I have been fortunate to interview Del Shores (Sordid Lives Creator) multiple times throughout the years. After working in the entertainment industry for more than three decades as a Director, Producer, and Writer, Del is finally making his NYC theatrical directorial debut with Jiggs Burgess' play Wounded.I am so excited to catch up with Del because I always have great conversations with him. In this NEW interview, Del is Baring It All with Call Me Adam about:Making his NYC theatrical directorial debutOne thing he hasn't done because something or someone got in the wayOne path his life took that he would like to put on full displayWorking with Whoopi Goldberg & Caroline RheaAn update on the Sordid Lives FranchiseSo much moreWounded, by Jiggs Burgess, is about a repressed nobody who thinks of himself as somebody. An addict. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? played out between hummingbirds. And a pussy eating dog. This is Wounded. Carrol could've been somebody, after all his book, The Crimson Valise, was made into a movie. Yet somehow Carrol's unhealed past, and an aging mother, got in the way. On the other hand, Carrol's classmate, Robert, was smart and driven. Went to one of the best private universities in the country on scholarship. But his damage led him down the path of addiction and eventually prison. In this darkest of comedies, the bleak paths our lives can lead us down are on full display. ***Warning: Recommended for adult audiences. Contains language of a sexual and violent nature.***Wounded plays at the Soho Playhouse as part of the International Fringe Encore Series from January 24-February 11, 2024.More on Del Shores:Del Shores is the writer/director/producer of the films Sordid Lives, Blues for Willadean, Southern Baptist Sissies and A Very Sordid Wedding. This episode is a celebration of Leslie Jordan, whose birthday is this Saturday (April 29). Known for his Emmy Award winning role of Beverley Leslie on NBC's Will & Grace, Leslie was delighting audiences on FOX's hit comedy Call Me Kat before his untimely death in October 2022. In March 2022, I got to interview one of Leslie's best friends, Del Shores, creator of the Sordid Lives franchise, live on Instagram. Leslie Jordan originated the role of Brother Boy in Sordid Lives the play, then reprised his role in the various Sordid Lives films & TV series. At the time this interview took place, Del was releasing his new book, The Sordid Lives Saga: Before The Trip, in which Leslie Jordan wrote the forward. Throughout this interview, Del talked about his friendship with Leslie along with some fun, never-before-told stories about him. Happy Birthday Leslie Jordan! Have you ever wondered what’s it’s like to live in a $5M apartment in the New York skyline? What about a $10 million coop? A $25 million penthouse? Joining us is Andi Schmied, aka Gabriella, a visual artist who pretty much became a performance artist, talking her way into some of these very posh residences. Later on, jazz with Bobbie Eakes, a face you know from Days of our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, and even the very last episode of Laverne and Shirley – but a voice you might not.
Bobbie Eakes and Melissa Neiderman start this week’s Pop City off talking about the joys of home remodeling as Bobbie and husband David Steen are hip deep in sawdust as they update their new home in Georgia. So many charitable organizations are feeling the pinch of the pandemic. Some are faced with shutting down, others have had to furlough staff, and some continue to work through the constraints of sheltering in place but still provide necessary services that help those in need. This week, the ladies talk with Frank Conway. He splits his time between the Big Apple and the Desert Cities. Although he is currently in Palm Desert, he remains busy working on fund raising events with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and talks about the mission and events the organization produces from funds raised on both The Great White Way and from Broadway shows that tour the nation. Learn more about BC/EFA’s COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund. For more information, visit http://www.broadwaycares.org (http://www.broadwaycares.org)
This week, Bobbie Eakes and Melissa Neiderman welcome a couple of very talented friends. Musician and actor Rick Springfield who has had mega-chart success with hits like Jessie's Girl, I've Done Everything For You, Don't Talk to Strangers, Affair of the Heart, and Love Somebody has a new song that he co-created as part of a COVID-19 pandemic web series - Ultimate Mini Series: The 60-Second Guide to Songwriting with a Partner - with friend and fellow musician and comic Vance DeGeneres (Ellen's brother). It's called The Wall Will Fall and it's available right now from Apple's iTunes and on Amazon. All of the songs proceeds go to support http://www.FeedingAmerica.org. Melissa and her husband (and Springfield band member) Tim Gross are among the many friends, family and musical artists who appear in the song's video. Then, a high school friend of Bobbie's, Karen Dunkley visits and talks about her story series, I See You: Stories From Behind The Doors based on her work as an intensive care nurse. You'll find Karen's writing on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/I-See-You-Stories-From-Behind-the-Doors-106716384370517 (https://www.facebook.com/I-See-You-Stories-From-Behind-the-Doors-106716384370517) It is a fun and exciting week on this edition of Pop City!
Taking part in the recognition of educators as part of National Teacher Appreciation Week, Melissa Neiderman and Bobbie Eakes and talk with Renae Madore and Tanya Marya. They also share Mother’s Day thoughts and plans on this week’s edition of Pop City on iHub Radio.
Melissa Neiderman and Bobbie Eakes are tipping the champagne and toasting the kick-off of iHub Radio's third year with the return of their popular and super-positive celebration of all that makes living in and visiting the Coachella Valley region so great. Except, now Bobbie makes it a bi-coastal affair as Melissa is in Palm Springs and Bobbie plays the desert cities ex-pat from her new home in Savannah, Georgia. Together, they talk about staying upbeat through the tough times presented by the COVID-19 crisis around the world.
On March 28, 2020, our friend and colleague John Callahan, who had suffered a massive stroke a day earlier, passed away at the age of 66. He was a bigger-than-life gentleman who touched millions of lives on television, in film, in the theatre, on iHub Radio, and through his vast and generous humanitarian work. He was a loving father who was so proud of his daughter Kaya. He remained a very good friend and co-parent with his former on-screen and off-screen spouse Eva LaRue. John's acting career spanned some four decades. On this special edition of the John Callahan Show, he is remembered by his friends Anthony Turk, Melissa Neiderman, Bobbie Eakes, Walt Willey, Julia Barr, Kate Zenna, and John McMullen. Dedicated to John's daughter Kaya Callahan. John is perhaps best known for his role of Edmund Grey on the ABC Television Network's iconic daytime drama All My Children, but his credits include dozens of film and television programs. He was also very active with the local theatre scene in the Coachella Valley and helped raise money and awareness for several charities including the American Cancer Society. We miss you very much, John. Rest In Peace, brother. Originally broadcast on April 4, 2020.
