Recorded at the famed corner booth of Skip Paige's Little Bar in Palm Desert, this episode of Big Conversations, Little Bar hosted by Patrick Evans and Randy Florence, follows a remarkable journey from church greeter to reality-TV standout. Guest Gary Levingston shares how a chance encounter at Southwest Church led to casting for the senior-edition dating franchise, the sequestered Malibu mansion experience, and the unexpected brotherhood that formed among contestants on The Golden Bachelor, and subsequently on Bachelor In Paradise. Levingston opens up about the stress of rose ceremonies (and expert-level packing), navigating sudden notoriety—including fan encounters at his doorstep—and keeping perspective thanks to lessons from his godmother, Tina Turner. Beyond TV, he's channeling his platform into purpose: mental-health advocacy as a senior advisor with Talkspace, a lighthearted fashion partnership with Tommy Bahama, and service to kids in the Coachella Valley. He also spotlights his documentary on his uncle, 1950s singer-songwriter Jesse Belvin, and dreams of a feature film—maybe with Bruno Mars in the lead. Heart, humor, faith, and community all show up big in this conversation.Takeaways:A casting director discovered him while he was greeting at church.Contestants were sequestered near the Malibu mansion—no phones, lots of bonding. The “golden” cast rooted for one another over rivalry.Rose ceremonies were nerve-racking—bags packed every time, just in case.Sudden fame felt surreal (press pings, fan rose at his door).Godmother Tina Turner taught privacy, poise, and inner strength. Now a Talkspace senior advisor, advocating mental health for older adults.Produces a Jesse Belvin documentary; hopes for a Bruno Mars-led feature.#BigConversationsLittleBarPodcast #PatrickEvans #RandyFlorence #SkipsLittleBar #MutualBroadcastingSystem #CoachellaValleyResidents #SkipPaige #GaryLevingston #GoldenBachelorette #BachelorInParadise #TinaTurner #MentalHealth #Talkspace #TommyBahama #JesseBelvin #BrunoMars #MalibuMansion #ChurchToCasting #PalmDesert #CommunityImpact

Jesus works to dismantle the hierarchies we create in society. In the Gospel reading he does this by commenting on the places of honor at a banquet. The humility Jesus emphasizes encourages a banquet table and by extension a communion table that welcomes all.Join us In-Person or Online for Worship Sundays at 9:15am and 11:15am.Find out more about upcoming events and ways to serve our community by joining our mailing list. Jesse Hughes, best known as the wild frontman of Eagles of Death Metal, is a force of charisma, chaos, and crunchy desert rock riffs. Born September 24, 1972, in Greenville, South Carolina, Hughes was raised in Palm Desert, California, where his lifelong friendship with Josh Homme (of Queens of the Stone Age) would set the stage for one of rock's most energetic duos. While Homme often drums and co-produces, Hughes is the face and voice of the band, known for his mustachioed swagger, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and unfiltered stage persona.Eagles of Death Metal formed in 1998 and released their debut album, Peace, Love, Death Metal, in 2004. It was raw, groovy, and laced with tongue-in-cheek bravado. Songs like “I Only Want You” and “Speaking in Tongues” introduced the band's hybrid of garage rock, boogie, and glam with Hughes' playful vocals front and center. Over the years, Hughes' stage name “The Devil” matched his onstage antics and preacher-like energy, combining a Southern preacher vibe with a rock showmanship.Follow-up albums like Death by Sexy (2006), Heart On (2008), and Zipper Down (2015) kept the party going, with Hughes' sound maturing but never losing its rebellious humor or rock 'n' roll heart. Despite their tongue-in-cheek image, the band survived tragedy: the 2015 Paris terrorist attack at the Bataclan Theatre during one of their concerts. Hughes emerged shaken but committed to peace and healing through music, later speaking out while continuing to tour with a defiant, loving spirit.Outside EODM, Hughes has released solo work under the name Boots Electric, notably the 2011 album Honkey Kong. It showed his flair for funk, dance rock, and unapologetic weirdness. Still, his love of music and dedication to performance remain undimmed. In the end, Jesse Hughes is a survivor, a showman, and a one-of-a-kind figure in the world of rock. Whether he's cracking jokes, busting out a fuzzed-out riff, or leading a crowd in rock 'n' roll salvation, he brings everything he's got—and then some.

