What if the greatest evangelist in your church isn't the person on stage? In John 4, the Samaritan woman encounters Jesus at a well and everything changes. She wasn't a pastor, theologian, missionary, or Bible scholar. She had a complicated past, a broken reputation, and more questions than answers. Yet after one encounter with Jesus, she became one of the first people in Scripture to bring an entire city to Christ. This powerful message from Pastor Byron Ellis explores how evangelism is not about having all the answers. It's about sharing what Jesus has done in your life. The Samaritan woman teaches us that God loves using ordinary people with imperfect stories to reach others with the Gospel. If you've ever felt unqualified, ashamed, or afraid to talk about your faith, this sermon will encourage you to take your next step in sharing Jesus with the people around you. Your testimony may be the bridge God uses to change someone else's eternity. Pastor Johnson breaks down this sermon into 5 points.1. Trust, Preservation, and God as the Ultimate SourcePsalm 16:1–3 — Trust and Preservation: Pastor Johnson expounds on "Preserve me, O God" (Psalm 16:1), emphasizing God's protection in an unpredictable world. This preservation is likened to salting hams or canning to prevent spoilage—God keeps believers from "going bad." Trusting God as a refuge alleviates worry and provides safety.Recognition of God as Giver: Based on Psalm 16:2, Pastor Johnson asserts that all blessings—houses, cars, children—are gifts from God. This echoes Job's declaration, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away," promoting gratitude in both abundance and loss.National Heritage of Faith: "In God We Trust" on U.S. currency reflects America's religious foundations, built by pioneers who trusted God for their sustenance and future.2. Personal Testimony and Gratitude"If It Had Not Been for the Lord": Pastor Johnson recounts growing up in a rural shack with minimal clothing and worn-out shoes, contrasting this with current blessings to underscore God's provision—and the conviction that life would be "messed up" without Jesus. The Tommy Johnson Story: Pastor Johnson was repeatedly misidentified as "Tommy Johnson" in high school, who received accolades meant for him. Though Tommy was voted "most likely to succeed," he later died from drug addiction—a reminder that earthly predictions are fallible and life outcomes depend on following God's plan.Gratitude as a Pathway to Blessing: Pastor Johnson teaches that God loves grateful people and that an appreciative attitude leads to continued favor. Cultivating gratitude positively affects one's outlook and outcomes.3. Commitment and Identity in ChristLiving by Faith (Galatians 2:20): Pastor Johnson cites Galatians 2:20 ("I am crucified with Christ... yet not I, but Christ liveth in me") to explain that the Christian life is Christ living through the believer—rooted in His love and sacrifice.Being "Hooked on Jesus": Devotion to Christ is described as being "stuck on Jesus"—a lifelong commitment that makes returning to a life without God unthinkable after having "tasted" His goodness.Trials as Formative Experiences: God allows hardships—like a child learning to walk—as necessary for growth. He may permit struggles but will not leave believers down. "I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread."4. Being on God's Winning TeamThe Sports Analogy: Life is compared to a competition with winners and losers. God never loses—like a doctor who never loses a patient or a lawyer who never loses a case. Believers should want to be on "the Lord's team."Staying on the Team: Just as teams trade underperforming players, God may remove the uncommitted. Staying on His team requires "playing hard" through prayer, fasting, and seeking God's help with personal struggles. The responsibility lies with the individual.God's Validation (Psalm 56): Psalm 56:9 ("When I cry unto you, then shall my enemy turn back") confirms God is for us. His response—financial blessing, improved health, or removal of negative influences—is proof of His support.5. Practical Spiritual CounselPrayer for Daily Preservation: Pastor Johnson advises praying "Lord, keep me" before work, school, or travel, acknowledging life's unpredictability.Dealing with Negative Influences: Believers should call on God when facing opposition and create healthy boundaries—following Jesus' example of telling negativity, "Get behind me." Surround yourself with people who bring joy, not strife. The Blessing of Gathering: Citing Peter's statement, "It is good for us to be here," Pastor Johnson highlights the value of worship in helping believers avoid conflict and receive God's word.We hope you enjoyed this sermon.Join us this Wednesday at 630pm for our MidWeek Refuel. "The deeper story is one of reconciliation, grace, and learning who God says we are rather than who the world tells us we are." —Donald WilliamsAre you letting the first chapter of your life write the rest of your story? This conversation will change how you look at your past, your pain, and your family tree forever.Today, I'm sitting down with Donald Williams, co-author of Born of Nothing. Donald's life is a masterclass in shifting a multi-generational trajectory. He grew up in a South Carolina cotton mill village, surrounded by poverty and labeled a "linthead." He broke through that invisible ceiling to earn a Doctor of Education and work globally for the Department of Defense. But this isn't just about academic success. It is about heavy, painful contrasts. While Donald was sitting in university classrooms, cousins he grew up playing with every day were heading down a dark path that landed them on death row and in prison. How does one family line produce both prison rows and doctorates? Donald and I strip away religious theory to look at the raw, redemptive reality of how God operates in the grittiest corners of our lives. In this episode, we dive into: The Power of Hidden Intercession: How a grandfather's agonizingly specific night prayers anchored a family tree. A Miracle at 3:00 AM: A literal angel wakes Donald up, leading him to save his atheist son from a fatal drug overdose—a son who is now a global pastor. Overcoming the Spirit of Shame: The difference between guilt (what you did) and shame (who you think you are), and how to permanently strip off the labels the world gave you. The Art of Two-Way Prayer: Moving past one-sided grocery lists to actually listen to the Creator. Your family history is an explanation of where you've been, but it is not a prophecy of where you are going. What label are you ready to lay down today to step into the true identity and legacy Jesus has for you?Turn the volume up for this one. It is time to live Spiritually BRAVE.

