What's better than one genius? Two geniuses, obviously. And that's who WCW hired according to everyone they've talked to within the company. Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff are back and they're blowing everything up and starting fresh. All champions have been stripped of their titles and all storylines and feuds are dead in the water. Spring Stampede will see all new champions crowned while The New Blood made their debut felt starting on Nitro. We finally see Kidman and Hulk Hogan in the ring together. We get closure on who's been driving the Hummer. We see a murder happen in the arena. More importantly, Hugh Morrus commits property damage! All this and more in the go-home show to Spring Stampede! This is the Thunder era we've all been waiting for! Follow us on Instagram @GetItAgainPodcast Got 2 (or more) words for us? Email us at GetItAgainPodcast@gmail.com

Lets's just say it like it is. This is a podcast episode where we gush over Ric Flair vs. Eddie Guerrero who put on a wrestling masterclass on WCW Nitro that you're unlikely to see topped in WWE, ECW, TNA, ROH or almost any promotion on the planet. In the Tokyo Dome, it would be a ****** match. But aside from that orgasm-inducing bout, Sting, Lex Luger, Giant / The Big Show, Arn Anderson, Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray), Meng, Barbarian, Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, Nancy Benoit, Miss Elizabeth, Macho Man Randy Savage, Hugh Morrus, and many more make their appearances as we hurtle toward the new 2-hour format.
Season 6 - Episode #55: Misfits In Action (With G.I. Bro) In 2000 (duh) WCW decided to take some stagnant midcarders (Hugh Morrus, Lash LeRoux, Van Hammer and Chavo Guerrero) change their names and make them a comedy stable. When it didn't catch on they added Booker T to the mix where he introduced his G.I. Bro persona! It's an amazing example of what happens when you take a stupid idea and then put zero effort into it. It's a stupid car wreck you just can't look away from. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @Behind_Gorilla and send questions, comments and ideas for future podcasts! It's a wrestling show loaded with talent, but also loaded with short matches. Join Conrad and Tony as they take you back to your childhood of 1996. Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair was the headliner, but it also had the Steiners, Sting, Lex Luger, Hall and Nash, DDP, Harlem Heat, Eddie Guerrero, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, VK Wallstreet, the Giant, Chris Benoit, Ultimo Dragon, Konan, Glacier, Kevin Sullivan, Col. Robert Parker, Sister Sherri, Queen Debra, Jimmy Hart, the Barbarian, Hugh Morrus, Madusa, Bull Nakano, Woman, Miss Elizabeth, Meng, and, it what will go down as a sensational matchup, Rey Mysterio against Dean Malenko. It wasn't well received by the dirt sheets, but it had some great moments. And it was the NWO before the NWO was ultra cool. ORDER THE BOOK NOW AT www.wcwnitrobook.com and Amazon.com! 175,000+ words, 56 chapters, and more new info than you'll believe! Paperback: https://wcwnitrobook.com/item/nitro-the-incredible-rise-and-inevitable-collapse-of-ted-turners-wcw-paperback E-book: https://wcwnitrobook.com/item/nitro-the-incredible-rise-and-inevitable-collapse-of-ted-turners-wcw-e-book Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/NITRO-Incredible-Inevitable-Collapse-Turners/dp/0692139176/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Synopsis In April 1999, Entertainment Weekly asked its readers what many Americans were surely wondering to themselves: how did wrestling get so big? As a consequence of the heated ratings competition between World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), the spectacle had taken over Monday nights on prime-time cable television. But in a departure from the family-friendly programming produced by the last industry boom - the 1980s wave, which made household names of Hulk Hogan, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper and Andre the Giant - the new era of wrestling combined stunning athleticism with a raunchy sex appeal, engrossing story lines and novel production techniques that reflected a changing society and its shifting values. Once again, wrestling was a ubiquitous phenomenon - only this time, it seemed as though the fad would never end. With both WCW and WWF expanding into other forms of entertainment - movies, video games, music and the like - the potential for growth appeared to be limitless. But with uncertainty surrounding its corporate future, and increasingly uninspired programming eroding its audience, WCW stood on the verge of collapse. Three years into a five-year plan devised by its charismatic leader - a former Blue Ribbon Foods salesman named Eric Bischoff - the company whose unexpected ascension initiated the entire boom was operating on borrowed time. For by the end of the five-year plan, WCW ceased to exist. But NITRO is a story about much more than WCW and the Monday Night Wars. It is a story of an era, a time in which the media and cultural landscape precipitated - and later supported - pro wrestling's mainstream popularity. It is a story of how a company made in the image of an intuitively brilliant risk-taker betrayed its original promise. It is a story of how a handful of men, each struggling with their own limitations, facilitated a public obsession that changed television forever. And so, with the inside knowledge of a journalist, the perspective of a historian, and the passion of a fan, author Guy Evans provides a fresh look at an unfortunate inevitability - the downfall of World Championship Wrestling. Bolstered by exclusive interviews with over 120 former TBS and WCW employees, NITRO is the definitive picture of the last wrestling boom. Featuring exclusive interviews and comments from: Eric Bischoff, fmr. President of World Championship Wrestling; Harvey Schiller, fmr. President of Turner Sports; Jamie Kellner, fmr. CEO of Turner Broadcasting System; Bill Burke, fmr. President of TBS network; Joe Uva, fmr. President of Turner Entertainment Sales and Marketing; Scot Safon, fmr. SVP of Marketing for TNT network; Kevin Nash, WWE Hall of Famer and 5-time WCW world champion; Diamond Dallas Page, WWE Hall of Famer and 3-time WCW world champion; Vince Russo, fmr. WCW writer; Marcus 'Buff' Bagwell, fmr. WCW superstar and 5-time world tag team champion; Kevin Sullivan, fmr. WCW superstar and head booker; Hugh Morrus, fmr. WCW superstar; Neal Pruitt, fmr. WCW Feature Producer and voice of the nWo; David Crockett, fmr. WCW Vice President of Production; Dick Cheatham, fmr. Group Controller for TBS; Alan Sharp, fmr. WCW Director of Public Relations; Mike Weber, fmr. WCW Director of Marketing; Rob Garner, fmr. WCW Vice President of TV Programming and Sales Jerry Jarrett, legendary wrestling promoter and booker... And many, many, many more!
