Sarah is joining Meredith and KJ at the end of this nail-biter season. The Apocalypse is truly nigh, leaving the group to wonder about the source of the fake voicemail and even more mysteriously the details of Chuck's last-night-on-Earth plan. KJ tells an unexpected (but actually enjoyable!) prank anecdote. CW Episode Description: The Apocalypse is coming, and Sam and Dean prepare for the fight in very different ways. Sam joins Ruby (guest star Genevieve Cortese) on a final run to kill Lilith (guest star Katherine Boecher), while Castiel (guest star Misha Collins) and Zachariah (guest star Kurt Fuller) tell Dean it's time to play his part in stopping Lucifer.Episode recorded on October 12, 2024.Linktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastGuest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraSarah: scurtscurt on twitter and instagram, scurt.scurt on TikTok
Things with the Winchester brothers are tense, which means KJ's ‘protect Sam Winchester' alarm is blaring! KJ and Meredith are joined by returning guest Nick and first time guest, a true tumblrino, Androids! KJ calls into question the location planning of the panic room and the liver and kidney function of Bobby and the Winchesters. Lots of deep thoughts on character motivations, the way we rationalize on a human level, and some silly wonderings about the exact mechanics of demon blood as an addictive substance.CW Episode Description: Dean and Bobby (guest star Jim Beaver) lock Sam in Bobby's panic room so he can detox from the demon blood. However, as Bobby sees more seals are being broken he tells Dean they should let Sam out to help them fight the impending apocalypse. KJ and Meredith invited Pluto to come talk about Castiel and queerness, but through the powers of discussion, this episode actually ended up being about a lot of the metatext and paratext around Supernatural in its middle years and since. Some topics covered include: the crypt scene (S08E17), the foundations of Destiel, the infamous 2016 Destiel Market Research, the 2013 Chad Kennedy tweets, and the widower arc.Episode recorded on September 15, 2024.Linktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastGuest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraPluto- all their socials including Substack: https://linktr.ee/spideyhighlightyLink to the original Destiel Market Research post by hurdlehoops: https://www.tumblr.com/hurdlehoops/635344500543406080?source=share Tumblr post from Fandom Debunker with a lot of the Chad Kennedy twitter screenshots: https://fandomdebunker.tumblr.com/post/64860502869/regarding-chad-kennedy
Reupload of Discussion 17 - Originally posted August 26, 2024, in honor of the apparent death of 9-1-1's Captain Bobby Nash (KJ is subscribed to buried alive theory until the credits roll on the S8 finale)...............Have you ever invested significant emotions and time into a franchise only for a character who has spent all their screen time valiantly overcoming their demons to be struck down (maybe poetically, maybe just cruelly) in the final moments? Had all their character development undone for the sake of symmetry? (If you answer no, I've got bad news for you about some upcoming content on this podcast) Were you left emotionally bereft when a character was killed off instead of given the in-universe time and resources to manage their trauma? Well, you're not alone! KJ and Meredith are joined this week by Mary (Carrying Wayward) and JJ (@jjbwaywatch) to talk about some shows and movies that ended in the death of a major (and thoroughly traumatized) character, and discuss why this trope is so popular with writers but maybe less popular with the audience.Spoiler alert for the endings and/or major character deaths of the following pieces of media: Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Sons of Anarchy, Veronica Mars, Game of Thrones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Princess Bride, and Timeless.Episode recorded on August 27, 2023.Linktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastGuest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraJJ (tiktok and twitter): jjbwaywatchMary: maryturner_ (twitter)Carrying Wayward: https://linktr.ee/CarryingWayward
KJ and Meredith are joined by returning guest, Jenn! This week we're getting acquainted with Cas's vessel, Jimmy Novak. It's Jenn's first time watching this episode and she really loved it, so we have a lot to discuss. KJ wants to know where the heck Ruby is in this time of angel-demon crisis? And the team workshops some gear that would do big business in the demon-hunting world.CW Episode Description: Castiel (guest star Misha Collins) appears to Dean in a dream and says he has something important to tell him but they need to meet somewhere private. Dean and Sam go searching for Castiel but instead find Jimmy, Castiel's human vessel, who has only a spotty recollection of being an angel. KJ and Meredith are talking with Cas-Expert Ella (The Cas Cast), in this mostly Cas-free episode. KJ has come prepared with all of the math around John Winchester's whereabouts (spoilers, we continue to find things to hate about John Winchester). Meredith gives us a rundown on ghoul lore, and questions the purpose of the huge vent in the Milligan house. Ella relishes in the family dynamics this episode brings us. KJ accuses Sam of revisionist history and spoils season 4 of Charmed (1998)CW