Initial Feelings and Unworthiness Nervous about speaking. Feels unworthy of the opportunity to speak. Asks for prayers to calm nerves and for the Lord to have His way. Requests prayers for his wife to return to the will and house of God. Recalls a past experience at Mountain View Baptist Church where he made mistakes while preaching. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 Paul did not come with excellency of speech or wisdom. Paul determined to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Prayer Asks God to take over his body and use him as a servant. Prays for God to speak to hearts and save those who don’t know Him. Thanks God for the opportunity to proclaim His Word. Expresses gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Observations and Reflections A door slamming shut at work prompted thoughts about God’s work. A strong wind pushed a large rock out of the way to slam the door. Burning brush at night led to reflections on life’s fleeting nature. Life is like a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow. Embers blowing in every direction. The Importance of Knowing Christ Paul focused on knowing only Christ crucified. Wants to be wise enough to win souls for Christ. Doesn’t want to see lives wasted, ending in hell. Noah’s Ark Noah built the ark as God instructed. Noah proclaimed God’s coming judgment and love while building the ark for 120 years. Noah told people about Jesus and the love of God. Noah warned of God’s wrath and the need for safety in the ark. “Pitching” the ark within and without symbolizes the blood of Jesus Christ. Pitch is the same as the blood that Jesus Christ shed. Believes Noah was telling people about Jesus. Whosoever will may enter the ark and be saved. Abraham and Isaac God told Abraham to sacrifice his only son on a mountain. Abraham prepared wood and traveled with Isaac and a servant to the designated place. Abraham got up early and prepared everything. Abraham told his servants that he and Isaac would worship and return. Abraham had faith that God could raise Isaac from the dead. Isaac questioned the absence of a lamb for sacrifice. Abraham said the Lord would provide a sacrifice. The mountain was on the same ridge as Mount Calvary. The blood shed on Calvary is still effective today. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin. Abraham looked around and saw a ram caught by its horns. It had to be caught by the horns to be without blemish. The ram was Abraham’s perfect sacrifice due to his obedience. Jesus as the Perfect Sacrifice Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, willingly sacrificed Himself. Jesus looked through time and chose to go because of God’s love and man’s wickedness. Jesus offered Himself as a perfect, spotless sacrifice. Jesus willingly laid down His life. Jesus came to take away the sins of the world for those who believe. Offering Oneself to God Wants to lay down his body and offer everything to God. Believes in having faith to trust in God. Sharing Jesus is an honorable act. The gospel provides life and salvation. Jesus regained what was lost in the Garden of Eden. Jesus walked the corridors of hell for us. Accepting Jesus into our hearts is all that is required. The work of salvation is finished; it’s up to individuals to accept it. Impact of Wise Women Miss Ruth Atkins and Miss Bernice Millsaps mentored him early in his ministry. Miss Ruth shared scriptures about being wise enough to win souls. Miss Bernice was 94 and Miss Ruth was 92. They invited him to quilt with them at Coralville Center. He initially sneered at the invitation but later accepted. He brought his mother along, surprising the women. The women were ready to sow the word of God. The Ark and God’s Provision The ark represents a seed with life inside. God shut the door of the ark. God gave mankind seven days to enter the ark. God provided a way through Jesus Christ. The mountain where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac was on the same ridge as Mount Calvary. The Nail on the Tree Isaiah speaks of a nail hung upon a tree. The key to salvation was hung there for everyone, even the worst sinners. The key was hung in a sure place because of God’s love. Personal Testimony and Challenges Works with people daily and sees himself in them. Uses Greg Watson’s visit to his wife as an illustration. Sees the lost as a challenge. Was backslidden in his teenage years, turning to alcohol and other vices. Three preachers persistently shared the love of God with him. They would come up every night and tell him about the love of God. He initially hated their persistence but knew they were telling the truth. Their faithfulness and prayers eventually led him back to God. A preacher told him to repent or his wife would be lost. He repented and begged God back into his heart. God called him to preach the gospel while he was hunting. He resisted for six years until God saved his house. Doesn’t want anyone to end up screaming from hell because they didn’t know the truth. You can judge a tree by the fruit it bears. The Importance of Faithfulness and Love We need to be like Moses, standing in the gap. We need to be faithful to God. Love is the motivation behind discipline and correction. God’s faithfulness, justice, and grace are special. It’s not a waste to love the way Christ loved. Salvation and the Gift of God The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Hell was created for Satan and his angels. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Salvation is simple. Life is near, even at the last. God can cleanse the mind of sin and set captives free. Confessing with your tongue leads to salvation. The law cannot save you; only Jesus Christ can. Salvation is as simple as Peter stepping onto the water by faith. The scriptures are written simply enough for a child to understand. Trust in Him, believe in Him, and invite Him into your heart. God has no respect for a person or age. He knocks on the door and asks to be let in. Closing Remarks If he didn’t already have Jesus in his heart, he would run to the altar. Encourages listeners to renew their relationship with God. If you don’t know Him, this morning would be a good morning. If you have a burden for the lost, God will bless you.
