Hi. How are you? This is Guilherme with another episode of the Inglês Diário podcast. Hope you are having a fantastic week. We are only one day away from the World Cup, and I'm pretty excited about it! How are you feeling about the World Cup so close?Today we are going to do something a little bit different. Instead of telling you a story about something that happened to me, I want you to use your imagination. I want to put you in a tricky situation, and I want to see what you would do. Are you ready?Picture this: You just got a new job. It's a great company, it pays really well, and you want to make a good impression. You've been working there for about six months. Then, your boss calls you into his office and says, “Hey, this Saturday we are having a mandatory team-building event. Everyone from the department has to be there, no exceptions. The CEO is flying in.”But here is the problem. This exact same Saturday is your absolute best friend's wedding. And you are not just a guest... you are the best man, or the maid of honor. You have to be there. In this scenario, my friend, you are caught between a rock and a hard place. Caught between a rock and a hard place.Imagine you are standing in a narrow space. On your left side, there is a giant, heavy rock. On your right side, there is a hard, solid wall. You can't move left, and you can't move right. You are stuck. When we say someone is between a rock and a hard place, it means they have to choose between two very bad options. If you go to the work event, your best friend will never forgive you. If you go to the wedding, your boss might fire you. There is no easy way out. You are stuck between a rock and a hard place. But, you know... you can't just disappear. You can't be in two places at once. Eventually, you have to make a decision, even if it hurts. You are just going to have to bite the bullet. To bite the bullet. Bite, B-I-T-E, the bullet, B-U-L-L-E-T.This expression has a really interesting history. Back in the old days, hundreds of years ago, before doctors had anesthesia to block pain, if a soldier got injured on the battlefield and needed surgery, the doctor would give him a literal bullet to bite down on. Biting the bullet helped the soldier endure the extreme pain.Today, obviously, we don't use it for surgery. But we use it when you have to force yourself to do something very difficult, unpleasant, or scary that you can no longer avoid. You accept the bad situation, you bite the bullet, and you just do it. So, in our scenario, you have to bite the bullet and make the painful phone call—either to your boss to say you won't be at the event, or to your best friend to say you are missing the wedding. So, my question for you today is: What would you do in this scenario? Which bullet would you bite? Would you choose the job or the wedding? And more importantly, have you ever been caught between a rock and a hard place in real life?Leave a comment. See you next time, bye!Key expressions:Bit the bullet: tomar coragem e fazer algoBetween a rock and a hard place: ter duas opções que são ruins

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly called off a further major strike on Iran on Monday following Israel's initial retaliation to Iran's ballistic missile barrages overnight Sunday. With IAF fighter jets on the runway, Trump instructed the premier to deescalate Israel’s fight with the Islamic Republic. Later, the president explained to a BBC reporter, "If I tell him to do something, he does it." On today's episode, we unwind the political ripple effect of Trump's assertion and ask whether Israel is truly still operating as a sovereign nation even as its hands are increasingly tied when combating the terror threat on its northern border. Additionally, as Iran appears to consider Lebanon its own vassal state that is intrinsically embedded in the Trump ceasefire negotiations, we talk through the initial goals of the war launched on February 28 and assess the Jewish state's current standing. In the second half of the program, Horovitz gives a broad-strokes picture of where political parties lie in recent polling -- while it's still anyone's game -- as Israel gears up for elections a few months away. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Berly and LA dig into one of Season 9's most unexpectedly hilarious episodes, and yes, the title is exactly as suggestive as it sounds.A string of disappearances leads the Winchesters to a church abstinence group, where Sam and Dean sign up as born-again virgins (for investigative purposes, obviously). Dean's group therapy monologue alone is worth the price of admission, and the ladies of the APU would agree. The monster of the week turns out to be a goddess with a thousand years of grudges, excellent taste in cardigans, and a very specific appetite.Jody Mills is back and absolutely not here for anyone's nonsense. Sam's mysterious health situation gets harder to ignore. And Dean keeps almost telling the truth. There's lore, there's gore, there's a fallout shelter, and there are some truly unfortunate fingernails. Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place In this energetic and transparent message, guest speaker Pastor Tim Salley addresses the heavy burdens, lingering hurts, and paralyzing environments that keep believers trapped. Drawing from extreme survival stories and the direct commands of Jesus, he challenges the congregation to stop managing their symptoms and execute the hard, necessary decisions required to walk in absolute spiritual victory. Key Highlights The Reality of the Local Revival: Reflecting on a recent camping trip that spontaneously transformed into an outdoor church service where eight people were baptized in a cold mountain lake, Pastor Tim emphasizes that despite cultural narratives of a "great falling away," a genuine hunger for the raw gospel is spreading. The Origin of the Phrase: The expression "stuck between a rock and a hard place" dates back to early 20th-century American miners. They faced a collapsing roof (the rock) on one side and sudden unemployment and starvation (the hard place) on the other. Physical vs. Spiritual Amputation: Pastor Tim references historic survival accounts—such as hiker Aron Ralston, who spent 127 hours pinned by an 800-pound boulder—where individuals willingly severed a limb to preserve their lives. He observes the tragic irony that while people will desperately cut a physical limb to live, Christians routinely struggle to cut off toxic mindsets, sinful habits, or old hurts to save their spiritual lives. Owning Your