According to Missouri lawmaker Mike Jones, KC Mayor Quinton Lucas has $500 million in the Port KC slush fund that he's offering the Royals to build a ball park in KCMO. Jones says this should require a vote... but that isn't how this game is played. There was no vote in Kansas. Give Q credit for finding a way, even if it feels wrong. And if this number is true, the Missouri offer could actually top the Kansas offer. In Kansas, the Senate Democrats Chief of Staff has told people in his circle the Royals to Overland Park is a "done deal," but the announcement has to wait. Information obtained by KKHI shows that Cory Sheedy believes the city of Overland Park and T-Mobile are delaying the inevitable move. This would all make sense as the mortgage holder of the land has told T-Mobile they will not be renewing the lease when it expires. The Royals and OP, at all cost, must not allow 5000 T-Mobile jobs leave KC and relocate to Bellevue, Washington. This is tricky, Tom Homan is on the ground in Minneapolis and set to meet with the Mayor to calm down the insanity in that city. Andy Reid basically fired Matt Nagy and now he's lobbying to get him hired because Nagy is a "gem." The Royals sign a deal with Circa Sports Book for premium experiences with the team and at Kauffman Stadium. We have some tasty Super Bowl nuggets for you, a moment of silence at a hockey game goes wrong and the daredevil climber on Netflix last weekend got ripped off.
Heather Hall, a member of the Board of Police Commissioners in Kansas City, joins the show to discuss a pressing issue affecting her role. She's waiting for a crucial signature from Senator Maggie Nurnberg to move forward with her confirmation process. Heather explains the importance of her position and how it impacts the community, particularly with the upcoming World Cup in Kansas City. She shares her concerns about being pulled from the board and the potential consequences for the police department. Heather asks listeners to reach out to Senator Nurnberg to encourage her to sign the document, emphasizing the need for a fully stocked and effective police board.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas joins the show to discuss the city's efforts to keep the Royals in Kansas City. He shares his thoughts on the recent trip to Jeff City, where he met with Governor Mike Parson and other state leaders to discuss the deal. Mayor Lucas talks about the importance of bipartisanship and the need for creative approaches to keep the Royals in the city. He also addresses concerns about the potential I.C.E. detention facility and the city's preparedness for the upcoming snowstorm.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

VULPES BASTILLE is an artist-run space in Kansas City's East Crossroads that houses twelve studios and hosts monthly exhibitions selected through an open call. Located in a 100-year-old renovated dancehall, Vulpes Bastille offers an expansive platform for the community to create and display work, with an emphasis on experimental projects, emerging voices, and students. Vulpes Bastille has remained a fortress for Kansas City's creative community since 2012. This month, Vulpes Bastille proudly presents two new exhibitions Please Don't Touch the Art and At Least You Can't Be Sad If There Are Balloons. Please Don't Touch the Art, featuring more than 50 staff members of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art organized by Nora Snyder. Please Don't Touch the Art is a group exhibition featuring more than fifty employees of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. From security guards and custodians to administrative assistants and art handlers, the staff of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art keeps the museum running smoothly for the benefit of the people of Kansas City. But what the public doesn't get to see is that members of the museum staff often harbor artistic talents of their own. Naturally, the museum draws a community of caretakers who love art and devote their lives to it in more than one sense. Organized by artist and museum employee Nora Snyder, Please Don't Touch the Art showcases the diverse and extraordinary talents of the NAMA staff. Currently on view Closing Reception: Monday, December 22, 6 - 9 pm At Least You Can't Be Sad If There Are Balloons, a solo exhibition of 17 self-portrait paintings by Corey Green. In my work, I use balloons as a powerful symbol of the pressure and trials that have shaped my life—experiences that have stretched me to my limits and at times, deflated me. Balloons, filled with air, reflect moments of tension and build-up, but they also speak to the inevitable deflation that follows. For me, the image of a balloon is both a metaphor for resilience and vulnerability: the pressure of life pushing me to expand, only to be followed by the emptiness and raw exposure that comes when that pressure subsides or bursts. My work is an invitation to reflect on these moments of transformation—how pressure, release, and deflation are not signs of weakness, but steps in a continual process of transformation and survival. Currently on view Closing Reception: Wednesday, December 17, 6:30 - 8:30 pm (on view until Monday, December 22) Both shows will be on view through December 22, with gallery hours from Sundays 1-4 pm. You can also email us to schedule an appointment. On Wednesday, December 17 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm, we invite you to Corey Green's half-birthday party and the closing reception for At least you can't be sad if there are balloons. The artists will host a closing reception for Please Don't Touch the Art on Monday, December 22 from 6-9 pm. Also this month, on Saturday, December 13 from 7-8 pm, we're co-hosting a Poetry Reading with Bear Review featuring Clayton Adam Clark and Ruth Williams. Vulpes Bastille is located at 1737 Locust St. KCMO www.vulpesbastille.com Gallery Hours: First Fridays 6-9 PM Sundays 1-4 PM By Appointment

