Take 2: Utah's Legislature with Heidi Hatch, Greg Hughes and Jim Dabakis
Former Utah Gov. Gary Herbert joined former CIA Director and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday at the Crossroads of the World International Trade Summit. The two shared a wide-ranging discussion on trade, immigration, and global power dynamics. The invite-only event, sponsored by Zions Bank and World Trade Center Utah, focused heavily on international trade and ongoing tariff negotiations with the Trump White House. Leaders from around the globe gathered in Salt Lake City to explore Utah's growing influence on the international stage.Pompeo, who supports President Donald Trump, said he remains concerned about the long-term impact of tariffs.“President Trump hasn't been clear about his overall strategic objective here,” he said, referring to the escalating trade measures involving nearly every major economy.Herbert said Utah is well-positioned to navigate trade challenges on a state level, but acknowledged the uncertainty is troubling. He also touched on divisions within the Republican Party, especially over trade, noting there are many in the GOP who support Trump but disagree with some of his economic policies.Herbert said his conversation with Pompeo also included discussions on Israel, Russia, China, and other global powers. The two also shared perspectives on U.S. immigration policy, an issue Herbert says Congress has failed to seriously address.“What happens, unfortunately, in my view, is we have too many in Congress setting aside solving a problem as a top priority to getting re-elected as the number one priority — and then they get re-elected, but the people suffer,” Herbert said.On border security, Herbert stressed the need for a “working door” to allow legal entry after the border is secured. He also defended Utah's reputation as a welcoming state, referencing the Utah Compact, a set of principles focused on humane and practical immigration reform. When asked directly whether Utah has become a sanctuary state, Herbert was clear: “Utah is not a sanctuary state.”The former governor also highlighted the work of the Herbert Institute, which is currently focused on researching the use of artificial intelligence in Utah businesses.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It's Tuesday, April 22nd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Pope Francis, who affirmed homosexual ideology, has died Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed once for man to die, and after that the judgment.” The Roman Catholic Pope Francis died Monday of a stroke and heart failure, reports The Epoch Times. He was 88 years old. Francis was not shy to enter into international politics. The pope had recently stated that the Trump administration policies removing illegal immigrants would “end badly.” He had also approved of the Vatican policy allowing church blessings for homosexual couples living in unnatural relations one with another. And he made numerous comments publicly lauding those who advocate LGBT ideology. Francis will also be remembered for his signing over the installation of Catholic bishops in China to the Communist Government. The deal was first signed in 2018, and then renewed in 2020, 2022, and 2024. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo commented on the travesty, stating that “It's clear that the Sino-Vatican agreement has not shielded Catholics from the Party's depredations, to say nothing of the Party's horrific treatment of Christians.” King Charles references Islam in his “Easter message” Sadly, the King of England took opportunity in his “Easter message” to refer to Judaism and Islam, instead of representing the Christian faith, reports The Christian Post. Referring to Jesus, King Charles said, “The love He showed when He walked the Earth reflected the Jewish ethic of caring for the stranger and those in need, a deep human instinct echoed in Islam and other religious traditions, and in the hearts of all who seek the good of others.” Ostensibly, King Charles III is the head of the English Anglican Church. No wonder the Disciples of Christ tweeted, “King Charles is neglecting his role as Defender of the Faith.” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, an atheist, was a little more encouraging to Christians in his Easter message, referencing the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as “a story of hope, redemption and renewal.” He also referred sympathetically with “Christians facing hardship, persecution or conflict around the world who cannot celebrate freely.” Supreme Court: Can parents opt kids out of LGBT propaganda? The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments today from parents in Maryland concerning the public school ban on their opting out their kids on storybook readings on homosexual pride parades, gender transitions, and drag queens, reports USA Today. Mostly Muslim and Christian parents have wanted to opt their children out. Colorado set to punish parents for objecting to kid's gender transition The Colorado State House has approved what may be the worst bill in the nation. The current legislative wording is geared to criminalize parents for disagreeing with their children on gender identity, compel speech, and punish those who hold faith-based or scientific beliefs about sex and gender, reports The Gospel Coalition. Specifically, Colorado