If you have watched a Corn Nation video in the past couple of years, chances are you have heard the name Fred Sacco. Fred joins Minnie on Monday Night Therapy to talk about his experience growing up and living in Nebraska. As a Nebraska alum during the birth of the Golden Era in Nebraska Football he will share how electrifying plays by Tommie Frazier led the Cornhuskers to back-to-back national championships in the ‘90's, with the legendary Tom Osborne as head coach. As the dynasty continued with Eric Crouch in the 2000's, he led Nebraska to another championship appearance and was awarded the Heisman Trophy in 2001. Crouch's impact on the program solidified Nebraska's place as a national power. The years after Crouch saw a succession of head coaches and quarterbacks. While success was mixed, the program continued to find ways to win. From head coaches Bo Pellini to Mike Riley, Nebraska fans needed a change, with the return of the ‘95-'97 champion QB Scott Frost who fans dubbed ‘Golden Boy' to begin a new chapter as head coach. The high hopes they had for Nebraska to return to national prominence were met with inconsistencies at the play caller position with Adrian Martinez. Despite the ups and downs, Frost attracted top recruits back to the program. After HCSF, Matt Rhule, a coach known for his program-building success, takes the reins in Lincoln. Rhules arrival signaled a fresh start and a renewed focus on building a winning culture. However as the landscape of college football is ever changing, Rhule has had to learn and adjust quickly. The first big key towards winning football came in the shape of 5 star recruit Dylan Raiola, Nebraska's quarterback. Dylan has had a full season to learn to navigate the more competitive nature and the high demands of playing at the college level. Will Nebraska football be great again? After Tyson Terry, 4 star DT 2025 football recruit won his 4th straight Nebraska State Wrestling Title and finished his high school career with an undefeated record, it just might be that players with that ultra competitive spirit are exactly what this team needs to give us the edge. Also, Nebraska wrestling will have finished their regular season on Sunday the 23rd as they go into West Lafayette ranked #5 in the NCAA. We will discuss the final dual against Purdue and what the B1G Wrestling Championship in Evanston, Illinois will look like.

The Five Heart Podcast stars hosts Greg and Minnie and this week we feature special guest @Draft_Brian (Brian Johannes)! We're diving into the exciting world of Nebraska Huskers football as we introduce eight new players joining the team. Brian has analyzed the film on standout offensive linemen Rocco Spindler and Elijah Pritchett, along with Marques Watson-Trent, Andrew Marshall, Dane Key, Dasan McCullough, Jaylen George, and Williams Nwaneri. Greg will also unveil a special segment titled “Rome Wasn't Built in a Day,” exploring how Head Coach Matt Rhule is meticulously laying the foundation for the program's success. Additionally, we'll discuss the impact of our new Special Teams Coach Mike Ekeler on the team's future. Lastly, we'll touch on legendary coach Tom Osborne's recent interview about the challenges facing Division 1 college football, particularly with N.I.L., the transfer portal, and the need for sensible rules. As always Go Big Red!
We get set for the introductory press conference in Lincoln for Dani Busboom-Kelly, Tom Osborne says the obvious and gets aggregated, plus we try to encapsulate how good Ryan Kalkbrenner.
In the latest episode of the Pick Six Podcast, Sam McKewon, Tom Shatel and Evan Bland break down Nebraska not holding a traditional spring game and if Matt Rhule paranoid or justified in saying tampering was a reason behind the change. The crew opens with Nebraska's announcement that the Huskers won't have a traditional spring game and Matt Rhule's comments that part of the decision came from the tampering that happens in college football. They talk whether there is tampering and the loss of the Nebraska tradition. The trio moves onto Nebraska hiring Mike Ekeler special teams coordinator and the shuffling of Matt Rhule's staff this offseason. Is this a Matt Rhule 2.0 staff? Does this free Rhule to take on more of a CEO, while coordinators become mini head coaches of their units. Matt Rhule said he aims to blend talent (big NIL players) with culture (walk-on sort of players) on Nebraska's 105-man roster. Is this feasible, and is it worth it? How do you do it during the revenue sharing era? John Cook has stepped down as Nebraska volleyball coach and his successor has been named former Husker and Louisville coach Dani Busboom Kelly. Was it a seamless transition? Is there a better fit — or more qualified — to take over the Husker program? The crew also talks the parallels to Tom Osborne and Frank Solich and Scott Frost, and why this was the perfect time for Cook to retire. Nebraska men's basketball was on a big losing streaking. Now the Huskers have beaten two straight ranked teams (Illinois and Oregon) and are back on the NCAA tournament bubble. They talk how Fred Hoiberg's Hail Mary (calling the Illinois game the Huskers' Super Bowl) changed Nebraska's course and how Brice Williams and Juwan Gary have had huge impacts on the team. What does Nebraska need to do to get off the bubble and into the NCAA tournament? The crew gives their Super Bowl predictions — will the Kansas City Chiefs three-peat? — and what it will take for each team to win.
