Then they watched The G where Dale Dickey had them mesmerized. Next up was the Bio-pic Maria which sees Angelina Jolie at her best. In the Mesmerized Off this week we were hoping for Tom Hardy vs. Olivia Coleman in the film Locke but it turns out that Olivia is never seen in the entire film. Finally Bryce was forced to watch Bachelorette in the Rage or Dare segment. Does Bryce think it is as bad as Jim hopes or is it another meh from Jim's Rage Bag. On the Saturday November 23, 2024 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we'll meet Dale Dickey. You know her as a formidable character actor, known for her Independent Spirit Award winning performance in “Winter's Bone,” and appearances in more than 60 movies, like Iron Man 3 and Hell or High Water, and television shows like My Name Is Earl, Breaking Bad and True Blood. Her latest film is the dark thriller “The G.” In the movie, she plays a grandmother looking for vengeance with the help of her granddaughter Emma (Denis), who calls her "The G," after a corrupt legal guardian puts her in a care home in order to take her property. Then, we'll hear the remarkable story of Sash Simpson. These days Sash is the owner/operator and Chef of Sash, a beautiful, fine dining restaurant featuring his distinctive, signature blend of globally inspired, locally-sourced ingredients. He's also the subject of a new documentary, now on Crave, called “Born Hungry.” In the film, director Barry Avrich tells Sash's triumphant and challenging story from a five year old orphan on the streets of Chennai, India, to establishing himself as one of Toronto's top celebrated chefs.

This week, we return to the fuzzy, high-contrast world of Tony Scott, as the late great Scott brother cranks his signature style to the max in service of a bored rich girl becoming a bounty hunter. It's 2005's Domino, directed by Tony Scott, written by Richard Kelly, and starring Keira Knightley, Mickey Rourke, Edgar Ramirez, Delroy Lindo, Mo'Nique, Dabney Coleman, Dale Dickey, Lucy Liu and Christopher Walken. It's seemingly a staple of hot couch culture, and dropped in the middle of a very interesting run in Scott's career, but its failure may have scared him into only making movies with Denzel for the rest of his life. And that's fine. Plus, it was a busy week at the theatre as we've got field reports on Challengers, Abigail and (gasp) The Mummy (1999). Other works referenced in this episode include Beverly Hills Cop 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Mummy (2017), Uncharted, Rebel Moon - Part 2: The Scargiver, Atomic Blonde, A Knight's Tale, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Monkey Man, Alien, Casper, Jurassic Park, Dune: Part 2, The Social Network, Ready or Not, Scream V & VI, The Guest, Barbarian, Malignant, Annihilation, Men, Freaky, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, LOST, 3:10 to Yuma (2007), Smokin' Aces, Exposed, The Night of the Hunter, Stop Making Sense, The Beekeeper, Unstoppable, Deja Vu, Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 123, Southland Tales, Training Day, Spider-Man, The Wrestler, Ocean's 13, Final Destination 3, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Crimes of the Future, The Fly, SpikeTV's Blade: The Series, and The Royal Tenenbaums. We'll be back next week, as we gear up for the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes theatrical release by finally watching the capper of franchise's Caesar trilogy -- Matt Reeves' 2017 War for the Planet of the Apes, which just like the entire Apes franchise is currently available to stream on Disney+. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
I have been fortunate to interview Del Shores (Sordid Lives Creator) multiple times throughout the years. After working in the entertainment industry for more than three decades as a Director, Producer, and Writer, Del is finally making his NYC theatrical directorial debut with Jiggs Burgess' play Wounded.I am so excited to catch up with Del because I always have great conversations with him. In this NEW interview, Del is Baring It All with Call Me Adam about:Making his NYC theatrical directorial debutOne thing he hasn't done because something or someone got in the wayOne path his life took that he would like to put on full displayWorking with Whoopi Goldberg & Caroline RheaAn update on the Sordid Lives FranchiseSo much moreWounded, by Jiggs Burgess, is about a repressed nobody who thinks of himself as somebody. An addict. