Berly and LA dive into Supernatural Season 8, Episode 16: "Remember the Titans" - where Greek mythology crashes into Montana and nobody knows what mountain they're talking about! The episode opens with a drunk driver hitting a cute moppy-haired guy walking along the road. The victim dies, gets his liver pecked out by a bird of prey, then inconveniently resurrects and walks away - leaving one very confused cop muttering about zombies. Sam and Dean investigate and discover the resurrectee is Shane (actually Prometheus), who has no memory but knows he dies every single day and comes back to life.Things get complicated when a mystery woman attacks Shane in his motel room, easily tossing the Winchesters aside. She vanishes after declaring herself his "worst enemy," and Shane promptly has a heart attack and dies again. Enter Haley, a woman who found Shane after an avalanche seven years ago and has been searching for him ever since - because he died during sex with her (traumatizing) and left her pregnant with Oliver, a seven-year-old who inherited daddy's daily death curse.Sam's research reveals Shane is actually Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire for humanity. The attacker was Artemis, daughter of Zeus, who's been forced to kill the love of her life repeatedly as punishment. The hosts loved Artemis's character and weapons, wishing she'd gotten more screen time than the "boring" male characters. The gang heads to the Men of Letters bunker (still won't move Kevin in from that houseboat though!) and summons Zeus using cheap jewelry-grade fulgurite from a crystal shop - no breaking and entering required this time! Zeus shows up looking suave and menacing, but Haley immediately breaks the trap trying to save Oliver, because apparently she can't wait five minutes to see if their bluff works.Zeus delights in torturing both Prometheus and Oliver, but Sam cleverly deduces Artemis has feelings for Prometheus. After some quality gossip-girl tactics, Artemis decides to kill her dad instead. Zeus uses Prometheus as a human shield, but Prometheus sacrifices himself by pushing the arrow through to hit Zeus, killing them both in a lightning explosion. The episode ends with a hunter's funeral for Prometheus (Artemis peaced out with Zeus's body), and Sam finally admitting to Dean that he's worried about surviving the trials. Dean puts on an optimistic front but privately prays to Cas to watch over his brother, showing he's actually terrified Sam won't make it.The hosts appreciated the Greek mythology angle and loved Artemis, though they noted Oliver never spoke until the very end and Haley kept asking "what curse?" despite clear explanations. A solid episode that balanced action with character development while moving the trial storyline forward."Who do we know that has Jason Bourne fighting skills, dies a lot, and has a history with violent women?" "I don't know. You."Sources:https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Remember_the_Titans https://www.greeka.com/greece-myths/prometheus/Send us your review!Support the showTHANK YOU FOR LISTENING!Please rate and review Denim-Wrapped Nightmares wherever you get your podcasts! Berly and LA tackle Supernatural Season 8, Episode 15: "Man's Best Friend with Benefits" - and from the title alone, you can guess why the hosts were NOT having it.The episode opens with a cop murdering people in gruesome neck-exploding fashion, only to reveal he's been having prophetic dreams about the killings. Enter James Frampton (yes, with embroidered initials JMF), a witch-cop whose beautiful Doberman familiar Portia can also take human form. And yes, they're sleeping together, which had the hosts immediately uncomfortable with the entire premise.Sam and Dean get called in by Portia (who literally trots into their motel room as a dog, then transforms into a woman in a LBD and heels) to help James, who thinks he's murdering people in his sleep. The investigation leads them into the witch community, complete with a bar featuring telepathic chess and a suspicious character literally named "Philippe La Chat" (the cat) - because subtlety is dead. The hosts were thrown from the start by Three Stooges references they had to Google, and spent the episode increasingly bothered by the familiar/witch romantic relationship dynamics. The case reveals James is being controlled by his jealous witch friend Spencer, who's upset about the forbidden familiar-witch romance and uses Phillipe to frame James. After a witch fight involving some awkward special effects, the boys use one of Bobby's witch-killing spells to take out Spencer. The episode ends with James and Portia driving off together (with her inexplicably in dog form in the front seat) to start over somewhere new.The real payoff comes in the final scene where Dean admits he trusts Sam to handle the trials after experiencing some hell visions, leading to their "we'll do this together" moment. Sam then coughs up blood and hides it from Dean, setting up future drama. The hosts called this one of their least favorite episodes, citing excessive