After my longest break yet, I pop back up just in time to want to go back into hiding, being Election Day and all. In the meantime, here are my ramblings on two horror movie marathons I attended in October: 1. "They're Here" at Brain Dead Studios in Los Angeles, where I watched the following haunted house-themed films in 16mm: Amityville II: The Possession (1982); Something Evil (1972); Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986); The Others (2001); The Entity (1982); and House (1985) 2. "Camp Frida: British Invasion" at The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana, where I watched the following UK-based horror movies: Ghostwatch (1992); The Legend of Hell House (1973); The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971); Theatre of Blood (1973); Dracula (1958); and Xtro (1982) Click here for the blog version of this episode.

On Halloween night of 1992, millions of people across the UK gathered around their TV sets to watch a one-off, highly anticipated television special. ‘Ghostwatch' looked like the perfect viewing choice for the spookiest evening of the year, but it soon became clear that all was not quite as it seemed. This is the fascinating – and truly tragic – story of the ‘spoof that duped a nation'. While many loved it, it was met with criticism from many, and had real-life tragic consequences. To this day, we're still terrified by it!We discuss:Tom's 'real' ghost story that made him believe in ghostsWhy Crimewatch and Casualty were scarier than they should have beenMichael Parkinson's surprisingly excellent acting

On Halloween Night 1992, the BBC aired Ghostwatch, which purported to be a live investigation into a house and family that had been plagued by poltergeist activity. The studio segments were hosted by Michael Parkinson, while children's presenter Sarah Greene explored the house and interviewed the family at the center of the haunting. Things started to go very wrong and the show ended in disaster. Due to a quirk of scheduling, a large part of the audience didn't realise that it was all fake. Ghostwatch is frequently listed as one of the scariest TV moments of all time. Ghostwatch was written by Stephen Volk and directed by Lesley Manning. Comics writer and artist Nick Roche joins us to relive his experience of watching Ghostwatch, aged 13, dressed as Batman for Halloween. Nick is @NickRoche. It's episode 295…and what big eyes you have, what big hands you have. Ghostwatch (1992) was broadcast ‘as live' on BBC 1, on Halloween night in 1992, and saw TV stalwarts Michael Parkinson and Sarah Greene trying to prove the existence of the paranormal by taking a camera crew to ‘the most haunted house in Britain'. While the show documented the Early family's suffering at the hands of Mr Pipes, the poltergeist, the real story began after the show's broadcast, where tens of thousands felt duped by its immaculate recreation of 1990s live broadcasting tropes. We break down an underrated shout for the most influential horror movie of all time, discuss a directorial tour-de-force that left a nation unable to trust some of its most beloved presenters, ponder the various reasons for the furore that followed its broadcast and wonder whether Ghostwatch could ever be made today. All of which leads to one question: How would you survive? Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: the studio's...completely dark. Just... just blackness. Next time on the main feed, we're watching Censor (2021), while on the Patreon we're looking at cult classic Possession (1981).
It's #thinman, aka Episode 15 from Supernatural Season 9 and 15. We are here for the return of the Ghostfacers. Liz tells the story of Ghostwatch, the British paranormal mockumentary.
The BBC television special GHOST WATCH is unironically amazing—like it's really, really good. So why are Steve and Justin talking about this paranormal phenomenon from 1990? Because the aftermath of this fake live broadcast is one of the worst and most tragic disasters they have ever covered. It's a story that has to be heard to be believed. So turn out the lights, get cozy in your glory hole, and if you hear something strange... it's just a British actor accidentally doing a Jeff Goldblum impression...CHECK OUT GHOST WATCH HERE: https://archive.org/details/Ghostwatchhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-_t7Ww78aMFollow us on Instagram to keep updated about our monthly live shows!Check out more from Justin here: justindodd.rocks Check out more from Steve here: stevejhward.com drinkgenies.com

MaXXXine (2024) concludes Ti West's X trilogy, following Maxine Minx in her journey to Hollywood stardom. But as she's pursued by a mysterious leather-clad stalker, it's not long before Maxine's friends and colleagues start turning up dead. Is Maxine's bloody past catching up to her, or is something even more sinister at play? We break down an uneven conclusion to a nonetheless excellent horror movie trilogy, the gigawatt star power of Mia Goth, the corrupting influence of various forms of media across fifty years of American history, the dos and don'ts of car surveillance and the potential legality of head-crushing. All of which leads to one question: How would you survive? Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: Do you know what happened to the last person who tried to kill me? I crushed her fucking head. Next time we journey back to a golden moment in British TV history with Ghostwatch (1992).
Ricky is back with a list of the best moves to watch throughout the month, leading up to The spookiest of nights. These 10 movies are chosen specifically to get you in the mood. Grab your popcorn and blanket, turn off the lights, and get ready to be Halloweenified, dear Denizens!!!
Happy Spooptober! We're starting out the spookiest month of the year with one of the most controversial TV movies of all time: GHOSTWATCH. On Halloween night in 1992, the BBC broadcast a mockumentary ghost hunt show complete with real news presenters, staged viewer calls, and scares aplenty. But when more than half of the viewers missed the opening credits, they assumed it was real, and Britain was in full panic. Our next Spooptober episode will be on NIGHT OF THE DEMONS.And look out for a special collab episode with CINEDICATE TV AND FILM PODCAST on the newly released THE SUBSTANCE.Stay spoopy ya'll!Timestamps:0:00:00 Disclaimer0:00:42 Intro0:02:30 Hellos0:03:13 Big Announcement0:06:40 Ghostwatch0:12:44 Casting0:15:28 Based On0:20:53 Childhood Trauma0:25:06 Director and Writer0:32:43 Watershed Moment0:34:13 Spoilers0:34:26 Social Worker's Call0:38:58 31/100:43:36 The Finale0:47:00 Tone0:49:43 Does Pipes Have A Doppelganger?0:52:58 Pros/Cons0:56:13 Sarah's Sensitivity0:57:21 Would You Want To Be Able To See Ghosts?0:58:03 Rating0:58:25 GGR0:59:29 Next Episode: Night of the Demons1:00:56 PSA: Please Register To Vote1:05:12 GoodbyesThe Grindhouse Girls Podcast is created by Katie Dale and Brit Ray and edited by N.
