The Helium Boys Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino back behind the microphones to react to USC's abysmal showing in a 38-20 rivalry loss to UCLA in the Trojans final Pac-12 game. Over 108 minutes, the Helium Boys break down the lackluster showing in the Crosstown Showdown that left them feeling like parents that are more disappointed than angry after a child's misdeeds and left the Trojans with a 7-5 record. The Helium Boys episode opens with the 'Two-Minute Drill' as each gives his initial reactions to the Trojans' loss to UCLA and the biggest things that stood out, including the continuation of the same story that has been seen throughout the season with an additional subplot of constantly giving the ball back to UCLA. In the Stock Up/Stock Down segment, the podcasting duo discuss who/what impressed, including Brenden Rice playing angry and collecting his fifth career 100-yard game, freshman defensive lineman Elijah Hughes getting his most extended run of the season and the Superman efforts of Caleb Williams that we've likely seen for the last time in cardinal and gold. The Helium Boys also look into what stocks took a hit over the weekend with USC continuing to have tackling woes on defense and struggling to block up front on the offensive side. Shotgun also poses the question to Chris of which offseason slogan was the worst between the 2012 team's "Prep, Not Hype" and 2023's "The longer it goes, the better we get." They also get diverted and go down a rabbit hole on the Pop Tart Bowl and end up having to present their favorite flavors. Throughout the show, Chris and Shotgun also look forward at USC's impending hire of a defensive coordinator and some of the things the new coach is going to have to address immediately. The Helium Boys then answer your questions from Twitter and Instagram discussing areas/players where USC regressed, how the transfer portal will reshape the Trojans' roster this offseason, preferred offensive systems and whether Jim Leonhard could be "Grinch-like." They also break down their three favorite holidays. Then during the overtime portion of the 'Take It or Leave It' section, Chris questions Shotgun on celebrity Thanksgiving guests and their side dishes of choice. The Georgia Bulldogs curb-stomped the Ole Miss Rebels in the seniors' last game at Sanford Stadium. Brock Bowers made his return to the lineup, and he looked like he never left. Kirby Smart had played it close to the vest about whether or not Bowers was going to play. Tenitra Batiste, Brent Rollins and Jarvis Davis talked about their big takeaway from Georgia's 52-17 win. Secondly, Mike Bobo received, pun intended, Bowers back into the fold and he got back NFL prospect Amarius Mims as well. The team talked about how scary this offense is going to be for their next two opponents. Also, they discussed Kendall Milton's performance in his last game at Sanford. Lastly, they wrapped things up by talking about C.J. Allen and previewing the Tennessee Volunteers. joinsubtext.com/lockedonsportsatlanta #georgiabulldogs #secfootball #KirbySmart #bulldogs Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Colts are already at the win total, many had them for the season. Losing Anthony Richardson for the season sucked. It makes the play calling more predictable. Is Shane Steichen using the tight ends most effectively? The Indianapolis Colts offense is top 10 in the NFL, and is respectable. Should Steichen hand off the play calling to Jim Bob Cooter? How big has injuries/suspensions impacted the team, compared to the rest of the NFL? Is coaching or the front office to blame for the lack of 'next man up'? The Colts worked out Sammy Watkins. Was Howard Mudd or Dante Scarnecchia the best offensive line coach? Goal is to win the Super Bowl. Expectation was an up and down season. Gus Bradley was not Shane Steichen's guy. The Defensive Coordinator might change after the season.
