Allen and EJ break away from the usual movie chat to deep dive into old comics. This edition, they cover "Rock Of Ages," the classic 6-part story from Grant Morrison's JLA, which presents a dark vision of a future earth invaded and conquered by Darkseid. Spanning JLA #10-15, "Rock Of Ages" is a highpoint in one of comics' most notable runs. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The world has been turned upside down in the past few months. At one point it felt like we were in an apocalypse. In this episode, Sravan and Tarun talk about comic-book stories in which our favourite heroes were in apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic universes. They touch on stories from both DC and Marvel as well as some more unusual comics that dealt with this topic. Character Corner - A Podcast on Your favorite Comic Book Characters
We finish up the Dark Knight himself with what might be the greatest and longest streak of great stories for a solo character. From the time Grant Morrison takes over Batman to today’s Tom King Run, we have what is arguably the best storytelling at DC. It gets weird, it gets crazy and it brings in things all the way from the 50’s & 60’s. If you want to truly understand Bruce Wayne and Batman, pick up the Grant Morrison Batman omnibus and strap in, you’re going to be in for a ride. But before we get to Morrison, we pick up where we left with Knightfall and Bane breaking the Bat. While not the best, the ending arc (KnightsEnd) sees some really great reflection of Bruce getting to the core of why he matters as Batman. After that, what we start to see is authors coming in and telling some really great Batman stories. Jeph Loeb and The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, then Hush and Judd Winick and Under the Hood. And then Grant Morrison steps in and says “So you know all the weird and crazy things from the 50’s & 60’s that went away when Batman became darker? What if we could have both?” and away we go for a ride. There’s A LOT that is in that run and we only scratch the surface but if you want to really dig into the run (and you should) we have the links below. http://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/6498855 Issues: Batman: Knightfall Knightfall Knightquest KnightsEnd Batman: Year One (Frank Miller) Batman: The Long Halloween Batman: No Man’s Land Batman: Hush Batman: Under the Hood Batman: Red Hood - The Lost Days Batman: War Games JLA: Tower of Babel (Mark Waid) Grant Morrison’s Batman (Reading Order) The Black Case Book (Not by Morrison but a collection of earlier Batman stories that lay the groundwork) JLA Rock of Ages Batman and Son Batman R.I.P. Grant Morrison and Howard Porter’s DC Comics epic Rock of Ages takes center stage this week, as Matt and Brett guide America Won’t Shut Up co-host Jason Flowers through the comic book wilderness. What does someone who hasn’t cracked a comic book open since Zubaz were cool think of electric Superman, one-handed Aquaman, and the overwhelmingly bizarre (yet awesome) ideas packed into every one of Grant Morrison’s JLA issues? Find out in this episode! Jason Flowers is the co-host of the podcast America Won’t Shut Up. You can find this week’s comics on Comixology or Amazon.
