Ross McGraw has had one of the more interesting career arcs in the outdoor industry — from Nike's NYC Run program to Vice Media and Viacom, to helping build Hammerhead through its acquisition by SRAM, and now leading commercial efforts at CORE, the company changing how elite athletes think about heat. In this conversation, Ross breaks down the science of heat training in plain language — why 80% of the energy athletes generate is thermal, how heat zones work, and why the world's best cyclists and runners are training in heat suits before major races. He also gets into what it felt like to go from being a cog in a media machine to betting on himself in sports tech, why triathlon taught him more about business than any corporate job, and how to know when you're doing the "social run" version of your career. You thought your Wednesday morning commute was rough — try sharing St. Louis County soil with a regenerating, toxin-releasing, hammerhead shark-headed worm straight out of a horror movie. Marc Cox and Kim St. Onge have the full stomach-turning story, plus the one rule you absolutely cannot break when you find one in your yard. Then the good news — St. Louis County has a new police chief, Juan Cox (no relation), and early signs suggest he's the real deal with a track record of actually lowering crime. And just when you thought the stories couldn't get wilder, a St. John man strangled his coworker over a promotion and told police he would have killed her if the manager hadn't walked in. It's the St. Louis Morning Brief on the Marc Cox Morning Show — your one-stop briefing for everything happening in your backyard, and apparently, under it too. The Black Museum | (018) The Hammerhead | 1951–1952 ||| The dead woman's sister gets the hunt down the trail going when suspicious activity surrounds a telegram, and the woman's travel plans. The questioning begins, but where will it all lead? What will turn up?A bloody hammerhead with no handle is found, but now it's time to link it to the crime. One link in the Hain after another fall into place, a chain of events, a likely suspect, and the dots are connected.

A green pool can make a customer feel defeated, but for a skilled pool service pro it can become the moment they finally trust you for weekly service. I'm breaking down the “amazing moments” that turn chaos into clarity, starting with the two green pool cleanup strategies that matter most: floc with aluminum sulfate when you can vacuum to waste, and shock and awe when you need a fast kill and strong filtration. From there, I get practical about the hidden accelerator most techs overlook: the filter. If a cartridge filter is packed with old, crushed media, or a DE filter has torn and stained grids, your cleanup slows down no matter how much chlorine you add. I explain why swapping cartridges or grids during a cleanup can be the difference between “still cloudy” and “you can see the bottom,” and how that single decision can save days on a green pool recovery. Then we move into route-changing equipment and workflow. Pro vacuum systems like Hammerhead, Riptide, Bottom Feeder, and the Shrimp cleaner can cut leaf cleanup time dramatically, especially after wind events, and I even cover a newer cartridge filter assembly that helps capture fine dirt down to roughly 10 to 20 microns. For surface debris, we look at PoolSkim and solar-powered skimmers like Betta, plus when each one makes sense for high-leaf pools. • Shock and awe vs floc for green pool cleanup based on filter type and vacuum to waste access• Using high chlorine to kill algae and organics fast• Using aluminum sulfate floc to drop debris for vacuuming• Replacing worn cartridge elements to accelerate clearing green water• Replacing damaged DE grids to restore filtration during a cleanup• Why pro vacuum systems beat leaf rakes and leaf baggers• Simple math for funding a vacuum system through savings or small rate changes• New fine-dirt cartridge filter assembly for Bottom Feeder and Shrimp• PoolSkim setup notes and when it works best• Betta and other solar skimmers for high-leaf pools• Chlorine enhancers like PoolRx, borates at 50 ppm, phosphate removal pluSend us Fan MailSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! Captain Casey Prisco of Dirty Goose Sportfishing and Captain Elaine Supp of Pura Vida Charters join the Great Lakes Fishing Podcast for Episode #280 to share the story behind their purchase of Hammerhead Cowbells—one of the most trusted lake trout trolling attractors on the Great Lakes. Casey and Elaine explain how they acquired the company, how these cowbells are still hand-built in the USA, and what makes their hammered stainless-steel design so effective at triggering big lake trout. They walk through the manufacturing process, rigging setups, leader lengths, spinning-glow combinations, and the downspeed ranges that consistently produce fish—especially when paired with accurate probe data from Fish Hawk Electronics. The conversation also covers how anglers across the Great Lakes—and even out West—are using Hammerhead Cowbells for lake trout, kokanee, and landlocked salmon, along with color selection strategies and when to run different sizes. Plus, Casey and Elaine share a big personal milestone and talk about what it's like building a fishing business together while running busy charter operations on Lake Ontario. If you're targeting lake trout and want to improve your trolling success, this episode is packed with practical cowbell tactics you can put to work immediately. Ready to make 2026 the year your route runs smoother, faster, and with less strain? We're sharing the exact tools that pay you back in minutes saved and backs spared, plus how to pick the right version for your truck, your clients, and your local conditions. We start with the true workhorse: your pole. Carbon fiber has become the smartest upgrade for daily service thanks to its lighter weight, stiffness, and durability. You'll hear how Primate's vertical lever locks and 3-piece reach let you cover most pools from one side while fitting comfortably in short beds. Then we break down the vacuum landscape. Riptide and Hammerhead remain the heavy hitters with reliable carts and power, but cordless heads like the Bottom Feeder and Shrimp now level up with a cartridge filter assembly that captures dirt down to fine microns while still gobbling leaves. If you want less setup and more clean, this change is a big win.Next, we get practical about skimming and testing. The Piranha 2 quick-flip leaf rake edges out the Red Baron for its balanced lip and easy dumps that save precious seconds on every basket-empty day. For water chemistry, the LaMotte ColorQ 2X Pro 9 delivers photometer accuracy without Spin Touch pricing, and crucially adds copper and iron testing to diagnose staining and metals from fill water. We also cover a field favorite: the Multi-Torque socket set that turns stubborn filter lids into a quick drill job and keeps knuckles intact, plus the glove setup that protects hands year-round—light nitrile-coated pairs for daily work and long-cuff Atlas 772s for cold mornings.• Carbon fiber poles with fast vertical locks and smart sizing• Cart vacs vs cordless heads for debris and dirt pickup• Bottom Feeder and Shrimp with cartridge filter assembly• Leaf rakes compared: Piranha 2 quick-flip vs Red Baron• Photometry: ColorQ 2X Pro 9 vs Spin Touch use cases• Multi-Torque sockets for faster, safer filter service• Hand protection: nitrile-coated gloves and cold-weather picks• Discounts and part numbers to make buSend us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors!
