The body count piled up to unfathomable levels in Round 3 as Forty20 and Clint sift through the medical charts to see who made it through unscathed in this week's news podcast. The Eels were hit hard with Mitchell Moses ruled out for 2 months with a foot injury while Bryce Cartwright also faces an uncertain short term future with a rib injury. With Sixties on holiday (or is he?), the boys recap the big weekend of footy headlined by Parra's big comeback victory over the Sea Eagles in the NRL. TLT has dropped and the fire rises as Blaize Talagi returns to NRL duties at five-eighth. What changes for the rookie this week in his new role? Maika Sivo returns to the left wing while Morgan Harper wins out at left centre over Bailey Simonsson. Brisbane and Cronulla have been hammered by injuries in a wild week of footy. Upsets and big scores dominated the weekend as the boys look at the major story lines from Round 3. The Broncos at least are buoyed by the breaking news of Reece Walsh's new mega deal. The NSW Government have turned down a bid for Leichardt Oval funding but there is chatter about the NRL purchasing the venue. Where does this leave the Tigers? The show wraps up with a quick look at a new point of emphasis for defenders and some good news for the Dolphins.
Joel and Michelle are in for the Friday Run Home sprint and are joined by NRL star and now boxer Tevita Pangai Junior to talk about his upcoming bout against New Zealand's Raphael Sa'u, his future in the NRL, Bryce Cartwright and Josh Schuster. Plus they recap the Panthers vs Broncos and Joel slams the 18th man rule that denied Tristan Sailor game time last night. Plus, a Sportsbet Market Update with Sean Ormerod. NBA Legend Gary Payton joined Michelle and Joel on the Run Home to talk about his incredible career with Shaq, Michael Jordan, trash talking and his amazing defensive skills. Could the Eels bolster their backline in the early exchanges of 2024? The Tip Sheet explores a developing story surrounding Parramatta's supposed interest in Zac Lomax as Sixties, Forty20 and Clint look at how a potential deal could get done and what it might take. Brad Arthur has named an unchanged team to take on the Panthers in Round 2 as the show looks at all the news out of Team List Tuesday. Bryce Cartwright's scorching start to the season is turning heads - how high can his star rise this year? The boys go on to discuss Shaun Lane's documentary and the positive messages to come from it. The Spencer Leniu racism saga comes to a head with the NRL handing down an 8-game suspension for the slur used against Ezra Mam. Was the penalty sufficient? Is it now the precedent moving forwards? Jai Arrow's season hangs in the balance with a rotator cuff injury potentially sidelining him for a month or the entire season. Where does that leave Souths? Tom Gilbert's recovery from an ACL tear has been postponed following the discovery of a bloodclot in his lung. The show wraps up with a media rumour that proposes a frenzied transfer of forwards between the Cowboys, Dolphins, Storm and Tigers and a look at the bumper crowd turnouts in Round 1.
Any concerns over a repeat of the slow start from last year were quickly thrown aside as the Parramatta Eels comfortably accounted for the Canterbury Bulldogs on a scorching Saturday at CommBank Stadium. Bryce Cartwright starred for the Blue & Gold as he bagged a double and tormented the visitors throughout the contest. Sixties and Forty20 look at the rise and rise of Parramatta's weapon in the backrow. The boys look at how the forwards controlled the flow of the game and whether Junior Paulo's new role had anything to do with it. In the backline Morgan Harper made a strong club debut as Forty20 puts out a mea culpa. All of the other results on a massive schedule get reviewed with an assortment of wins and losses spread across the day.
As the NRL and NRLW reaches its zenith in 2023 with the grand finals to be played this week, The Tip Sheet returns for another round as Sixties, Forty20 and Clint breakdown all the happenings in rugby league this week. On the Parramatta front, the Eels announced the re-signings of Bryce Cartwright and Wiremu Greig to multi-year extensions. Young talent Apa Twidle likewise extended his stay at the club while Josh Hodgson officially retires and transitions into a coaching role for the Eels. At the other end of the spectrum, Dean Widders stands down as NRLW coach. It is grand final week and Penrith are calling for Sydney to rally around them. The boys share some strong opinions on the call to arms after years of Penrith playing the role of heel or villain in the competition. Adam Gee has won the right to hold the whistle on Sunday but officiating standards are the hot topic following a horror finals series across the board. What can be done? Do we need more technology or simply better standards? Lastly, the boys give out their tips for the clashes between the Knights and Titans in the NRLW and the Panters and Broncos in the NRL.

