Chase Robinson and Chris Lee share their SEC football power rankings entering Week 12. Topics include: Alabama destroyed LSU in Baton Rouge and has played about as well as anyone in the last two games. Arkansas had a week off to prepare for a tough matchup with Texas. Auburn also had a week off before a get-right game ahead with Louisiana-Monroe. Florida just can't shake the injury bug, but will the Gators have DJ Lagway available in what (if he plays) might be a winnable game vs. LSU? Georgia's offense has had trouble getting untracked and now the Bulldogs face a tough Tennessee team Saturday with its playoff hopes on the line. Kentucky had an off week and faces Murray State next week. LSU looked awful at home against Alabama and has no rest with games at Florida and them home contests with Vanderbilt and Oklahoma to finish. Ole Miss is third in the country according to the computers and now has a marquee win over Georgia to go with that. Mississippi State fell again as its defense wasn't good enough in Knoxville. Missouri kept its season alive with a dramatic comeback over Oklahoma in the final two minutes. As for Oklahoma, the injuries continue to mount in a disappointing season. South Carolina can challenge Alabama in the category of “playing as well as anyone” with the way the Gamecocks are playing on both sides of the ball. Tennessee won without Nico Iamaleava playing much of the Mississippi State game, and now needs him healthy as possible heading to Georgia. Texas handled a beaten-up Florida team handily and how closes with three SEC games. Texas A&M had an off week and now gets a breather with New Mexico State before a road trip to Auburn and a home game with Texas to close the year. Vanderbilt has a bye week after a problematic game last weekend with South Carolina. A group of self-described “non-Black voters” is suing Louisiana over the state's new congressional maps. The suit alleges a new second majority-Black district violates racial gerrymandering laws. The lawsuit is expected to go to court in early April, and could result in another shakeup in the state's long running legal battle. Jared Evans, senior policy counsel with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, joins Louisiana Considered to discuss what's at stake. The NAACP has advocated for the creation of a second majority-Black district for years. Gov. Jeff Landry signed the map into law earlier this year. Ouachita Parish, in north Louisiana, is home to an ancient archeological site that's older than the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge. The collection of 11 man-made mounds connected by an oval-shaped ridge is known as “Watson Brake.” Diana Greenlee, archaeologist and professor at the University of Louisiana Monroe, joins the show and tells us more about the ancient structures. A team of researchers at Louisiana State University recently made waves in the world of quantum physics. Omar Magana-Loaiza, LSU associate professor of physics, is a part of the LSU quantum photonics group, which published their research in the journal Nature Physics. This week on Inside the Headset, we are featuring Kyle Segler, the offensive line coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. In this episode, Coach Segler shares his passion for coaching, reflects on change within coaching, and discusses his experience with the AFCA 35 Under 35 Program. Coach Segler is in his second stint at ULM after coaching at Marshall. While at ULM the first time he was the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator for one season. Segler's special teams units were some of the best in the Sun Belt Conference, sporting net kickoff and punt return averages that ranked in the top 20 nationally. Prior to that, Segler was an assistant coach at Sam Houston State for eight seasons, where he coached the offensive line and tight ends. In 2016, he added the duties of special teams coach. Here, Segler's offensive linemen paved the way for a unit that broke 35 school records. He also helped develop four All-Americans. Prior to returning to his alma mater, he spent the 2009 season coaching at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, helping relaunch a football program that was discontinued in 1945. Segler was an offensive lineman on Sam Houston's team that won a share of the Southland regular-season title, advanced to the FCS semifinals and finished 11-3. He earned two degrees from Sam Houston, receiving his Bachelor's in kinesiology in 2006 and his Master's in sports management in 2010. Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The Miami Hurricanes landed two more important commitments through the transfer portal! JUCO wide receiver Shemar Kirk and ULM defensive lineman Anthony Campbell both picked Miami on Saturday night. Shemar Kirk has caught 76 passes for 1,446 yards and 15 touchdowns over his past two seasons at Reedley College. Campbell recorded a solid 74.4 run stopping grade last season at Louisiana Monroe. Host Alex Donno breaks down these new arrivals and explains who both can compete to start and at the very least, add quality depth. Miami landed Kirk just 24 hours after Bama transfer receiver Tyler Harrell. Canes have quickly revolutionized the wide receiver room. Donno also breaks down a busy weekend of unofficial visits at The U including appearances from 5-star players like WR JoJo Trader, CB Ellis Robinson IV, DT David Stone, EDGE Dylan Stewart, 4-stars in TE Caleb Odom, S Zaquan Patterson, S Jaylen Heyward and many more. Donno notes that 4-star CB Jamari Howard just de-committed from Michigan State and will likely be a UM target. Meanwhile, his HS teammate, quarterback Max Lawrence, just committed to Miami as a preferred walk on!You can chat with Donno any time on our new Subtext SMS texting service.