exposition, problematic relationship dynamics, and a general disconnect from the show's usual tone. Even the laundry basket pratfall that made them laugh couldn't save this one. Written by seasoned TV veterans, it felt like a missed assignment that just didn't work within the Supernatural universe."By the way, I gotta hand it to you. It's been 15 hours since Portia mentioned her night with James, and not one bestiality joke out of you."Sources:https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Man%27s_Best_Friend_With_Benefits https://k-oconnell.medium.com/familiars-what-they-are-and-how-to-get-one-a5869189912fSend us your review!Support the showTHANK YOU FOR LISTENING!Please rate and review Denim-Wrapped Nightmares wherever you get your podcasts! It's a sibling special! Noah, Sam and August are joined by three of their siblings to talk about our newest crew of teens being manipulated by the adult hunter in their lives. We talk about parallels between Krissy and Dean, Aiden being shady as ****, and Victor's creepy rationale for his kid hunter organization. We also discuss consent, autonomy, and innocence- where it's lacking in this episode, who is taking advantage of that, and what it means for these kid hunters and their future choices. Thanks to Ezra, Sy and Theo for joining us this week!Hear more Sy and Theo on Observing the Archives: https://open.spotify.com/show/5vHOYiadbu9FudKEyL522l?si=dt6nkWkYQtSxLD-Y5hc4WQAnd This, Your Living Kiss (fanfic rec): https://archiveofourown.org/works/18083927This episode discusses Supernatural Season 8, Episode 18, Freaks and Geeks, through the theme of Innocence. Berly and LA dive into Supernatural Season 8, Episode 13: "Everybody Hates Hitler" - where Nazi necromancers meet their match in the form of a very tall, very frustrated golem!Sam and Dean finally unlock the Men of Letters bunker using Henry's puzzle box, discovering their new supernatural headquarters complete with amazing water pressure (Dean approves). Meanwhile, they investigate the spontaneous combustion death of Rabbi Bass, which leads them to his grandson Aaron - a Hebrew school dropout who's accidentally inherited a 6'9" clay protector he has no idea how to control. The case involves the Thule Society, Nazi necromancers who've been reanimating their dead members for decades. After some mistaken gay flirtation at a bar (Dean's mortified reaction was priceless), the boys team up with Aaron and his golem to track down the remaining undead Nazis using a stolen red ledger. The real star is the Aaron/golem relationship - think supernatural odd couple, with the ancient protector constantly frustrated by his new owner who "dines on swine" and smoked the instruction manual while rolling joints. When Aaron finally steps up and takes proper ownership, even the hosts wanted to write fanfiction about their dynamic.Berly and LA loved this Ben Edlund-written episode for its perfect blend of humor and heart, the introduction of their bunker home base, and the adorable guest characters they're desperately hoping return in future episodes."Yeah, grandparents, mom, dad, truckload of cousins, the whole family was lousy for it. But we never had a golem."Sources:https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Everybody_Hates_Hitler https://prague.eu/en/golem-of-prague/Send us your review!Support the showTHANK YOU FOR LISTENING!Please rate and review Denim-Wrapped Nightmares wherever you get your podcasts! Dragons, Virgins, and Cringe-Worthy One-Liners: A Supernatural AdventureWelcome to this episode of Gank That Drank: A Supernatural Drinking Game Podcast! Join hosts Krissy Lenz and Nate McWhortor as they dive into Supernatural Season 6 Episode 12 "Like A Virgin"—the much-anticipated dragon episode that Supernatural fans constantly reference. After Sam's soul is restored and Dean's heroic complex kicks into overdrive, the boys face mythical beasts, questionable pickup lines, and enough cringe moments to fuel a drinking game. The Soul-Crushing Setup & Dragon DramaThe episode picks up with Sam finally getting his soul back from Hell, complete with Death's mysterious wall keeping those traumatic memories locked away. But there's no time for emotional processing when virgin girls start disappearing and getting "snatched" across the country. The investigation leads to everyone's favorite mythical creatures—dragons—who apparently haven't been seen for 700 years but are now collecting virgins and gold like some twisted fantasy game. Dean channels his inner knight by attempting to wield the legendary Sword of Brunswick, though his approach involves more C4 explosives than chivalry.Lies, Maps, and Awkward Not-HugsThis episode delivers peak brother dynamics as Dean desperately tries to protect Sam from the truth about his soulless year, leading to a drinking game goldmine of lies between the boys. Bobby struggles with his own feelings about Sam's return, Castiel remains endearingly naive, and there's an abundance of maps scattered throughout their research montages. The hosts particularly enjoyed counting the cringe-worthy moments and