The Seattle Jewish Federation shooting, which occurred on July 28, 2006, was a tragic incident of targeted violence that deeply shook the community. The perpetrator, Naveed Afzal Haq, armed with two handguns, forced his way into the federation's offices, claiming he was angered by U.S. foreign policy and Israel's actions in Lebanon. Once inside, he opened fire indiscriminately, killing one woman and injuring five others, including a 17-year-old girl who was critically wounded. The shooting prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who apprehended Haq as he attempted to flee the scene.During his trial, Haq pleaded guilty to charges including murder, attempted murder, and unlawful imprisonment, ultimately receiving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. The attack left the Seattle community reeling, with an outpouring of support and solidarity shown towards the victims and their families. It also sparked conversations about security measures at community institutions and heightened awareness of the threat of domestic terrorism motivated by hate and extremism. In the aftermath of the shooting, efforts were made to memorialize the victims and strengthen community resilience against such acts of violence. The Seattle Jewish Federation shooting stands as a poignant reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and unity in the face of hatred and intolerance. https://linktr.ee/UnforbiddentruthBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unforbidden-truth--4724561/support.

Daily News Brief by TRT World

*) UN condemns Israeli attacks on Gaza hospitals, demands safe zones The UN has strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Gaza hospitals, demanding they remain "off limits." UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq says over twelve-thousand-people require urgent medical evacuation, adding that the impact of Israel's evacuation orders have affected over eighty-percent of Gaza. Haq called for media freedoms to be upheld and urged the removal of barriers against journalists. *) Suicides rise among Israeli soldiers amid Gaza war Twenty-eight soldiers have committed suicide since the start of the Gaza war in October twenty-twenty-three, surpassing last year's toll, according to the Israeli military. A total of eight-hundred-ninety-one soldiers have died and five-thousand-five-hundred-sixty-nine injured during the conflict, with three-hundred-sixty-three deaths in twenty-twenty-four alone. In response, the army has bolstered mental health support, including a twenty-four-seven helpline and expanded staff. *) 'Security service' blocks South Korea officials from arresting Yoon South Korean investigators seeking to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol are being confronted by "security service" members at his residence after an earlier stand-off with a military unit. Corruption Investigation Office investigators and police officials entered his residence earlier on Friday in an attempt to execute their warrant to detain Yoon. Investigators began executing a warrant for Yoon arrest over his failed martial law bid, the first time the country has ever sought to arrest a sitting leader. Yoon's legal team slammed the warrant as "illegal," pledging to fight back. *) US probes Tesla truck explosion outside Trump Hotel Las Vegas authorities are investigating an explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel. Initial findings suggest the driver, suspected to be Matthew Livelsberger, may have died by suicide before the vehicle exploded. Livelsberger served in the Army since two-thousand-six and was deployed to Afghanistan twice and served in other countries like Ukraine and Georgia. Meanwhile, the FBI has stated there is no definitive link between this incident and a separate vehicular attack that occurred in New Orleans on New Year's Day. *) Türkiye to protect all 'aggrieved groups' in Syria Türkiye remains committed to protecting all "aggrieved groups" in Syria, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said. Addressing a joint press conference in Ankara, Fidan declared Türkiye's role as a guardian for minorities, including Nusayris, Alevis, Yazidis, and Christians. Underlining Türkiye's support for over three-million Syrian refugees since two-thousand-eleven, Fidan stressed efforts to ensure their safety and promote Syria's future peace. He also called for international backing in Syria's reconstruction and reaffirmed Türkiye's readiness to aid in securing the country's borders and handling Daesh detainees.

In Pakistan, polio cases are rising ahead of a new vaccination campaign. Violence targeting health workers has also hurt years of efforts toward making the country polio-free. The World Health Organization says polio is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus. The disease largely affects children under age five. The virus is transmitted from person to person and spread mainly through contact. It invades the nervous system and causes a person to be unable to move arms, legs or muscles, a condition called paralysis. Among those paralyzed, up to 10 percent die when their breathing muscles become immobilized. Since January, health officials have confirmed 39 new polio cases in Pakistan, compared to only six last year, said Anwarul Haq. He is with the National Emergency Operation Center for Polio Eradication. Eradication means getting rid of something completely. The new nationwide campaign starts on October 28. The campaign aims to vaccinate at least 32 million children. “The whole purpose of these campaigns is to achieve the target of making Pakistan a polio-free state,” Haq said. Pakistan regularly launches campaigns against polio despite attacks on the workers and police assigned to protect them. Militants falsely claim that the vaccination campaigns are a Western attempt to sterilize children. To sterilize means to make someone unable to produce children. Most of the new polio cases were reported in the southwestern Balochistan and southern Sindh provinces. The next two areas with the most cases are Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eastern Punjab. The locations worry officials since previous cases were from the northwest areas bordering Afghanistan. In September, this is where the Taliban government suddenly stopped a house-to-house vaccination campaign. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the two countries in which the spread of the possibly deadly, paralyzing disease has never been eradicated. Officials in Pakistan have said that the Taliban's decision will have major effects beyond the Afghan border. People from both sides frequently travel to each other's country. The WHO has confirmed 18 polio cases in Afghanistan this year. All but two of these cases were in the south of the country. That number is up from six cases in 2023. In June, Afghanistan started a house-to-house vaccination campaign for the first time in five years. The campaign has helped to reach the majority of children targeted, officials at the WHO said. Health officials in Pakistan say they want both sides to hold anti-polio campaigns at the same time.

