Journalist and novelist Dawnie Walton joins co-hosts Whitney Terrell and V.V. Ganeshananthan to talk about U.S. concert culture. Why are live concerts so popular this summer and why have they so often become violent? Walton discusses how recent examples of fan violence speak to racism and sexism in American culture, as well as the role social media plays in fandom. Finally, she reads from her 2021 novel, The Final Revival of Opal & Nev, which focuses on the fictional partnership between a Black American woman, singer Opal Jewel, and a white British man, guitarist Neville Charles, and discusses her story's connection to the infamous Altamont Free Concert in 1969. In this episode, we talk about all things Beyoncé! We highlight some of her career highs and talk about some of my favorite songs off of each album. Tune in to hear about Beyoncé and some delicious recipes! Recipe: Buffalo "Blue Ivy" Chicken Dip Two chicken breasts (shredded) 16 oz of shredded cheese (monterey jack/cheddar) 1/4 cup bleu cheese dressing 1/4 cup Frank's Red Hot 4 oz of softened cream cheese (cubes) Kosher salt Fresh cracked black pepper Combine ingredients above in a bowl (use half the cheese in the mixture), transfer to 9x9 baking dish, top with 4-8oz of shredded cheese. Bake at 400F for 15 minutes; then broil for 3 minutes. Garnish with chives, scallions, or bleu cheese crumbles. Adjust the recipe for spice and consistency as needed - it's very customizable! If making this dish for one scale back the ingredients by half, (1 chicken breast, 1/8 cup of bleu cheese dressing, 1/8 franks red hot, 2 oz cream cheese) and for the cheese, we add cheese with our hearts (add as much or as little as you'd like). Cocktail: Boozy Watermelon LEMONADE 1.5 oz watermelon pucker 4 oz fresh made lemonade or store bought 1 oz of vodka 1 sprig of mint (spanked) 1 reusable straw (#SAVETHETURTLES) Can garnish with a lemon slice, tahin rim, and mint! It's absolutely delicious and super refreshing! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Happy Bey Day! It's Wednesday and Shameik Moore is here!
Today is September 4th and while for most people, it is just another day. However COMMA, if you are anything like Urban Laughter, you are celebrating your muva's birthday - Beyonce's birthday. In this week's episode, Urban Laughter makes plans for her holiday, we speak on the black magic women that are Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka, another mass shooting, and much more. Also be sure to check out The Rude Urban Truth's Store where we are still offering free shipping with promo code 5KBawheads.
Listen as I give homage and respect to Beyoncé and her creativity throughout her career and many different, yet iconic eras. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that Beyoncé is amazing and I STAN! No but honestly, she’s a diva, an independent woman, and she’s been on for years now! With that being said, what better day to celebrate her other than on Bey Day eve?!...well I guess on Bey Day. Regardless, let’s eat cake! Get in formation and click on the Anchor link to tune in! ✨ Reminder: Music can only be heard through the Anchor app or shared link!
The Intersection Ep. 18: Get Free or Die Tryin’ Trigger/ Content Warning: description of sexual assault Happy J-Day Hov! No, it doesn’t have the same ring as Bey-Day, but we don’t care… we weren’t gonna miss the opportunity to shout out one of our faves on his birthday and our recording day! (also the Knowles Carter/ Carters do not play with their publishing so we had to edit this and repost). #TheTea this week Malaika isn’t sure what autism is and is not, but she’s interested in two shows that have come out centered around an 18-year-old who is ready to date (Atypical) and a surgeon (The Good Doctor) with autism and what they have to say. We agree black-ish ia black, Very Black and we are feeling it. Spike gonna Spike, the Chöclát G. Wûnda and Malaika Salaam were probably both too young to watch She’s Gotta Have It, when they did… but they did and are here for the reboot and all of the conversation and criticism about the new “Fatnecks” series. And finally, there is no such thing as a free lunch or free premium channels, winter break is for binge-watching and it’s beginning to smell, look, act a lot like Christmas or something like that. We’re intersecting at marginalization and enslavement this week. What happens when people who are alike/akin ware not empowered any where in the world? How is there a modern-day slave trade happening in Libya? (Hint: for those of you who were with her, she has a history of not being with you). And how does this relate to all the reports of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and sexual assault? Obviously if you are Matt Lauer or Russell Simmons you #TriedIt and now join the list of men in powerful men toppled by allegations of sexual misconduct. Plus, we thought JCPenney was #DoingTheMost with TEP4JCP, but dropping Russell Simmons puts them in league with HBO, NBC firing Matt Lauer, and Netflix moving on with Kevin Spacey and we are here for it. In episode eight, live from the line to sit on Kmart Santa's lap at Indooroopilly Shopping Town, Peter welcomes Bec back from the US and is ready to start a full-on war with the Campbell/Callea podcast - and on Bey Day, of all days! Peter is still bitter about someone who unfollowed him on Twitter and pretends his anger is part of a broader conversation about the validity of YouTube celebrities. Bec meanwhile has caught Catching Fire and wants more ladies in family films, quelle surprise! In Movie Club, Home Alone and Home Alone II: Lost in New York document the heart-warming rise of a budding young sociopath and where exactly do the McCallisters get their dough?
