We began by watching Dean Richard talk abut the wilderness, John then offers some thoughts on how Genesis 17 and Mark 8 help us in this Lenten time. The Abrahamic Covenant offered in Genesis 12 and 15, and affirmed in Genesis 17 remind us that the blessing is so that the people of God will be a blessing for all people and all creation – so that humanity is restored, and creation renewed. Jesus reaffirms this when he says “Now is the time! Here comes God's kingdom! Let that blow your minds and change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!” What does that look like?John explores how Caesarea Philippi shapes Peters hopes for this kingdom, and how Jesus rejects this way of violence and power over, as he did in the wilderness. His way is love, replicating the service he received from the angels offering God's healing mission particularly to the poor, marginalised, rejected. This way can only lead to rejection and death. And Jesus invites us into this way – to follow him, because in this way is life - resurrected life.Briefly offer Archbishop Janani Luwum as an example of living this way. What I want to happen:How does this help us reflect on whose we are, who we are and what is ours to do at this time of change. You can read the notes to this sermon here

Honor God and Deliver His Benefits
Psalm 103:2-5 (NKJV) Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. These benefits are the blessing of the Lord. In the words of the apostle Paul, the blessing of Abraham. And Jesus has made them available to anyone that will believe.

John explores the theme of God's faithfulness in the readings for this Sunday, particularly Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18 and Luke 13:31-35, and what that might mean for us. He wondershow we have experienced God's faithfulness over these last couple of years?how does that help us be thankful and live in more life giving ways?We finish with a video from the diocese of Wellington that is part of our Lenten studies. It offers a way for us to pay attention to how we experience God's faithfulness and the ways we are offered life.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dODTPgVGNAg The notes for this sermon can be found here.

In "When I Give" of our 4 part series "Blessed To Be A Blessing" Pastor Jabin Chavez teaches about generosity and how our heart is directly tied to our finances.
How do we get the blessing of God? It seems like all of us want the "blessed life." Just look at social media. She is relaxing on the beach, drink in hand, watching the sunset, with freshly painted toe nails, and the caption reads "#blessed." In fact, we all want the blessings that God gives, but many of us do not really want God himself. Take a look in Numbers 6 at the blessing of God. God blesses those that he keeps, protects, illumines, looks after, and gives abiding peace. Does this describe your life? Are you resting in the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ? If not, run to Jesus with the empty hands of faith today. Receive Christ's mercy and grace, and follow him with wholehearted devotion. Give him everything. You will be glad, in the end!
How does this story add to the story we explored last week, a story that begins with greed, violence, and division; finds Abram and Sarai being invited into the impossible dream of being the first ancestor of a new people – unlike any other – through whom God will renew creation and restore humanity; an impossible dream tenuously held in the Israelite people; and fulfilled in Jesus. How does this story shape his interaction with Nicodemus and with the Samaritan woman? The script for this can be found here
This is a reflection more than a sermon. It is based on Abram and Sarai being called away from everything they know, everything that shaped who they are, everything that gives safety and security to be the means through which God might restore the human and non-human creation and be able to live in harmony with God’s original intention for the world.John (like Paul) presents Jesus as the means by which this promise, this hope, this covenant is fulfilled. And Nicodemus is invited to leave all that he knew, all that shaped who he was and gave him safety and security to join in this work. You can find the text of this reflection here

In this next part of our series “Blessed To Be A Blessing,” we unpack a sixfold blessing found in the book of Numbers to which every believer has the privilege of attaining. In this, we can and will see the true heart of God towards His people. When we truly believe that nothing can separate us from the love of God, we break hindrances to the flow of blessings that God wants to pour out on us.
Many Christians believe they don't “deserve” to be blessed by God. But “deserve” has no bearing on whether or not God blesses someone. We don't serve a God that discriminates, so He just pours out His blessing on those who have positioned themselves to receive it. This Sunday, in the next part of our series, Blessed To Be A Blessing, we will continue to talk about how we can position ourselves to stay under the umbrella of God's blessing.
God has blessings for us in categories we can't even conceive. If we are going to live the happy, healthy, and holy life God has called us to, we must position ourselves to receive it. God is in the blessing business! And as His children, blessing is our birthright. Join us to explore some of the habits of highly blessed people, as we continue our newest sermon series, Blessed To Be A Blessing.

Walking in the fullness of God's blessing requires knowing God as El-Shaddai (Gen 17) and Jehovah Jireh (Gen 22) as Abraham did. In our weakness, we must first RECEIVE the blessing as a free-gift from El Shaddai by faith, and then in love GIVE our blessed seed, trusting Jehovah Jireh to multiply it.