January 4th, 1999: This may be the most pivotal night in the history of The Monday Night Wars, so we needed to bring in William Renken from The New Blood Rising Podcast to help make sense of it all! We cover both "Raw" and "Nitro" in this mega-episode, so get ready for the definitive breakdown of this monumental night of professional wrestling! "Monday Night Raw": Vince McMahon refuses Mankind's request to be the #1 contender for The Rock's WWF Title at the "Royal Rumble," but he does allow him to compete for a spot in the Rumble match itself. There's just one catch -- Mankind must face Triple-H in a match where the special guest referee is the man who Mick Foley beat up a few weeks ago: Shane McMahon. It would appear the deck is stacked against Mankind...... until he reveals that he may have some tricks up his sleeve before the night is over. Having been fired from his commissioner position last week, Shawn Michaels sticks it to Mr. McMahon by promising to provide him with a "Stone Cold surprise" before the night is over. Meanwhile, D-Generation-X welcomes Shawn back into the group..... but is DX really willing to forgive HBK's past transgressions? Edge and D'Lo Brown have a very solid match until it comes to a screeching halt when the pregnant Terri Runnels suffers a devastating personal tragedy. Goldust goes one-on-one with Mark Henry, who is frequently distracted by Chyna and her friend Sammy. "The Road Dogg" Jesse James defends his Hardcore Title against Al Snow in a match where both men end up brawling outdoors while it's snowing! WWF Intercontinental Champion Ken Shamrock faces Steve Blackman in a non-title match. Kane is ordered to compete in a Handicap Match against two very reluctant participants. The Godfather steps into the ring with Test in what is actually "The Corporate Enforcer's" first ever singles match on "Raw." Plus, Dan "The Beast" Severn sets his sights on a familiar rival and Dennis Knight is shackled in a dungeon somewhere! "WCW Monday Nitro": Kevin Nash is scheduled to defend his WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Goldberg in a rematch from "Starrcade," but that match may be put in doubt when Goldberg is arrested under susupicious circumstances. Fortunately, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan is in the building tonight so he may be able to fill in if Goldberg is unable to compete. Ric Flair will be in charge of WCW for the next 90 days, and he proceeds to shake things up right away with his "State of the Sport Address." WCW Television Champion Scott Steiner defends his title against Konnan in a bout you probably not bother to watch. Chris Jericho goes up against Perry Saturn in a match which has one of the most confusing finishes you're ever likely to see. WCW Cruiserweight Champion Billy Kidman teams up with Rey Mysterio to face LWO members Juventud Guerrera & Psychosis in what is easily the best part of the show. We get the dream match we never knew we wanted: Benoit vs. Hogan! (well okay, Chris Benoit is actually facing HORACE Hogan) Bryan Clark steps into the ring with the massively popular Diamond Dallas Page. Chavo Guerrero and Norman Smiley go head-to-head, with the highlight being Norman's incredibly inappropriate dance called "The Big Wiggle." Wrath issues an open challenge, which ends up being accepted by a former "WrestleMania" main eventer. Booker T quickly squashes Emory Hale because that is the only appropriate outcome for such a match. Glacier squares off with Hugh Morrus in a battle of two depressing gimmicks. Plus, a 12-year-old Charlotte Flair makes her first on-camera appearance, Eddie Guerrero suffers a horrendous real-life injury, and Tony Schiavone delivers a line that will unfortunately come to define his entire career! Bill DeMott may be best known as WCW’s “Hugh Morrus” or as the former head trainer of the WWE Performance Center. Starting his career in 1989 as the result of a bet, DeMott was trained by the legendary Johnny Rodz and won his first title just three years later in the American Wrestling Federation. On this episode of Late to the Nitro party we take a look at WCW Nitro from 02/12/1996. This Nitro immediately follows the spectacle that was SuperBrawl 6. We will see Randy Savage take on Hugh Morrus in what would have been a World Title match for some reason had Savage retained the night before. Not sure how Hugh was given that shot but in the end it did not matter. They start talking about NASCAR and their new car they sponsor because they are over the monster truck thing apparently. Riggs tries desperately to make the newest Dungeon of Doom goon look good in the ring. Mean Gene mistakenly lets Miss Elizabeth talk into a mic. Konnan then defends his US Title (yes he is the US champ now) against Dangerous Devon Storm (who you may recognize). Hogan is in the main event then we get an amusing end at the announcers table. We hope this makes your viewing of the episode much more enjoyable!