Diving back into the retirement of John Cook, the hiring of Dani Busboom Kelly, and the parallels of Tom Osborne's own retirement.
John Cook's retirement from Nebraska volleyball is one of the BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENTS in school history for Nebraska Athletics - and the impact will go beyond just volleyball. Damon Benning breaks down the significance of Cook's legacy, comparing his tenure to the legendary Tom Osborne. Troy Dannen, Nebraska athletic director, also deserves credit for the transition to coach Dani Busboom Kelly. What would Frank Solich want to be if he didn't start coaching football in 1966? What two games when he was the coach at Nebraska haunt him the most? You will find answers to these questions on the latest Husker Doc Talk Podcast with Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka. Frank Solich had the impossible job of replacing Tom Osborne in 1998. He turned the impossible into possible, winning the Big 12 title in 1999 (he should have won the National Championship) and the Big 12 North Division crowns in 2000 and 2001. At Nebraska, Solich coached 13 First-Team All-Americans, 28 First-Team All-Conference Players, a Heisman Trophy Winner, and a Campbell Trophy winner (really smart and really good players. Dr. Rob won the Campbell Trophy). That idiot Athletic Director Steve Pederson fired Solich after the 2003 season. He finished his Nebraska Head Coaching career with a 58-19 record. From 2005 through 2020, Solich coached Ohio University. He is the winningest coach in school and Mid-American Conference history. Solich was slow to return to Nebraska, as old wounds are hard to heal. But enough time has passed that he was back for the 2023 Spring Game and the Colorado game this season. Frank will officially be inducted into the College Football Hall-of-Fame in December. Don't forget, this podcast would not be possible without our sponsors! Please give them business. G-defy Shoes! A younger caller doesn't think of Tom Osborne as a coach. Us olds are sad.
You've heard the saying a picture is worth a thousand words. Capturing the emotions of pride, hope, excitement, joy, nostalgia, loyalty, courage, and even pain is what Licensed Husker Artist Ashley Spitsnogle has mastered. Today on Husker Talk, Ashley tells the story of how drawing horses and mermaids as a girl led to painting our Husker heroes. As a native, her passion for athletics was ingrained at a young age, sitting next to her Dad watching the Huskers play on TV every Saturday. Her passion grew when she attended an art school in Florence Italy. This is where Ashley realized she would be happy to paint for the rest of her life. Ashley's mainstay as an artist is philanthropy: She illustrated the children's book ‘Josh the Baby Otter', which brings awareness to child safety around water. ‘The Last Tunnel Walk' was a painting for Heartfelt Inc. which benefited grieving parents. Depicting Brook Berringer and Sam Foltz, two Husker football players who lost their lives to fatal accidents, as they walk the tunnel walk together toward a bright light. A painting of the legendary coach Tom Osborne and Brook Berringer for the TeamMates Mentoring program that The Osbornes began in 1991. As she said this painting depicts so many aspects of Husker football and mentorship. She even used her talent to shed light on the Nebraskan farmer at a critical moment in time. As they endured flooding and she saw the pain it caused, Ashley painted an unforgettable image titled “Healing the Heartland” depicting how others gathered around their neighbors to help by trucking in loads of hay. I really enjoyed hearing her stories of hope and excitement for Husker Football as she spoke about her extraordinary Husker paintings. Thursday, August 29th Ashley is hosting an art event with all 3 Heisman Trophy Winners in attendance. The event is at Main Street Studios & Art Gallery in Elkhorn, to attend, RSVP https://www.ashleyspitsnogle.com/ and please keep in mind this is not a memorabilia signing event.