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? played out between hummingbirds. And a pussy eating dog. This is Wounded. Carrol could've been somebody, after all his book, The Crimson Valise, was made into a movie. Yet somehow Carrol's unhealed past, and an aging mother, got in the way. On the other hand, Carrol's classmate, Robert, was smart and driven. Went to one of the best private universities in the country on scholarship. But his damage led him down the path of addiction and eventually prison. In this darkest of comedies, the bleak paths our lives can lead us down are on full display. ***Warning: Recommended for adult audiences. In this Film Ireland podcast, Gemma Creagh talks to Dónal Foreman about his genre-defying blend of psychodrama and fantasy, The Cry of Granuaile. The Cry of Granuaile is a genre-defying blend of psychodrama and fantasy from Dónal Foreman, award winning director of the The Image You Missed (the IFTA-nominated documentary named by the Irish Times as one of the 50 best Irish films ever made.) There are eight movies to talk about this week and Erik Cihldress and Steve Prokopy have seen them all. There is love for two films from this year's Chicago Critics Film Festival including Patton Oswalt catfishing his own son (I Love My Dad) and Dale Dickey looking to kindle an old friendship with Wes Studi (A Love Song). There is a new animated film on Apple+ (Luck) and a documentary about the Father of Claymation (Claydream). Ron Howard turns a story that got the doc treatment last year about the Thailand cave rescue into a feature (Thirteen Lives) and stand-up comic Jo Koy stars in a film based on his life (Easter Sunday). The Predator franchise springs to new life in the 18th century (Prey) and Brad Pitt takes on a locomotive full of assassins (Bullet Train). There's a lot of love this week but there are some targets as well. 0:00 - Intro 1:03 - I Love My Dad 16:49 – Claydream 32:38 – A Love Song 42:34 – Luck 57:44 – Thirteen Lives 1:15:38 – Easter Sunday 1:34:43 - Prey 1:50:47 – Bullet Train 2:06:26 - Outro
"A Love Song" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and played again at the Berlin and Tribeca Film Festivals. It received near-universal praise for its subdued but beautiful direction, writing, and performances from Dale Dickey and Wes Studi. Director and writer Max Walker-Silverman was kind enough to discuss his feature directorial debut with us, where he went into detail on the challenges of making his first film, working with two screen-acting experts, how the Colorado Mountains setting played an essential role in the story and more. Please take a few minutes to listen to the conversation below and be sure to check out the film now playing in limited release from Bleecker Street. Thank you, and enjoy! Yes, you read that right! The one and only Wes Studi joins us to talk about his new film, A Love Song, which he stars in with Dale Dickey. While we had Mr. Studi on hand to speak with us, we also made sure to inquire about this week's Overdue Rental, the 1992 instant classic; The Last of the Mohicans. The film will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this September, so what better time to dive into the film with one of its stars. It is felt all around the world, from grocery baskets to pumps at gas stations, from electric bills to clothing: inflation like rarely seen before. Amid a collision of crises, from the war in Ukraine to a slowdown of the Chinese economy, the ripple effects are being felt keenly in the United States, where the Bureau of Economic Analysis just announced the economy has shrunk again for the second quarter in a row. In a rare treat, two unmistakable character actors join the pod: Wes Studi and Dale Dickey. If you don't know their names, you certainly know their indelible faces from movies like "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Winter's Bone." They star together in the tender, dusty new romance film, "A Love Song." Studi and Dickey tell Chance all about finally getting to kiss anyone on screen, plus plenty of talk about acting bucket lists, "Reservation Dogs" and improv battles with Jennifer Lawrence.