It wasn't so much a game of two halves as a game of two edges as the North Queensland Cowboys eviscerated a dysfunctional Parramatta left edge. By contrast Bryce Cartwright and Will Penisini lit up the second half down the right side of the field but it proved to be barely too little too late. Sixties and Forty20 jump into a tough instant reaction podcast as they dissect a costly first half. Injury was added to insult as well as Shaun Lane rounded out a nightmare season of injuries with a brutal elbow dislocation to go with a broken jaw and a torn hamstring. Valiant efforts from Clinton Gutherson, Bryce Cartwright and Will Penisini not only mitigated a potentially ugly hit to the team's points differential but somehow put the Eels into an unlikely position to win the game. The boys look at how much more time Parramatta needed to get over the line and whether they made the right call to not take a shot at goal in the closing exchanges of the game.
The Tip Sheet is as busy as ever despite the week off for the Parramatta Eels as Sixties, Forty20 and Clint sort through a bucket load of NRL news and happenings. First up, and on a serious note, is the most recent update to the Dylan Brown's legal situation. The boys discuss what lies ahead for Brown following him pleading guilty to two charges on Wednesday. The NRL is yet to deliver their final punishment and regardless of how that falls, Brown has let plenty of people down with his actions. A flurry of re-signings happened in the mean time for the Eels with Josh Hodgson, Daejarn Asi, Matt Doorey and Bailey Simonsson sorting their near futures out at the club. The contract talk segues to Bryce Cartwright following media reports of external interest in the in-form backrower as the panel looks at what it might take to pry him away from the Eels. The NRLW has been busy as well with their roster finally locked in. With the competition around the corner the boys discuss their expectations for the new look squad and how their team identity might be shifting from what we saw in 2022. There were some earth shaking revelations in the NRL this week with Justin Holbrook sacked by the Titans while Luke Brooks is a Silver Tail. For the Gold Coast they now turn to Des Hasler while the Sea Eagles went on a recruitment and retention spree with Brooks joining a number of other signings on the Northern Beaches. Tigertown is also in the spotlight this week with the departure of Brooks set against reports of clashes between Benji Marshall and Scott Fulton. Reece Walsh copped a 3-game suspension for the expletive laden barrage he delivered to referee Chris Butler. Was it the right punishment? Could Butler have handled the situation differently? What can league refs learn from their union counterparts? The show looks at all of that and more.
The journos are back with Danny Weidler, David Riccio & Adam Peacock breaking down the latest on the Dragons coaching race, how the media treats the Blues & the injury crisis hitting NSW. ------
Bryce Cartwright has gone from being a bit part player at Parramatta to a mainstay of their back row playing every game so far in 2023. Cartwright credits coach Brad Arthur for working on his game to make him cut out the silly errors and become a more consistent player. He told Andrew Moore and the team that he feels more in control of his game.

The first Origin split round has arrived as the Parramatta Eels host the North Queensland Cowboys on Friday night. Sixties and Forty20 look at Parramatta's match-ups across the weekend with the Jersey Flegg taking on the Melbourne Storm and the NSW Cup tackling the table-topping North Sydney Bears. The preview podcast starts with the Jersey Flegg and the arrival of Joshua Lynn to replace the injured Ethan Sanders. The Eels let victory slip through their fingers last week amidst a string of injuries and will be looking to bounce back this week. In the NSW Cup the Eels take their first steps forwards without Jake Arthur and the boys have immediate concerns about how the team will fare. Daejarn Asi takes over in the halves while Zac Cini gets a chance at fullback - can either player make the difference? Injuries have ravaged the Eels in the NRL while Origin selections have taken a toll on the Cowboys. It sets the scene for an intriguing battle on Friday night but perhaps the timely arrival of Joe Ofahengaue can swing the tide towards the Blue & Gold. The boys discuss where the game can be won and how the rise and rise of Wiremu Greig and Bryce Cartwright in 2023 has the Eels positioned to win a crucial round.