USC team reporter Keely Eure is joined by former USC and NFL defender Dion Bailey to react to the news of Alex Grinch's departure and share their thoughts on the Trojans' third loss of the season. Dion shares what he would look for in USC's next defensive coordinator and what to expect from the Trojans for the rest of the season. The podcast duo also answer your questions!Be sure to subscribe! On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing yet another disappointing defensive effort for the Trojans, this time a 52-42 loss to No. 5 Washington in the Coliseum. During the show as Ryan and Coach talked about the poor defensive performance news broke that defensive coordinator Alex Grinch had been fired, so they talk about that breaking news at the end of the episode. The Huskies were able to score on 8 of their 10 drives including 7 touchdowns for a ridiculous average of 5.2 points per drive. Coach Hyde feels it was a great crowd there for Homecoming and the offense scored enough to win the game, but the defense was questionable in every aspect of the game. Coach wants to know if this defense is even capable of getting a stop. He doesn't think all of the best players are playing and by now you should know which players can play and which cant. He's questioning the defensive philosophy where they can't even line up correctly or respond to offensive shifts, leaving the defense confused with huge gaps outside for opposing backs to run through. Coach would love to see head coach Lincoln Riley step in and start coaching on the defensive side and allow Kliff Kingsbury to take over and run the offense. The defense keeps doing the same thing and nothing changes and there are so many gaps in coverage that Coach said it looks like they are only playing with 9 guys out there. Coach says the kids are playing hard but with the combination of everything that is going wrong, the defense is simply horrible. With the loss the Trojans fell out of the AP Poll top-25 for the first time in the Riley era. As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show. Tiffany, Mike, Beau, and Rusty discuss if he's more excited to watch Carson Beck play or Tiffany Blackmon on the sidelines, Vanderbilt being the worst place to have a noon kickoff at, and Georgia not having a visitors locker room, Brent Key getting a big win against Miami, and why the change at Defensive Coordinator was a big reason for it, the game between Tennessee and Texas A&M being season defining games for both teams, if the Washington and Oregon game could decide which one of those teams gets a College Football Playoff spot, the game between Florida and South Carolina also being season defining games for both teams on Saturday, this week being critical for Sam Pittman and Arkansas, otherwise Sam Pittman may be on the hot seat, and him being infatuated with Fat Bear week. Finally, Tiffany, Mike and Beau close out this Thursday edition of The Morning Shift by continuing to react to the Philadelphia Phillies beating the Atlanta Braves 10-2 in game three of the NLDS, and debating if the Braves need to change their offensive approach to tonight's game. Next, The Morning Shift crew dives into the life of Beau Morgan in The Life of Squid! On this edition of The Life of Squid, Beau “Squidbilly” Morgan talks about how his MGA season is coming to an end tonight, and how it might get rained out.
New Orleans Saints and LSU insider Mike Detillier joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line talking about a big weekend in Louisiana sports live in the BankPlus Studio. Mike talks about how he doesn't expect many changes for the LSU defense going forward and how the defensive line needs to get more pressure. Mike talks about how Auburn and LSU always play tight and the effect Jayden Daniels has had on the team's success. Bo Gives Mike his SEC power rankings and Mike thinks that Ole Miss should be ranked above Texas A&M. Bo asks Mike about the fans feeling surrounding a Saints win and Mike talks about the effect of a smothering defense and how it helps the offense. Mike makes sure to say that he isn't super confident in the team yet and how the offensive scheme needs to keep improving. Mike talks about Deshaun Watson at Cleveland and how he needs the right system to produce without running back Nick Chubb. Bo asks Mike if fans think that Brian Kelly can bring a championship to LSU and Mike says that people still have faith as long as the defense shows it can improve. Mike talks about how it is unlikely Brian Kelly makes a change at defensive coordinator and Bo is shocked as Mike says that Kelly and DC Matt House are too tied together. Mike explains how Brian Kelly favors House so much that he is willing to risk his job on the coordinator and that it could be a big mistake. Out of Bounds is sponsored by BetterHelp. In the second hour, Mike Mulligan and David Haugh were joined by Score football analyst Olin Kreutz to share his takeaways from the Bears' 40-20 win against the Commanders last Thursday. We have a very special guest today who has been a part of some very impressive playoff runs in recent years. He is now the Head Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator at Tomball High School - welcome Dave Handal to the show! - Coach describes the pride of growing up in Lake Highlands, TX, the rivalry with the legendary Plano Wildcats, and the 5 Lake Highlands alums who are currently Head Coaches at premier football programs. - After graduating from Texas A&M where he was a self-proclaimed Intramural All-American, Dave earned an internship that soured him to "America's Team" and led him to embark on a successful career in coaching!! - It was during his time as Head Coach at Galena Park that Dave and Coach Kovo sparked up a friendship over working together to try to overcome similar challenges. After a great time at Galena Park, Coach moved on to become Defensive Coordinator at Tomball HS where he got to be a part of an amazing State Semifinal run that no one outside that Fieldhouse saw coming - made even more sweet by getting to share it with his youngest son who was the starting Middle Linebacker. - Coach shares some gems about how he learned to get past the mindset that your worth as a coach is defined solely by that score on the scoreboard, plus as a noted funny guy Coach Handal holds court by sharing some great stories of the funny encounters that seem to follow him, including coaching future 3x All-American Gonzaga Basketball Player Drew Timme as a kindergartner! - Finally as the consummate Texas Rangers fan we get Coach Handal's all-time Ranger Mount Rushmore, along with a fun Mavs Start-Bench-Cut with legendary names like Nowitzki, Doncic, and Nash!
