Terri Petersen interviews Heather Pack for our series "women outside the Garden" discussing the concept of "holy disruptors" as those who challenge accepted norms to create long-term solutions.  They explore biblical examples of women who advocated for change against the system of their day, including the Canaanite woman who challenged Jesus' boundaries and the five fatherless daughters who approached Moses to change existing inheritance laws.  Heather emphasized that disruptors should focus on fixing systems rather than just creating chaos and highlighted how Jesus himself was a disruptor who encouraged others, particularly women to speak up and advocate for themselves. Terri and Heather discuss the concept of obedience and sovereignty in religious practice, particularly about President Nelsons quote  "exact obedience brings miracles".  They explore how Mormon women can navigate making independent decisions while seeking to live a life with God. This episode focuses on courages women in the Bible, willing to advocate for themselves, even if it means breaking the status quo Heather's Website: https://timesoffaith.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/times.of.faith/ Free newsletter signup: https://times-of-faith.kit.com/free-bible-guide

Subscribe today for access to our full catalog of bonus episodes, including 2+ new episodes every month! www.patreon.com/boysbiblestudy This millennial-coded 2011 DVD Bible study series uses Facebook lingo, which was very en vogue at the time, to encourage people to upgrade their relationship with Jesus from casual to committed. NOT A FAN, the brainchild of minister Kyle Idleman, uses a clickbait-style title to grab your attention: what do you mean you're "NOT A FAN" of Jesus? What Idleman means is that on Facebook at the time, you could click a thumbs up to "become a fan" of something you liked, a shallow and performative gesture that serves as a metaphor for going through the motions of Christianity without participating with your full heart. Going to church every Sunday is meaningless without loving the process. To illustrate this, Idleman released a serial drama of 6 DVD study episodes about fictitious Eric Nelson, a cutthroat executive and "pleasure seeking rebel" who commits his life to Christ after a stress-induced heart attack. These episodes were condensed to a feature film, which we watched this week, with interstitial sermons narrated by Idleman himself. Nelson's family, shocked at his sudden transformation, does their best to keep up with his newfound enthusiasm but doesn't exactly love the life changes. The Nelsons go from a McMansion in the suburbs to a humble farmhouse, and Eric goes from the boardroom to the soup kitchen. They stay devoted to their patriarch and go along with what he says, but don't really "feel" the love and resent the new Christian austerity. A not-so-shocking tragic ending gives the Nelsons new perspective, and the entire family learns to be Followers of Jesus, not just Fans: people whose devotion to Christ has caused them to take on great sacrifice and inconvenience. Idleman basically says that if you're not feeling the burn of Christianity in your life, you're probably not going hard enough. NOT A FAN is delightful for its now-extremely-dated branding and vocabulary, but is overall a total slog, with constant scenes of death and suffering that don't do a good job of "selling" the Christian lifestyle to casuals. But then again, this DVD is for the Followers, NOT the Fans. He therefore answered their question by demonstrating that government does have a rightful place in everyones life and that one can be in subjection to government and God at the same time. He asked them to give Him a coin used to pay the tax. A Roman denarius, with its image of Caesar, the Roman emperor, made it obvious they were under Roman authority and taxation. (One coin inscription reads, Tiberius Caesar Augustus, son of the Divine Augustus.) Therefore the taxes must be paid: Give to Caesar what is Caesars. But Jesus also reminded them that a sphere of authority belongs to God: Give to God what is Gods. Individuals are to be subject also to His authority. Man has both political and spiritual responsibilities. Amazed at Jesus answer, both the Pharisees and the Herodians were silenced. Barbieri, L. A., Jr. (1985). Matthew. In J. F. Walvoord R. B. Zuck (Eds.), The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 2, p. 72). Victor Books. Man bears Gods image and owes God his all. Caesars image was on the coin; Gods image is on man (Gen. 1:2627). Sin has marred that image, but through Jesus Christ, it can be restored (Eph. 4:24; Col. 3:10). The relationship between religion and government is personal and individual. It is right for the people of God to serve in government (remember Daniel and Joseph). But it is wrong for government to control the church, or for the church to control government. Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 80). Victor Books. Nothing is known of the Herodians outside of the Gospels. Judging from their name, they were supporters of the Herodian dynasty in its collaboration with the Roman government. This would put them at the opposite end of the political spectrum from the Pharisees. Yet their common hatred of Christ was great enough that the Pharisees and Herodians joined forces against Him. Radmacher, E. D., Allen, R. B., House, H. W. (1999). Nelsons new illustrated Bible commentary (p. 1183). T. Nelson Publishers.