Character-acting icons Wes Studi ("The Last of the Mohicans") and Dale Dickey ("Winter's Bone") join Chance to talk about an on-screen opportunity they've never had before despite their combined 250 screen credits: playing soft-spoken, vulnerable romantic leads. Director Max Walker-Silverman's "A Love Song" makes the most of both actors' skills with weathered naturalism, but Studi and Dickey also have plenty to say about their storied careers, how people talk about their unmistakable faces, and their upcoming TV projects like "Reservation Dogs" (S2) and "A League of Their Own." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/support

This week's @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ gives you news on the upcoming 'Final Girls Berlin Film Festival'. PLUS, two films. First feature has hit Prime Video and Vertigo Releasing brings their new feature to theatres and digital! 'TiMER' is written by, and the feature directorial debut from Jac Schaeffer. What if a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate? In this alternate version of present day Los Angeles, a revolutionary device called the TiMER fulfills this fantasy. For a reasonable installation fee and moderate monthly charges, a TiMER implanted in the wrist will accurately display the numbers of days, hours, minutes and seconds until the wearers date with destiny. 'Flag Day' is directed by Sean Penn, written by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, and is an adaptation of Jennifer Vogel's memoir 'Flim-Flam Man: A True Family History'. Jennifer Vogel's (Dylan Penn) father John (Sean Penn) was larger than life. As a child, Jennifer marveled at his magnetizing energy and ability to make life feel like a grand adventure. He taught her so much about love and joy, but he also happened to be one of the most notorious counterfeiter in US history. From growing up on stage in the deep south to “falling between the cracks” of Hollywood types, Dale Dickey worked odd jobs for decades before coming into her own as one of film and television's most beloved supporting actresses—a label she embraces as her “calling card”. We delve into her roles in WINTER'S BONE and HELL OR HIGH WATER, plus the Netflix series Unbelievable and AMC's Breaking Bad, and Dale's take on new standards, from self-taped auditions to beauty on screen: “We'll always have the work and the glamour, but the stories are changing.”
Hi, everyone! Buckle up because we have a lot of movies this week. Megan and Dave run through Sundance and just about every movie they saw. (Evan is off this week and will return next week.) Finally, Dave gives short reviews of CHA CHA REAL SMOOTH (59:30), starring Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson; ALICE (1:01:24), starring Keke Palmer; SUMMERING (1:03:48), starring Lake Bell, Sarah Cooper and Megan Mullally; and WHEN YOU FINISH SAVING THE WORLD (1:05:15), starring Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard. There are more Sundance movies on the Patreon this week and we'll cover the January poll winner in the next episode.

“They’re young, they’re in love and they kill people.” Running low on cash? Need some extra pocket money? Or have you realized that banks are just an evil institution that deserve no quarter? The perfect time for Episode 24 of Pop Art, the podcast where my guest chooses a movie from popular culture and I’ll select a film from the more art/classic side of cinema with a connection to it. This time, my guest, film enthusiast, writer and blogger Kira Comerford, chose the modern day western Hell or High Water and I chose the game changing Warren Beatty/Faye Dunaway classic, Bonnie and Clyde, both films about bank robbers. And in this episode we discuss such issues as: How do you make characters who do bad things interesting or likeable to the audience; what is a Dale Dickey and would you want to be one; what is the double meaning in the title Hell or High Water; what major change did they make to Clyde Barrow’s character and why then did C.W. Moss’s character make no sense; why is Bonnie and Clyde one of the most important movies ever made; what do the three crosses signify; and many more. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/howard-casner/support

Dennis goes to the Hollywood home of playwright Del Shores to talk to Del and actress Dale Dickey about their just-opened play This Side of Crazy, which is about an egocentric gospel diva and her three estranged daughters. Del talks about the show's themes of forgiveness and reconciliation, writing for specific actors, sitting behind one of his idols Horton Foote in the theater, what it's like when one of his actors hits it big in Hollywood and having your plays published by Samuel French. Dale talks about her character of Abigail, what it's like to have a role written for you, smoking on stage, singing harmony with her co-stars, her Witchiepoo connection, getting recognized from Breaking Bad, finding her way into characters some might consider "undesirables" and performing as Shrek and Barney for kids' birthday parties before being able to act full time. Other topics include: their first meeting 17 projects ago, hanging in in such a challenging business, the overwhelming reaction their previous collaborations Southern Baptist Sissies and The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife and what it feels like after a killer show. www.delshores.com

The Netflix series Unbelievable brings together a group of actresses including Kaitlyn Dever, Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, Dale Dickey and Danielle MacDonald. It's based on a true story about a young woman named Marie who was sexually assaulted and pressured by the police into recanting her story. Based on reporting from ProPublica and the Marshall Project, the series follows Marie, but also the two detectives who, much later, gave her case a chance to be solved.