Episode Description: A 19-year-old boy named Adam (guest star Jake Abel) calls Sam and Dean looking for John Winchester, claiming to be his son. Dean and Sam meet Adam, assuming he's a demon trying to lure them into a trap. KJ and Meredith are joined by Moira and Alyssa this week as Sam and Dean learn the disturbing news that their lives have been turned into a series of books- and even worse, they're in the bargain bin and the publishing deal's been revoked! KJ is demanding more information about an Archangel v. Lilith showdown, Meredith's educating us about prophets, and the whole crew is asking- what would your reaction be to finding out your friends' whole lives (even the VERY PRIVATE bits) are out there and on the page?CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean are shocked to discover a series of comic books titled "Supernatural" that accurately detail their lives as demon hunters. They track down the writer, Carver Edlund (guest star Rob Benedict), who explains he has visions of the brothers that he then turns into comic books. KJ and Meredith are joined by August (of Saving People, Queering Things) and Sarah (sometimes of Raising Perdition) for max Pod Squad crossover energy. This week Sam and Dean are living through an Office AU, where some Choices(TM) have been made about their personalities. Everyone's in agreement on one thing in this episode, and that's that you should not watch adult videos at work. Just don't do it. This episode really gets into who Sam and Dean are at their core, and as you can imagine, our guests have a lot to say on that topic, plus, there's a new angel in the garrison and Dean already hates him!International Suicide Hotline Resources: https://blog.opencounseling.com/suicide-hotlines/CW Episode Description: Dean and Sam are living very normal and separate lives. Dean is a corporate man who enjoys health drinks and listens to news radio vs. rock stations. He works at a company called Sandover Bridge & Iron Company alongside Sam (Jared Padalecki) who is in Tech Support. It seems as if the two do not know each other. KJ and Meredith are joined by Ella (The Cas Cast) for this heavy-hitting episode. Sam, Dean, and Cas each have their own storylines, a frightening glimpse into the future of Supernatural and the task ahead of this podcast. There's big news about Sam's extracurriculars this week, leading to a serious conversation around the impact of hosting a demon on the vessel and the composition of demon blood. KJ would like to study the relationship between people who separate the Winchesters and imminent death. Ella wonders if demons are consuming a lot of media. Editing Noah makes a cameo!CW Episode Description: Someone found Lucifer's sword and is using it to kill angels. Castiel (guest star Misha Collins) and Uriel (guest star Robert Wisdom) have captured Alastair (guest star Christopher Heyerdahl) and ask Dean to use the torturing skills he learned in Hell to extract information from him so they can stop the murders. KJ, August (Saving People, Queering Things), and Alyssa don't get a holiday in this episode, but they do get to to recap this episode of Supernatural. KJ takes a hard stance on a hard truth about Dean, everyone forgets one of the key plots of this episode, and Pamela is dubbed an icon in her final episode.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean investigate a small town where people are cheating death. They discover the Reapers have gone missing so they turn to Pamela (guest star Traci Dinwiddie) for help. Sex and Violence experts Beth and Hannah, along with their Raising Perdition co-host Abby Jo, help KJ and Meredith through this week's episode where the doctor/coroner is an alcoholic, the siren is Judd from 9-1-1: Lone Star, and there's uproar over censorship and a passionate plea to let Sam get laid, just not in this particular episode. In a shocking twist of fate, the squad favorably compares John Winchester to some of the spousal, parenting, and finance choices of this week's victims.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean enter a small town in Iowa, where three men have inexplicably beaten their wives to death. The guys realize that behind the murders is a Siren, a creature that can take different forms and desperately needs love and compels people to destroy themselves as a show of devotion. The Siren eventually puts Sam and Dean under their spell and pits the two brothers against each other in a fight to the death.Episode recorded on November 10, 2023.Thank you to Loki for editing assistance on this episode.Linktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastGuest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraFind Beth, Hannah, and Abby Jo on their podcast, Raising Perdition: https://linktr.ee/raisingperditionHannah: hannahluvsdean on all the thingsBeth: bethlovescas on all the things
