In this fun episode Laura is joined by co-host Rina Malin to investigate this age-old dream of our teeth falling out and what it might mean. Laura discusses her own childhood trauma around breaking a front tooth and going to the dentist and they look at whether this prevalent dream – or should that be nightmare? – is linked with old fears, anxieties and stresses. Is it linked with the psychological impact of impending life changes and transformations? They discuss Freudian and Kleinian psychodynamic theories about elimination and the annihilation of Self. As a drill starts up in the background they joke about being in the dentist chair and Dracula while looking at theories around teeth representing power, strength and survival and how an animal baring its teeth as a warning has evolved into the human smile. In this episode, Laura meets Franca Fubini, chair of the Social Dreaming International Network, to explore the concept of social dreaming, a methodology developed to understand and share dreams collectively in what they call a Matrix. What is it like to be in the Matrix? And what happens? Franca, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and organizational consultant, discusses the history of social dreaming. How its methodology was developed by Gordon Lawrence in the 1980s, its links with the Tavistock clinic in London, UK, and its significance in understanding societal issues today. Laura and France delve into the social dreaming matrix, where groups come together to share dreams and find collective meaning and how that differs from traditional dream analysis as the focus in social dreaming is on the dream itself, not the dreamer. The discussion also touches on the impact of the 9/11 and COVID-19 pandemic on dreaming, highlighting common themes that emerged during this time. Fran a also explains how she uses the concept within companies and international organizations in a concept known as reflective citizenship. This is the power of dreams on a global scale. Animals in dreams always seem to have a special meaningfulness. Today we talk about how dreams of certain animals were viewed at the Asklepian Temple in ancient Greece where people could go to be healed by their dreams. Learn about a modern interpretation of this ancient technique from our guest psychotherapist, mindfulness teacher, and Dream Boat podcast host Laura Payne of the Dream Research Institute in London. A short clip from the show can be found here: After the break we hear from Steve Popp from Santa Cruz with a dream about a series of animals beginning with a moose and ending with a talking lynx. Then we take a question from Max who asks about not just seeing dogs in dreams but being a dog. Finally we take a call from Kathy from Corona for a quick check in. Information about her October Asklepian Dream Retreat in Greece will be up on her webpage in January. From our guest: My name is Laura Payne, and I'm an avid dream lover. I'm a clinical depth psychotherapist, supervisor and lecturer, a mindfulness teacher, and associate of the Dream Research Institute for Studies based in London, England. Laura and Rina interview documentary film maker, Amanda Rubin, about her forthcoming film The Third Reich of Dreams. The film explores the psychological impact of totalitarianism through the lens of dreams collected by journalist Charlotte Beradt during the rise of the Nazi regime in 1930's Germany. Amanda Rubin discusses her rediscovery of Beradt's work and the themes present in the dreams, including loss of self, conformity, the hidden voices of totalitarianism and the complex relationship between oppressors and the oppressed. Rubin has republished Charlotte's book of the same name The Third Reich of Dreams (Princeton University Press) which plunges us into the surreal, shifting world of dreams under Nazi rule— where limbs freeze in involuntary salutes, walls vanish by decree, and nightmares pit survival against betrayal. With Germany descending deeper into fascism and Europe's borders tightening, Charlotte races against time to encode and smuggle her secret archive out of the country as part of her own escape to the US. What begins as an act of witnessing transforms into a profound form of resistance, one that contains not only a lesson but a warning. The discussion touches the significance of dreams in reflecting societal changes. In this conversation, the speakers delve into the complexities of dreams, trauma, and identity, particularly in the context of historical oppression. They explore how dreams serve as a reflection of personal and collective experiences, especially during times of crisis. The discussion highlights the significance of Charlotte's work in documenting these themes and the importance of understanding the past to inform the present and future. https://www.amandarubin.com/13006210-the-third-reich-of-dreams Remember that your dreams are worth inquiring about too! Interview with David Cataford, CEO of Champion Iron Ltd.