Part of the Mess: True freedom requires complete, brutal honesty with oneself. Sharing a vulnerable confession about his wild youth—including reckless driving, jumping railroad tracks, and talking back to his father—Pastor Tim points out that breakthrough only occurred when he stopped projecting blame onto his upbringing and owned his behavior. Abundant Life is Inside Out: The true abundant life promised by Christ is not measured by material wealth, but by the structural alignment of the human heart: righteousness, joy, and peace in the Holy Ghost. The Anatomy of Breakthrough: Severing What Binds You [ The Bound Believer ] ───► Focuses on outward symptoms (Managing the hurt) │ ▼ [ The Shift in Perspective ] ───► Ownership of personal choices (No more blame) │ ▼ [ The Knife of Jesus ] ───► Severe, immediate cutting away of the snare │ ▼ [ Absolute Transformation ] ───► Abundant walking in Righteousness, Joy, & Peace Trapped Lifestyle (The Hard Place) The Tool of Release Abundant Outcome (The Rock) Wallowing in the Past: Staying static in old trauma, rehearsing grievances, and expecting rescue without movement. Forgetting and Pressing: Actively severing access to mental triggers and old habits. Hinds' Feet: Spiritual stability to step securely onto high places without sliding backward. Blaming Outer Sources: Pointing exclusively to parental failures, bad environments, or past enemies. Personal Ownership: Taking responsibility for personal choices, current language, and inner character. Restoration: Divine reconciliation of broken hearts, fractured homes, and stalled marriages. Managing the Symptoms: Seeking human programs or temporary coping mechanisms to dull behavioral sins. Holy Spirit Relationship: Submitting the inner man entirely to the active residence of God's Spirit. Fiery Bones: An unquenchable, internal fire that naturally burns away worldly addictions. Core Message: Your Turn to Cut Free Pastor Tim presents a direct diagnostic question to the modern church: How long will you remain paralyzed in a toxic condition before choosing to cut yourself loose? God has already positioned Himself as the unmovable Rock of Ages; the execution of the next move relies entirely on a willful choice to step out of the snare. "He doesn't set you free while you refuse to walk away from it... Today is the day that I get set free from this. Today is the day that I am going to walk free from this. Forgetting the past and pressing on toward the mark of the prize of the high calling." Scriptural Foundation Matthew 5:29-30: Christ's intense, hyperbolic command that if a right eye or right hand causes a stumble, it must be cast off entirely to save the whole person. Exodus 15:6 & Psalm 118:16: Biblical context displaying the "right hand" as the absolute representation of ultimate power and exalted strength. Romans 14:17: Definition of the true abundant life: "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Habakkuk 3:19 & Philippians 3:13-14: The prophetic promise of receiving hinds' feet to confidently tread upon the high places by forgetting what lies behind. Prophetic Words and Action Steps During the altar call, a distinct prophetic word was delivered regarding breakthroughs over specific mountains and personal adjustments: Own Your Vocabulary: Shift your inner narrative immediately. Cease grumbling, crying, and whispering behind the bushes; raise your hands high and speak life over the spaces where you previously felt robbed. Expect Turning Points: Trust that the adjustments occurring behind the scenes will cause demonic warfare to slide off the mountain. What the enemy manufactured for absolute destruction, God is twisting for your ultimate good. Commit to Wednesday Table Fellowship: Pastor Rhonda Davis emphasized that deeper theological instruction and spiritual stabilization take place around the tables on Wednesday nights. The church will begin a comprehensive, transformative study through the Book of Psalms in the second week of June. Use this as your step out from behind the rock. "Thanks for listening! Doing real emotional work is physically exhausting. When Mike logs on for this session, the very first thing he shares is that he feels completely "taxed and jumbled". He is asking his brain to operate in an emotional language it was never taught to speak. Today, we trace that language barrier straight back to its origin. We dive into Mike's family history, examining the impact of a grandfather who was "straight business" and a father who was "avoidant to the core emotionally". In that environment, Mike learned early on that you don't feel things—you brush them off, distract yourself, and simply "go with the flow" to keep the peace. But as we peel back the layers of a recent conflict, we uncover a completely different truth about how this impacts his marriage. Mike's passivity wasn't an act of pushing Rachel away; it was a desperate, silent attempt to invite her in and beg her to help him manage a lifetime of fear. The moment he is able to articulate this fear instead of weaponizing it, Rachel doesn't pull away—her empathy system opens wide. Follow Julie Menanno on social media @thesecurerelationship. On this episode of Talking Guitars, we remember legendary producer Jack Douglas, who has passed away at the age of 80. Throughout his incredible career, Douglas worked with some of rock's biggest names, including Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, John Lennon, Blue Öyster Cult, Patti Smith, and the New York Dolls. Born in the Bronx, New York, Douglas started out as a folk musician before attending the Institute of Audio Research and landing a job at the legendary Record Plant — first as a janitor, then quickly rising to become one of rock's most respected engineers and producers. Along the way, he contributed to classic recordings by The Who, Miles Davis, Alice Cooper, and many more. Douglas is perhaps best known for producing Aerosmith's classic albums Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic, Rocks, Draw the Line, Rock in a Hard Place, Honkin' on Bobo, and Music from Another Dimension! He also engineered and co-produced landmark albums including John Lennon's Imagine, Double Fantasy, and Milk and Honey, while contributing to legendary records like The Who's Who's Next and Cheap Trick's self-titled debut album. His close relationship with Aerosmith even earned him the nickname “the sixth member” of the band, and his influence on rock music can still be heard today. Join us as we look back at the life, music, and legacy of one of rock's most influential producers.

