A severe storm and a Sixers playoff game couldn't keep us from recording this week, and it's a good thing. Another great episode was had as Nick and Vaughn dove deep into WCW's May pay-per-view from 1997, Slamboree. There was an NFL invasion of sorts, as football greats Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Kevin Greene, and Reggie White all danced inside the squared circle at this event on May 18, 1997, live from the Independence Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina ... aka Horsemen Country. This would also be Ric Flair's first match in months after returning from injury. This pay-per-view surprised us... in a good way. We're obviously keeping track of the Sixers' playoff game and the Phillies in action, so we have some commentary on the goings on in those respective games, but we promise it doesn't take up too much time. The card: • WCW Television Championship: Steven Regal vs. Ultimate Dragon (c) (w/ Sonny Onoo) • Madusa vs. Luna Vachon • Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Yuji Yasuraoka • Glacier vs. Mortis (w/ James Vandenberg) • WCW United States Championship: Dean Malenko (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett (w/ Debra) • Death Match: Meng vs. Chris Benoit (w/ Woman) • The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner) vs. Konnan/Hugh Morrus (w/ Jimmy Hart) • Steve "Mongo" McMichael (w/ Debra) vs. Reggie White (w/ Kent Johnston) • Six-Man Tag Match: Ric Flair/Roddy Piper/Kevin Greene vs. nWo (Kevin Nash/Scott Hall/Syxx) -- Follow us on Twitter [@nickpiccone] [@VaughnMJohnson] [@ShootersRadio] You can subscribe to The Straight Shooters on the following platforms: [Apple Podcasts] [Google Podcasts] [Spotify] [iHeartRadio] [Amazon] [Audacy] [TuneIn Radio] [Pandora] [Stitcher] [Spreaker] [Player FM] and wherever else you get your podcasts! Do H-4EAD holders present harmful competition for U.S. workers. If so, how can that be quantified? Erickson Immigration Groups' Kahn Branch and James Vandenberg, attended Save Jobs USA V. DHS circuit court hearing, to find out. Today they share what they gathered.
IOWA CITY, Iowa – James Vandenberg became the next man in on an extreme level. He established himself as the prime example of that Iowa football mantra. For the first nine games of the 2009 season, the redshirt freshman quarterback helped prepare starter Ricky Stanzi for action. When the latter went down with a leg injury in Week 10 against Northwestern, Vandenberg was called to duty. The Hawkeyes were unbeaten and ranked in the Top 10 at the time. They were challenging for a Big Ten Championship. With Stanzi sidelined the following week at Ohio State, Vandenberg started for the first time in his college career in The Shoe. He helped the Hawkeyes put up a strong fight before they fell in overtime. Vandenberg went on to start two seasons after Stanzi’s graduation. He experienced the highs and lows of being the Iowa quarterback. He played served as the No. 1 for one season under offensive coordinator Ken O’Keefe and the other under Greg Davis. It turned out to be a tough transition. We caught up with Vandenberg for our latest Hawkeye History Podcast, in which he talks about the coaching change, stepping in for Stanzi as a freshman and what he learned from all of his college experiences. Max, Jerry, and Harrison are back for another week of the pod, and we talk about some aspects of Iowa's previous matchup against Illinois, including: getting the offense back on track, James Vandenberg(??), allowing 450 yards to the Illini, and NEW PUNTER ALERT! Then, as is customary, we preview Iowa's upcoming matchup against their upcoming opponent, Bye Week. What would we like to see the Hawks improve upon this week for the rest of the season. There has been a popular thought that Iowa’s multi-year quarterbacks ‘get worse’ as they get older in the program. I have heard this bandied about quite a bit through the years, and Deace and I have debated this point. In my opinion, and as I explain in the podcast, some of these instances, especially with Drew Tate and James Vandenberg, This topic came up back in September and I sat down to tackle some of the common notions that are thrown out pursuant to the narrative that Iowa’s multi-year starting quarterbacks get ‘worse’ the longer they are in the program. I think I must have been irritated at some of the debates I was in, so I apologize for coming off a bit edgy. As a companion for the podcast, you can see the statistics below for the multi-year starters of the Ferentz era that I will reference DREW TATE RICKY STANZI JAMES VANDENBERG JAKE RUDOCK CJ BEATHARD Learn more about your ad choices.
