Daniel McCormack, head of research for Macquarie Asset Management, says that heightened volatility in 2025 should make investors want to stay nimble and flexible, but he expects reasonable growth and a healthy environment. Sharing his outlook for 2025, McCormack says he expects China to begin "exporting inflation again," which could the U.S. back above a 3 percent inflation rate, which might slow down the pace of rate cuts, but it won't throw the economy into a recession. Larry Holzenthaler, portfolio manager for First Eagle Alternative Credit, gave his outlook for credit markets in 2025, noting that after avoiding default troubles when rates were rising, the picture is better now, particularly in private credit. Jennifer White discusses a J.D. Power study showing that consumers don't think their bank will help them out in an emergency, and how banks might be more helpful than customers expect, and Chuck answers a listener question about sequence-of-return risk.

Gina Sanchez, chief market strategist at Lido Advisors, says that the stock market is changing its mind so fast that every month investors have a new focus. She notes that the market has gone from favoring value to growth to defensive growth and kept rotating to where it is now back to growth, but she says that can't continue for long because the current level of "productive inflation" will stop working, leading to a slower economy in the second half of the year. While she doesn't expect a hard landing — and in fact expects a long, slow period of sluggishness — it will create volatility and conditions that favor quality, profitability and cash flow. Jennifer White discusses the latest J.D. Power research on consumer financial health, which showed modest improvement despite headline issues over inflation, although there is some concern that it's still a small group of consumers claiming improving circumstances. Plus, Kevin Walkush, portfolio manager at Jensen Investment Management, talks about quality growth stocks — with an eye towards the artificial intelligence companies that deserve the "quality" label — in the Market Call, and Chuck tells the story of Bitcoin Pizza Day, and what happened to the guys who in 2010 exchanged two pizzas valued at roughly $25 for a little more than $40 in bitcoin, which today is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

And we're expected to find all of this a joyous time of year. But it's events like these that make the summer holiday period difficult for some people, particularly anyone experiencing negative body image or eating disorders.  “How do people look compared to how they looked last year,” says Tania Nichols from Butterfly's National HelpLine. “Are they bigger or smaller? There's a lot of anxiety around potential judgement from others and the inevitable comments that go with them.” “Most of us, in general, start to feel the stress around getting together with people we haven't seen for ages,” Tania tells us. “And of course, that's magnified for people who are experiencing disordered eating and eating disorders because all of these festivities, of course, happen around food.” Jennifer White suffered from an eating disorder for years and says it was the holiday get-together over food that would always stress her out. “In the Australian culture, people feel comfortable, rightly or wrongly, commenting on how people look, what people wear, and what people eat,” she says. “At functions that I have gone to in the past, whether it be family, friends, work, whatever, it's just something that people say without really having a second thought.” Clinical psychologist Chris Cheers tells us negative body image can have a huge impact on how people cope with difficult situations. “People connect the way their body looks with their ability to be liked,” he says, “Or to form relationships with people or to get that boyfriend or girlfriend or get that partner, especially if you're single. There seems to be this pressure of you needing to look a particular way to make friends.” But he says by being aware of a few things, we can make a world of difference for our family and guests. “I think a really helpful question to ask someone is what would support look like for you right now. And we sometimes feel pressure to know how to support people too. And sometimes that can stop us from reaching out or saying anything.” He says, on a personal level, you can “give yourself permission to notice those expectations,” he says, “But choose instead to go inward, and be guided by what's important to you, be guided by your body and what you need.” For more tips and advice, go to Butterfly's Summer of Kindness page. https://butterfly.org.au/get-involved/campaigns/summerofkindness/  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Meet Jennifer:Jennifer genuinely enjoys helping b2b clients solve their lingering problems with analytical yet creative and innovative solutions. She is passionate about helping teams transform their organizations with quality service and delivery standards to achieve higher profits by creating efficient processes. while increasing visibility and performance optimization through data. Jennifer has found a unique ability to connect people while also linking data and technology to achieve results over the last decade-plus, she has supported and led various projects in the manufacturing operations and supply chain functions. Jennifer is the CEO of the M. J. W group headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. Lori: Can you share with our listeners how you've seen manufacturing shift over the years?Jennifer: Oh, boy. Let's see I got into the manufacturing world when I was in college. So I remember I went to school for industrial engineering at the University of Central Florida UCF. I remember my first manufacturing class when we were on CNC machines, we have to make this little pin holder, and my parents still have it at home, and we measured on us the measurements of our barrels if we were within tolerance, the lathe machine, the mill machine, so that was like my first hand on experience with manufacturing. And I went on to do a couple of internships, one with a defense contractor in the Orlando area, and the second with one of the largest amusement parks in the Orlando area. Oh, yes. And so that amusement park had a whole industrial engineering department. And so it was cool to be in the park operations to look at the flow of people and where to place certain things. So people are attracted to it. But in regards to manufacturing, that was my first go-round with looking at how things are produced how goods are produced, how they're transported from, you know, the manufacturing facility, and to the Enhance of the customer. And I would say, I think we've gone through a couple of periods here where we've tried to lean out as much as we could. And I think with the pandemic, we now know that just in time is not working for us, we cannot allow our goods to become that lean to inventory to be that to where it cripples the whole supply chain ripples, getting products into the hands of those and customers. And so I think now, manufacturing is starting to move back onshore, less offshore, or finding other ways we can be collaborative if we are going to remain offshore to where it's not crippling our overall infrastructure here in the US.Erin: What can manufacturers do to be better prepared for those major disruptions?Jennifer: Yeah, I think with the wake-up call now, organizations need to put in some plans around contingency. So they need to create, and call out these gaps that you are immediately seen, and start to put some things in place to address those gaps. Now, are you going to hit it 100% out of the park? No, no one's ever, you know, bulletproof, in anything that's going on in the world. But I think having some contingency around the risk, measuring the risk that organizations are now taking as I mentioned, we're bringing production back on shore. So what does that mean? I mean, it's gonna cause the cost of goods in the US to increase wages have increased, we've already been seeing the ramifications of that. So just being as much as prepared as you can around contingency, and not just like, the technology that we use in manufacturing, or our machines, but also your resources, like, what are we going to do, I'm hearing from other business owners, in our space that the trades have just diminished. Like, we don't have anyone, as I mentioned, the CNC machines, we don't have that many people that know those machines anymore or have those skills. So we need to figure out what we're gonna do with the generations, you know, to come...

Intro  Jennifer White began working with Inspired Virtual just after the pandemic. The online platform was created when the in-person microschool was forced to go online. The model transferred into an effective online community and the platform expanded to offer classes to a wider audience. In addition to her work with Inspired Virtual she and her husband host a website called Should I Homeschool, as another way to encourage parents who are undecided to take the next steps and try homeschool for one year. Aside from teaching her own children and teaching for Inspired Virtual, she speaks at homeschooling events and encourages parents who are just starting to think about homeschooling to commit to trying it for just one year. That's her passion, encouraging parent to just go for it!  Top three takeaways  Being a credentialed teacher is more of a hinderance than a benefit when teaching homeschool, lots of unlearning to do. Homeschooling despite the name is done more outside the home than in doors!  When you homeschool you can meet the child where they are by either challenging them or remediating for them.  Homeschooling allows for a connection between parent and child or teacher and child that you don't normally get in a brick-and-mortar school situation.    Call to Action  Social Media Links  Inspired Virtual WebPage  What is Next!  Thank you for supporting this show by listening and sharing with friends!