This message reminds us that faith in God is not blind but grounded in truth, as God has revealed Himself through creation, through Jesus Christ, and through the testimonies of transformed lives. Using the framework of C.P.R.—Cause, Personal Testimony, and Resurrection—we see that the universe had a beginning, pointing to a Creator; that God is actively at work in people's lives today; and that the resurrection of Jesus stands as the most reasonable explanation of the historical evidence. Because of this, Christianity is not merely something that feels meaningful, but something that is true in reality, calling each of us to live as witnesses who are ready to give a reason for the hope we have and to share the truth of the gospel with others.

Simon Pranaitis examines how Paul's conversion testimony reveals three essential ways the gospel continues to work in believers' lives decades after salvation. Writing to Timothy thirty years after his Damascus Road encounter, Paul demonstrates that the gospel isn't just for new converts—it's the ongoing source of spiritual strength, evangelistic motivation, and worshipful joy. Simon walks through 1 Timothy 1:12-17, showing how Paul never forgot what God rescued him from. The gospel strengthens believers for service by keeping them grateful for God's deliberate choice to regard sinners as faithful. It motivates gospel proclamation by crystallizing the simple truth that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, with Paul identifying himself as foremost among them. And it draws Christians into deeper worship of the eternal, immortal, invisible King. Simon challenges listeners to write down their testimony, discuss it frequently with others, and rehearse gospel truths regularly—because no one outgrows their need for the gospel that transforms persecutors into apostles through God's perfect patience and super-abundant grace. ★ Support this podcast ★

In this powerful episode, of The Estranged Heart podcast, marking the 10-year anniversary of her own estrangement, Kreed explores why parents' feelings deserve care, but cannot be resolved by rewriting their adult children as villains. Drawing from her unique perspective as both a former estranged parent and adult child who achieved reconciliation, she examines the protective function of villain narratives and their ultimate cost. The Hidden Function of Villain StoriesVillain narratives aren't born from cruelty—they're born from overwhelm, pain, and protectionThe True Cost of Moral CertaintyVillain stories may soothe the nervous system temporarily, but they freeze movement and make real repair nearly impossibleWhat Estrangement Really ExposesParents were told (implicitly or explicitly) that if they loved, sacrificed, and provided enough, their child would stayThe Casualties of CertaintyGrief never completes its cycle because it requires contact with loss, not moral victoryShame goes underground and hardens into defensiveness"What feeling am I protecting by needing my child to be the villain?" This isn't an interrogation—it's an invitation. You don't have to answer today. What Your Feelings Deserve:Your grief deserves careYour anger deserves spaceYour shame deserves tendernessYour heartbreak deserves witnessesWhat They Cannot Do:Your child cannot be the container for those feelingsNeither can a story that requires erasing their inner life to soothe your own painKreed's Personal Testimony"I firmly believe that if I had stayed in that frame of mind [of villainizing my daughters], we would not be reconciled today. Did you know: the original Hippocratic Oath is a vow to other healing gods? Are you searching for true healing, but feeling lost in the complexities of the modern healthcare system? Do you sense a disconnect between physical treatments and a deeper, spiritual well-being? Melia unfolds a fascinating discussion about the original Hippocratic Oath, the cornerstone of medical ethics, to reveal its ancient origins - as a vow to other healing gods. Many do not understand or view this oath as a spiritual contract, a verbal promise made to higher powers; and NOT God.