Summer kicks off with a bang this week on BEHIND THE LENS as we take a look at three winning films and speak with their gifted filmmakers who are not only good storytellers, but really good guys. And here's a bonus for you – all three films open in theatres this week on June 7! First up, take a listen to our exclusive interview with RON HOWARD talking about his new documentary, PAVAROTTI! The film is, in a word, Bellisimo! Exquisitely told and emotionally beauteous, the detail and depth with which Ron Howard tells the story of the man behind the voice is not only told with an objective eye, but a caring one. By film's end, one feels as if they know "Luciano", that they sat at the table and ate pasta with him, shared laughs. Listen as Ron talks about the research and assimilation of archival materials and the technical challenges presented with the use of old footage and recordings, gathering interviews, finding a throughline and working with his editor Paul Crowder, opting for sound mix in Dolby Atmos and the genius of sound recording mixer Chris Jenkins, not to mention selecting very specific arias for which Pavarotti is best known and then using them to highlight moments of Pavarotti's live versus the chronology of performance. Then writer/director MICHAEL MELSKI joins us live talking about his new film, THE CHILD REMAINS. Based on the true story of the "Butterbox Babies" and the surrounding legend that has permeated not only Canadian folklore, but Scottish and Irish as well, Michael crafts a chilling tale steeped in ambient cinematographic excellence. Rounding out the show, Australian actor ANDREW STEEL is with us live talking about his first North American feature, WISH MAN. You'll quickly hear why Andrew is just one more reason why we love Australia. Classically theatre trained and with a successful career in Australia primarily on stage with the Australian Shakespeare Company and in television, Andrew makes the leap to the United States with the story of Frank Shankwitz, the man who founded the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Handpicked by Shankwitz to be the man to depict him on screen, the stars seem to have perfectly aligned for Andrew who is also known for his own philanthropic endeavors, namely the international film festival Flicks4Change.org and its offshoot, Scripts4Change.org. Listen as Andrew talks about WISH MAN, his serendipitous meeting with Shankwitz and how the role came to him, developing the character through working with writer/director Theo Davies and Shankwitz, nailing a midwestern US accent and learning to ride a motorcycle, working with veteran actors Fay Masterson, Danny Trejo, Frank Whalley, Kirby Bliss Stanton, Carey Scott, Dale Dickey, Bruce Davison and, in the coolest cameos possible, Robert Pine and Larry Wilcox, and more. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
Debra was a Boston independent filmmaker before she picked up and left for NYU’s graduate film program. Her first short film there, “Snake Feed,” was accepted into the Sundance Labs, where she developed the concept into her first narrative feature, Down to the Bone, starring Vera Fermiga. From there, Debra and her creative partner Anne Rossellini developed a film based on Daniel Woodrell’s 2006 novel, Winter's Bone. The film was released in 2010 and tells the story of a girl who’s the sole caretaker of her family who must hunt down her missing father to avoid being kicked out of her house and losing everything. The girl was played by Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence was nominated for an Academy Award, as was Debra’s film and screenplay. In 2018, she directed Leave No Trace, a story about a father with PTSD trying to raise his teen daughter off the grid when some well-meaning people intervene and change the course of their lives. Starring Ben Foster and newcomer Thomasin Mckenzie Harcourt, Leave No Trace has been on multiple Top Ten lists, and won Debra the Best Director award at the 2019 LAFCA awards ceremony. The film that Debra has chosen to discuss is Samuel Fuller's classic noir, Pickup on South Street. This is a personal favorite of Debra's and it becomes clear with how much appreciation and thought she has for the film. Debra discusses how she is able to create realistic dialogue for people who aren't from her "bougie, liberal" world. She talks about working with actress Dale Dickey, and why people love watching her on screen. Debra also elaborates on the use of guns in cinema, how we rely on them to tell stories, and how she is trying to "restore meaning to the woundable body." You can watch Leave No Trace on Amazon Prime. If you haven't seen it yet, go watch Pickup on South Street. With April Wolfe and Debra Granik. Dale Dickey is another of those valuable character actresses who makes every film and TV show better—like Leave No Trace, which reunited her with director Debra Granik, who cast her so memorably in Winter’s Bone opposite Jennifer Lawrence. You’ve seen her in Hell or High Water, Breaking Bad, True Blood, I Am the Night—any film or TV show that needs someone unquestionably real. Leonard and Jessie are fans and enjoyed getting to know Dale, who left Tennessee to make her way in show business. Her memory of meeting Jack Nicholson for the first time on the set of The Pledge is just one highlight.
