Send a textThis episode focuses on juveniles and juvenile law, starting with a discussion with a prosecutor and defense attorney who work in the juvenile justice system. They discuss their work, provide legal updates, and offer some sage advice for parents. The episode also includes statements from teens who want to become lawyers, a discussion with some lawyer parents who are raising teens, and statements from law students who volunteer to help teens impacted by the juvenile justice system. The episode concludes with a service spotlight that provides some insight into how minor trouble during the teens can contribute to major trouble later in life.Juvenile Justice: "Get in Your Kids' Business"Michael Hanson (Senior Counsel & Area Lead at Varghese Summersett) and Jamie Reyna (Juvenile Division Chief of the Harris County DA's Office) discuss some important distinctions between the juvenile justice and the adult criminal justice systems in Texas, talk about some relatively recent statutory changes that impact juveniles, and provide advice for parents of teens in light of what they've seen in their professional lives. Juvenile Goals: Future AdvocatesBehind the Lines asked high school students Yulianna Perales and Emily Castillo, who both want to be lawyers, why they are interested in studying law. Their short statements will remind you why you decided to enter this profession. *Coffee & Counsel: Parenting Teens*Parenting teen-agers has its challenges for parents, and certainly teens with lawyer parents likely think that has its challenges as well. This inaugural “Coffee & Counsel” segment includes three lawyers discussing having teen-aged children: Chastity Horne (Horne Rota Moos), Courtney Ervin (Hicks Thomas), and Derek Hollingsworth (Drumheller, Hollingsworth, & Monthy). While there is some legal information included in the discussion, such as what advice to give a teen who is learning to drive, it is also just a discussion among parents who want what is best for their children.Younger lawyer parents will also benefit from the wisdom of these more seasoned parents! Juvenile Allies: Law Students Making a DifferenceBehind the Lines asked three law students who have worked with juveniles during law school, Amy Abbott, Raisha Williams, and Claire Wills. These students all attend University of Houston Law Center. Thank you to BTL Interviewer Chandria Jackson for recruiting these guests. *Service Spotlight: The Beacon*Interviewer Ciara PerritanoNew BTL interviewer Ciara Perritano talks with Stephanie Marrone (Managing Attorney, Beacon Law) about the services Beacon Law offers to help unhoused individuals get back on track. Topics include how issues that may have happened while clients were juveniles such as having a truancy or driving without a license violation, impact their housing status, and how Beacon Law and its pro bono volunteers can help. This segment provides substantive legal discussion about the different types of legal issues impeding clients from getting IDs and housing, such as name changes, expunction, and sealing. Hello, my friend! Thank you so much for joining me for another Encouraging Word. This week, we're concluding our study of Joshua and the Israelites' journey to the Promised Land. When I originally preached these messages at my church in San Antonio, Texas, we began each day with a Glory Days Declaration. I want to share it with you today and invite you to recite it with me—wherever you're listening. Glory Days Declaration These days are Glory Days. My past is past. My future is bright. God's promises are true, and His Word is sure. With God as my helper, I will be all He wants me to be, do all He wants me to do, and receive all He wants me to receive. These are Glory Days.

The Reds won the World Series 50 years ago in a classic highlighted by the amazing game six eventually won by the Red Sox on the foul-pole hitting HR by Carlton Fisk in the 12th inning. Prior to that, legend has it that Pete Rose said to Fisk "Man, isn't this the most exciting game you've ever played in?”. Rose had a knack for being in the moment and enjoying this game called baseball more than maybe any player that ever lived. And Sports Illustrated rewarded him at the end of the year by naming him “Sportsman of the Year”. Rose was at the top of his game, beloved by not only fans of the Big Red Machine, but baseball fans everywhere. His popularity transcended the game, as he was an everyday man, who played the game the right way. His work ethic and daily grind were legendary and he resonated with a great amount of folks whose lives were built around that same dedication to whatever their profession was. He was the working mans idol. Everyone could relate to this kid who was born on the wrong side of Cincinnati and was now the king of the town. A 44-game hitting streak in 1978 captured the attention of the nation before he left Cincy for Philly the following year, helping the Phils win a World Series in 1980… the 3rd and final championship of his career. He returned to the Reds as a player manager and in 1985 became the the game's all-time leader in hits before retiring as a player a year later with a still record of 4,256 knocks. And then it all came crumbling down. Keith O'Brien is also a kid from Cincinnati who grew up watching Rose in his latter years and chronicled his entire life in his bestselling book, “Charlie Hustle: The Rise and Fall of Pete Rose, and the Last Glory Days of Baseball.” It goes into great detail about Rose's humble beginnings, how he got the nickname Charlie Hustle from two of the game's greats, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford, and how his prowess as one of the greatest players of all-time made him one of the game's most popular players of the 20th century. But O'Brien also did countless research into Rose's gambling addiction, the people that he associated with and the eventual suspension and expulsion from baseball. He joins us on POP to discuss at length in great passion how this man of the people who was adored by legions of fans everywhere would fall from grace, and end up on the outside of the Hall of Fame looking in… literally. It's a tragic tale of the American Dream going awry. A kid who had nothing but grit and determination turns himself into one of the greatest ballplayers of all-time, only to let his addiction to betting… and betting on the game he lived for...keep him away from the thing he loved most… baseball. Join us as we look back on the year Rose was at this top his game… 1975… and the decline that would take place a decade later as we talk with Keith O'Brien to discuss his book, “Charlie Hustle: The Rise and Fall of Pete Rose and the Last Glory Days of Baseball,” on the Past Our Prime podcast. Wardy's back…and serving up pure Albion nostalgia In this special episode, we're joined by Albion legend Peter Ward, a player whose name still echoes around Brighton & Hove Albion history. Ward lit up the Goldstone Ground in the late '70s and early '80s, becoming a fan favourite with his flair, goals and fearless attacking style. Few players have captured the spirit of the club quite like “Wardy.” Today he reflects on his playing days, the characters and matches that defined an era, and how the club has evolved from those early days to the world class setup we see today at the Amex. Three-quarters of the Bakken's top-tier well sites may have already been drilled and the remaining inventory may be less than stellar, but a new AI-based analysis suggests the quality of the rock held by the shale play's top producers varies widely.
A new analysis suggests about 75% of the Bakken's top-quartile locations have been drilled and only 6,100 well sites would generate a good return at the prices we've seen the past couple of years.

This week on the Tom Roland podcast, I sit down with John Gluck, the author of 'An Exercise in Uncertainty.' We dive deep into discussions about fishing, life, and John's incredible journey battling Multiple Myeloma—a rare blood cancer. Diagnosed with only 18 months to live, John has now thrived for over 21 years, thanks in part to breakthrough treatments and his passion for fishing. We also explore how fishing became a therapeutic escape for John, the power of mindset in overcoming challenges, and the role of family and career in his ongoing battle. Tune in to hear this inspiring story and learn from John's experiences.
