Text the Show or Leave a VoicemailImagine that someone with a knife or another deadly weapon is charging at you with intent to kill. How close do they have to be for you to deploy deadly force? Did you say 21 feet? That's what I've always been told. But what if you take that shot and now you're on trial for murder and the prosecutor has evidence that says the assailant was twenty-two feet away when you took your shot. Oh, no! Our guest today is Doug Deaton, and hopefully your lawyer will hire someone like Doug, a veteran cop and expert on use of force issues, to give testimony as an expert witness in court. Doug has done exactly that and I brought him today to tell the story of when a lawyer let him explain the 21-foot rule to a jury.Music is by Chris HaugenHey Chaplain podcast Episode 143Tags:Police, Career, Court, Detectives, Expert Testimony, Guns, Justice, Movement, Shootings, SWAT, Tactics, Dallas, TexasSupport the showThanks for Listening! What makes someone a JOY Rules guest? Not fame. Not a resume. Aliveness. In this behind-the-curtain-meets-heart-to-heart episode, Lorelei shares her guest criteria—people who are “up to something” because of their inner knowing—and Aileen Deaton embodies it beautifully.Meet Aileen Deaton—86, a firecracker with a message, and here to lovingly roast the cultural myth of “inevitable decline.” Aileen is not here for “act your age.” She's here for act your aliveness. In this episode, she and Lorelei talk about the cultural trance that says aging equals decline—and how Aileen wants to help people wake up from it.Aging isn't a sentence. With Gemini sparkle and wit, plus a big Uranus energy, she's rewriting the rules—one laugh (and one brave choice) at a time. with her quick mind, her tender truth, and her fierce commitment to ageless living. In this JOY Rules episode, Lorelei and Aileen explore what happens when a Gemini Sun gets a cosmic knock at the door—Uranus approaching her Sun—and the invitation is clear: get freer, get louder, get more YOU.This episode of JOY Rules is a cosmic wake-up call for your voice and your freedom. Aileen (86!) brings Gemini wit, big heart, and a no-nonsense take on living agelessly—starting right now. What if your next chapter isn't about “settling down,” but breaking open—in the best way? Aileen shares how life's plot twists shaped her resilience (including a season of profound uncertainty), how she discovered astrology through an unexpected chapter of her working life, and why she's passionate about helping others untangle the “programming” that says getting older means getting smaller. Together. Lorelei and Aileen weave astrology, courage, decluttering-as-liberation, and the surprisingly radical practice of letting yourself be supported, and why receiving help might be the most rebellious thing we do.Aileen's story holds both grit and glow: the moments that shaped her strength, the ways she reclaimed her breath and her voice, and her desire to help others stop rehearsing decline. Warning: You may finish this episode wanting to clear a closet, call a friend, and begin again—JOYfully. This episode is part cosmic forecast, part heart-talk, and fully a permission slip to keep evolving—no matter your age.

And a growing sense that something deeper is broken. In this hour of Rush To Reason, John Rush and Steve House tackle the question many Americans are quietly asking—how did we get here, and can we get back? From COVID vaccine data and global tensions to Marxism, taxation, and government overreach, the conversation pulls no punches. But the deeper dive comes in healthcare, where skyrocketing costs, pharmaceutical influence, and overlooked solutions raise unsettling questions: is the system built to heal—or to sustain itself? Then comes the future—artificial intelligence. Will it revolutionize productivity and quality of life, or expose the widening gap between those who adapt and those left behind? As private industry accelerates, government appears stuck, raising concerns about inefficiency, vulnerability, and leadership disconnected from reality. And in the end, one sobering realization emerges—real power may not lie with elected officials at all, but with the systems and staffers that remain long after elections end. So what does real reform look like? And who's actually in control? Guest List Steve House — Business & Healthcare Executive HOUR 2 What happens when the people in power are more afraid of losing their jobs than fixing the country? In Hour 2 of Rush To Reason, John Rush pulls back the curtain with guests Jim Pfaff and John Deaton to expose the deeper forces shaping politics today. From Washington, D.C. dysfunction to Colorado's uphill political battle, the conversation reveals a system driven by incentives, fear, and a lack of real-world experience. Why do so many politicians cling to power—and what happens when they lose it? The answers may explain more than voters realize. Then comes a powerful shift—can the American Dream still be achieved? Deaton's personal story says yes, but rising debt, career politicians, and shifting economic realities raise a bigger question: is that path getting harder for the next generation? And finally, a hard truth: elections aren't lost the way many think. It's not just systems or strategies—it's candidates, messaging, and the ability to connect with voters who actually decide outcomes. So what really needs to change—and who's willing to say it out loud? In Hour 3 of Rush To Reason, John Rush and Jerzee Joe deliver a fast-moving, eye-opening conversation that stretches from local radio to global realities. It starts with a simple question—why does local, listener-driven radio still matter? The answer reveals something bigger: real conversations uncover truths that headlines often miss. From there, the discussion dives into contradictions in policy, from voter ID debates to government spending, and even the economic collapse unfolding in places like California. When population stagnates, but spending explodes, what's the endgame? The hour takes a hard turn into fraud, oversight failures, and pension risks—raising a critical question: who ultimately pays when systems break down? Neil interviews Darin Deaton, a physical therapist, entrepreneur, and rancher. Darin shares his shift from pre-med toward PT after observing an independent practice owner's lifestyle, his education at Texas Woman's University, and juggling full-time work with graduate school. He describes learning business through an early partnership, then launching his own clinic using SBA financing and a $60,000 investor check that enabled a 1998 seven-figure exit. Darin later built and sold a seven-location Fort Worth PT group (sold in 2024) and runs DPT Therapy. They discuss Deaton Ranch Beef, regenerative ranching, raising Achi/Red Wagyu over Angus, local food systems, health pillars, aging and muscle loss, faith, integrity, and "Make America Grit Again."