Labor leader Chris Minns spent longer filming Instagram videos than he did inside hospital emergency departments during a weekend social media blitz attacking the government over nurse staffing levels. TV star Karl Stefanovic has been embroiled in a police investigation after a waiter at a charity gala claimed he was touched and complained to police. Optus, Australia's second-biggest telco, has suffered one of the most significant data breaches in history with the personal details of millions of customers stolen by hackers in a successful cyber attack. And in sport, two years after his NRL career almost ended, Bryce Cartwright looms as Parramatta's heat-seeking missile in tonight's preliminary final clash with North Queensland. As the Parramatta Eels surge into the Grand Final Qualifier against the North Queensland Cowboys, The Tip Sheet takes a moment to step back and reassess the bigger picture. Spiro joins Sixties and Forty20 to talk about all the happenings around the league and indulge just a wee bit in the glorious win over the Canberra Raiders. The show starts by winding everything back to Friday night as Spiro delivers his takes on the breakthrough victory and what it means for the club. The panel then looks at the status of Tom Opacic and the inclusion of Bryce Cartwright ahead of the trip to Townsville this week. The conversation eventually turns to the unique position that the Parramatta Eels hold inside the domain of the media and why negativity seems to follow them - even after clearing the hurdles set for them in 2022. Next up is the bid by Tyrell Sloan to leave the Dragons. It is the latest chapter of player-vs-club contract drama and the dilemma faced by young stars who need to establish themselves quickly lest they get cast aside is the main theme of the discussion. That chat turns Northwards to Brisbane as rumours of a divide between Ben Ikin and Kevin Walters emerged this week. The Sydney Roosters dominated the RLPA Team Of The Year which leads Sixties to pose the question - did they underperform? The conversation opens up the idea that rugby league players can lead surprisingly insular lifestyles when it comes to the game itself and how that can impact these sort of votes. The show closes out with Spiro delivering his predictions for Friday night and how the Eels will book their place in the big dance come next week!

The Parramatta Eels find themselves in a very real quandary as they dropped their third straight game following a 40-12 loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 21. Sixties and Forty20 try to decipher where it has all gone wrong for the Blue & Gold over the last three rounds and how it can be remedied ahead of a crucial match against the Sea Eagles. Conversation in the media has now turned to the notion that the Parramatta Eels were never really premiership contenders and the boys discuss the validity of the call. Did the club and fans overestimate the roster and if so how far short are the Eels of contending? Finally, with Reed Mahoney succumbing to the same shoulder injury that saw him miss State of Origin the Eels have a huge hole to fill. Joey Lussick will step into the breach once more but do the Eels need to make more changes? The boys argue the case for Bryce Cartwright and why the absence of the NSW Cup might shape a multitude of such possible decisions.

It was far from flawless but the Parramatta Eels still cruised past the Canterbury Bulldogs in Round 8 with a 32-10 victory. Sixties and Forty20 hit the record button for another instant reaction as they breakdown the win. Sloppiness prevented the Eels from putting Canterbury completely to the sword. The fellas go over where Parramatta let themselves down and whether there should be any lingering concerns moving forwards. From there it is all about the good starting with the fullback and captain Clinton Gutherson. Gutho was in imperious touch against the Bulldogs, posting two tries and a cheeky 261m in just 72min. The boys also shout out Isaiah Papali'i, Reed Mahoney and Bryce Cartwright for their roles in the win. Brad Arthur pulled a switcheroo before kickoff as Junior Paulo and Oregon Kaufusi traded places. Kaufusi was quality in his first career start but Junior was somewhat scratchy and below is consistently dominant best. Forty and Sixties discuss the theory behind the swap and the implications it has for the Eels for the Origin period. The conversation takes an odd Beatles twist leading to Sixties making a bold announcement!
It might have been close through the early exchanges but the Parramatta Eels completely overran the Brisbane Broncos up in Darwin in Round 7. The 46-6 scoreline may have been the Eels' most comprehensive victory in the Top End over their 7 years of residency but it doesn't tell the true tale of how one-sided this clash was for the vast majority of the game. Forty20 and Sixties jump into another instant reaction to try and get a grip on this one as Parramatta soar to second place on the ladder. Praise is lavished across the park, firstly with the wholistic team effort in the face of truly testing conditions and later across the individuals who starred in their own rights. The bench in particular draws plaudits with Bryce Cartwright finally delivering the sort of performance that both Sixties and Forty20 envisaged earlier in the year when he was dominating in the preseason. Oregon Kaufusi, Will Smith and new recruit Wiremu Greig all are called out for starring roles from the interchange bench with Kaufusi posting a career night. The conversation goes well beyond the bench mind you with Brad Arthur's looming selection headaches fronting a discussion while the resurgence of Maika Sivo and the pure value of Tom Opacic also get bandied about. All this and more in a bumper instant reaction edition of The Tip Sheet!
