A civil rights lawsuit is costing the KCPD and the city's Board of Police Commissioners $4.1 million. An attorney for the family of Cameron Lamb, who was killed by a white detective in 2019, said they're happy to have the "political football" of the case behind them.
Despite hinting that it could happen, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson won't say for sure whether he will pardon or commute the sentence of Eric DeValkenaere, the former KCPD officer serving six years in prison for killing Cameron Lamb. Parson spoke to KCUR's Up To Date about his tenure before leaving office on Jan. 13.
Former Kansas City Police Department detective Eric DeValkenaere, who was convicted of killing Cameron Lamb, has asked for clemency from Missouri Gov. Mike Parson — who says he's considering his options. Parson also spoke to KCUR's Up To Date about the possibility of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals moving to Kansas.

White Missouri officer convicted in Black man's 2019 death. A judge on Friday convicted a white Kansas City police officer of involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the fatal shooting of a Black man, in a case in which prosecutors said police planted evidence. Jackson County Judge Dale Youngs issued the bench ruling against Officer Eric DeValkenaere in the death of Cameron Lamb, 26. Lamb was shot while backing into his garage on Dec. 3, 2019, after chasing his girlfriend's convertible in a stolen pickup truck. Youngs called it a tragic case with troubling facts and said DeValkenaere and the officer with him escalated a situation that had been calmed. After the verdict, police escorted DeValkenaere and his family from the building. An officer said they wouldn't be commenting. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/Teddy-G/support
