It's the most controversial WCW Pay Per View in their horror run of the 2000s featuring the final ever appearance of Hulk Hogan in World Championship Wrestling, and Vince Russo's expletive laden shoot promo on The Hulkster live in the middle of the ring. It was huge 24 years ago - but how has it aged since then?

Recorded July 2023. In July 1996, we saw one of the most memorable moments in wrestling history, if not *the* most memorable. Hulk Hogan had finally turned his back on all of his fans and turned on WCW at Bash at the Beach to christen the New World Order (or Organization) on July 7. But we're here for the real action - Joe Gomez, Disco Inferno, THE NASTY BOYS, and more! Its the summer of 96, the night after WCW Bash at the Beach. Hulk Hogan just shocked the world by turning heel, the Rosenbluth boys are on their summer vacation to Disney World and somehow they managed to miss attending this episode of Nitro from Disney MGM??? Hear all about it as Justin and Dave discuss that plus the coming and goings of pro wrestling in 1996, the "Who Killed WCW" docuseries, infamous outdoor wrestling events and more as we celebrate summer with this outdoor wrestling theme only on Kick'n Out At 2!!!
Final part of the Protective Services arc. This is the issue where we are finally brought the big old fight that we have been promised. That's right, the biggest slobber knocker, big show, extravaganza that will shake the trees and roll the stones. Yee Haw Cowboy. Speaking of which, do you remember back on June 23, 1996, there was a King of the Ring tournament. Before the match, Jake "The Snake" Roberts was proselytizing in the locker room. But, at the end of the match, Stone Cold Steve Austin beat the veteran to win the match. That was the moment that Austin cut a promo where he talked about Jake reading from the bible and John 3:16...and how Austin 3:16 just said that he whipped your.......I do not know why I thought about that. Did you know that there once was an exploding barbed wire deathmatch on AEW? Yeah. Apparently, the danger level was high enough that the referee had to wear a hazmat suit. I mean, that is a whole new level of gimmick, but whatever. Going back to Jake "The Snake", he really did routines with live snakes, much to the annoyance of his fellow wrestlers. One of them even bit Macho Man Randy Savage in 1991. I once bit Jeff on a dare. I still have hair stuck in my teeth. According to the internet, the greatest Royal Rumble ever was the 1992 Royal Rumble. Ric Flair won the match by lasting in the ring for over an hour, outlasting all other competitors. This included many of the big names at the time including Hulk Hogan, the British Bulldog and Randy Savage. My money is on Mettle. Without getting into his definite problematic issues, the greatest villain in the wrestling world could be Vince McMahon. The fact that the owner of this corporation painted himself as the consistent villain in story lines, helping to sell story lines and mocking himself is admirable. Maybe he played the villain to easily. The WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 was very memorable because it was when Hulk Hogan came out as a bad guy and the New World Order was formed. it was unexpected that the most stable good guy would turn on his friends and fans was shocking. At the moment, my cohost has informed me that we are a comic book podcast and not a wrestling podcast. He feels that I should just move on. WCW went all-in with Bash at the Beach 1998, and it paid off in money but not with show quality. Even matches like Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero and Chris Jericho vs. a returning Rey Mysterio weren't all that great, dragged down by the overall show. Goldberg literally won the WCW World Title from Hollywood Hogan 6 days before this show, in the Georgia Dome, and he put that title on the line against Curt Hennig. That match felt like such an after thought and didn't last long, making Hennig look like a loser. Meanwhile, Hogan was still in the main event slot. He teamed with NBA megastar, Dennis Rodman, to take on Diamond Dallas Page and another NBA megastar, Karl Malone. There was tons of bad blood, controversy, and publicity leading into this one...and it wasn't great. All in all, this show was pretty bad, but WCW was still raking in the cash. So, what did they care? In the news, we discuss the major shakeups in WCW, WWF's embarrassing Brawl for All, major injuries for big time players in the WWF, the DX parody of the Nation of Domination, Stan Hansen controversies in Japan, big name no-shows, and much more! Dusty's birthday is on the 19th, so of course we gotta do a throwback wrestling episode. WCW's Bash at the Beach 2000 was an awful PPV that, for reasons we will get into, will be forever etched in wrestling history. Let's just say Hulk Hogan Hulk Hogan'd and Vince Russo Vince Russo'd. First, we talk about the upcoming Martin Scorcese movie starring Leo Decaprio and Bobby DeNiro, Varsity Blues, and we guess the top 5 Spotify songs of The Who and Limp Bizkit. Tell your friends, for the love of God.
On this episode of The Lawcast our hosts revisit WCW Bash at the Beach 2000.
Fresh off a weekend of throwing up the “Ws," Khal and Brian discuss Blerdcon while Ben talks about his time seeing the NBA's Logan Paul in Las Vegas. Then they discuss the following headlines: Carlito on his way back to WWE (4:31) Big E feeling 100% (10:52) Bully Ray on Keith Lee's substantial drop-off (16:44) Later, in They Said What?!, they react to a hot take from the Wednesday Worldwide Hotline regarding Logan Paul (25:28) and then go back in time to this day in 1998, when WCW Bash at the Beach took place featuring “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan teaming up with Dennis Rodman to face Diamond Dallas Page and Karl Malone (34:27). The crew closes the show with highlights from NXT (46:56) and a preview of tonight's AEW ‘Dynamite' (50:23). For an opportunity to have your hot take featured on They Said What?!, leave a voicemail at (202) 417-8160. Hosts: Ben Cruz, Khal Davenport, and Brian H. Waters Producer: Brian H. In 1994, Hulk Hogan made the leap from the WWF to WCW (with a short hiatus in between). We've covered the end of Hogan's WWE career in previous podcasts and now we're touching on the beginning of his WCW career as he FINALLY goes one-on-one with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair for the WCW Title. This match has been talked about for years and years, built up since Flair joined the WWF in late 1991, and it never happened...until now! Also on this card, "Stunning" Steve Austin defends his United States Title against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, the (VERY) odd couple of Cactus Jack and Kevin Sullivan defend the WCW Tag Titles against Pretty Wonderful, Dustin Rhodes puts his trust in tag-team partner Arn Anderson as they face Terry Funk and Bunkhouse Buck, Vader faces the newly crowned Guardian Angel, and Lord Steven Regal puts the TV Title on the line against the baaaad man, Johnny B. Badd! Badd! In the news, we discuss the ongoing steroid trial between the WWF and US Government, Undertaker vs. Undertaker at SummerSlam being spoiled by early advertisements on pizza boxes, the SMW champion no-showing and causing issues, and much, much more! 27 years ago, we saw one of the most memorable moments in wrestling history, if not *the* most memorable. Hulk Hogan had finally turned his back on all of his fans and turned on WCW at Bash at the Beach to christen the New World Order (or Organization) on July 7. It's ironic that the main event was titled a Stairway to Hell match, because most of ECW was like watching pro wrestling from Hell. It wasn't all bad, though, as we got a decent ECW World Title match between Tommy Dreamer and Justin Credible, a great Four Corners match between Yoshihiro Tajiri, Mikey Whipwreck, Little Guido and Psicosis, Jerry Lynn and Steve Corino had a great match, and we've got a fantastic Six-Man Tag match. Rob Van Dam tries to drag Scotty Anton (the former Scotty Riggs) to a presentable match, Big Sal and Balls Mahoney have a turd, Rhino and Sandman beat each other up over the TV Title, and much more. In the news, we discuss the disastrous fallout of WCW Bash at the Beach 2000, a hellacious injury for Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli, a future WWE star debuting in OVW, the drama between ECW, WWF, and TNN, plus much more!
