The guys open with a conversation about what intrigues them most about the Husker defense, and what could look different scheme-wise with Butler at the reins and new assistants on staff.  Sam and Evan talk about what the Blackshirts were best at last season, where they need to improve, and debate whether Matt Rhule should change his strategy for defensive recruiting. The guys dive into some questions sent in by fans, including whether Nebraska will throw the ball more in 2025 behind an improved receiver core. The two also look at the position groups who are most mysterious and how they predict the depth charts will play out come fall.  The last fan question the guys answer is about how the House vs. NCAA settlement, and how, if approved, will affect football schools like Nebraska vs. basketball schools like Creighton. Will NU be able to spend as much on basketball transfers as CU if they also have to use part of the revenue-sharing pie on popular sports like volleyball?

Episode 38 of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast dives into a packed agenda, highlighting some of the biggest headlines in Nebraska football and the broader college football landscape. Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka kick things off by dissecting Nebraska's decision to promote John Butler to Defensive Coordinator. They analyze what this move means for the program, the defense's future direction, and Butler's potential to elevate the Blackshirts in the ever-competitive Big Ten. Next, they tackle the Transfer Portal frenzy, exploring its implications for Nebraska and how the Huskers can strategically navigate this new era of college football. With the 2025 Nebraska football schedule recently announced, Travis and Dr. Rob offer their insights on key matchups, challenges ahead, and how the team is shaping up for the seasons to come. But the conversation doesn't stop in Lincoln. The duo focuses on the somewhat shocking news of Bill Belichick's move to North Carolina, discussing how his NFL expertise might translate to the college game and what this means for a sport already during other coaching changes. They also take a broader look at coaching shakeups nationwide and how these moves reshape the competitive landscape. This week was a quasi-special episode because we didn't have a game to break down, but that doesn't mean we didn't have news. On the Corn Nation Overreaction this week, Greg, Hoss, and Jake discuss the additions made to the coaching staff last week as Dana Holgorsen and Phil Snow arrived in Lincoln. Snow is a defensive guru who has been coaching football for 47 years. He will provide Tony White with another seasoned perspective to get the Blackshirts, who are still very good - in the top 25 in most defensive categories, performing at a level they were at last year. Holgorsen comes to Nebraska with objective success at the collegiate level, being either Offensive Coordinator or Head Coach at schools with prolific offenses in the last 15 years. Will he be able to assist OC Marcus Satterfield in strategic game planning to result in that elusive sixth win and subsequent bowl eligibility? Our game predictions are at the end, and as our departed brother Brian Towle would say, “win the damn game.”

The trio then bring up Nebraska AD Troy Dannen's comments speaking out against hosting Big Ten Friday night games and consider a resolution to the issue of Michigan and Ohio State refusing Friday games. The show switches to basketball with the three debating what the Huskers will be strong in before Sam talks about why Fred Hoiberg decided to bring in so many big man transfers to alleviate a rebounding issue. Tonight please join us as Greg and Minnie discuss the victory over Colorado. The fun meet-up with all our friends from the Chatterfields. Greg's first game in Memorial Stadium and Minnies' true stalker stories. As well as the upcoming game on Saturday against the University of Northern Iowa Panthers. The Panthers and the Cornhuskers both have begun the 2024 football season with wins against their opponents. The Panthers are ranked #1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. However, Nebraska also got ranked this week after the 28-10 win against the Bufflalos on Saturday. Nebraska is #23 in the AP Poll which is the first time since 2019 that we have been ranked. Week 2 rankings from College Huddle have Nebraska up to #4 in the B1G conference, just behind Penn St., USC, and Ohio St. So how important is this game on Saturday against the FCS school? Of course, the W is always important but what we are looking at for Saturday specifically is how well Nebraska's Defense will stop the run with elite Running backs. UNI has racked up 386 rushing yards in their 2 games. Ty Robinson, Nash Hutmacher, Jamari Butler, Cam Lenhardt, Princewill Umanmielen, Mj Sherman, John Bullock, and Isaac Gifford will all have their chance to show us what makes the Blackshirts of Nebraska Football the deadliest defense in college football.

On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and Ken are joined in-studio by three very special guests: Ken's wife, Wanda and his cousin Janelle and her husband Chuck, who are visiting Nebraska for the first time. Supposed Penn State fans, Chuck and Janelle were in Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon for their very first major college football game. We talk with them both about their experience and then turn our attention to the game.    Dylan Raiola shined in his debut as the Huskers' starting QB, and the Blackshirts shut the Miners offense down after one quick strike drive to propel the Big Red to their very first opening week win since 2019. In fact it was also the first opening week at home since then as well.     We also debut a brand new segment on the show called Coach BA's Breakdown, where Coach Ben Aude, host of the BA Coach's Show breaks down two plays from Saturday's game: one on offense, and one on defense.    We hope you enjoyed this episode, and we would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. This week on the Corn Nation Overreaction show, which will be LIVE, we get to know Hoss' friend Jake. Apparently Jake really wanted to be on the show.  Don't get ideas...this is still a vehicle to launch Hoss to the next level of football analysis so that he eventually gets a job with the Big Ten Network. By that I mean...we don't usually have guests.  But we'll get to know Jake and learn about his Husker fandom and what e's been drinking to survive the last twenty years of Nebraska football.  As we turn our attention to the 2024 season, we will look at realistic expectations for Dylan Raiola as well as how we think the Blackshirts will fair in the second year of Tony White's defense.  Will Nebraska have a 1,000-yard rusher? Will they have a 1,000-yard receiver?  Could they have both?  How about one BOLD prediction for the upcoming year?  And last but not least, we'll hear Hoss and Jake's game predictions for every game of the season.

On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and Ken welcome back Justin Adams from the Nebraska Football channel at the Voice of College Football on YouTube. After the usual ad reads and general podcast housekeeping, Justin updates the Generation Red audience with the latest in recruiting…namely, the recent commitment from Isaiah Mozee, and supremely talented wide receiver from Missouri, who's father Jamal was recently added to the offensive staff. What implications - if any - could this flip of a highly touted Oregon commit mean for the likes of David Sanders, Jr? Or Michael Terry, now that Texas has landed their #1 target at receiver?   After that, it was time for the main topic; where based purely on speculation and the players getting the most buzz early in Fall Camp, the boys have a good time predicting the starters for the revamped Husker offense and their legacy quarterback, Dylan Raiola. The boys' picks rarely differed, and there was great peace and tranquility in the Realm of the Red. Then they shifted their focus to the Blackshirts, which featured a lot of different opinions on who should be awarded the coveted practice jerseys..   We hope you enjoyed this episode, and we would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. This week on the Overreaction Revisited Podcast, Hoss and Greg discuss the Nebraska-Purdue game from October 28, 2023. Hoss states that “weird things happen around Halloween.” That is what turned a 24-0 lead into a 24-14 lead and gave the Boilermakers a little hope late in the game. While the offense was sharp for three quarters, fatigue had to have set in and mistakes were made in the fourth frame. Purdue scored all of their points off of turnovers, making the score closer than it seemed and the defensive effort lesser. The Blackshirts held the Boilermakers to under 200 yards of total offense, and as Hoss put it, despite the end-of-game weariness, it was perhaps the most complete game of the season. Give it a listen or a watch and be sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel for all Corn Nation shows.
