Chris Lillig was an Iowa City cyclist who was killed by a drunk driver in 1996, but continues to be a positive influence on cycling in the Midwest today. River Products Company, a stone company where he worked, has supported the biggest races in Iowa (and the world!) for the past 23 years, first the Old Capital Criterium then the Friday Night Races at Jingle Cross and now at the Stone Crusher 100=mile race at the 2024 core4 - a race which covers all surfaces, from pavement to crushed stone to singletrack. Having never met Chris myself, I was curious who he was and why his name continues to be a major part of some of the biggest events in the area. Enter Greg Duethman and Ken Lefler, two long-time cyclists and good friends of Chris. They recount what made Chris such a special human and strong cyclist. They then help us understand why it's important to Chris' family and friends to keep his memory alive and support bike racing to this day, nearly thirty years after his death. We'd like to invite you to joine us at the core4, where no surface is left untouched in Iowa City on August 17. Another day, another episode of the cyclocross social podcast! Today Noah and Twan take a look ahead at already the next round of the UCI worldcup cyclocross, the jinglecross in Iowa City. After looking at the parcours and the weather, we look at the mens race. A battle between Iserbyt and Hermans is predicted. But there are some serious outsiders like Vanthourenhout, Aerts, Van der Haar and Ronhaar. We also discuss Vincent Baestaens and Gage Hecht. For the womens race it looks to be another duel Vos Brand. Who will come out on top this time, and can perhaps someone else step up and fight them? Could Betsema or Pieterse do taht, as they looked good in the US so far. Or perhaps we should look at Vas to do it, or maybe even Neff if she can bounce back! Listen to everything on the Jingle Cross in Iowa here!