While KJ and Meredith met in school, you couldn't pay them to go back there now. And yet, that's what Sam and Dean are doing this week, so we're bringing our guest Frances along for the ride and hoping for the best. KJ revels in some Sam comment, but admits that having Sam content at the expense of Dean's character assassination might be too high a cost. KJ and Meredith try pitifully to identify the contents of geometry set.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean go undercover to investigate a string of murders at their old high school. KJ and Meredith have brought in recurring guest, renowned fic-writer Jenn to talk about some monsters that didn't find a place in 327 episodes, but should have. We talk overarching mythologies, specific monsters and locations, and other missed opportunities. Note: There's a slight audio issue on this episode that resulted in some of the audio being a bit choppy, it appears to be a one-time problem, and we did what we could with it. KJ knows way too much about Criss Angel this week and Meredith, Ella (The Cas Cast) and JJ (jjbwaywatch) are all forced to listen to it. JJ rates this episode out of Taco Bell Tacos and it makes the most perfect sense. The crew does some math as we get an update on the lost seals situation. There's a lot of homoerotic subtext in this one, and it could not be ignored. CW Episode Description: A mysterious death draws Sam and Dean to a town full of old-school magicians. Their investigation leads them to Charlie (guest star John Rubinstein), Jay (guest star Barry Bostwick) and Vernon (guest star Richard Libertini), three friends who were famous magicians in their day but have now been replaced by flashier, younger magicians. Content warning to animal cruelty/death in this episode. We don't want to talk about it either. As promised, KJ and Meredith are all alone this week to hustle through this episode and provide insights in a quick and efficient manner that leaves us dwelling on the hand-licking and dog dying for as little time as possible. As promised, KJ hates this episode, and maybe that's fun for everyone else? KJ and Meredith split the case of the week segment with two different real life crimes that this episode was possibly inspired by. CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean investigate the appearance of a young female ghost in an abandoned house, but things become more complicated when a family moves in. However, they disagree with the angels' orders and try to help Anna restore an important part of her past so she can be saved. KJ is joined by Meredith as well as the hosts of Idling in the Impala, Sandra and Kasey, where KJ finds company in the pro-Sam camp. A lot of information about Sam comes to light in this one, and the reinforcement was absolutely needed. We also get a lot of information about the actual mechanics of The Apocalypse™. Also new angels and demons drop, and we apply too much earth logic to the CW's Supernatural.Other topics include: first aid and wound care, John slander, Ruby's french fry order, intimacy coordinators, demon vessel gender roles, corporate policies on demon deals, and Alistair being OPCW Episode Description: Ruby (guest star Genevieve Cortese) tells Sam and Dean that a powerful demon named Alastair (guest star Mark Rolston) is searching for a girl named Anna (guest star Julie McNiven) who can hear the angels' conversations. The three set out to find Anna but once they do, Alastair attacks them and Ruby escapes with the girl. Believing they were set up, Dean lashes out at Sam for trusting Ruby, so Sam tells him what happened during those months Dean was in Hell and how Ruby saved his life. Meredith's away so KJ and Frances will play- aka talk about this wacky episode of Supernatural where Sam dies and no one even remembers it happening. There's a lot of out of pocket events in this episode for KJ and Frances to riff on including the denouncement of Bigfoot in the Supernatural universe. Sam and Dean also go for a record number of different alias jobs in one episode. KJ and Meredith are joined by fellow podcaster Katie (Making It Up As We Go: A Destiel Fanfic Anthology Podcast) to talk about fears in this week's episode of Supernatural. Dean's infected with ghost sickness and we get a glimpse into some of his deepest fears. KJ argues **gasp** that Sam is just as much of a jerk as Dean and should have been infected, and the crew wonder if Sam is turning evil or is it a lingering symptom of Dean's fear. KJ previously went on record in a bonus episode of Driver Picks the Podcast to rank this episode as one of their bottom five of the Kripke Era. This week, Beth and Jamie come aboard with KJ and Meredith to convince KJ that this episode is actually *art*. This episode is fun old-horror movie themed and the bottom line is that this episode works because everyone committed to the bit.Other topics include: Sam going to movies alone, Oktoberfest, Halloween, Australian vs Canadian holidays, and who has the most one-off characters with the same name as them (lowkey reveal of KJ's government name), Sam and Dean's respective approaches to flirting, and KJ gives a piece of "parenting advice" that the rest of the panel judge to be on the level with Parent of the Year John Winchester.CW Episode Description: Dean and Sam investigate several murders at Oktoberfest. The first victim was found with bite marks on her neck, much like a vampire would leave, while the second victim has wounds that look like a werewolf attack. Just when you thought Editing KJ had died (and this episode DID attempt to kill them!), KJ is back to spend yet another week diving deep into the CW network's walls. This week a bonus episode starring Meredith and August!Instead of notes, here's a list of corrections Editing KJ had of Recording KJ's words:Note that Kevin did in fact lose a kidney, as does Fangs, contrary to what KJ told Meredith in this episode. Seven seasons is a lot