The reason your reverse diet might not be working isn't your fault... It still amazes me how much of the human body I'm still learning about and we are at Vital Spark coaching and every single year we get better and better as coaches and practitioner's helping our clients with their health and nutrition goals. Back when we first covered reverse dieting on this podcast, I thought it was one of the be all end all ways to help most if not all of our clients with their metabolism, hormones, and getting them back to a place where they could start dieting again and be successful at it. The more we coached, the more we found that strategy only goes so far and wasn't helping as many women as we wanted and it honestly broke my heart not being able to help these women. Fast forward to now, we've got new strategies and protocols for our clients and I absolutely love the process we take our clients through now. I'll share why your reverse diet might not be working, the importance of understanding where you are at right now using the HAQ survey, why the FLUSH protocol is next level if you haven't heard us talk about it before, and more!  Time Stamps: (1:16) Officially Fall in Florida(2:57) Why Your Reverse Diet Isn't Working(5:02) What Is A Reverse Diet?(9:06) Our HAQ Survey(15:07) The FLUSH Protocol---------------------Follow @vanessagfitness on Instagram for daily fitness tips & motivation. ---------------------Download Our FREE Metabolism-Boosting Workout Program---------------------Join the Women's Metabolism Secrets Facebook Community for 25+ videos teaching you how to start losing fat without hating your life!---------------------Click here to send me a message on Facebook and we'll see how I can help or what best free resources I can share!---------------------Interested in 1-on-1 Coaching with my team of Metabolism & Hormone Experts? The 2006 Seattle Jewish Federation shooting was a tragic and violent attack that took place on July 28, 2006, at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle building in Seattle, Washington. The shooter, Naveed Haq, a 30-year-old man, entered the building, claiming he was there to speak with a representative of the Federation but then opened fire, killing one person and injuring five others.Haq, who was of Pakistani descent and a Muslim, reportedly had a personal history of mental health issues. He walked into the Federation's offices armed with a handgun and began shooting indiscriminately at the employees present. He also made anti-Israel and anti-Semitic statements during the attack, although the exact motivations behind his actions remain unclear, with some speculating that it was a combination of personal grievances, ideological beliefs, and mental instability. The police arrived and were able to arrest Haq without further violence after a standoff. He was charged with first-degree murder, five counts of attempted murder, and other related crimes. The victim who died was Linda Thompson, a Jewish woman and employee at the Federation. The other five victims, though injured, survived the attack. Haq's actions raised concerns about anti-Semitic violence, and the event sent shockwaves through the Jewish community in Seattle and beyond. In 2009, Haq was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder and attempted murders. The attack remains one of the most notable instances of anti-Semitic violence in the United States in the 21st century.www.unforbiddentruth.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unforbidden-truth--4724561/support.

A selection of excerpts from the texts Tamhidát and Laváyeh by Ayn-al-Qużāt Hamadānī . Translated by Ali Yansori - with thanks to Ali for gifting this beautiful translation. Ayn-al-Qużāt Hamadānī (1098–1131) (Persian: عین‌ القضات همدانی), was a Persian jurisconsult, mystic, philosopher, poet and mathematician who was executed by the Seljuk rulers at the age of 33 on charges of heresy. He is one of the many overlooked figures of the pre-modern Islamic tradition. Born in Hamadhan in Seljuk Iran to a family of prominent Shāfi'ī scholars, by the age of 20 he had mastered Arabic, Persian, jurisprudence, ḥadīth, Qur'ān, poetry, kalām (dialectical theology), philosophy and various strands of mystical thought. A student of Aḥmad al-Ghazālī he became an eminent scholar and mystic in his own right, composing various works in both Persian and Arabic, the most important of which were Tamhīdāt and the Zubdat al-Haqāʾiq fī Kashf al-Khalāʾiq. Much of his mystical philosophy was focused on the concept of divine love. The shooting prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who apprehended Haq as he attempted to flee the scene. During his trial, Haq pleaded guilty to charges including murder, attempted murder, and unlawful imprisonment, ultimately receiving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. The Seattle Jewish Federation shooting stands as a poignant reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and unity in the face of hatred and intolerance. www.unforbiddentruth.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unforbidden-truth--4724561/support.