pop culture references, including Dean's Comic-Con quip and various Batman jokes that definitely didn't age well:Dragon fight sequences that left viewers wanting more actual dragon transformationsDr. Visyak's introduction as Bobby's mysterious contact with serious chemistry potentialThe revelation of Eve as the "Mother of All" setting up the season's big badDrinking game rules included shots for awkward not-hugs and sips for every "dragons" mentionOver 50+ drinks total for players following the full rulesetFinal Thoughts & Next Episode PreviewWhile "Like A Virgin" delivers on Supernatural mythology and character development, both hosts agreed the dragon execution felt budget-limited despite the episode's ambition. The real treasure lies in Sam's emotional return and the setup for bigger threats ahead. Next episode ventures into Season 12 territory with "Regarding Dean"—promising bunny encounters, witch drama, and what the hosts describe as "top notch work from Jensen Ackles" in a frequently memed episode.Connect with Gank That DrankCatch Krissy Lenz and Nate McWhortor live at Neighborhood Comedy Theatre in Mesa, Arizona, where they'll buy you a drink at the Sacred Pint if you mention you're a listener. Welcome back to another episode of Denim Wrapped Nightmares, where Berly and LA tackle Supernatural Season 8, Episode 12: "As Time Goes By" - and this one's a real family reunion! What Went Down:The episode kicks off in 1958 with a dapper gentleman in a trench coat saying goodbye to his sleeping son. This mystery man heads to what looks like a secret society meeting, only to find demon Abaddon (possessing the lovely Josie) murdering everyone in sight. Armed with a mysterious box and some blood magic, he creates a portal to escape... and crashes right through Sam and Dean's motel closet in 2013! Plot twist: it's Henry Winchester - John's dad and the boys' grandfather they never knew existed. The Big Reveals:Henry Winchester is alive! Well, he was. John's father didn't abandon his family - he time-traveled to protect a supernatural artifactMen of Letters exist! Think Hogwarts library meets Monster Hunters Anonymous - they're the brains to hunters' brawnAbaddon is terrifying - A Knight of Hell handpicked by Lucifer himself, and she's got style (love that devil-themed t-shirt theft)That box is important - Contains the key to every supernatural object, scroll, and spell ever collected. Talk about your ultimate supernatural storage unit! The Family Drama:Henry learns his "legacy" grandkids are just lowly hunters (the horror!), while Dean gets to process having yet another family member who prioritized "the greater good" over being there for their kid. The apple doesn't fall far from the Winchester tree of abandonment issues. The final showdown features Henry getting gutted (not in the fun way), but managing to trap Abaddon with a devil's trap carved into a bullet before Dean decapitates her. Henry dies, but not before telling the boys he's proud of the men John raised.Memorable Moments:Henry's Houdini handcuff trick that had everyone confusedThe "Mayans were wrong" joke about 2013Dean checking out the comic book store clerk (memorable enough that Abaddon noticed)Henry's magical sleeping powder that worked VERY well on the shop ownerThe coordinates to the "safest place on earth" - next stop on the Winchester world tour!Gore Counter:Relatively tame episode - some bleeding eyes, throat slitting, and Henry's stomach situation, but nothing too splooge-worthy for our hosts' official count. The Setup:The boys now have coordinates to a supernatural safe house that supposedly contains every magical artifact ever collected. Will this be their supernatural Costco? Can they finally help Kevin with those pesky demon tablets? And will they ever call Castiel for backup in these life-or-death situations? The hosts loved Henry's character, Abaddon's fabulous villainy, and the family legacy revelations. A solid episode that adds new layers to Winchester family history while setting up future adventures!"One of you must know John Winchester." Welcome back to another episode of Denim Wrapped Nightmares, where Berly and LA dive into Supernatural Season 8, Episode 11: "LARP and the Real Girl" - and yes, it's exactly as nerdy as it sounds! What Went Down:Our episode kicks off with poor Ed the accountant getting literally torn apart by invisible horses (talk about a rough night!), followed by Lance projectile vomiting blood all over an interrogation room mirror. The Winchesters investigate and discover both deaths are connected to a LARPing group called Moondoor, where everyone dresses up as elves and orcs and takes their foam sword battles very seriously. The Good Stuff:Charlie's back! Our favorite hacker queen is now ruling over a bunch of LARPers and looking fabulous doing itDean gets fully costumed up and is way into it (that Braveheart speech though!)Sam meets a flirty elf in the tech tent (and maybe visits her tent later, according to Berly's headcanon)The mustache-sporting sheriff who's just happy to let the FBI handle the weird stuffThe Monster:Turns