Having the opportunity to work, learn and grow under some of the most highly respected decision makers in the NFL is one thing, taking advantage of all the mentoring is another. Eric Stokes certainly did the latter and discusses it all on Scouting the League. From his days with the Nebraska Cornhuskers under legend Tom Osborne, to joining a Seattle Seahawks staff with Mike Holmgren and Ted Thompson, Eric talks about all the influences he had along the way. John Schneider, Marty Hurney, Dave Gettleman and Ted Thompson, just to name a few. What did he learn from each of them and apply it to his scouting life. We also discuss what a front office exec is doing as we approach the final week of the pre-season and all the considerations a team has when setting not just their 53, but their practice squad as well. Join us for this episode of the Doc Talk Podcast, brought to you by BetFred Sports, as hosts Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka delve into the fascinating journey of Tony Veland. Beginning his career as a quarterback at Nebraska, Veland climbed the depth chart to earn the top spot before an injury sidelined him at the start of the 1993 season. Enter Tommie Frazier, and the rest is history. But Veland's story didn't end there. A natural athlete, he made a pivotal decision to switch to defense, a move that contributed to two consecutive national titles for the Huskers under the guidance of coach Tom Osborne. His talents didn't go unnoticed, leading to being drafted by the Denver Broncos and a subsequent Super Bowl victory. Despite facing adversity, including a gunshot wound in 2011, Veland's passion for football remains undiminished. In our interview, he shares personal anecdotes about his experiences on and off the field. Today, he imparts his knowledge as a coach for the Warren Academy, a youth development league founded by former Husker Steve Warren. From football triumphs to life's challenges, our conversation with Veland covers it all. Betfred Sports: Fred is your guy when you want to bet. Now, get in on the No Sweat-First bet bonus. The St. John's Morning Show from CBC Radio Nfld. and Labrador (Highlights)
Yesterday we heard from a mom of three who found out she had a brain tumour, after waiting for an MRI for almost two years. Today, we heard from Health Minister Tom Osborne.
After a month off, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka are back in the basement for another episode of Doc Talk presented by BetFred Sports. Their guest is former Husker and original Pipeline member Brenden Stai. You can imagine what happens when two former teammates get together for drinks. To be clear, Brenden drinks seltzers, not beer, and explains why he had to make a lifestyle change despite owning a craft brewery. How did a California kid end up in Nebraska? The story is pretty crazy. Here's a hint: a simple poster in a weight room planted a seed of curiosity and a hard sell; some would call it a threat by Tom Osborne, who closed the deal for Stai, who was initially verbally committed to Arizona State. Despite growing up in a rough California neighborhood and coming from a home where Brenden's mom and dad were divorced, his family was and is a big part of Brenden's journey to Nebraska, the pros, and back to Nebraska, where he is now the Assistant AD for Leadership Giving and Football Relations. You can say Brenden beat the odds in becoming the person he is today: former football player, entrepreneur, executive, and ambassador for the University and the athletic department. He covers it all and leaves us wanting more when the episode ends. This Podcast would not be possible without the support of the sponsors, so do us a favor and support them in return. After his playing career at Alabama ended, Danny Ford would become the youngest Head Coach in history to win a National Championship when his 1981 Clemson Tigers knocked off Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Through his career his teams beat squad's coached by the likes of Joe Paterno, Woody Hayes, Vince Dooley, Barry Switzer, Bobby Bowden, and Tom Osborne. Ever humble, he makes clear that his kids won those games, not him. Listen for some great stories from a fun era in college football.
Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska is the house that Tom Osborne built. It's the hallowed place where so many Cornhusker fans of a certain age remember the football team dominating the 1990s, winning national championships, and breaking NCAA records. Memorial Stadium also holds the record for longest streak of sellout games…but there's one game taking place there tonight that might set a whole nother record of its own. The Nebraska women's volleyball team is set to play against the University of Nebraska, Omaha tonight at Memorial Stadium, and a crowd of over 91,000 is expected. That has the potential not just to set a new attendance record at the stadium…it can possibly be the most attended women's sporting event in the world. So today, ESPN's Liz Merrill tells us how this all came together, why it's such a big deal…and why it's really not as much of a surprise as outsiders might think it is.