The boys are working off a short week as the scramble to get ready for Round 5 but the show has to go on! Joey Grima fields the first batch of #AskJoey questions as dives into the X and Ys of the game. Starting with the roles of the A and B defenders, the mechanics of the block play and then defensive techniques, Joey delivers a cracking 101 on some of the fundamental aspects of the game. The regular season of the junior representatives winds up this weeked with the rescheduled Round 7 games taking place. The Harold Matthews are looking to shore up a Top 2 finish and a Week 1 bye in the finals while the SG Ball are looking to sneak into the Top 6. Joey talks the boys through how both teams are approaching their different scenarios. Sixties and Forty20 then run through the round to be with the Eels hosting a massive triple header at BankWest Stadium. The Jersey Flegg are taking on the Roosters and will be looking for their first win of the year while in the NSW Cup the Eels are hunting for a bounceback victory over the Dragons after dropping a game to the Magpies on Easter Monday. The weekend ends with the Eels looking to make it five straight in the NRL with a win over the 6th placed Dragons. Anthony Griffin has the Red V performing admirably in 2021 and the boys discuss what that entails for Sunday night. The return of Ryan Matterson and the club debut of Bryce Cartwright adds further intrigue to the contest and the fellas look at what sort of role 'The Carty Party' might have off the bench. This episode of The Tip Sheet ends on a sombre note as Sixties and Forty20 pay homage to one of the great characters of the game in Tommy Raudonikis. Tommy passed away on Wednesday morning after losing a battle with cancer at the age of 70.
The mics are live post-game and the takes are piping hot as Sixties literally joins Forty20 for an episode of The Tip Sheet the moment he walks back through his front door. In an episode focused on the instant reaction from the 36-22 victory over the Wests Tigers, the boys chat about a strange day out for the Eels. A last gasp burst of tries to Gutherson and Ferguson snuffed out an attempted comeback from the Tigers but the Eels very much opened that door with a string of costly errors. Reed Mahoney continued his brilliant start to 2021 with another incredibly polished effort while Isaiah Papali'i and Mitchell Moses also catch praise as Sixties and Forty20 breakdown individual performances on the public holiday. Brad Arthur's light use of the bench this week opens up a line questioning about potential changes to a winning formula which in turn leads to a quick NSW Cup review. Speaking of reserve grade, the boys quickly run their eyes over a see-sawing 34-28 loss for the Eels. Most importantly though, we got our first look at Bryce Cartwright and the newly acquired Wiremu Greig. Greig, fresh off a plane from the Cowboys, showed the traits and raw athleticism that would certainly excite the coaching staff as he works towards an impact role in first grade. Perhaps more importantly, Cartwright put himself immediately in the conversation for a NRL call-up with a well rounded performance. The skillful backrower paid out on the preseason hype with a focused defensive effort and by deploying his unique attacking repertoire without overplaying his hand. The boys discuss just how much food for thought to today's team list announcement before signing off!

Intro - 0:00 Footy Smiles feat. Big T - 2:00 Joey Grima - 46:20 Reviews, News & Previews - 1:13:04 Another loaded episode of The Tip Sheet kicks off with a great look into the hidden bright side of the NRL as The Biggest Tiger aka Big T joins the show. Big T, who runs Footy Smiles alongside a good friend JB, tells Sixties and Forty20 about the inspiration behind their initiative and just how far reaching the impact of rugby league stars has been over recent years. Another weekly installment with Joey Grima follows as he helps the boys unpack an action laden weekend. On top of a mixed bag in the junior representatives, we saw our first action in the Jersey Flegg and the NSW Cup and Joey helps fill in all the blanks as we start to get to know the extended senior rosters. The chat ends with Grima extending a fantastic invitation to listeners (and commenters on TCT who can post a question in this blog) to tweet any mechanical or tactical footy questions they have to @EelsTCT with the hashtag #AskJoey. From then on out it is all Sixties and Forty20 as the duo complete the full sweep of game reviews and go over some big breaking news for the Eels. Peter Badel reveals on Twitter that the blue & gold have lured blockbusting prop forward Wiremu Greig from the Cowboys. Greig, a 21-year-old powerhouse prop, joins the Eels on a 2-year deal and in a further boost for Parra, he is expected to join the club this season. The episode is capped off with all the previews from the action coming this long weekend. The headline act naturally is the Easter Monday battle against the Wests Tigers with a fearsome Parramatta line-up named. The return of Ryan Matterson leaves the Eels near full-strength while Bryce Cartwright's recovery from a fractured jaw adds plenty of spice and intrigue to the NSW Cup curtain raiser on Monday.
