Send us a textThis is the latest in our Birthday series: Manifest is 15 years old!Manifest has offices in the US (New York and LA), London, Australia and Sweden. The total group fee income is £8m. Interestingly £4 of that is now in the US, £3 in the UK and £1m divided between Sweden and Australia. On this week's show Alex reflects on 15 years on Manifest. Before we start, the big news is that the PRmoment Awards 2025 are open. All the categories, the updated entry form and the 2025 entry pack can be viewed on the awards microsite. Also, thanks so much to the PRmoment Podcast sponsors the PRCA.Here's a summary of what Alex and PRmoment founder Ben Smith discuss:4 mins Alex divides the 15 years since he founded Manifest into 5 year segments.“When we started we didn't have any clients, didn't know how to run an agency, no board experience.”“Brewdog was a star in the ascendance like no other in those first few years we worked with them. That then attracted big brands quite quickly. Everyone was asking how did you do that: The answer was ‘by having more influence that you give your agencies generally.'”“In the early 5 years, one thing that was difficult was there was pressure of recruiting people and being responsible for their jobs.”14.30 mins “We (Manifest) have changed the PR industry in lots of ways.”16.30 mins Alex talks us through years 6 to 10 years of Manifest.“One of the biggest transitions for me personality, was from founder creative to founder CEO. I'm not sure I've ever finished that transition.”“Not many people are playing the long game, not in agency land anyway.”23.30 mins How did Manifest's mix of clients change in the 6-10 year phase compared to the 1-5 year stage?“After 10 years we were around £5m…the number of people was the big difference.”27 mins Alex on the last 5 years in Manifest, which includes the toughest part of Manifest's story.“In the UK, our home market, economics have been a challenge. Brands have temporarily pulled back from looking at things holistically.”“There's a quiet confidence in the PR industry at the moment. But no-one is getting cocky.”31 mins Alex on why Manifest's US bridgehead has worked. The US is now Manifest's biggest market.“We were able to look at the differences between the different markets and make them work for us.”34 mins What offends Alex more, Manifest being called a consumer PR firm or an advertising firm?36 mins Was 2022/23 Alex's toughest time in business? What happened? And how did Manifest get back on track?40 mins What are the most important skill types within Manifest now?“I remember once being called an expert generalist.”“You need specialist skills and generalist interest.”42 mins Who have been the most important people in the Manifest story along the way?

We're all officially in our thirties now. There are three certified, genuine "Olds" on this podcast, and things are about to get much more serious and mature. We're still going to do things like fight about which food is objectively better and talk about which famous people we might be the reincarnations of, but just know that while we're doing it we really wish we were talking about stocks, 401ks, and banks. You know. Welcome back everyone, Baskar Sundaram here. Today is a special day. Today, we celebrate the birthday of my late father, Mr. Sundaram.Every morning, I light a candle in front of his photo and for one minute, I recite a pair of phrases in Tamil.எல்லாரும் நல்லா இருக்கணும்எல்லாருக்கும் எல்லாம் கிடைக்கணும்This translates to "Everyone should be well. Everyone should get everything."These are the very words that my father would utter each morning when he woke up, and each night before he went to bed. When I asked him about it, he told me, "If you develop a habit of praying for others, you will never need to pray for yourself." His wisdom echoed his selflessness. As for the second line, he explained, "The universe is not fair and it is never going to be fair. Fools, cowards, liars, and the selfish often hide in high places. You have to remind yourself every day to stand up for some things in this world to ensure everyone gets everything."Yesterday, during my son Kai's parent-teacher meeting, his teacher, Mr. Davies, mentioned something that filled me with immense pride. He said, "Kai is always kind and very curious. He likes questioning maths, science, religious studies - why is it done or said this way?"Mr. Davies also told me about a school rugby final earlier this week. When high tackles injured Kai's team, he, as the captain, pointed out the unfairness to the referee. Kai received the fair play award, and his team won the finals. As I stepped out of the school, looking up at the sky, I knew my father was smiling too.Remember, one of the kindest things you can do for anyone is pray for them. And sometimes, you have to stand up and be counted. If you stand for nothing, you will find nobody against you and nobody for you.The world changes with each generation, usually because of a few brave and kind individuals who dare to make a difference. So, I encourage you: stay kind, do not fear unpopularity, and dare to make that difference.#HappyBirthday Appa. Your teachings have kept me standing even when people tried to push me down. You did not drag me up; you brought me up. #ThankYou Appa!Support the show

As my first year of being a part of your membership is coming to an end, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU for everything you shared with us. Pointing us to the direction of inquiry of who we truly are. This journey wasn't pleasant at all, but it worked and generated new patterns and behaviours of which I never even dare to dream about. Now I'm facing things in my life which I avoided for decades.Observing ''identified self'' it seems that things that most piss us off, press our buttons, irritate us are indicators/directions where to look and uncover what's really beneath that?Could you say some words about this, please?
Today, November 28th, marks…well, it marks nothing, but October 8th marked the 30th birthday of our very own Jonathan Lack, and to celebrate, Sean agreed to let Jonathan surprise him with any podcast topic, which Sean would then have to see through to the end! But we had some scheduling difficulties with our special guest, Jonathan's brother Thomas, who needed to be on this episode to make Jonathan's very weird podcast idea work, so this one's a little bit belated! But like last week's 30th birthday podcast for Sean, Jonathan's come up with a truly crazy idea to force his friend/co-host to engage with, and while we won't spoil the topic just yet – you'll have to listen to find out! – let's just say it's been in the works for over two years, and may one day factor heavily into Jonathan's therapy sessions. Today, November 23rd, marks the 30th birthday of our very own Sean Chapman, and to celebrate, Jonathan agreed to let Sean surprise him with any podcast topic, which Jonathan would then have to see through to the end! In this case, that meant an entire month of work and additional recordings, as Sean decided to jump Jonathan into a very weird corner of the internet and make him stay there for several weeks. The result is this week's episode, recorded over 4 weeks as we chart the journey Sean made us go on for his birthday…and the results are very funny. What exactly is the topic? Like all good birthday presents, that's a surprise – you'll just have to listen to find out!