Anthony Brumfield's journey of redemption will stop you in your tracks. Sitting in a drug rehabilitation center twelve years ago, this former "renegade steroid dealer" received divine inspiration that would transform both his life and the health of thousands: take his underground knowledge legitimate and build a comprehensive wellness center where people could safely access hormone therapy, weight loss solutions, and cutting-edge treatments. What began as one man and his puppy in a tiny clinic has expanded into Body Symmetry MD, a six-location wellness empire spanning from Atlanta to Boston to Palm Desert. Anthony shares the raw, unfiltered story of his rock-bottom moment and how faith guided him toward his true purpose. "God put it on my heart that he knew I liked to help people and he knew I was doing it the renegade way," Anthony explains. "He wanted me to grow along spiritual lines and help people the right way."The conversation takes a powerful turn when Anthony reveals how he's paid his success forward by creating opportunities for others with similar backgrounds. The story of Jose, a franchise owner who built a thriving practice serving Boston's Portuguese-Brazilian community during COVID lockdowns, exemplifies Anthony's philosophy of purpose-driven entrepreneurship. From a cramped 700-square-foot space, Jose built a practice generating nearly $800,000 in revenue that completely transformed his family's life. For health enthusiasts, Anthony unpacks the world of peptides – compounds that act as "messengers" in the body to trigger specific responses like reduced inflammation, enhanced healing, and visceral fat reduction. From BPC-157 (Body Protecting Compound) to custom "Sculpt blends," he simplifies these cutting-edge treatments that are revolutionizing wellness. His parting wisdom for those struggling with health? "Start slow, just do something... start eliminating something bad and put something good in."Connect with Anthony through Body Symmetry MD's website or find him on Facebook to learn how you might transform your health or even join his mission as a licensee partner.Welcome to the ATLG podcast I am your host Ken Joslin, former pastor turned coach & host of CREATE, the #1 Faith-based Entrepreneur conference in America. John's wife remains convinced she's clairvoyant. A great Spring Break in Palm Desert has John contemplating why men like playing catch in swimming pools, and how to properly put on cologne.
One of my favorite places in the world is the Coachella Valley. Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells. The valley is thriving as new residents move in, the are is mountainous and arid desert blended in an oasis of mixed architectural styles blended with cultural influence from music to fashion and everything in between. I love the Coachella Valley because as a teenager, I would go to Palm Springs for spring break. Something then mayor, Sonny Bono did not care fore and eventually drove us out. Then it was the architecture, followed by Coachella Music Festival combined with Stagecoach. La Quinta Resort remains my personal favorite place to recharge and reflect. Send us a textIn this episode we journey to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert to have a conversation with two young Catholics on fire with the faith. Genevieve Knight is a 28 year old cradle Catholic born and raised in Rancho Mirage, CA. Though she came from a Catholic background, it was not until the age of 21, while in her third year of college, she experienced a ‘simple, yet deeply profound' encounter with Christ which changed the trajectory of her spiritual life forever. Genevieve shares her story with This Connected not only as a young adult on fire for the Truth, beauty, and goodness of the Catholic faith, but as one who seeks to be a witness to every person searching for the story God is constantly writing upon his and her heart.Brian Ruberg is a 22-year old adult convert to Catholicism. Born on Rowlett, Texas and raised in La Quinta, California, Brian was brought up as a Non-denominational Protestant Christian but saw little value in his religion despite never abandoning it. After a search for meaning and purpose through various outlets such as philosophy and the straight-edge punk movement, he became involved in the online political scene where he met many like-minded young men, many of whom were Catholic. Already experiencing gradual growth in Christ, he became curious and fascinated with the Church and its reverence and tradition, attending his first mass in Latin. Over the next three years, he began to grow in the faith and fall in love with the sacraments, eventually becoming fully initiated into the Catholic faith on December 21st, 2024. Brian now works with his parish's Young Adults Fellowship and maintains many friendships within the Church community and continues to grow and help other incoming Catholics grow their faith.Remember to like, subscribe, and recommend to a friend. Listen in as host David Mandell welcomes orthopedic surgeon Dr. Patrick St. Pierre. Pat begins by sharing his background in the military, where he served in the infantry and as an airborne ranger pathfinder and eventually transitioned to medical school and a path in orthopedics. He then tells David about his decisions around the first job he took outside of the military on the east coast and his eventual move to Palm Desert, CA to a growing orthopedic practice there. The conversation then shifts to Pat's involvement with industry, including work on a Mako orthopedic robot for shoulder surgeries. He comments on the importance of physicians working with industry and gives advice to those thinking about doing so. David and Pat then discuss Pat's plan for retirement, which he has given a lot of thought to over the last decade after seeing colleagues struggle with life post-medical career. Pat is passionate about retiring TO something, not just FROM medicine.