We've sat Mendy out for another 12 weeks for a bit of cap relief so it's just Pies and The Producer in the studio. Australia have cancelled the tour of South Africa due to the threat of the coronairus. The Aussies were concerned about the South African strain of COVID-19 and have pulled the pin. A shame for world cricket, but as a result New Zealand are through to the World Championship Final. In the BBL Brisbane Heat are in form leading into the Challenger Final against Perth Scorchers. A single COVID-19 case in Perth meant the Scorchers will now host that game at Manuka with the victors facing the Sydney 6ers at the SCG. The NFL is down to the big dance. The final showdown. That's right it's Super Bowl LV featuring the Tampa Bay Bucaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. Tom Brady vs Patrick Mahomes. The GOAT vs the best player in the NFL right now. We're looking forward to a great game. In the EPL Manchester City are on top with games in hand. Mancheter United are on fire and Tettenham have saved #PiesKnows for the time being with defeat at the hands of Brighton. The NBA has been great. The Brooklyn Nets are going out and just scoring more points than their opposition. Can it work in the playoffs? Plus there were some buzzer beaters this week. Rugby League is back in the media and we discuss the big stories around the NRL. Israel Folau testing the waters with St George Illawarra Dragons who have become the NRL version of a wrestling heel. Roosters have received $350k in cap relief by keeping Boyd Cordner out of the game for 12 weeks. Raiders players DUI and Bryce Cartwright training the house down at the Eels. The team then moves on and breakdown the Grand Final, the Channel 9 commentary and the Ivan Cleary May Day decision. Cameron Smith's retirement gets discussed and the team discusses what's next for the Panthers and Storm. In the meantime Tee mixes up his 1990 and 1991 Penrith jerseys and designs a chocolate brown jersey with pinstripes going across the body. The team then breaks down some signings and Jim Dymock gets a random mention once again along with Bryce Cartwright. The team discuss Tee's Grand Final Bet and who really one and whether Gee has a supercomputer hidden at home. @38.05 - the team breaks down the State of Origin Series and discuss game 1.
There is no such thing as an off-season when you love your footy and Sixties and Forty20 are all about that business! With the Parramatta Eels linked recently to a raft of players in both official and speculative capacities, the boys take stock of where the Eels' recruitment drive has the club positioned heading into the 2021 preseason. With the club formalising a deal with the mercurial Bryce Cartwright, Sixties offers his thoughts on why he thinks the acquisition of the polarising backrower could potentially be Parramatta's best signing. Forty20 is more reserved in his assessment of the former Panther and Titan but explores the opportunity cost of signing Cartwright and why the Eels are right to roll the dice. The duo revisit the club's three announced recruits in Isaiah Papali'i, Joey Lussick and Tom Opacic, gauging how the fit into first-grade calculations in 2021 before taking shots at how many of the the four players (including Cartwright) could feature in the Round 1 line-up next season. This week's podcast is rounded out by some intriguing rumours linking Parramatta to former juniors star Bevan French and Warrior's utility Nathaniel Roache. Sixties lays out why a reunion with French makes sense for both parties while Forty20 muses on the value and risk that Roache offers. Closing comments this week feature a quick look at the overhaul of the junior pathways system as the Eels adjust their youth programs in light of the COVID-era. The Panthers are undefeated for the 2015 NRL season! I'm only just recovering from that second half now but it's time to talk Titans for our round 2 clash in Bathurst. This week I'm joined on the show by Travis Meyn of the Gold Coast Bulletin (@travismeyn) and he gives us some great insights in to how some former-Panthers are settling in with their new club and helps me preview this weeks game. I also struggle through a solo-effort for the first five minutes recapping the Bulldogs game, evidently I still haven't recovered from the weekend, pre-season form apparently... but how good were those youngsters?!? PS: I didn't even mention Bryce Cartwright - the kid is a monster. That offload, those tackles. The future is BRIGHT.
This week I talk about Penrith Park's new naming rights sponsor, address the Trent Merrin rumours, preview the upcoming trial game and what we should expect from Bryce Cartwright's recovering ankle and Jamie Soward's dirty moustache. Later in the show I take a look at two heavyweight clubs heading in to 2015, confuse myself trying to talk about the Morris brothers who now play on the same team, and give my prediction for the 2015 Dally M Winner.