In episode forty-one of movies imo., Ben, Brandon, and Daniel yell over each other about LEAVE NO TRACE, Debra Granik's long-awaited return to feature filmmaking/the woods. Afterwards they climb up the family tree to discuss three more daddy-daughter stories in Peter Bogdanovich's PAPER MOON, Benh Zeitlan's BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, and Maren Ade's TONI ERDMANN. Ben has little to say about the Granik but plenty of love for the way screenwriter Lucy Alibar weaves Hushpuppy's childlike perspective into very adult situations throughout BEASTS, Daniel has trouble remembering the name of Dale Dickey's character in WINTER'S BONE, and Brandon solves the lingering mystery of whatever happened to Woman Driver from LEAN ON PETE. Two movies are reviewed; ‘Leave No Trace’ (Ben Foster, Thomasin McKenzie, Dale Dickey) and the Neon produced documentary ‘Three Identical Strangers’ plus a brief mention of 'Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist' - the 4-part true crime documentary streaming on Netflix. Also, a very special phone call, somebody didn’t see a movie, bad theater experiences, underage concerts, Howard Jones, and someone loses their Italian card. If you like pesto, this is the show for you. We riff on Madonna, and 'GLOW’ is back on Netflix, so we're happy(er).

An encounter with a bear cub results in serious injuries to both David and Cal. After futile attempts to hike out together, David resolves to carry his father on his back to safety while simultaneously healing his broken spirit. "Walking Out" is an intimate epic, a relentlessly primal, fiercely rawboned tale of connection, survival and the true path to manhood. The Transfiguration An official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, writer/director Michael O’Shea’s debut feature “The Transfiguration” follows troubled teen Milo who hides behind his fascination with vampire lore. When he meets the equally alienated Sophie, the two form a bond that begins to challenge Milo’s dark obsession, blurring his fantasy into reality. A chilling portrait of violence, “The Transfiguration” is an atmospheric thriller set against the grit of New York City. This Is Your Death Today’s audience has become infatuated with watching others degrade themselves on national television. They crave a wild argument, a bloody fight, or a publicized scandal. It has become the ultimate source of entertainment. But when the boundaries seem like they can’t be pushed any further, game-show host Adam Rogers steps in to break down the wall by hosting a new game show where contestants end their lives for a chance to win money. Adam will only be satisfied if his reality show is number one in the ratings, and he’ll stop at nothing to make sure he gets there, even if it means letting go of his humanity. Small Town Crime Ex-cop Mike Kendall (John Hawkes) discovers the body of a young woman and, in an act of self-redemption, becomes hellbent on finding the killer. Hounds of Love In suburban Perth during the mid 1980s, people are unaware that women are disappearing at the hands of serial killers John and Evelyn White. After an innocent lapse in judgment, Vicki Maloney is randomly abducted by the disturbed couple. With her murder imminent, Vicki realizes she must find a way to drive a wedge between Evelyn and John if she is to survive. Hounds of Love is an exercise in expertly-crafted tension, offering a bold, challenging debut from writer/director Ben Young. Prevenge A pitch black, wryly British comedy from the mind of Alice Lowe, "Prevenge" follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree that’s as funny as it is vicious. It's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. Struggling with her conscience, loneliness, and a strange strain of prepartum madness, Ruth must ultimately choose between redemption and destruction at the moment of motherhood. "Prevenge" marks the directorial debut from Lowe, who is a triple threat, writing, directing, and acting in the film during her own pregnancy. Goran Goran lives a simple life surrounded by his friends and family in the snow-covered Croatian highlands. This carefree existence is put to an end when his wife announces she is expecting a child. Whereas they have every reason to celebrate, the good news will unleash the fiery personalities of the highlanders, leading to a darkly comic twist of events. The white