Here's my latest hot forecast, we get a break Friday and Saturday, bigger heat next week.
As we gear up for this weekend, we look for our second real round of heat this year. Unlike May's dry heat however, this time humidity will be in the picture. For Friday night into Saturday, we are on the watch for strong to severe storms to move through areas of North Dakota and north central Minnesota.
This month, the state of Minnesota has seen severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and lots of drizzly, cloudy days. June has not felt too summery, but that is beginning to change. MPR News Chief Meteorologist Paul Huttner joins Minnesota Now with details on the forecast.

He emphasizes the importance of heat training, which increases plasma volume and sweat rates, enhancing the body's cooling mechanisms. Key strategies include avoiding pre-race fatigue, adapting pacing plans, and using hydration and cooling techniques. Dixon recommends sauna or steam room sessions post-workout to boost plasma volume and suggests practical tips like choosing light, breathable race apparel and using cooling sleeves. He also highlights the importance of smart hydration and walk breaks to manage overheating. Gabriel Bravo is one of the founders of the company Semillas Plantae and farms with Mima Picado at El Tablazo Farm in Costa Rica. In this episode, Gabriel talks about how Semillas Plantae is structured with 4 partners who operate the seed company and how they distribute their seeds. Gabriel explains how they source seeds from outside of Costa Rica and trial them to see what can grow in their bioregion and how he is always on the hunt for Costa Rican heirloom varieties and the stories that come with them. We also discuss what it is like growing seed in the tropics where there is a very humid season that is a nightmare for growing dry seeded crops and a dry season that is much better suited for seed production. We then have a more technical seed growing conversation about growing cilantro for seed and producing seed for biennials such as carrots in a climate with no cold winter to help with vernalisation.