Despite no charges ever being filed, the Department of Justice seized their assets, including $7 million, devastating their family financially, mentally, and emotionally. Backed by former federal prosecutors, Amazon pressed for charges of “honest services fraud” even though her husband had complied fully with his employment contract.Over the years the Nelsons fought back, spending over $4 million in legal fees, while corporate giants and government agencies closed ranks. Their story exposes a disturbing alliance between Big Tech and the federal government, raising serious questions about unchecked corporate influence, prosecutorial overreach, and the lack of accountability from top leaders. Amy now advocates for justice and systemic reform, determined to prevent other families from enduring similar abuses of power. You can learn more about Amy's story and you can follow her on X by searching for her handle: @Amy_K_Nelson.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Overview We Are Blessed with Every Spiritual Blessing (1:3) We Are Saved by Gods Grace (2:8-9) We Are Heirs of Gods Promises (3:6) We Are Part of Gods Family (4:4-6) We Are Enlightened by Gods Spirit (5:8-10) We Are Empowered by Gods Armor (6:10-11) More To Consider Ephesians, like so much of Pauls writing, underscores the truth that salvation is by faith alone and not through works or human striving. The first half of the epistle (chs. 13) addresses the central doctrines of the Christian faith, while the second half of the letter (chs. 46) describes how those spiritual truths should be reflected in a Christians behavior. Some would divide the second half of the letter into two sectionsfirst the Christians conduct and then spiritual conflict with the forces of evil. Such a division highlights the familiar passage describing the spiritual armor of a Christian. Radmacher, E. D., Allen, R. B., House, H. W. (1999). Nelsons new illustrated Bible commentary (p. 1529). T. Nelson Publishers. Several years ago, two students graduated from the Chicago-Kent College of Law. The highest ranking student in the class was a blind man named Overton and, when he received his honor, he insisted that half the credit should go to his friend, Kaspryzak. They had met one another in school when the armless Mr. Kaspryzak had guided the blind Mr. Overton down a flight of stairs. This acquaintance ripened into friendship and a beautiful example of interdependence. The blind man carried the books which the armless man read aloud in their common study, and thus the individual deficiency of each was compensated for by the other. After their graduation, they planned to practice law together. Gary Inrig, Life in His Body. She had gone down in history as Americas Greatest Miser, yet when she died in 1916, Hetty Green left an estate valued at over $100 million. She ate cold oatmeal because it cost to heat it. Her son had to suffer a leg amputation, because she delayed so long in looking for a free clinic that his case became incurable. She was wealthy, yet she chose to live like a pauper. Eccentric? Certainly! Crazy? Perhapsbut nobody could prove it. She was so foolish that she hastened her own death by bringing on an attack of apoplexy while arguing about the value of drinking skimmed milk! But Hetty Green is an illustration of too many Christian believers today. They have limitless wealth at their disposal, and yet they live like paupers. It was to this kind of Christian that Paul wrote the Epistle to the Ephesians. Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 2, p. 8). Victor Books.