liberal legislators could punish a parent guilty of “deadnaming” which is using the transgender child's birth name or “misgendering” which is using pronouns that align with the child's actual biological sex. The legislators describe these actions as forms of “coercive control” which would be considered threatening or intimidating behaviors that courts could consider when determining child custody. Republican Rep. Chris Richardson spoke out against the bill. RICHARDSON: “This is not protecting children, it's weaponizing the courts against parents. This would allow a parent who may be navigating an incredibly complex and emotional issue with their child to lose custody for not affirming a gender identity they may not understand.” Last week, pastors gathered at the capital to protest the bill. Leaders included Pastors Matt Patrick of The Well Church in Boulder, Chris Goble of Ridgeline Community Church in Castle Rock, and Matt Johnson of BRAVE Church in Englewood. The bill is heading for the Democrat-dominated Colorado Senate for approval. Will pastors stand in the gap? Ezekial 22:30 reads of impending judgment: “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” Is Colorado the most anti-gun state? Colorado is also poised to become the most anti-gun state in America. Indeed, 12 bills restricting gun rights have already passed. The state legislature is considering a record 18 more anti-gun bills this season, which would further restrict gun rights, as monitored by the Rocky Mountain Gunowners Association. Family arrested for “kidnapping” own kids over vaccine issue A Massachusetts homeschool family has been arrested for “kidnapping” their own children. They are held on a $200,000 bond or $20,000 cash bail. The couple's five children have reportedly been taken into custody by Child Protective Services. The extreme response was allegedly sparked by the parents' informed decision to decline to vaccinate their healthy nine-month-old baby, on what they called “sincerely-held religious beliefs.” They had attempted an escape to Texas, where they were hunted down and arrested. Walgreens pays $350 million for prescription Walgreens has agreed to pay up to $350 million for allegedly filling unlawful opioid prescriptions, without taking the time to confirm that the prescriptions were lawful, reports Fox 4. The suit was filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration. This is in addition to paying $5.5 billion for a plethora of suits filed by local and state governments. Walgreens is on a path to bankruptcy, planning 1,200 store closures in the next few years. Drug overdose deaths have killed 1.25 million Americans since 1999 — more than the deaths caused by COVID-19. Dow and the Nasdaq composite dropped The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1,000 points, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 3.5% on a Bear Monday. The NASDAQ registered an 18% drop since the first of the year. Meanwhile, gold topped $3,400 per ounce —another record high. The gold-to-silver ratio reached 105-fold — an all-time high. Historically, the ratio has been 20 to 1. Pat Boone is back And finally, Pat Boone is back on the charts with another Adult Contemporary Hit. Former Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo, now a Fox News contributor and author of Never Give an Inch, joined The Guy Benson Show today to weigh in on the latest round of nuclear negotiations with Iran. Pompeo explained why a strong Israel and an assertive U.S. posture under Trump are critical in keeping Iran in check. He also assessed the path forward in the Russia-Ukraine war, noting that Trump's patience with Putin may be running thin following Russia's continued attacks on innocent Ukrainians. Turning to China, Pompeo endorsed the targeted tariffs from the Trump administration but dismissed the idea of tariffs in general in regards to economic growth. He warned that the alliance between China, Russia, and Iran represents a "three-headed monster" that America must confront with clarity and strength. Listen to the full interview below! FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageFive years after a mysterious virus emerged from Wuhan, China, we're still grappling with unanswered questions about COVID-19's origins and accountability. Drawing from Sharri Markson's eye-opening book "What Really Happened in Wuhan," we explore a remarkable January 2020 meeting where Chinese democracy advocate Wei Jingsheng warned Washington insiders about a suspicious virus leak from a laboratory—weeks before the world understood what was coming. This pivotal conversation raises profound questions: Why hasn't there been a comprehensive investigation into COVID-19's origins comparable to the Nuremberg trials after WWII or the tribunals for Rwanda and Yugoslavia? Top intelligence officials from multiple nations now believe a laboratory accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology represents the most probable explanation. Former MI6 chief Sir Richard Dearlove states "the weight of evidence is actually on the escapee side," while former CIA Director Mike Pompeo identifies the Wuhan lab as the likely source. Yet meaningful accountability remains out of reach. We examine the unique geopolitical challenges preventing justice—China's superpower status, the difficulty in establishing clear intent versus negligence, and international