The landscape of development theory, measurement, and policy was transformed in 1990 with the publication of the first Human Development Report by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This report also introduced the Human Development Index, which is a summary measure of average achievement in 3 key dimensions of human development: life expectancy at birth, literacy and income. In 1981, Amartya Sen published a paper titled "Public action and the quality of life in developing countries", discussing global advancements in quality-of-life metrics such as longevity and literacy despite rising poverty in some areas. Sen highlighted the significant variance in progress among countries, examining how public policies influenced improvements in these indicators. His research on human capabilities, stressing the need for equitable opportunities and choices for everyone, also significantly contributed to the concept of human development. The noted Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq shared Sen's vision of focusing on human capabilities and well-being and moving beyond GDP in the pursuit of development.Haq also pioneered the practical application of the human development approach by introducing the Human Development Index. Both Sen and Haq were aided in this effort by Meghnad Desai, who taught economics from 1965 to 2003 at the London School of Economics, where he now holds the post of Professor Emeritus. Professor Desai has authored numerous books, the most recent being The Poverty of Political Economy: How Economics Abandoned the Poor (2022). He is also a member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Meghnad Desai at a conference in New Delhi, titled “Advancing Human Development in the Global South”. In this conversation, he highlights the shift in development metrics from traditional economic indicators to a more holistic approach that includes longevity, education, and income, explaining how this led to a transformative ranking system for countries and influenced international development policy. Our conversation took place outside the conference hall, on a chilly January day, amidst the hustle and bustle of traffic and fellow conference attendees. As I used my phone to record our discussion, you might find the sound quality less than ideal. However, I believe the insights shared by Meghnad Desai about the origins of the human development concept will more than compensate for any audio shortcomings.

Then Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav happened, setting the stage for Rohit Sharma with a higher degree of difficulty than you might have thought. All in front of a full house... well, kinda. Have you ever brought up a health concern to a doctor and felt like they didn't believe you or weren't taking you seriously? Everyone on this episode can relate. If the last time you tried to get health care was a disaster, you're more likely to try to "tough it out" the next time a health issue crops up.The lack of research. There are many gaps in research on women's health issues, as well as health issues for gender and racially diverse people. One example: Women weren't required by law to be part of National Institutes of Health clinical trials until 1994. These gaps can lead to subpar care. It's time for a change. For better health outcomes, systems — such as insurance and health care at large — need to change. But our guests argue that we can't wait until that happens, because people are hurting and dying now. Instead, everyone needs to be educated and empowered in order to advocate for themselves in the doctor's office. Can't get enough?Purchase the Mayo Clinic Press book "Taking Care of You."Purchase Deborah's book "Ladyparts."From Bookshop.orgFrom AmazonFrom Barnes & Noble Want to read more on the topic? A Ready Reckoner of Aurangzeb's Industrial Scale Temple Destructions

THIS EPISODE FEATURES a ready reckoner of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's prolific temple destructions across India. Copious evidence for this is available directly from Aurangzeb's Farmans (royal orders) and Akhbarat (news reports), William Crooke's Handbooks, De Graaf's chronicles, Charles Stewart's accounts and Jadunath Sarkar's five extraordinary volumes on Aurangzeb. We give a list of more than thirty Hindu temples that Aurangzeb destroyed in a vast geography that includes Agra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Karnataka. That's almost seventy percent of undivided India's landmass.Aurangzeb's reign is undoubtedly the worst of bad news as far as the Hindu civilisational memory is concerned. In fact, the attitude towards Aurangzeb shown by some powerful sections of the contemporary Muslim community in India offers some of the most telling evidences for this fact. Some representatives of the Muslim clergy today, especially on TV debates, are quite candid in their assertion that the Gyanvapi “mosque” is a settled fact—i.e., Hindus have no claim over the original Kashi Visvavantha Temple. THE LIST OF DESTROYED HINDU TEMPLES featured in this podcast is just the tip of the iceberg. The mere sight of a Hindu temple aroused extreme hatred within Aurangzeb. But it was also a gift and an inspiration for posterity. Therefore it is unsurprising that that a whole gamut of future fanatics like Shah Waliullah, Syed Ahmed Khan, Allama Iqbal and Zia-ul-Haq… all of them regarded Aurangzeb as a role model and lamented the loss of his guidance for properly putting the infidel Hindus in their place. But in this historical backdrop, it is clear that the final chapter of this story of temple destructions has still not been written. This podcast episode provides valuable lessons from this slice of Aurangzeb's long and brutal career of persecuting Hindus. These are lessons that must not be forgotten.A Heartfelt AppealIf you liked this podcast, please consider making a donation of your choice to The Dharma Dispatch Podcasts so we can keep our content free and offer more such informative and insightful content to you, our valued audience.* Click the button below to make a donation.* Donate via UPI: dharmadispatch@axl* Or Scan the QR Code given below to donate via UPI. Ever since military despot General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq claimed record support in a referendum on his rule, even though voting centres were visibly empty, Pakistanis have joked about 'farishtey', or angels, deciding the fate of election after election in Pakistan. The Army is confident its 'farishtey' will ensure Prime Minister Imran Khan doesn't get a second shot at power — but flagrant rigging could have serious long-term consequences.