to remember specific details on. KJ also mixed up season 2 and season 3 in the Meredith portions of the episode. KJ would also like to note that they criticized the pacing of the end of season 4 in the August portion of the episode, and the end of season 4 was impacted by COVID, and is the reason those three episodes were pushed into season 5. Special thank you to Noah (@podcatsedits on instagram) for editing this episode.KJ and Meredith are joined by a very fun duo of Kate and Bahy this week to talk about Kim Manners' final episode of Supernatural. KJ has a regret about their extensive Supernatural statistics. Dean says if he didn't know Sam, he'd want to hunt him, leading the squad to ponder the question of how psychic is too psychic? The crew also lodges a complaint about eating on Supernatural and in this episode in particular.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean discover that Jack Montgomery (guest star Dameon Clark), a family man, is turning into a Rugaru, a creature that starts as a human but changes into a flesh-eating monster. The people who are infected don't understand what is happening until they turn into cannibals and eat another person. Understanding what it is like to be a victim of a twisted destiny, Sam believes he can reason with Jack and convince him to control his urges. Special thank you to Noah (@podcatsedits on instagram) for editing this episode.KJ, Meredith, and Nick are time traveling and KJ is here to make even more Back to the Future references than this episode of Supernatural. KJ condemns Sam Winchester's fashion tastes even though there's a significant lack of Sam in this episode. The crew discusses the cancellation of The Winchesters and what exactly John Winchester thinks happened to the Campbells in this episode. Eric Kripke comes under fire for a questionable showrunner decision.CW Episode Description: Dean is transported back in time and is shocked when he lands in Lawrence, Kansas. However, that shock turns to amazement after he runs into a young John Winchester (guest star Matt Cohen) and Mary (guest star Amy Gumenick) who have just fallen in love. Dean isn't sure why he was sent back so he begins to enjoy the time with his parents and newfound grandfather (guest star Mitch Pileggi, "The X-Files"), who may be hiding a secret that is key to Sam and Dean's entire predicament.Linktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastGuest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraNick: nicklink7 on tiktok and instagram

Just ahead of the introduction of Misha's characeracer Castiel to the podcast, we take a quick (or not so quick) look at one of Misha's post-Supernatural characters, folklore professor Jeremy Bradshaw. The stars are aligning after months of delay and KJ and Meredith are kicking off the new season with Frances to talk about Bridgewater Season 2 just ahead of what seems to be an announcement about the future of the Bridgewater series! The crew breaks down the events of season 2, puzzle through the show's nebulous timeline, and share their thoughts both while listening and now that they've finished the season. It's a Pod Squad roundup on the season 3 finale as KJ and Meredith are joined by August (Saving People, Queering Things), and Beth and Jamie (Driver Picks The Podcast, Thief Steals The Podcast). The squad struggles not to talk about Cas as his presence looms so closely. Also up for discussion is hellhounds on planes and financial compensation for Bobby Singer. It was a stretch to get one last episode out in 2023, but we made it and we wrapped up a season to boot!CW Episode Description: It's 30 hours before Dean's deal with the crossroads demon is up and Dean, Sam and Bobby (Jim Beaver) are searching for Lilith, who holds the contract. They discover her location and Sam summons Ruby for help despite Dean's protests. Ruby warns them they aren't ready to fight Lilith yet but they steal her knife and depart for New Harmony, Indiana. If you thought KJ's death count was wacky during Mystery Spot, you're not prepared for the math happening in the wake of Doc Benton. KJ, Meredith, and Frances are gathered this week to ask some questions about surgical practices. And Frances takes on the mythology section this week with some information about the urban legend that inspired this week's shenanigans. Also included: A healthy dose of making all of this John's fault.CW Episode Description: As time runs out for Dean, Sam convinces him to head to Erie, Pennsylvania to investigate a possible zombie case. Instead, they discover Doc Benton (guest star Billy Drago), a real-life doctor who, in 1816, abandoned his medical practice to follow his obsession with finding the key to eternal life by drugging people and stealing their vital organs. Meanwhile, Bobby (guest star Jim Beaver) finds out where Bela is hiding, and Dean heads out to confront her, leaving Sam behind to deal with the good doctor. KJ, Meredith, and Katie (Making It Up As We Go) are recapping this episode and asking some very basic questions about this week's monster that this episode and even Meredith's mythology section don't really have answers for. It's an episode of fun facts where Kentucky is called out for naming it's towns with pronunciations at odds with the rest of the world, KJ mixes up two famous inventors and causes a tangent for no real reason, and John Winchester is unfortunately back on the pod's radar.CW Episode Description: Dean is stunned after he receives a phone call from his dad (guest star Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who tells him he has a solution to get Dean out of his deal. KJ, Meredith, Beth (Raising Perdition), and Out (Divergent Canon) discuss the Ghostfacers' Effect, swearing in Supernatural, and the effects of time on this iconic episode of retro-TV-series-Supernatural.