winter will soon turn red. Colossal Gloria is an out-of-work party girl who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. Dara Ju Seyi, a 24-year-old Nigerian-American, works on Wall Street. Most Beautiful Island "Most Beautiful Island" is a psychological thriller examining the plight of undocumented female immigrants hoping to make a life in New York. As Luciana's day unfolds, she is whisked, physically and emotionally, through a series of troublesome, unforeseeable extremes. Before her day is done, she inadvertently finds herself a central participant in a cruel game. Lives are placed at risk, while psyches are twisted and broken for the perverse entertainment of a privileged few. The Ballad of Lefty Brown Lefty Brown is a 63 year old sidekick. But when a rustler kills Johnson, Lefty is forced from his partner’s shadow. Devastated by guilt, he sets out on a journey that will reunite him with old friends US Marshall Tom Harrah and Governor James Bierce as he confronts the ugly realities of frontier justice. Us and Them With it’s raw energy and stream of consciousness plot, "Us and Them" is a backlash against the drone of British period dramas. Danny is an ordinary working class kid who is tired of the rough deal he faces. His plan? To start a revolution by streaming attacks against the one percent on the web. His goal? To terrify the elite into bringing about change. Writer/director Joe Martin taps into his blue collar roots to capture the zeitgeist of outsider politics that have gripped the western world. In "Us and Them" he lays bare the inequality and anger that wrong footed the media and led to the shock events of Brexit and Trump’s victory. Atomic Blonde The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies. Baby Driver A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. Free Fire Bold, breathless and wickedly fun, "Free Fire" is an electrifying action comedy about an arms deal that goes spectacularly and explosively wrong. Acclaimed filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise) propels the audience head-on into quite possibly the most epic shootout ever seen on film as he crafts a spectacular parody –– and biting critique –– of the insanity of gun violence. Everyone’s got a gun, and absolutely no one is in control. Packed with witty one-liners, flamboyant characters and remarkable feats of cinematic gunplay, Free Fire is a full-throttle action extravaganza that keeps things fresh and fun with Wheatley’s alternately buoyant and savage sense of humor.

Photo credit: Steven K. Johnson. Palm Springs, Calif. – Award-winning writer/director Del Shores (“Blues For Willadean,” “Southern Baptist Sissies,” “Queer A Folk”) releases his latest film, A Very Sordid Wedding, the outrageously funny sequel to his play, movie and TV series Sordid Lives. The film brings back an all-star ensemble cast of characters, rooted in the Southern Baptist world of Winters, Texas, in the weeks following the U.S. Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage equality ruling where not everyone there is ready to accept it. On March 10, 2017, the film will make its World Premiere and have an exclusive two-week theatrical release at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, where the original film ran for 96 weeks. It will be followed by a national limited theatrical run by The Film Collaborative, expanding to Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and other cities and dates to be announced. For ticket information and further updates on the film’s theatrical release, visit http://www.averysordidwedding.com/. The ensemble cast of 32 actors is led by Bonnie Bedelia (“Parenthood”), Caroline Rhea (“Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”), Dale Dickey (Independent Spirit Award winner “Winter’s Bone”), Leslie Jordan (Emmy winner “Will & Grace”) with cast members from the original Sordid Lives film Newell Alexander (“August: Osage County”), Rosemary Alexander, Kirk Geiger, Sarah Hunley, Lorna Scott (“Wanted”) and Ann Walker. New additions to the Sordid Lives world include Emerson Collins (“The People’s Couch”), Levi Kreis (Tony winner “MillionDollar Quartet”), Carole Cook (“Sixteen Candles”), Alec Mapa (“Ugly Betty”), Aleks Paunovic (“Van Helsing”), Katherine Bailess (“Hit The Floor”) and a cameo from Whoopi Goldberg. Sordid Lives, Del Shores’ fourth play, opened in Los Angeles in 1996, and