KICK-OFF! Midt i første halvleg… SPORT! Anden halvleg fløjtes i gang! SPORT! Tak fordi I holder os i gang! SPORT! Med venlig hilsen, Ask, Sonny, Niels, Sport & Casper

Get ready for a classic WrestleMania rewind! Join The Burning Truth as we relive WrestleMania 8 in a full watch-along experience!
The night before the very first Wrestlemania, Mr. T and Hulk Hogan drop by to host the show together...except they mostly don't. It was supposed to be Steve Landesberg but he had to drop out for reasons. I guess? He's still a special guest though, as well as Liberace, Bob Orton Jr. and Rowdy Roddy Piper. I know I say this a lot, but this is an ODD one. It's basically a host-less episode, one of the rare episodes with no Update and the best moments of the show coming from places you would least expect them. And you get The Commodores post Lionel Richie, which is sadly, not great.
In this episode of Smarkin Out Wrestling, we discuss various topics including John Cena's recent heel turn, predictions for WrestleMania, and continue to countdown of the top 50 wrestlers of all time. We delve into the legacies of wrestlers like Kenny Omega, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Goldberg, and the Ultimate Warrior, exploring their impacts on the wrestling world and the controversies surrounding them. In this engaging conversation, we delve into the legacies of various wrestling legends, discussing their impact on the industry and their rankings among the greatest of all time. From AJ Styles' significant contributions to TNA and WWE, to Chris Jericho's reinventions in AEW, and the iconic status of Rowdy Roddy Piper, the discussion highlights the nuances of each wrestler's career. We also debate the merits of Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, and Bret Hart, exploring their respective places in wrestling history and the factors that contribute to their legacies. Banger talk on the rankings especially with Piper being involved.

This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with former TNA Ring Announcer David Penzer about his new book, "SITTING RINGSIDE, Volume 2: The XWF, TNA and Life After Wrestling". And as an added bonus, we are joined by a special guest co-host: AAron Camaro from the Decibel Geek podcast! Join hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell, along with returning guest Adam Marshall Rini, as they dive deep into John Carpenter's politically charged sci-fi action film They Live (1988). This cult classic starring WWE legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper delivers a scathing critique of Reaganomics and consumer culture through the lens of an alien invasion thriller. The hosts explore how They Live serves as a perfect gateway for introducing young audiences to anti-capitalist themes through its memorable combination of professional wrestling swagger and science fiction elements. While the film may be both "undercooked and overcooked," its messaging about class warfare and media manipulation remains startlingly relevant today. The episode features a fascinating discussion about John Carpenter's distinctive directing style, particularly his ability to craft compelling outsider characters and blend Western genre elements into urban settings. The hosts also dive into the film's practical effects, including its innovative black-and-white "alien vision" sequences and the infamous six-minute alley fight scene that has become a pop culture touchstone.Key Topics Discussed:The film's commentary on 1980s consumer culture and wealth inequalityRoddy Piper's transition from WWE superstar to action movie leadThe significance of the iconic sunglasses reveal (30 minutes into the film)Keith David's crucial supporting role and chemistry with PiperThe influence of They Live on modern media and pop cultureComparison to video games like Fallout: New VegasThe movie's lasting impact on anti-establishment messaging in filmWhether you're a longtime fan of John Carpenter's work or discovering They Live for the first time, this episode offers fresh insights into a movie that dares to ask who really controls our society – and what we're willing to do about it. The hosts rate the film on a scale of "sunglasses," leading to an interesting split between nostalgic appreciation and modern critical analysis.Wrap up the episode with some excellent recommendations for further exploration, including Fight Club, Noam Chomsky's "Understanding Power," and Green Day's political punk rock as natural next steps for those intrigued by the themes in They Live. --We couldn't do this without your support of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast!