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean take a break from their usual gig to star in a gritty reality show called "Ghostfacers" which chronicles the pursuit of the paranormal. Ed Zeddmore (guest star A. J. Buckley) and Harry Spengler (guest star Travis Wester) have created a radically different and sometimes violent show full of profanity that takes them to the Morton Mansion, an abandoned estate which becomes one of the most haunted places in America one night every four years. KJ, Meredith, and Elayna (Saving People, Queering Things) host a summit on a character entirely unique to this season, and that is Bela Talbot. After a brief interlude to talk about that one angel that doesn't even go here yet, they get to business talking about Supernatural's best business woman! Along with Bela's storyline, they also cover the role female characters play on Supernatural and the precedence this set for future characters. Also Elayna defends her love for season three, and why it actually benefited from the 2007 WGA strike.Content note: This discussion episode is even more spoilery than necessary, the crew did not stay on mission, and first time watchers may wish to skip this episode. “Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time”This podcast is back from the near-death caused by the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike to talk about an episode of Supernatural where Dean just cannot stop dying. KJ, Meredith, Jenn, and Chi gathered to talk about Mystery Spot. We take a quick minute to talk about a writer who didn't write this episode and wasn't credited at all in any way with it. Then we have to make a tough decision about what this means for the Death Count segment. We also discuss in depth in-universe explanations for the suspicious lack of Florida content in Supernatural. KJ also campaigns hard for maple syrup as the ultimate breakfast condiment.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean investigate the disappearance of a man who went missing at a tourist location. While searching the site, Dean is shot and killed by the owner. Sam is devastated but stunned when he wakes up the next morning to find Dean alive and well. As the day unfolds, Sam realizes he is re-living the previous day and tries to prevent Dean's death, but to no avail. KJ and Meredith are joined by KJ's Series of Opinions cohost Moira and Mary (Carrying Wayward) to talk about Supernatural, as well as another show that aired a pilot on September 13, 2005-Bones. Based on the life and crime fiction novels of Kathy Reichs, Bones is a crime procedural that follows Dr. Temperance Brennan and her team of scientists in helping FBI Agent Seeley Booth solve murders where the remains are particularly degraded. KJ and Meredith are hosting a slightly emotionally damaging holiday party with Jordan and Jeremy (Monster of the Week and Still His Kingdom Keeps). Small Sam and Dean are being neglected by John (big surprise), and Adult Sam and Dean are facing down their last Christmas together. Our monsters this week are frighteningly polite but that doesn't stop them from trying to eat our favorite monster hunters. Jeremy shares some old MOTW notes, Meredith shares some history of the word pagan, and the group discusses the brain damage the Winchesters have caused themselves drinking and being knocked out over the years.CW Episode Description: It's Christmas time and Sam and Dean investigate a series of murders where the victims were pulled up through the chimney. Sam realizes they are dealing with a sort of Anti-Santa, a demon with roots in pagan lore. Dean wants to celebrate Christmas the old fashioned way as this is his last, but Sam refuses, not wanting to accept that Dean won't be around next year. KJ and Meredith are joined by long-time guest Frances, as well as Meredith's sister Audrey for the conclusion of Gordon's storyline. If we had a nickel for every time a former Buffy actress played a vampire in a Gordon episode, we'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that this time KJ's seen all of BTVS. It's also a Bela episode, and Sam and Dean have *checks notes* their 100th fight about Dean's deal this season. At least this one leads to actual communication. CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean capture a female vampire named Lucy (guest star Mercedes McNab) who claims to have no knowledge of how she became a vampire. The guys discover Dixon (guest star Matthew Humphreys), a male vampire, is giving out human blood to unsuspecting females in bars, offering it up as the "latest drug" and turning them all into vampires. Despite gathering some lovers of fairytales, this episode failed to impress KJ or their guests-Meredith, Nick, and Audrey. However Meredith did give us a great lesson on the Grim Brothers, everyone writes a happy ending for two characters most harmed in the course of this episode, and Audrey and KJ do double-takes at the Demi Lovato look-alike in this episode.