ran for 13 sold-out months. It received 13 “Critic’s Choice” honors and 14 Drama-Logue Theatre Awards. In 1999, Shores wrote and directed the film adaption of Sordid Lives starring Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia, Leslie Jordan and Beth Grant, along with most of the cast from the play. The movie became a cult phenomenon taking in nearly $2 million in its eighttheatre limited release. The movie won six Best Feature and 13 Audience Awards at film festivals. In 2002, Twentieth Century Fox released the DVD/Video, which has now sold over 300,000 units. The film was re-released by Wolfe Video in 2014. Sordid Lives: The Series, a 12episode TV series prequel to the Sordid Lives film, premiered on MTV’s LOGO network in 2008. “Not a day goes by where someone doesn’t write me asking me for more Sordid Lives. So many of my LGBTQ fans, of all ages, have come out to their folks by showing them Sordid Lives because the humor helped them share their own story,” explains writer, director and producer Del Shores. “I am excited to bring my characters up to July 2015 where they are hit with the reality of Texas having full equality. I wanted to contrast affirming churches and organizations like Faith In America with the hypocritical bigotry that is still being spewed from pulpits represented by the ‘Anti-Equality Rally’ in the film.” “With the victory of marriage equality and the resulting backlash disguised as ‘religious freedom’ bills, our film exploring the impact of religious bigotry couldn’t come at a more timely moment in our history,” continues producer and star Emerson Collins. “Hard-fought LGBTQ rights won over the past eight years now hang in the balance with the new presidential administration and conservative state legislatures across the country preparing to target the LGBTQ community.” As the original film dealt with coming out in a conservative Southern world, A Very Sordid Wedding explores the questions, bigotry and the fallout of what happens when gay marriage comes to communities and families that are not quite ready to accept it. Bigoted “religious freedom,” marriage equality and cultural acceptance are all explored with Del Shores’ trademark approach to using comedy and his much beloved Sordid Lives characters to deal with these important current social issues and the very real process of accepting your family for who they are instead of who you want them to be. Synopsis: A VERY SORDID WEDDING It’s 2015, seventeen years after Peggy tripped over G.W.’s wooden legs and died in Sordid Lives, and life has moved into the present for the residents of Winters, Texas. Sissy Hickey (Dale Dickey) is reading the Bible, cover to cover, trying to make some kind of sense out of what it really says about gay people. Her niece Latrelle Williamson (Bonnie Bedelia) has divorced her husband Wilson (Michael MacRae) who has taken up with a hot young gold digger. Latrelle’s now out and proud gay son Ty (Kirk Geiger) is on his way back to town with his black man and news of their own. Her sister LaVonda (Ann Walker) is still cussin’ and drankin’ and is being blackmailed to sit with the sick and afflicted. LaVonda’s best friend Noleta (Caroline Rhea) meets a hot younger man while visiting her awful mama in the hospital. G.W. (David Steen), sporting new fiberglass legs after Noleta burned his old ones, is still feeling guilty and mourning Peggy. Nearly incoherent barfly Juanita (Sarah Hunley) has moved from her obsession with Vacation Bible School roosters to the royal family while Wardell (Newell Alexander) and Odell (David Cowgill) still bicker at the bar. Tammy Wynette champion Brother Boy (Leslie Jordan) hasn’t been back to Winters since Peggy’s funeral, and he’s working at a tragic little gay bar in Longview, having added Loretta and Dolly to his new medley act “We Three Queens of Oper-y Are” till a chance meeting with a dangerous criminal forces him out on the run. As the sordid saga continues, an anniversary memorial service is being planned in honor of Peggy at Bubba’s Bar while the Southside Baptist Church is planning an “Anti-Equality Rally” to protest the advancement of same-sex marriage, spearheaded by Vera Lisso (Lorna Scott) and Mrs. Barnes (Sharon Garrison). Both events are to take place on the same night, so the cast of colorful characters are all on a collision course for shenanigans and fireworks, and a surprise wedding!
