Colossians 3:1-2 ESV If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
A few weeks ago, my wife's parents came to Indy for a quick visit. To my surprise they brought with them a photo album of Bekah when she was a little girl, beginning on the day she was born. As I flipped through the pages, my father-in-law was very careful to not leave out any of the details around each of the events that were pictured. In much the same way, as the author of Hebrews continues to flip through Jesus' photo album, he is going to carefully point out what makes Jesus' incarnation so incredible.
The secret to living is contentment. Nate finishes the book of Philippians and gives us four practical ways that we can practice contentment.
This fall, we are studying the last book of the Bible - Revelation. We begin this series with Senior Pastor Dr. Tyler Smiley speaking from chapter 5 about John's vision of worship in heaven.

What are some practical things to put into practice in our lives that will bring the peace of God? Nate unpacks Philippians 4:1-9 where Paul gives us 4 things for us to do. As we practice these 4 things: Reconciliation, Rejoicing, Praying, and Right Thinking, we progress toward Christ and recieve his peace.

Ryan Thomas, a missionary to Spain that we support, continues our series in Philippians. He challenges us to live our lives with eternity in focus. "But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:15 ESV
Discover the transformative power of finding your strength in God through this inspiring exploration of Psalm 84. What happens when life takes you through valleys of tears and seasons of difficulty? According to Scripture, those who draw their strength from the Lord experience three remarkable transformations.First, God gives you His perspective on your circumstances. Without changing your situation, He can transform your experience of it. The psalmist describes how valleys of weeping become springs of refreshment, and annoying early rains turn into pools of blessing. This isn't wishful thinking—it's the reality of seeing your circumstances through God's eyes. Through a personal story about working for a difficult boss, the speaker illustrates how a glimpse of God's purpose transformed his entire outlook despite unchanged external conditions.Second, those who find their strength in God develop remarkable perseverance. The psalm describes going "from strength to strength"—not just surviving difficulties but growing through them. The Hebrew text reveals a beautiful progression from physical stamina (az) to inner character and courage (chayil). When your strength comes from God, you keep moving forward despite obstacles. Finally, your priorities shift. Those who successfully navigate life's valleys make worship non-negotiable. Like David who said, "I will bless the Lord at all times," they understand that worship is where God meets them and imparts strength. Even at the height of worldly success, people like Paul Newman have discovered that fame and fortune cannot provide inner serenity—only connection with God satisfies our deepest longings. The good news? God has made a highway to our hearts through Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again to bring us directly to God. You don't need extraordinary courage to find happiness—you need Jesus. Connect with Him today and discover how He can transform your valleys into springs and your difficulties into opportunities for growth.Video available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3DNLXuOkeQ
The Character of Christ || Citizens of Heaven || Part 3 by Lighthouse Church Ottawa
Brandon walks us through Philippians 3:1-11 and the sobering reality that we can do nothing to gain our salvation and the awesomeness of Christ and the great exchange. "I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith." Philippians 3:9
Feeling drained by life's challenges? The ancient wisdom of Psalm 84 offers a surprising solution that goes beyond self-help techniques or motivational strategies. This powerful exploration of divine strength reveals why our own resources often fall short and how God provides an alternative source of power. Using the vivid analogy of spiritual hydraulics, we discover how God's strength works like a hydraulic jack—allowing us to lift burdens we could never manage on our own.Through the compelling story of King David's darkest moment—having lost everything, exhausted and facing mutiny from his own men—we witness the transformative power of "strengthening himself in the Lord." This wasn't a mere religious platitude but a practical spiritual principle that turned catastrophe into victory. The sermon unpacks the mysterious phrase "highways to Zion" from Psalm 84, revealing it as a divine connection between our hearts and God's presence. This spiritual highway, constructed through Christ's victory over sin and death, becomes the channel through which God's strength flows into our lives. The traffic on this highway? Our heartfelt praise and worship. We see this principle demonstrated dramatically when Paul and Silas, chained in a dungeon at midnight, begin singing hymns of praise—creating the perfect conditions for God's earthquake-power to manifest. Their chains fell off not through their own strength but through connecting with divine power through worship.Ready to experience strength beyond your own resources? This message provides practical insights for tapping into God's power through intentional, heart-engaged worship. Discover why "the joy of the Lord is your strength" isn't just a nice sentiment but a spiritual reality that can transform your most impossible situations.Video available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuiajLC4FuY
Will we laugh or work in heaven?
Nate continues in Philippians and asks us who are we doing life with? Who are the few we can count on when we go through hard things? And he challenges us by asking, are you that friend for someone else? Citizens of Heaven are those type of friends.
Pray, because your prayers one day will make Heaven go completely silent.

Heaven is his home, but it cannot contain Him. He fills the universe.
Today's scripture references are 1 Corinthians 3:11-14 and Revelation 4:9-11.
This morning we continue in our serries on Heaven
We are challenged by Philippians 2:3-5. "Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had."Nate digs into how we live this out and challenges us truly look at ourselves in the mirror, are we truly living with the "same attitude that Christ Jesus had." This what it means to be a citizen of Heaven.
“Heaven is God's Home. He has invited us to come live with Him.”
At the perfect time, God sent Jesus into the world. Jesus brought with Him the Kingdom of Heaven and He left it here while encouraging us to pursue, receive, proclaim, demonstrate and pray it. The Kingdom of Heaven is within us and we are here as carriers and dispensers of the robust domain of heaven, sharing it throughout the whole world before the end comes. "Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourself in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come to see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News." Philippians 1:27Nate breaks apart this verse and challenges us to examine our lives, to reflect on are we truly living as citizens of heaven?

Many expected the Messiah to come as an all-conquering king, yet Jesus came eating and drinking. Throughout the gospel, he was always going to, at, or coming from, a meal, and would even eat together with sinners and tax collectors. This highlights a critical part of Jesus's ministry, that of fellowship, or “koinonia” in Greek. By spending time with people, he allowed them to feel a sense of attachment and belonging, which is a far more powerful and genuine motivator than threat or force. Similarly, we should also embrace fellowship, and through "koinonia" bring light to the darkness in people's lives. --- Scripture: Luke 5: 27-33 Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners 27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. 29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Jesus Questioned About Fasting 33 They said to him, “John's disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.” Luke 7:33-35 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.' 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.' 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
In this second half of our two-part conversation, Austin DeArmond returns to the mic to continue exploring some of the most common myths and misunderstandings people have about heaven—especially those that surface in grief and longing after child loss. Austin brings deep scriptural knowledge and a tender heart shaped by personal experience as a bereaved dad himself.Together, we dive into thought-provoking questions like:Do our loved ones in heaven know what's happening on earth? Will our children still be children when we see them again? Is heaven really "up in the clouds"?Will everyone receive the same rewards in eternity? What is the “new earth,” and how does it differ from heaven as we typically imagine it?Will we grow, learn, and discover new things in heaven?Austin also offers biblical encouragement for bereaved parents, reminding us of the hope we have in Christ and the beautiful truth that the best is yet to come.Be Encouraged: Heaven is not just consolation—it's compensation. As Austin shares, our sorrows will not only be ended but fully mended in God's presence.