Mikey Wheeler is a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a musician, and a tattoo artist. He's also my guest for Episode No. 181.Every now and again I wax emotional about what a good human with whom I've had the privilege of sitting on the other side of the table of, and when I do so it is 100 percent not in an effort to speak any less of the other fine folks that've been kind enough to join me.We've all got a story or stories. We've all rowed the channels of life in one form or other.Being that this show is what this show is, though, it's difficult to manage my time wisely enough to get folks to sit in the chair opposite mine. And it's a whole other cart of magic beans to land someone that's as sharp, articulate, benevolent, and wise as the likes of a Mikey Wheeler.I said this while we were rolling, and I don't want to ruin anything by repeating any thing that doesn't warrant it, but this one's an exception: Shouts out to Mikey's mom, Debra, his siblings and his grandma and his uncle. Shouts out to the friends and bandmates Mikey's made along the way. Shouts out to his wife and all his work homeys, too. This is a conversationalist, and were I of the means to launch a podcast network, I'd try to get Mikey to be a part of that content with some consistency.Mikey earns his living inking humans and he does so down at Windhorse Tattoo. The joint's visible online at windhorserising.com, and you can roll your IRL bones in there at 901 E. 31st Street in downtown KCMO. Give them a buzz at 816-283-0500, and toss 'em a follow on the old IG at @windhorsetattoo. At this very moment, I can't personally speak to the fruits of Mikey's labor, but he's got a handful of repeat customers, is perpetually acquiring new, and -- per our conversation -- he's booked out six to eight months. So if you've ever been on the fence and one of your hesitations has been because you don't know who to go to in Kansas City, pick up the phone and call Windhorse; I suspect they can set you straight.Anyway...Mikey and I talked about the wild life experience of growing up in a way that didn't necessarily look like that of those around you but winding up grateful for the very manner in which it happened, regardless. We talked hoops, tatts, Steely Dan, Slint, Mike Patton projects, the glorious benefit of attending absolutely dynamite shows where everyone present is just jazzed to the gills about being there. We talked about the idea of there being two kinds of people -- those who care about humanity + everyone else -- on this planet. We man-crushed over Daniel Day-Lewis like a couple of goobers, and we talked about being in bands and making music. It was awesome.Follow the dude on Instagram at @mikeywheelertattooer, and stay tuned for the entirety of our chat; I don't typically edit much out, anyway, but this one clicked the whole way through. It'll be worth your time.copyright disclaimer: I don't own the rights to the audio clips contained within these episodes. In this one particularly, I lifted snippets from a tune called, "Theme from the Bottom." I'm not doing anything non-Fair Use here, though, YouTube, so please stop blocking me from receiving the monetary sums I'm not yet qualified to earn.Thank you.
Eric Martens is a son, a sibling, a husband, a father, and the owner of Border Brewing Co.He's also my guest for Episode No. 180.Eric was kind enough to carve out a small slice of his Tuesday evening a week or so ago to come spend it with me. And for that I am grateful.Border Brewing Co. is located in the proverbial heart of downtown KCMO at 512 E. 18th Street, and you can give them a holler at 816-469-5287 or find their stuff online at borderbrewco.com.Eric and I talked growing up, education, musicianship, leap taking, and the brick-and-mortar challenges that face a business owner in the 2020s. We also talked a little bit about a few of Eric's favorite albums, which were these:Kind of Blue (1959), Miles DavisDave Matthews & Tim Reynolds' Live at Luther College (1999)Hot Fuss (2004), The KillersThe MGDs' Wake Up (2016)Border Brewing Co. has channels on the social-media outlets on the Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter platforms, so if you were to give them a follow, I'd be much obliged. Many thanks to Eric for the time and the fantastic conversation, and a tip of the ol' fedora to all of you that support the program.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode. They are clips from a Kurt Vile tune called, "Wheelhouse," which I snipped from his B'lieve I'm Goin Down record from 2015, c/o Matador Records.
As we get ready to celebrate five years of www.kkhasissues.com, I decided to do something Tuesday we have never, ever done before. I recorded a patron podcast with incredible, detailed information that may shock you about what the Royals and Chiefs have decided for new stadium sites and/or renovations. It's not sourced enough to do on the public podcast or radio but its the kind of information I have shared with friends and family for 40 years. I'll explain it all and tell you how you can hear it. Then we lighten up as a 10 year old relative of mine, one of my mom's great grandchildren, starts a The Pigskin Kidcast on Podbean and You Tube. I'll play a clip... you will love it. That struggling Sunfresh market that communists love is officially closed after the city has wasted $29 million to make in work in KCMO. Not a surprise. Vinnie has a 5 rbi night and the Royals win again... is this the start of a special homestand and a run to the playoffs? We have the deets on what it will take. The Chiefs have their last practice in St. Joe Wednesday. We'll go over what they are working on, tell you about a player with an awesome wife that cooked for her hubby at 3:00 am so he could have his favorite breakfast dish when he got home from Arizona last week and Dave Portnoy blasts the Chiefs as "cooked." Also, a quarterback does a Joe Biden impression, an MLB team runs out of fireworks and the Tonight Show is pivoting for good reason.