Sara Nelson, international president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO, joins The Real News for a look back at the 2019 shutdown fight and how unions can give workers the tools they need to fight back over the next four years.Studio Production: David Hebden Post-Production: Cameron GranadinoHelp us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer.Sign up for our newsletterFollow us on BlueskyLike us on FacebookFollow us on TwitterDonate to support this podcast

Wally and Juanita Nelson were civil rights activists, peace activists, war tax refusers, subsistence farmers, and advocates for simple living. They were members of groups such as CORE (Congress on Racial Equality), FOR (Fellowship of Reconciliation), and Peacemakers. In western Massachusetts they were founding members of the Greenfield Farmers' Market, the Free Harvest Supper, the Valley Community Land Trust, and Winter Fare. They were recipients of numerous awards during their lifetime, including the Courage of Conscience Award from the Peace Abbey in Sherborn, Mass., the Sacco and Vanzetti Award from Community Church in Boston, and the Local Hero Award from CISA (Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture) for championing local food and agriculture. (Excerpted from https://www.nelsonhomestead.org) As folklorists, gatherers of oral testimonials and audio producers, we Klines, along with production assistant Nicholas Boyer, produced an hour-long audio tapestry. This is an interweaving of many of the 25 voices we've recorded near and far under the guidance of the Nelson Legacy Project Archival Committee. Each interview averages 90 minutes. We excerpt short portions in order to weave a conversation on the themes of the Nelsons' lives—race, or the one human race, nonviolence, war tax refusal, joy, dance, land trusts and the action around the Kehler-Corner home seizure in Colrain by the IRS, the local food movement and simple living. Most all of our documentaries have music woven throughout. We created a short piece on the Nelsons called You Don't Gotta. You can hear it on the Project website where you can also enjoy a great many other audiovisual pieces and writings featuring the Nelsons.

This Saturday's "Saturday Matinee" on Vintage Classic Radio is a delightful holiday treat, kicking off with the "Ozzie and Harriet" radio show in the episode "No Show for Christmas". In this charming episode, originally broadcast on December 26th, 1948, the Nelson family decides to skip their usual lavish Christmas show to enjoy a simple, quiet Christmas at home, only to find themselves inadvertently entertaining a stream of unexpected guests. The episode stars Ozzie Nelson as himself, Harriet Nelson as herself, along with their real-life sons, David and Ricky Nelson, also playing themselves. Following the Nelsons, we'll hear the timeless tale of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," a story that captures the heart with its message of the true spirit of the holiday transcending materialism. Boris Karloff lends his iconic voice to the Grinch, bringing to life the curmudgeonly character who plots to ruin Christmas for the cheerful residents of Whoville but finds his heart touched by the simple joy of the season. Next, the holiday cheer continues with "The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show" in the episode titled "Alice Volunteers to Play Santa Claus." Airing originally, this episode features Alice Faye stepping into Santa's boots when Phil Harris, played by himself, is unable to perform his usual duties as Santa for a local charity event. Alice Faye stars as herself, with Phil Harris bringing his characteristic wit to his role. The episode is filled with laughter and good spirits, showcasing the comedic talents of its cast, including Elliott Lewis as Frankie Remley and Walter Tetley as Julius Abruzzio. We wrap up with the "Doris Day Show" in the episode "Here Comes Santa Claus" from December 23rd, 1953. In this festive broadcast, Doris Day prepares for a special Christmas show but faces a series of comic misadventures that threaten to derail her plans. Doris Day shines as herself, with Paul Weston's music adding to the holiday atmosphere. The show blends Doris's musical talents with a lighthearted storyline that epitomizes the festive season's spirit. Join us for these back-to-back vintage classics that promise to fill your home with warmth and laughter, capturing the essence of the holiday season.

Gunnar and Matthew Nelson are coming to town along wtih Santa! Christmas with The Nelsons will be at the Star Centre in Havre de Grace for one show on December 14th. The grandsons of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, and the sons of Ricky Nelson are multi-platinum artists who have been performing across the globe since 1979 with their father and then on their own after Ricky Nelson's untimely death. Today, we're talking to Matthew Nelson who said his father never got the chance to put out a Christmas album and when the duo did, it was a nod to their hero. And that show is now on the road with vintage footage of the Ozzie and Harriet Show, Ricky Nelson's concerts, and their own spin on things as well. The multimedia experience will be peppered with stories and memories of comforting holidays spent with the family, and at one point, the twins (identical) actually appear to be singing with theior dad! This will be a special evening at the Star Centre and well worth the short drive! In fact, go early and spend some time and explore Havre de Grace--it's a great little town on the Upper Chesapeake!