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/g-mining-ventures-tsxgmin-champion-iron-tsxcia-playbook-for-success-7198Recording date: 24th November 2025Champion Iron stands at a compelling inflection point for investors seeking exposure to steel industry decarbonisation. After seven years and over $2 billion of capital investment, the Canadian iron ore producer is weeks away from completing its transformation into one of the world's premier ultra-high-grade concentrate suppliers, with the major expenditure cycle ending December 2025 and material free cash flow generation beginning 2026.The company just delivered its strongest quarterly performance in two years, generating approximately $175 million EBITDA with record sales of 4 million tonnes. This operational momentum comes as Champion works through a 3-million-tonne stockpile of premium 66.2% concentrate that provides near-term cash generation visibility as inventory converts to sales over coming quarters. Management owns over 10% of the business, ensuring strong alignment with shareholder interests.Champion's most significant catalyst arrives with December 2025 completion of its $500 million DR Pellet Feed project, over 80% complete with remaining work focused on piping and electrical systems. This upgrade transitions half of production – approximately 7-12 million tonnes annually – to up to 69% iron ore concentrate, positioning Champion amongst the world's highest-grade producers with first commercial shipments expected early 2026.The strategic rationale extends beyond grade premiums. Current production ships approximately 9 million tonnes annually to China, incurring freight costs of $23-25 per tonne whilst competing against proximate Australian and Brazilian suppliers. The DR Pellet Feed material targets North Africa, Middle East, and European customers where Champion's Canadian location becomes proximity advantage, reducing freight costs whilst commanding premiums for material essential to Direct Reduction Iron processes central to steel decarbonisation.Champion's ore stability provides critical competitive advantage. The company maintains an unblemished on-specification delivery record, enabling long-term contracts with sophisticated buyers who cannot tolerate specification risk in DRI feedstock. Whilst premiums for high-grade material currently sit at historical lows, Champion has witnessed premiums reaching $45 per tonne during previous periods of tight supply, suggesting significant upside potential as steel industry decarbonisation accelerates. The valuation disconnect presents compelling opportunity. Champion trades at market capitalisation under $2 billion against over $6 billion in replacement costs – approximately 70% discount to asset replication value. This gap exists despite management's unblemished track record of delivering three consecutive major projects on time and on budget since 2017. Management is now evaluating share buybacks as value-creating strategy given this substantial discount.Iron ore pricing resilience stems from Chinese domestic production economics. China produces over 450 million tonnes at relatively high cost, creating natural price support as high-cost producers curtail output when prices decline. This dynamic has provided consistent support around $100 per tonne despite analyst forecasts of lower pricing since 2015.Beyond current operations, Champion secured attractive growth optionality through its Kami project – potential 9-million-tonne-per-year development with 49% sold to Nippon Steel and Sojitz. Partner equity contributions fund several years of permitting and feasibility work without requiring Champion shareholder capital, with construction decision possible in 2027.With capital expenditure cycle ending December 2025, Champion maintains four-year track record of semi-annual dividend payments (10 cents per share) whilst evaluating enhanced returns as free cash flow materialises. Multiple value drivers converge through 2026: working capital release, cost improvements, premium product sales, and enhanced capital returns at compelling valuation for investors believing in iron ore price stability and steel decarbonisation trends.View Champion Iron's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/champion-iron-limitedSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com
Spark Club Podcast Ep 63 -21st Nov 2025 Hosted by Grant McDowell and guest this week, Tim Buckley Highlights BESS deployments booming Batteries are the biggest disruptive force in global energy markets in 2025. Australia becomes world's third-largest utility battery market. Rho Motion reports Grid-scale BESS market saw 12.7GWh of new capacity enter operations globally in October 2025, +29% y-o-y. Meanwhile, global YTD deployments have reached 156GWh, +38% yoy. China led new operational capacity with 8.8GWh of utility scale BESS added in the Oct 2025 month – double what Australia will do this year – including one giga-scale vanadium flow battery. Powering Past Coal Alliance South Korea announces Powering Past Coal Alliance at COP30 in Brazil. Has consequences for Australia's future coal exports. Lowlights China RE capacity installs slow significantly China ended a major VRE incentive program in May 2025, which saw a massive pull forward of solar and wind installs, with a world record month of >90GW installed just in