There's always next year. Really, what else can you say? Nebraska finishes the regular season 3-9, it's worst since the 1961 season. The only wins the Huskers were able to muster up in 2021: Fordham Buffalo Northwestern Eight of Nebraska's nine losses were by 8-points or less. This has led many people to say Nebraska is the best 3-9 team in the country. Let's be honest, there is no such thing as 3-9 is just that, 3-9. Ont this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice talk about the season-ending loss to Iowa and it followed the script for the entire season of disappointment and what-ifs. Yes, there's always next year, but will one more year be enough for Scott Frost? Listen to hear what Doctor Rob has to say. Additionally, there are a lot of decisions that need to be made by Scott Frost in a short amount of time. He needs to fill the assistant coaching vacancies, Adrian Martinez needs to decide if he's coming back, and oh yes, there's recruiting. We are joined in this Husker preview by former Nebraska Offensive Lineman himself, multi time guest of the pod, fan favorite, and current Husker Radio Network employee, Jeremiah Sirles. He joins us to talk all things Iowa v Nebraska including a rundown of the Nebraska season, some of the positives and negatives of this team, why they haven't been able to win close games, Adrian Martinez being out and what to expect with Logan Smothers, the Special Teams woes inside Big Red territory, Scott Frost dumping half his staff and getting a restructured contract, and a whole lot more. We also hear about Sirles being a dad, his thoughts on NIL changes over the past year, what he thinks of the transfer portal, and plenty of other stuff as well.

Scott Frost told media that Adrian Martinez is out for the season after suffering a shoulder injury vs Wisconsin. What does this mean for the Iowa Hawkeyes and their upcoming Friday game against Nebraska? We've got you covered here but before we get into that we have to discuss how dominating Keagan Murray has been and how great the Iowa men's basketball team looked vs Western Michigan last night. The defense was suffocating and aggressive throughout the night and Iowa was easily getting to the rim with Tony Perkins while Payton Sandfort was knocking down threes at an impressive clip. And as we do every Tuesday, we have a quick analytic breakdown from Iowa's win over Illinois. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Please go subscribe and like their podcast, and leave your hot takes about this game in the reviews. 1. Offense starts at 1:00 It's almost basketball season! Michigan can't get away from shooting itself in the foot, especially on substitutions and ill-timed false starts. Cade's passing game emergence in this game was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. The Andrel Anthony show results in an all-time hot take from last week. Is he the new number one receiver? Does any of this matter? Seth's best guess on the JJ fumble is that Corum might not have had the correct playcall. Erick All has 10 catches! [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense starts at 22:13 Defense takes a step back, particularly at defensive tackle. Lots of rotation at defensive tackle and leaving the starters off the field. Michigan was not prepared for Michigan State's tempo. Linebackers were fine, cornerbacks held up for the most part. Moten had a great shot at an interception and Dax Hill got beat deep on the MSU 4th down touchdown on a tip-of-the-hat throw. 3. Hot Takes, Special Teams, and Game Theory starts at 34:36 Hot takes so hot they would be sitting innocuously on a Michigan message board. AJ Henning Punt drop one of only a few missed opportunities on special teams. Moody kicks seven field goals, four of them count. Robbins' botched fake punt run should've just been a called fake punt run. Frustration about field goals and red zone decision making, including a Charlie Weiss comparison (miss you big guy xoxoxo). 4. Around the Big Ten, wsg Jamie Mac starts at 52:57 Michigan fans may be miserable, but so is most of the Big Ten. Nebraska pulled a Dave Brandon ticket sale scheme and Adrian Martinez got booed en route to four interceptions. Minnesota rows the boat to their own destiny. Wisconsin starting to look like Wisconsin as they also control their own destiny. Jamie has few notes about his Hoosiers losing to Maryland as Seth attempts to pronounce Tagovailoa correctly. Rutgers vs Illinois, happened. Does Ohio State have holes in the secondary that Michigan could exploi- nope, not even going to finish that sentence. Penn State actually getting the benefit of the doubt on holding non-calls. MUSIC: “How Not to Drown”—CHVRCHES feat. Is the end near for Scott Frost? Only Trev Alberts knows that answer, but it is starting to feel like the perfect candidate for the Nebraska job 4-years ago is not so perfect after all. Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice just happened to have on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 while recording this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy. There's a scene a the end of the movie that resembles Nebraska football these days. Lucious Malfoy carried the torch for Lord Voldemort until he realized the torch was going to go out. So Lucious, his wife Narcissa, and son Draco snuck out of Hogwarts during the final battle to save their own lives and any dignity they had left. Four years ago, the Nebraska media was a lot like the Malfoy family. They believed in Scott Frost and have pushed his agenda and approach to rebuild a program. But, unfortunately, after Nebraska lost to Purdue yesterday, those same disciples are turning into modern-day Judas'. Just read what they all had to say. Their words are the epitome of getting on the lifeboat before the ship sinks, much like Joeseph Bruce Ismay. Dirk Chatelain Tom Shatel Sam McKewon Steve Sipple Mitch Sherman We get it; the Athletic Director should never take the lead from the media. But these voices are prominent. They have been around the program for a long time; they've seen coaches come and go. Just like they did with Frank Solich, Bill Callahan, Bo Pelini, and Mike Riley. So when these voices turn on a head coach and run for cover, it's a pretty good indicator that the end is near. Fans flocked out of Memorial Stadium by the thousands with 10-minutes to go in the game against Purdue. Adrian Martinez threw four interceptions, and the defense was gassed because it couldn't stop the run and was on the field for over 38 minutes of a 60-minute game. In this podcast, we go in deeper into the postgame news conference of Scott Frost. It lasts just around 8-minutes. But, as we find out, that's a lot longer than Frost talked to the team after the game. He turned the motivational speech, or in this case, we have to stick together and get on the same page speech to the Captains. There are three games left in the season. Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Odds are Nebraska will lose two of the three, if not all of them meaning they will miss out on a bowl game for the fifth straight year. The longest streak since the late '50s and early '60's when the program was in shambles. After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating or a review? Why? Nebraska vs. Minnesota Pick Prediction 10/16/2021 by Tony T. Nebraska at Minnesota—College football free pick is Nebraska Cornhuskers -3.5. Golden Gophers moves the football for only 335 yards with 4.3 yards per rush. Cornhuskers move the football for 493 yards with 222 rushing for 4.8 yards per attempt. In a hard-hitting four-quarter battle, a late fumble after Adrian Martinez pushed forward for a first down and the short field goal by Michigan's Jake Moody that followed produced the narrow 32-29 margin for the No. 9 Wolverines to escape from Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

-Think about this year for Adrian. -For a game we thought was going to be a rout…it was anything but that. Nebraska was in the game the entire 60 minutes, led by Adrian Martinez and the Husker defense. And they had the ball with one minute left, down by a score, with a chance to tie. You'd take that entering the […]
The emails started flooding into the Doc Talk Sports inbox almost as soon as the game started. Nebraska fans were watching the Huskers give #3 Oklahoma a run for its money, but time and time again, mental mistakes, turnovers, and special teams stopped the Husker from pulling off the upset. Overwhelmingly the criticism was directed at the offensive line. To be even more specific, o-line coach Greg Austin. It's not easy for Husker fans to criticize a former player, but fans expect results and improvement when you put the whistle around your neck. Unfortunately, right about now, they've seen enough from a unit that, to this point, has not earned the title of “pipeline.” In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy Dr. Rob Zatechka goes into great detail about the o-line and why he thinks they are having problems. Talent is not the issue according to Dr. Rob. Coaching is a part of the problem, but not all of it. Remember that offensive scheme that Scott Frost bragged about? You know the one that EVERY Big 10 defense was going to have to adapt to? Well, Dr. Rob says the scheme is the biggest problem in the entire equation. Dr. Rob says he goes to bed at night dreaming about zone-blocking for the run game. Well, he's now dreaming about Nebraska, but he could be dreaming about almost every other team in the country! The Huskers failed to rush for over 100-yards against the Sooners. Up next they will by playing a now ranked Michigan State team that blew out Miami at Miami and held the Hurricanes to below 100-yards of rushing. Mel Tucker had had success against Nebraska when he was in Colorado. Tucker has a boatload of transfers in his second year with the Spartans, and they are off to a 3-0 start on the season. Despite the poor play of the offensive line, a dreadful kicking game, and sloppy penalties, Nebraska does have a lot riding in its favor as it goes to East Lansing. The biggest asset they have right now is confidence. They know they can play talented teams and if they eliminate their mistakes, maybe pull off an upset. Also, Adrian Martinez is coming off what may be his best game since his freshman season. If Martinez is clicking on all cylinders, then the Nebraska offense is dangerous no matter what. No opening take today. Both guys have had an unusual week of podcast prep but we bring you the best we've got of OU-Nebraska preview coverage beginning with our thoughts on the Nebraska offense facing off against OU's defense. Lee is much higher on Adrian Martinez than Grant (3:00). Is Lee crazy for thinking Adrian Martinez would be a great fit in the Ravens offense (13:40)? Grant's got some interesting stats that highlight Nebraska's offensive line problems. OU's D-Line is a distinct advantage in the trenches (17:45). The Huskers have a limited amount of weapons on offense (21:25). Will Adrian Martinez and Scott Frost have answers for Alex Grinch's defense? Is OU's defense predictable for opponents (25:35)? Will Billy Bowman play? Woodi Washington is "doubtful" to play. What will the Sooners' secondary look like (30:00)? Grant says Nebraska's defense is the strength of their team. But OU's offense has more talent and Lee says running the football well is simply the key to winning this game without much problem (35:00). The Huskers are aggressive on defense and have the potential to get physical and make Spencer Rattler uncomfortable early on, just like Tulane did (41:05). Grant tells you what he wants to see happen Saturday (44:45) then Lee tells you what he wants to see beginning with something he liked from Jeremiah Hall this week. And will OU's "GT Counter" play work against Nebraska (47:40)? Lee tells you what he thinks the film tells us will happen Saturday, and Grant also gives his game predction (56:35). What's the deal with West Virginia being favored over No. 15 Va Tech? K-State hosts Nevada this week. Big 12 play begins for Baylor and Kansas. Do you have the guts to take the Jayhawks (1:04:00)? The Casey Thompson era begins for Texas. Grant's got some thoughts on Steve Sarkisian and Texas (1:07:25). OSU's at Boise State and will this be one of those games where Mike Gundy surprises a bunch of people as an underdog? And Iowa State's playing in Vegas (1:11:30). We finish up with some picks on the biggest games of the week.