reluctance to confront Beijing. The stark reality is that China has been the source of multiple serious disease outbreaks in recent decades, raising urgent questions about global biosafety standards and potential consequences for nations that repeatedly endanger global health. Despite these obstacles, the millions who lost their lives deserve our continued pursuit of truth and accountability. Five years may not be enough time to untangle this complex catastrophe, but history shows that persistence in seeking justice matters, however challenging that path may be.Join us as we reflect on this somber anniversary and consider what meaningful steps toward accountability might still be possible, even as the window for justice narrows with each passing year.Key Points from the Episode:• Exploring Sharri Markson's book "What Really Happened in Wuhan" and key early warning from Chinese democracy advocate Wei Jingsheng• Comparing COVID-19 to historical justice mechanisms like Nuremberg, Rwanda, and Cambodia tribunals• Examining statements from intelligence leaders including former MI6 and CIA heads supporting the lab leak theory• Analyzing the geopolitical obstacles preventing meaningful investigation and accountability• Questioning what justice might look like five years after the pandemic began• Highlighting China's repeated role in pandemic outbreaks over recent decades• Considering whether stronger international biosafety standards and potential UN Security Council consequences should be implementedKeep fighting the good fight and seeking truth about COVID-19's origins despite the challenges.Other resources: Want to leave a review?
For the first time in decades, the Iranian regime is defenseless. Will President Donald Trump seize on the moment and finally depose of the brutal theocracy before it gets “the bomb” or instead pursue another “maximum pressure” campaign, cutting the ayatollah off from the rest of the world? Victor Davis Hanson lays out these options and what role the MAGA worldview may play in the Trump administration's decision-making on today's edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words” “Remember that fable of our youth when the mice got together and they say, ‘The cat is picking us off one by one. We need to put a bell around his neck so we could be warned.' And everybody said, ‘That's a great idea.' “The next item of business among the mice assembly was, who will bell the cat? What I'm getting at is the Europeans, I think even the Chinese and Russians, don't want on their border a nuclear Iran. The Americans, the Israelis, everybody knows they should not—that theocratic regime should not get the bomb. But who bells the cat? ... “Maybe the correct stance of the incoming Trump administration is to go back to the maximum-pressure campaign of Mike Pompeo and Donald Trump and have strict sanctions on oil exports, maybe even a blockade, put the pressure on so the people then throw the theocracy out itself. “But on the other hand, people are going to argue, ‘Wait a minute, there are no Iranian air defenses. For one of the few times in history, that regime is naked. There is no Assad. There is no Hezbollah. There is no Hamas. There is no Houthis that are capable of, as surrogates, attacking the Israeli state. “‘So, maybe you could attack Iran—just this brief window—because Israel, in a series of brilliant air responses, has destroyed its ability—Tehran's ability to defend itself.'” Don't miss out on Victor's latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Earlier this week marked three years since Russia began their military invasion of Ukraine. During the 2024 campaign, President Donald Trump asserted that "the war would have never begun had he been in office" and has made ending the conflict a top priority in his second term. Foreign leaders are heading to DC this week as the new administration works toward achieving peace in Europe. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo joins to share why he thinks European leaders have failed in responding to Russian aggression, highlights key principles that should guide the nation's response, and condemns the actions of Hamas. The House will vote later this week on a budget resolution much larger than the Senate approved last week. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated on Sunday that he hopes for final approval in April and that they can "work things out with the Senate later on." The House's version of President Trump's 'one big beautiful bill' would extend his 2017 tax cuts, which will expire at the end of the year. Thomas Savidge, a research fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research, joins to explain how both chambers plan to come together on a budget agreement and why compromise is necessary in government. The US government's talks with Russia are more about China than Ukraine. Donald Trump admitted he wants to "un-unite" Russia and China, in a reverse of the divide-and-conquer strategy used by Nixon and Kissinger in the 1970s. Can Trump do it? Andrew points to security details yanked and security clearances revoked as blatant retaliation against Trump's perceived foes. Mary highlights several judges who are pushing back against blanket pardons for J6 convictions. Then, they turn to Trump's executive action on birthright citizenship, reviewing several challenges already in motion, including a case brought by