the month of May 2025, meaning ytd installs were double in 5MCY2025. Fast forward the following 5 months, and new RE installs have been running at just 12GW per month (still a monthly run rate double what Australia will do this year). The silver lining is that national emissions in China are still 10 months into 2025 down yoy, having possibly peaked back in March 2024. Steel and cement production in the month of Oct'2025 was down 5-10% yoy, so despite strong electricity demand driving thermal power generation +5% yoy, emissions overall for the month of Oct 2025 were down yoy. Tomago Closure Threats Rio Tinto is threatening to close Tomago aluminium smelter due to their inability to access cheap coal power beyond 2028. It is great to hear that the Federal Govt. is closely evaluating a financial intervention that provides a permanent decarbonisation solution that is globally cost competitive – but will, if delivered, represent a major shift away from the "free markets" doctrine of Australia over the last few decades that has guttered our manufacturing and value-add sectors. COP31 goes to Türkiye. What does it mean for Bowen and Adelaide. Main Story – Whyalla steel works CEF released our new report A Strategy for Whyalla: Enabling the Transformation and Decarbonisation of the Steelworks Leveraging targeted industry and climate policy to support a first-of-a-kind Australian capital deployment into firmed RE to produce GH2 & then green iron. Our report discusses the challenges facing SA in terms of energy supply pathways – there is a fork in the road ahead, methane lock-in or going the higher cost, higher risk GH2 route that aligns with the global need to drive decarbonisation and hence in building a commercial deployment to show how this can be done. This comes with all the risks of very slow GH2 deployments globally to-date and the still very high capital costs, and FOAK risks. So we would suggest a cautious evaluation of this, whilst pursuing policies of no regrets now. We recommend the SA Govt: Build magnetite mining capacities – high quality, low impurity Build the enabling RE firming and grid infrastructure ahead of demand Build a green steel EAF Build downstream steel fabrication capacities for domestic market needs Underwrite FOAF semi-commercial technology deployments in the Australian context – Calix ZESTY was one of our picks, but they are going to Kwinana WA thanks to a major new deal this week with Rio Tinto, Element Zero and DryFlow? Prepare the ground work for a GH2 powered DRI value-add plant as phase 2 to say reach FID in 5 years time Meanwhile, keep putting bandaids on the end of life steel works to elk out another few years. All of this gives clarity to the workforce and communities that they wont be left behind, but avoids locking in unproven GH2 till smaller FOAK deployments are proven up e.g. Also, news on Orica's 50MW at Newcastle here in NSW. What's coming up? Next WED Tim is in Canberra joining ATSE for a diesel fuel rebate conference in Canberra.

In this short business-oriented podcast, Bryan breaks down the differences between three commonly confused positions/roles: analyst vs. PM (project management) vs. operations. When you own or work in a small business, you might wear a lot of hats: estimating, writing proposals, troubleshooting, being a customer or coworker's therapist, etc. This work can be organized, and problem-solving roles include analysts, project managers (PMs), and directly responsible individuals (DRIs). Sometimes, the same person might do more than one of these (or all of them), but separate people can do these as long as you know what success looks like for each of these. Analysts gather data (such as costs, labor hours, inventory, and SME interviews) and ask big questions. They don't try to fix the problem right away; their job is to seek ideas, pay attention, document, and organize. They think in terms of stories and problem statements, and technicians can benefit from this type of mindset on service calls. Project managers translate the data, goals, and even the plans, and these people organize those items so that they can be executed in real life: creating checklists, gathering manuals, scheduling, and implementing basic SOP. PMs set a plan, but they have to maintain flexibility and drive execution (but may not be responsible for the outcome). The DRI owns the outcome; this person may or may not be the project manager. If there's a new program, software, or procedure, this person drives those. They are the operator and may not be involved in the analysis or planning, but they own the execution and are responsible for those results. Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? In this second part of the podcast, Michael Barnard pursues his conversation Paul Martin and Emiel van Druten with explores emerging insights into the Netherlands' energy transition, addressing core assumptions around efficiency, hydrogen usage, and electrification.Building efficiency upgrades yield disappointing returns, with gas consumption often rebounding within 2-4 years post-renovation, limiting achievable reductions to about 50%. The recommended solution is a clear shift toward electrification-first strategies, emphasizing cost-effective insulation to properly size heat pumps, a strategy supported by Heat Geeks' methodology and monitored at heatmonitor.org.Tata Steel's ambitious hydrogen-based direct reduction of iron (DRI) plans illustrate the industrial challenge. The strategy begins with natural gas DRI combined with carbon capture by 2025, transitioning fully to green hydrogen by 2040. However, declining global steel demand, driven by China's reduced infrastructure spending and a shift to scrap-based electric arc furnace production, calls into question the economic viability of domestic hydrogen-based steelmaking. A preferred interim solution involves biogenic methane with CCS, progressing eventually to importing green iron pellets for local processing.Contrary to broader industry forecasts, Dutch hydrogen demand may collapse by as much as 80% by 2050, drastically reducing electrolysis capacity requirements from over 30 GW to around 3 GW, reserved primarily for refineries and biorefineries. This scenario eliminates hydrogen from previously expected uses, such as ammonia production, transportation, steelmaking, and electricity backup generation.Methanol emerges surprisingly as a preferred shipping fuel, surpassing ammonia due to safety advantages and ease of biological sourcing. In aviation, hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) derived from waste oils becomes the preferred fuel, driven by its simpler conversion process, though competition for limited feedstocks will favor aviation, pushing shipping toward methanol. Electrification projections for short-sea shipping and inland waterways see significant upward revisions, with long-haul shipping partially electrified due to soaring alternative fuel costs.Transportation electrification accelerates, with full truck electrification anticipated by 2035, eliminating earlier expectations for hydrogen trucks. Industry expert Johnny Ninehuis predicts no diesel trucks sold beyond that point, emphasizing battery technology overcoming heavy transport challenges. The chemical industry faces transformation, with methanol production pathways favoring gasification of waste plastics and biomass, particularly for chemical feedstocks and fuel applications. A smaller, cleaner petrochemical sector will remain viable, shifting to low-sulfur crude and significantly cutting hydrogen demand.System-wide rebalancing adjusts electricity demand growth forecasts downward from a previously projected fivefold increase to approximately 3.5 to 4 times current consumption. This adjustment significantly reduces offshore wind expansion targets, eliminating expensive distant and deep-water installations. Nuclear power is also excluded as non-economic, positioning the Netherlands as a future electricity exporter to neighboring markets, notably southern Germany. Direct air capture and synthetic fuel production are considered economically impractical within the Netherlands, and the fertilizer sector is projected to shift towards ammonia imports as local production becomes increasingly uneconomic. Highlighting broader electrification trends, Fortescue's recent $3 billion investment in electrified mining equipment illustrates a growing momentum towards electrification even in challenging, heavy industrial sectors.
Laura and Maria discuss what happened on the recent DRI Dream retreat to the ancient dream healing site of Epidavros in Greece. We join them while they are there, enjoying the sights and sounds of this powerful ancient complex dedicated to Asklepios, the God of Healing and go down into the Abaton with them. As part of the 4 day retreat the retreatants also visit the ancient city of Corinth, much still standing, and then enjoy the powerful temple dedicated to the secretive Eleusinian mysteries at Elefsina near Athens. We hear Laura and Maria reflect while there on how impressive the 3000 year old complex still is and they recall the cult of the resurrection mysteries which are dedicated to the myth of Goddess Demeter and her daughter, Persephone who is stolen by Hades, the Death God of the Underworld, and has to live in the dark for six months of each year before being allowed to return to the earth and her mother. The power of centuries of worship here can still be felt today. Details of our next retreats and events will be advertised on the DRI website: driccpe.org.uk Our dreams are worth inquiring about too! In today's episode, I'm joined by our incredible lead coach, Jehan, who has guided hundreds of women through deep transformation in our signature group coaching program. Together, we unpack the most common patterns we see in women with type 1 diabetes, from fear of lows and all-or-nothing food habits to feeling overwhelmed by the daily unpredictability of blood sugars. Jehan shares her personal story and some of the exact tools we use in DCB, like the “5 Whys” and belief-replacement work, to help women move from stuck to empowered. We talk about what's really at the root of these challenges, and how real change doesn't come from just adjusting insulin… it comes from shifting your mindset and rebuilding trust in yourself.