We were told the science was settled—until we looked closer, and it was abundantly clear that we're missing long-term data on vaccines, a fact that should concern every parent. Nicolle Wallace covers the surging inflation and gas prices because of the war in Iran. Not only is the war affecting the United States, but it is also affecting airports in Europe, who are warning that they might face a jet fuel shortage if oil can't pass through the Strait of Hormuz. It is a full scale global economic crisis, and it has no signs of winding down any time soon with Iran still maintaining its chokehold on the Strait. Later, Rev. Al Sharpton and Michael Feinberg join Nicolle to talk about Melania Trump's bombshell address to the press yesterday where she denied the ‘lies' about her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Is Dr. Mike IGNORING SCIENCE ON PURPOSE!? Dr. Joel "Gator" Warsh joins Brian Nichols to reveal the uncomfortable truth about childhood vaccines and why the collapse of public health trust is happening right now. We dive deep into the data that mainstream influencers like Dr. Mike ignore, specifically regarding the "one-size-fits-all" CDC schedule and the lack of studies on vaccinated vs. unvaccinated children. Dr. Gator explains why the medical establishment's refusal to debate—or even acknowledge—valid parental concerns about side effects and the sheer volume of shots is driving families away from modern medicine entirely. We expose the reality of informed consent and the financial incentives keeping the system broken. You need to hear this blueprint for navigating your child's health without fear or coercion. Dr. Gator breaks down the specific research gaps in autism studies, why the "anti-vax" label is a weapon used to silence nuance, and how parents can finally take back control from a system that demands blind obedience. This week, Scott sat down with his Lawfare colleagues Tyler McBrien, Michael Feinberg, and Ariane Tabatabai to talk through the week's big news in national security, including:“Between Iraq and a Hard Place.” Iran is engaged in perhaps its most serious bout of domestic unrest in a decade, spurred on by a failing economy and the seeming political weakness of the regime after its devastating military conflict with Israel and the United States this past summer. But the regime has struck back viciously, cutting off global media and communications access even as it has engaged in a vicious and violent campaign of repression that may have already led to as many as between 2,000 and 12,000 fatalities. That has led, among other things, to threats from the Trump administration that it may intervene militarily against the regime. What should we be making of this development? What does it mean for the future of Iran, and what role might the United States play in that future?“A Slippery Slope.” ICE's increasingly provocative immigration enforcement actions came to a violent head last week in Minneapolis, when ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed driver and possible protest participant Renee Good. While the White House has sought to frame Good as a “domestic terrorist” who threatened Ross, videos of the incident instead suggest that her conduct came nowhere close to the standard normally required for the use of lethal force. The FBI is now reportedly investigating Good's widow for ties to activist groups, an effort that led several career federal prosecutors to quit this week. How effective are the administration's attempts to shape the truth likely to prove? “Green with Envy.” Diplomatic representatives from Denmark and Greenland are meeting with senior administration officials as we record to discuss a way forward on Greenland, the self-governing and all-but-independent Danish territory that President Trump has openly coveted since returning to office, up to and including the threat of military force to acquire it. How serious should the world take these threats? Where is the competition over Greenland likely to lead?In object lessons, Tyler is setting the mood with a recommendation of Way Dynamic's album “Massive Shoe.” Mike is boosting our moods with a preview of “One Movie After Another,” a retrospective of Paul Thomas Anderson films, coming soon to the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring. Scott is setting some mood lighting with his Xenomorph-like bedtime reading light from Glocusent. And Ari is getting moody with a revisit of Pedro Almodóvar's “Pain and Glory.”To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare.
