A thorough examination of Fr. Alexander Schmemann's views on the historical development and meaning of the Orthodox Church's prayer and worship. Fr. Michael Pomazansky, author of the popular book Orthodox Dogmatic Theology, provides an antidote to the poisonous stance of Fr. Alexander, which Fr. Seraphim Rose warns of, describing it as "the inevitable iconoclastic conclusions from Fr. Schmemann's already Protestant views". 0:00 Beginning 0:11 Introduction by Fr. Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen! As promised, today we continue to share a conversation we had with Professor Jean-Claude Larchet on May 3rd about his life and writings. In today's episode, Dr. Larchet discusses his book, Life After Death According to the Orthodox Tradition, of which a second edition was published last November by Holy Trinity Publications. Like all our books, Life After Death is available worldwide, wherever you prefer to buy your books. And, like many of our titles, Life After Death is also available on your preferred e-reading platform. A quick point of context: May 3rd, the day this interview was recorded, was also Radonitsa, or the Day of Rejoicing. This is the Tuesday of the second week of Pascha, a day particularly set aside for commemoration and prayers for reposed Orthodox Christians. And you'll hear a reference to that fact about ten minutes in. And with that, Jordanville Readings presents part 2 of our conversation with Professor Jean-Claude Larchet.-------------Psychiatrist Raymond Moody's book, Life after Life (Wikipedia)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_After_Life_(Moody_book)Life After Death According to the Orthodox Traditionhttps://www.holytrinitypublications.com/life-after-death-larchetRadonitsa (Wikipedia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radonitsa
Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen! Over the next few days, we'll be bringing you something a little different here on Jordanville Readings. On May 2-4, we were honored to host Professor Jean-Claude Larchet at Holy Trinity Monastery. Dr. Larchet is a French convert to the Faith and is one of the most well-known living Orthodox authors and patrologists (that is, scholars of the writings of the Holy Fathers) today. He graciously took some time during his visit to sit down with us and talk about his life as an Orthodox Christian, his studies and writings, and especially the books he has published recently under the banner of Holy Trinity Publications. We'll bring you that conversation in full over the next several episodes of Jordanville Readings. But it's worth mentioning here that Dr. Larchet's latest book to appear in English will be officially published in just a few days! It's called The Spiritual Roots of the Ecological Crisis. In it, Professor Larchet finds the roots of the global ecological crisis in a rejection of a truly Christian cosmology and proposes principles and actions deeply rooted in his Christian ethos that would allow mankind to restore and reinvigorate its relationship with nature. The book is available now in both paperback and digital formats, wherever books are sold! With that, here is part 1 of our conversation with Professor Jean-Claude Larchet.-----------*New book*: The Spiritual Roots of the Ecological Crisishttps://www.holytrinitypublications.com/larchet-ecologyElder Sergei of Vanves: Life and Teachings, by Jean-Claude Larchethttps://churchsupplies.jordanville.org/elder-sergei-of-vanves-life-and-teachings/Therapy of Spiritual Illnesses, by Jean-Claude Larchethttps://churchsupplies.jordanville.org/therapy-of-spiritual-illnesses-an-introduction-to-the-ascetic-tradition-of-the-orthodox-church/Mental Disorders and Spiritual Healinghttps://www.amazon.com/Mental-Disorders-Spiritual-Healing-Teachings/dp/159731045X?&_encoding=UTF8&tag=htpub-20