out the real villain is Boltar the Furious (and boy, is he ever furious), who's been using a captive fairy named Gilda to murder anyone who gets too close to his beloved Queen Charlie. His evil plan? Kill everyone, wipe Charlie's memory, and force her to make him king. Therapy would've been cheaper, buddy. The Resolution:Charlie saves the day by destroying the spell book, freeing Gilda and turning Boltar's real sword back into harmless foam. Dean promptly punches the creep's lights out because he was SO done with this whole situation. The fairy tribunal takes Boltar away (and honestly, we'd watch that episode), and our heroes join an epic LARPing battle because sometimes you just need to have a little fun.Gore Counter:2 blood splooges One extremely disturbing quartering sceneLance's face literally bleeding from every orifice (yikes!)The hosts loved the Dean-Charlie friendship, the surprisingly impressive Moondoor setup, and Dean's complete transformation from LARP-mocker to enthusiastic participant. A fun, lighter episode that proves even monster hunters need to let loose sometimes!"What I can't shut this down, it's good to be queen!" - Queen CharlieSources:https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/LARP_and_the_Real_Girl https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2022/12/19/are-fairies-real-origin/8121470001/https://www.awaywiththefairies.ie/how-do-you-attract-fairies-to-your-house/Send us your review!Support the showTHANK YOU FOR LISTENING!Please rate and review Denim-Wrapped Nightmares wherever you get your podcasts! Bobby Singer's Unfinished Business: A Ghostly Good TimeKrissy Lenz and Nate McWhortor dive into Supernatural Season 7, Episode 19 "Of Grave Importance"—a haunting Bobby-centric episode that aired on April 20, 2012. When the Winchester brothers investigate mysterious disappearances at the supposedly haunted Van Ness house, they discover more than just restless spirits lurking in the shadows.A Hunter's Funeral and Ghost PoliticsThis episode serves as a beautiful showcase for Jim Beaver's acting prowess as Bobby Singer navigates the afterlife with his characteristic wit and determination. The hosts explore how Bobby's ghostly presence creates both touching moments and comedic gold, from his failed attempts at moving objects Swayze-style to his frustration with being ignored by the living. Krissy and Nate particularly appreciate the episode's unique perspective on what happens when hunters become the very things they once laid to rest. The Van Ness house becomes a supernatural boarding house where ghosts from different eras coexist, each slowly deteriorating over time. The episode's villain, Whitman Van Ness, proves that even in death, some people never stop being terrible. The discussion touches on how Supernatural uses this ghost-heavy episode to explore themes of letting go, the natural order of things, and what it means to truly help the people you love.Drinking Game Highlights & Episode GemsSmooch City: The episode opens with teen romance turned deadly—a classic Supernatural moveSwayze References: Multiple Ghost movie callbacks that earn the premium drinking penaltiesBobby's Catchphrases: "Balls" and "idgits" make their expected appearances throughoutFoxhole Confessions: Everyone apparently had a thing with Annie Hawkins at some pointChain Restaurant Philosophy: Dean's existential musings about Taco Bell consistency across AmericaFinal ThoughtsThe hosts crown this a standout Bobby episode that balances emotional weight with supernatural fun. While Sam believes Amy deserves mercy since she only killed to save her sick son, Dean makes a shocking decision behind Sam's back that raises questions about character consistency and morality in the Supernatural universe.Krissy and Nate don't hold back their criticism of certain aspects, particularly questioning Dean's uncharacteristic actions and the problematic medical details (that cast over Dean's jeans!). They also highlight the episode's exploration of moral gray areas, the "freak" identity both Sam and Amy share, and Dean's troubling interaction with Amy's son.Episode Highlights:Jensen Ackles' directorial debut for the seriesYoung Sam's first meeting with Amy and their connection as "freaks"The appearance of Jewel Staite as Amy Pond (a Doctor Who reference)Dean's questionable character decision that contradicts his growthIntroduction of Leviathans and their nacho cheese obsessionThe hosts' drinking game rules including "take a drink for Leviathans" and "take a shot for gank"Discussion of Dean's broken/dislocated leg and the problematic prop castBobby's rescue mission and cabin hideoutSam's hallucinations of Lucifer continuingThe hosts wrap up by previewing their next episode covering Season 11, Episode 23, "Alpha and Omega," and teasing bonus content about their top three sexiest monsters in pop culture for their members at TruStory FM.Whether you're a die-hard Supernatural fan or just enjoy drinking games with your TV shows, this podcast offers an entertaining deep dive into one of the series' most morally complex episodes.
