Whiskey of the Week Slim Haney’s 1965 Seagram’s VO Reynolds and Hambrick do a quick overview of the forces the body is subjected to when moving barbells. The big takeaway is that we use our knowledge anatomy and of moment, torque, compression and tension to help us determine what the best possible form for each barbell lift should be. In the squat, for example, we preferentially load moment on the back segment and torque on the hip in order to move the most weight possible, with the most muscle mass, over the longest effective range of motion.
