing disinformation and resistance to public health efforts to contain and defeat the pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic is a global health emergency that requires a coordinated and mobilized medical response, one based not only on public health expertise but also principles of social cooperation and solidarity. But in the United States cooperation and solidarity are almost alien values in a nation rent by growing political divisions and more substantively defined by extremes of wealth and class inequality. In the hyper-capitalist United States, a threadbare social safety net is the norm and even people's health needs are commodified for financial profit. The culture of solidarity required to meet the challenges of a public health emergency is not exactly the default setting for a social system dominated by financial and political elites. --- If you like what we do please do the following! Discover what’s possible when an autistic self-advocate courageously shares her stories online to create a space for people to feel that they are not alone. Eileen Lamb is an autistic self-advocate whose son is also on the spectrum. Eileen hosts a blog called The Autism Cafe, where she posts articles and resources for parents. She published her first book last August, called All Across the Spectrum. You can also find her photographs on Instagram @theautismcafe. In this episode, Eileen and I discuss her son’s diagnosis and his progress from receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. It was especially interesting to hear about her experience receiving a diagnosis as an adult. I really appreciate her candor as she takes us on her journey, from growing up feeling different to the mixed emotions when she learned of her own autism. Eileen is originally from France; therefore, we touch on the surprising differences in attitudes towards autism between France and the US. For the first time in a public space other than on her blog, Eileen shares a traumatic incident that involved Child Protective Services and left her feeling betrayed by her son’s ABA team. We also delve into the controversy of ABA therapy and the myths surrounding it. Eileen opens up about how hard it’s been to receive online attacks from other self-advocates and how she handles those criticisms today. ----more----We appreciate your time. Now that you’re back in the atmosphere, how about an episode about... a train? Yep, that’s it. Rio does some action hero nonsense and coffee-based food poisoning runs rampant across Arizona. Good thing The Misfits are around to make things a little more chaotic. Listen like spring and talk like June on this week’s CWTAJ! Our weekly Jem songs are ‘I’m Taking A Train' and ‘All Across the Country’, performed by Britta Phillips. CWTA Podcast’s intro song is 'Groove Is in the Heart (Instrumental)' by Deee-Lite and the outro is 'Bizarre Dub Triangle' by New Order. CWTA artwork by @ignoretherobot on Twitter.

Hello! This time around, I wanted to capture a bit of a vibe from the time that one drifts off to sleep until the awakening. I started off with something from BIOSPHERE that for some reason reminds me of growing up in Daytona Beach, Florida. I lived not too far from the beach, and as the youngest of 6 spent a lot of time outside playing Frisbee in the summer. I was also not too far from the airport and Embry Riddle University. The students there often flew small prop planes for study (fun study, right?), and hearing this song from BIOSPHERE really takes me back to that time when I was young, carefree, and spending all day outside until day faded until night. I put in the rain to transition between 2 events: the end of the evening and that time when just before sleep when your mind begins to visualize bizarre things. I wanted you to imagine you are hearing something out of the ordinary, hence the GLOBAL COMMUNICATION talking and an excerpt from JIM HALL’s Beija Flor. Beija Flor is a piece written by South American composer (can’t remember who), and this rendition from JIM HALL does it much justice. As far as jazz albums go, his album All Across the City and Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue are both my favorites (tie). I have a lot of soundtrack material, and one day I’ll put more into use. I love everything about the soundtrack to American Beauty. Not only is it one of my all time favorite films (Kevin Spacey is an absolute hero!), but the music is dead on accurate as far as creating the right mood for the film. I’m envious of THOMAS NEWMAN. When you read his Wikipedia page, you’ll be blown away by the amount of output he’s had. Oddly, I discovered the song Cirrus (HUGH & SATURATION) from a game created by IVORY called 4 DIFFERENCES. When the game loads, you can click a link to their website and get all of their compositions free. Not bad. Great game as well! Again, more field recordings of a creek to break things up a little bit. The sleeping night is all about transitions. The DAVID HELPING song comes from an album called Sleeping on the Edge of the World, which is appropriately named for our nightly passage. David shares a website with Jon Jenkins, so it’s worth checking out. I have every album that PETER GABRIEL has released. Most people didn’t like OVO: The Millennium Show as much as his other stuff, but I love it. Peter’s not singing every song, there are a lot of cameos, but it’s him through and through. I spent a lot of consecutive days wearing the grooves out on this album, and every time I hear it, it’s like the first time that I’ve heard it again. And that’s okay. I have some more of his stuff that I’d like to use at some point, probably as excerpts. The last 2 artists, ROBERT RICH and DAC CROWELL are both artists that I discovered via MAGNATUNE. Robert is a household name to those that like their ambient a little bit dark, somewhat like Steve Roach in feel. DAC is a bit unorthodox, and definitely has his own approach to soundscapes which are innovative and memorable. You can stream both at MAGNATUNE. If the ending seems abrupt, it is meant to be that way (the song honestly ends like that) as you are awakening. And who ever wakes up over the course of 30 minutes? Only in Hollywood. Well, I enjoyed making the mix, and have even more ideas for the next one. I’ll create one for the sleepers probably next, or a soundtracks mix, or a collage of snippets from rock tunes. We’ll see. Enjoy!turn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic
