Paul & Amy pull off the highway for a short stay at 1960's proto-slasher masterwork Psycho. They dissect Alfred Hitchcock's artful use of misdirection, listen to Anthony Perkins' pre-Psycho pop single, and ask if there was any value in Gun Van Sant's controversial remake. Plus: Alexandre O. Philippe, the director of "78/52: Hitchcock's Shower Scene," discusses one of cinema's most infamous moments in detail. What do you think is in the warehouse at the end of Raiders Of The Lost Ark? Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Joseph: King of Dreams. A direct-to-video prequel to The Prince of Egypt, Joseph: King of Dreams retells the story of Joseph from the book of Genesis.  Led by his oldest brother Judah (Mark Hamill), Joseph (Ben Affleck) is sold into slavery as a prank. After cleaning floors, suffering in a pit, and explaining dreams, Joseph rises to prominence. Can he forgive his brothers when they need his help the most? Although it looks similar to The Prince of Egypt, Joseph: King of Dreams is a much cheaper affair. Neither the music or the story is as captivating, although there are moments of wonder in the dream sequences. A more intimate story by its nature, this movie tries its best and ends up waffling around. Things get moving once Joseph is sold off as a slave in Egypt.  Mat and Thrasher feel Deadpool 2 was a very good sequel emboldened by its more complicated story, greater variety of characters, and light tone.  Mat enjoys 78/52 Hitchcock's Shower Scene, an in-depth scholarly documentary on the infamous shower scene from Psycho. He also has enjoyed the antics of master impressionist Sour Shoes on The Howard Stern Show. Thrasher did not like revisiting Antz, finding it so boring he had to shut it off. He continues his voyage into the work of puppeteer Paul Fusco with the TV special A Far Out 4th; depsite some neat puppets, it too was a letdown.  Ratings for Joseph: King of Dreams: Mat: Sequel No Thrasher: Sequel Yes Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page The theme song to the Sequelcast is written and performed by Marc with a C. Movie Meltdown: Episode 435 This week we talk with filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe about his early pop culture interests and the influences that led to his specific documentary style. In particular, those that led him to direct his films The People vs. George Lucas, Doc of the Dead and 78/52: Hitchcock's Shower Scene. And as we realize we all come from the same international pop culture beginnings, we also discuss... Star Wars, Night of the Living Dead, Blade Runner 2049, Isle of Dogs, respecting the past, Charles Dickens, Rian Johnson, we don’t remember all the bad movies made, actively thinking about your role as a filmmaker, a tremendous amount of fun, the more you start peeling the layers, a completely unique phenomenon in pop culture, World War Z, Denis Villeneuve, he still has so many mysteries, I do what I do because I adore those films, Pontypool, testified before Congress against the colorization of black and white films, Ridley Scott, the idea of rules in any sub-genre, a passion for communication the discoveries I make, Danny Boyle, walking into this dysfunctional relationship, sloppy writing coming out of Hollywood, the great Dune that we deserve, Alfred Hitchcock, endless discovery, those principles don’t apply to him, George Romero, it’s a shell without the ghost, looking at how those great filmmakers work at the top of their game, Fido, 28 Days Later, restoring and releasing the original films, Scanners, the understanding of art and storytelling, Dawn of the Dead and did nerd rage really begin with Star Wars? “…you know, of course the behind the scenes stuff is really cool, and interesting, and it’s ‘how do movies get made’ you know… but I’m more interested really in the craft and the thinking of the filmmaker behind it.”  For more on Alexandre’s films go to: http://www.exhibitapictures.com/