Mary and her ICAP team. And before wrapping up, our two resident career litigators look at the withering independence of the Justice Department from the White House, and how all roads lead through the DOJ.Further reading: Here is the New York Times' piece on Kash Patel that Andrew mentioned in this episode: F.B.I. How did the billionaire businessman Jimmy Lai become one of Hong Kong's leading activists for democracy—and China's most famous political prisoner today? Jimmy Lai escaped mainland China when he was 12 years old, at the height of a famine that killed tens of millions. In Hong Kong, he hustled; no work was beneath him, and he often slept on a table in a clothing factory where he did odd jobs. At 21, he was running a factory. By his mid-twenties, he owned one and was supplying sweaters and shirts to some of the biggest brands in the United States, from Polo to The Limited. His ideas about retail led him to create Giordano in 1981, and with it “fast fashion.” A restless entrepreneur, as Giordano prepared to go public, he was thinking about a dining concept that would disrupt Hong Kong's fast-food industry. But then came the Tiananmen Square democracy protest and the massacre of 1989. His reaction to the violence was to enter the media business to push China toward more freedoms. He started a magazine, Next, to advocate for democracy in Hong Kong. Then, just two years before the city was to return to Chinese control, he founded the Apple Daily newspaper. Its mix of bold graphics, gossip, local news, and opposition to the Chinese Communist Party was an immediate hit. For more than two decades, Lai used Apple and Next as part of a personal push for democracy—in weekly columns, at rallies and marches, and, memorably, sitting in front of a tent during the 2014 Occupy Central movement. Lai also took his activism abroad, traveling frequently to Washington, where he was well known in Congress and in political circles. China reacted with fury in 2019 when he met with Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. A draconian new security law came into effect in Hong Kong in mid-2020, effectively making free speech a crime and censorship a fact. Lai was its most important target. Apple Daily was raided on August 10, 2020. He was arrested and held without bail before being convicted of trumped-up charges ranging from lighting a candle (“incitement to riot”) to violating a clause in his company's lease (“fraud”). At the end of 2023, a lengthy trial began alleging “collusion with foreign forces” and printing seditious materials. China's most famous political prisoner has been in jail for more than 1,100 days and could spend the rest of his life there. Pompeo weighed in on the respective motivations for the attacks, which claimed at least 16 lives combined. Pompeo also outlined what the US can do to continue to secure it's borders and prevent devastating attacks like this from occurring. Pompeo and Benson also criticized the Biden DOJ's plea deal for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, calling it a disservice to justice amid fresh violence on U.S. soil. Benson also asked Pomeo about his views on the national security threat posed by TikTok and if the platform should be banned. SERIES 3 EPISODE 68: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:00) SPECIAL COMMENT: If you're wondering who's the boss here it ain't Trump. Putin refused to call him first and instead had Russian State Television "celebrate" his becoming the 21st Century Grover Cleveland by showing nude photos of Melania. Russian TV - which has figured out Trump is a lame duck - also reported Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo would not be in the new administration long before Trump announced it. Putin also seems to have soured on RFK Jr, leaving Sideshow Bobby to aspire only to becoming Secretary of Masturbation. MEANWHILE, NO, THE ELECTION WAS NOT STOLEN - not in the sense you're thinking. It WAS stolen in the sense that the fascists and the anti-democracy billionaires have been running a series of illicit, hidden, disguised pro-Republican advertisements 24/7/365, for at least thirty years. They have been bombarding the underachievers of this nation, the incels, the morons, the idiots, the bros, and now the social media addicts of America, with a series of easy-to-digest, sweet-tasting conspiracy theories on a thousand streaming networks and podcasts and the Democrats have...MSNBC. The Left not only doesn't compete in the new Marketplace of Ideas it doesn't know where the shops are. It has to change this or you can forget '26 and '28 as well. On the other hand, this circular firing squad? Utterly ludicrous. It looks like Kamala Harris will have ultimately lost by 1.5% which would make Trump's the fifth SMALLEST popular vote win all time. You do not burn it all down after that. You rebuild. B-BLOCK (32:15) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Corey Lewandowski and Chris LaCivita show us what winning means: you get to try to kill your rival on the winning team. Finally we figure out what's really behind the deportation scam: the companies that will make billions building the private prisons to turn into concentration camps for deportees. Nevermind the future of NATO. Will its members ever trust us with intel again? And the Dallas Cowboys honor founding coach Tom Landry on Veterans' Day by...misspelling his name.
