One of the best known scriptures in the entire Bible comes from Matthew 4:19 where Jesus calls Simon and Adrew to follow Him. Jesus says, "Come unto Me and I will make you fishers of men".  From the very first day of Jesus Ministry we see that Jesus called the fishermen of His day to come alongside Him to do His work. Soon after that first call, He came across James and John as they were mending their fishing nets and called them as well. There is something special about the fishermen and new builders of our world.   Today we will hear from 4th generation net maker, fisherman and hunter who not only follows Jesus Christ but also shares Him with others through his passion for the outdoors.

In this message from Matthew 14, Pastor Karl explores two seemingly separate events — the beheading of John the Baptist and the feeding of the five thousand — and reveals how they are deeply connected as a portrait of two contrasting kingdoms.Drawing on the parallel between Herod's banquet and Jesus's meal in the wilderness, Pastor Karl shows what sets the kingdom of the world apart from the kingdom of God: one ends in death, self-service, and corruption; the other in life, compassion, and abundance. Through the stories of Elijah, Elisha, and Moses, he demonstrates that the disciples had all the history they needed to trust Jesus in the moment — and yet, like us, they forgot. At the heart of this teaching is a simple but powerful truth: you are insufficient, but you are not useless. The kingdom of God doesn't have a supply problem — it has a distribution problem. God has never asked how much you have. He only asks what you have — and what you place in his hands, he multiplies.Discipleship, Pastor Karl argues, always involves cost, courage, compassion, commands, and cooperation. The good news is that the Good Shepherd is more than sufficient for all his sheep.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Matthew 13:44-58 | Kingdom Now: The Hidden Treasure, The Pearl & The Net

Play Episode Listen Later May 11, 2026 40:58

In this concluding message of Matthew 13, Pastor Karl unpacks the final three parables of Jesus — the Hidden Treasure, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Net — and challenges the common interpretations most of us have grown up hearing.Rather than reading these parables through a modern American lens, Pastor Karl takes us back into a first-century Jewish mindset to uncover what Jesus was really communicating. The treasure hidden in the field isn't something we purchase with our devotion — it's a picture of Jesus himself, who in joy gave everything to redeem his chosen people. The pearl of great price wasn't a treasure to the Jews at all, which is exactly the point: Jesus was revealing the shocking mystery that Gentiles — the unclean, the outsiders — would be included in the kingdom of God. And the parable of the net reminds us that not all roads lead to heaven, and that a day of separation is coming.Pastor Karl also draws a striking connection to the book of Ruth, showing how Boaz purchasing the field to gain Ruth as his bride foreshadowed what Jesus would do for his people — buying the field to possess the treasure within it.The message closes with one of the hardest passages for any pastor to preach at his own church: Jesus returning to his hometown, only to be met with familiarity and low expectation. The takeaway is pointed — low expectation limits reception. The messenger can be overlooked, but the message cannot: God chose to treasure you, not because of anything you offered, but because of the price his Son was willing to pay.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

We talk about something that feels almost counter-cultural today: the power of slowing down. From Fr. Fadi's beautiful multi-course Italian dinner for the Bishop to the everyday grind most of us live in, we explore how constant work, hustle culture, and “rise and grind” thinking are quietly harming our faith, families, and peace of mind. We unpack why true leisure isn't laziness—it's actually one of the most human and Christian things we can do. We discuss "Babette's Feast," how shared meals have shaped Christian culture for centuries, the beauty of real conversation and presence, and why the Sabbath is meant to be a protest against the worship of work and money. We also get honest about the struggle: busy parents, priest life, economic pressures, and how hard it is to break the habit of constant busyness. Featuring: Fr. Simon Esshaki, Fr. Andy Younan, Fr. In this compelling sermon, Pastor Karl concludes Matthew Chapter 4, tracing Jesus' move to Capernaum in Galilee of the Gentiles—fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy that light dawns in the region of the shadow of death—and the launch of His ministry with the urgent call: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” He unpacks John the Baptist's arrest and martyrdom as the forerunner who must decrease so Jesus can increase, then contrasts the radical response of the first disciples—Peter, Andrew, James, and John—who immediately abandon nets, boats, and family to follow Jesus and become fishers of men—with the great crowds drawn only by miracles to meet their needs. Pastor Karl challenges every listener: Are you part of the crowd seeking Jesus to fix your problems, or a true disciple whose primary identity has changed, leaving everything behind to seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness? He explains that biblical righteousness exceeds the Pharisees not in degree but in kind—imputed by faith in Christ, yet proven through a lifestyle of Scripture study, prayer, evangelism, tithing, and obedience. Join us for a powerful message that calls every believer to move from consumer to committed follower, embrace repentance as ongoing surrender, and live righteously as proof of genuine faith. Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

God has embedded the scriptures richly with countless pictures of Christ, and by studying these clues we can see a consistent message about both who Christ is as well as who God is as a triune being.  Stay connected at: https://tudoralexander.substack.com/ Timeline: 00:00 - Introduction  07:02 - Principles of Typology 14:18 - Biblical Basis for Typology 25:26 - Typology in Jesus Ministry  40:16 - The Trinity in Genesis 49:41 - Examples of Types of Jesus 57:10 - Prophecies of Jesus 1:04:09 - Final Thoughts

Gospel Matthew 15:29-37 At that time: Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain, and sat down there. Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them. The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel. Jesus summoned his disciples and said, "My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way." The disciples said to him, "Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?" Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied, "and a few fish." He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets full. ReflectionOver and over again we are touched by this one quality, this one way in which Jesus responded to our human condition. And that is, He was a healer. He enables us to speak to become who we really are, whole and entire, able to be where we need to be, see what we need to see and give the glory to God. It's a beautiful image of his ministry, and I think it's interesting in this passage we see the Jesus Ministry then transferred over to the disciples, sustaining it, feeding it. The role of the minister, the role of the church, the role of all of us to each other. And so He looks at these men and says to them, I want you to take care of these people, keep them fed, tend them. And they say, We don't have enough. We're not enough. And there's the miracle Jesus breaking bread, entering into their hearts and making them more, more than enough. More than they ever could imagine they could be. Closing Prayer ather, we see the greatness of your ministry, this way in which you were so powerfully displayed by your gift of healing to everyone and let it ignite in us a belief, a trust that we have this gift in ways that are so much less than it seems yours were, but not any really less in terms of its impact. We're not called to do spectacular things. But we are called to continue to minister to those who have healed and to keep their healing in our hearts as we guide them, lead them, teach them, forgive them. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
