Husker Doc Talk

Play Episode Listen Later May 20, 2023 89:41

After listening to this episode of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Huskers fans may be astounded by what they hear.  Iowa Western Community College Head Coach Scott Strohmeier is our guest. Scott is the 2022 Nationa Junior College Coach of the Year. Iowa Western won its second national title under Strohmeir in 14 years. The Reivers have also finished runner-up twice under Strohmeir, the IWCC's only head coach since the program started in 2009.  Nebraska fans may need to remember that Tom Osborne was instrumental in Iowa Western getting a football program. He was a consultant for former IWCC President Dr. Dan Kinney. At the time, many people thought Iowa Western would become a pipeline of players to Lincoln. After all, there are no junior colleges in Nebraska that play football.  However, the story plays out differently. Iowa Western has created a pipeline for sure, just not to Lincoln. You will have to listen to the podcast to get the exact number of Iowa Western Players that have worn the Scarlet and Cream; the number may shock you. For the record, Stohmeier has put over 400 players into D1 Programs over the past 14 years and close to 100 at Power 5 Programs.  Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss his relationship with previous Nebraska coaches with Coach Strohmeier and what he expects moving forward with Matt Ruhle and the new Nebraska staff. They also talk about the critically acclaimed Last Chance U on Netflix and what the transfer portal and NIL mean to the JUCO game.  Betfred is THE local book for Eastern Nebraska; drive to Iowa. And in Western Nebraska, and go to Colorado.  If you use the BetFred Iowa app, new customers who make their first wager of $50 will get $111 in Fred Bets and up to 50% of their losses back, up to $200 per week for their first five weeks of Betting with Fred.  Visit the Betfred Sportsbook Iowa App to start betting now! Must be 21 and located in Iowa. Gambling Problem, call 1-800-BETS OFF. Are you listening from around the country? In addition to Iowa and Colorado, you can bet with Betfred in Arizona, Maryland, Ohio, Washington, Louisiana, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.  Need a lawyer? At some point in life, everyone does. Call Connor Orr from the law firm Orr and Horgan when you do. Connor is a licensed athlete agent in the State of Nebraska. He works with athletes and businesses to help them navigate the exciting, developing landscape of Name, Image, and Likeness. If you have a question for Dr. Rob, you can email doctalksports@gmail.com. Based in Mumbai, Aayush Puthran is an experienced cricket reporter and analyst, with a strong focus on women's cricket. He has written an inspirational book, Unveiling Jazbaa, which weaves together the astonishing personal stories of the creators and players of women's cricket in Pakistan.Aayush begins by explaining the Urdu word Jazbaa. It has no precise English equivalent, but conveys a cocktail of emotions and passions which generate stunning unexpected achievement. It has been regularly applied to the Pakistan men's team: he thought that the women's team also deserved it, to convey their determination to step out.He outlines the early history of Pakistan women's cricket in the 1970s, largely confined to well-connected women in élite institutions. As in India in the same era, it was much easier for women to take part in individual sports such as running or badminton or in hockey.Aayush tells the dramatic story of the Khan sisters of Karachi, Shaiza and Sharmeen (who sadly passed away in 2021). They pioneered Pakistan's international women's team against entrenched opposition and often great personal risk. Daughters of a wealthy father and a cricket-crazed mother (who had postponed her wedding to watch Pakistan play the West Indies), they had discovered themselves as cricketers during their English education during the 1980s. They identified with Pakistan's increasingly successful men's team of that period, but had no women's team which they and others could aspire to. They therefore decided to create one from nothing. He explains the political background which made their ambitions and activities so dangerous. Pakistan's then military dictator, General Zia ul-Haq had formed an alliance with deeply conservative fringe religious movements. They had promulgated the so-called Hudood Ordinances, imposing severe controls on the lives of women and girls, especially all activities outdoors, with severe punishments for alleged female transgressors of any kind.  They could play cricket and other sports only in enclosed private spaces, such as the compound at their father's carpet factory. When Zia was killed in an air crash in 1988 and replaced by Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan's first female Prime Minister, the sisters thought it would be safe to organize a proper cricket match involving former men's stars including the great Zaheer Abbas. They were mistaken. The religious ultras were still strong and the sisters faced death threats. They were forced instead to play an all-women's match in the compound with a massive police presence, and their father demanded that they fly back to England immediately it finished.Continue reading here: https://chiswickcalendar.co.uk/episode-113-a-story-made-for-the-movies-pakistan-womens-cricket/Get in touch with us by emailing obornehellercricket@outlook.com, we would love to hear from you!

Hova tűnnek a beszakított szerelékek? - Sztárvendégünk, Karcsai Dávid, aki megvizsgálja, hogyan lehetne kevésbé káros a vizekbe beszakított horgászfelszerelés. - A szerkesztőség nem reprezentatív felmérése a beszakadt motyókról. - A beszakított cuccok jelentős részét mi gyártjuk. - A legfájóbb termék a fióktermék. - A fémek árától szenved a termékfejlesztő. A nyersanyagárak elszállása ki is nyírnak komplett termékcsaládokat. - Mivel lehet betörni a nyugati piacra? - Jóslás: programozható horgászelektronikáké a jövő. This episode's guest knows any such ban won't prevent a pandemic and she has the facts and data to prove it.  In this episode of Right On The Mark's host, Keith Mark is joined by Dr. Jenifer Chatfield. She is a double board-certified veterinarian who has studied the origins of pandemics and their roots. She is a bright person who is highly educated on subjects that related to human and animal interaction. She is bright and lively and speaks in plain language making her the perfect guest for this subject. She and Keith served President Trump's International Wildlife Conservation Council. The IWCC advised the Secretary of the Interior on a variety of international hunting topics including anti-poaching programs, wildlife trafficking and efforts. They discuss what they learned by meeting with foreign leaders who's country's rely on the American hunter for conservation funding. The fact is, there is no scientific data to support the notion these bans would prevent any disease. Furthermore, she says any such ban would have devastating effects on hunters and outfitters in Canada, Mexico and around the world. Many African nations rely on American hunters to fund their conservation efforts and this revenue would go away with any such ban.  Dr. Jen also breaks down where pandemics have come from and how science has shown that banning the import of these mammals and birds would provide no protection from future pandemics.
